You are correct. Long distance relationships take a lot of work, trust and may not be suitable for everyone. I was in one for about 3 years. We spoke on the phone once a week, saw each other once a month. We’ve been happily married for 26 years so they can work but they can fail easily without clear communication and if one of the parties isn’t as dedicated to the relationship.

Glad everything work out for you. Wonder you could give me advice bout ldr. Like this girl. She likes me too. She mostly answers my questions. There be few she don’t answer. Already spoke to her bout scamming. She said she putting her effort to write me every day. She wouldn’t do that. Why would she waist her time and effort to txt me. You think she be legit? I’m almost 3 months with her.

I met someone online, we spoke hours every day for a year, sent each other gifts, really enjoyed each other. He was in Alaska, I was in Fla. We finally met, I flew there and the reality was awful. Even though he was constantly LOLing all over the place, in person the man never smiled or actually laughed. He was very odd in person, and I was shocked. Needless to say, that was the end for both of us. I don't think he was very happy with me either. Weird huh.

@@mirand0la Thanks for sharing! Wow that sounded so much like with me. Only at the time we didn't have skype or anything like that so it was just email and on the phone; our phone bills were like $700 a month (landline). But we did send pics. There was talk like, "When I see you I will never want to let you go....love"....etc. But in person...no warmth, cold, had to go into work every day, much like your experience. In person, he was like Lurch (Adams Family). I could see if we had only spoken a few weeks/months it would be awkward or something, but this was after speaking for hours every day for little over a year! Maybe it's like personal auras that you can't feel over phone, etc. It just doesn't make any sense.

I was in a LDR for 7 years. It was defiantly a "real relationship", and distance wasn't what ended it. It was one of the best relationships I've ever had actually. Did the distance cause issues? Yes. But we also had a lot of fun and were very close. Zero trust issues. We were in different countries too. Me USA-him Canada! You both have to be on the same page, and we were both able to travel and could afford it. We also were older and did not want kids. A LOT does come into play.

In my experience, LDRs aren't worth it unless you regularly see each other in person & there's major effort on both sides. Ultimately, if it's going to be a real relationship, not just over texts, calls & video calls, someone, or both have to move. If the other person isn't aware of this truth, it's time to say 'Next!" as you're just wasting your own time, energy & emotion.

Most Men don't want to make the effort & time any relationship deserves... Honestly, dating is EXTREMELY frustrating 😤 😒...So, I'll shift my focus in achieving additional professional goals...🤩🙏🏽

LDRs do have all these things that Ryan is talking about, but it also helps you concentrate on each other goals and how you guys minds align, your guys' logic styles and work on things which is so important. I find we make such advances in our emotional closeness because we can't "sex it better" that usually is a temptation when you live close to your partner, we actually talk it out, and he even commonly brings things up before I do, like a responsible partner. It really depends on the partner you choose if they are right for you. My Fiance and I met LDR as friends who'd phone call for hours about philosophy and psychology. We are stronger than ever even a year in, due to border closures (that have lasted a year now) and it recently opening for LDRs we decided to work on merging our lives and working on ourselves and finances, all things that people my age usually don't think about. So I feel very secure in what long distance has given me, and it has tested my ability to stop temptations as well and built my confidence in that.

Me & my boyfriend have faced the struggles of a long distance relationship but have truly figured out a system that works for us. Yes it’s a financial investment as well as an emotional one. But living everyday a day at a time rather than stressing about weeks and months of our life. Remember that there may be a time where you give 80-20 and 20-80, but in the end it’s not a game with a scoreboard, love unconditionally & give what you’re capable of giving, it will be reciprocated! My boyfriend & I are planning to get married this October! ❤️

My Austrian friend met a French guy on some volunteering project. After that they started LDR, it lasted for a year or so. Then he entered the university in Vienna where she lives, relocated and they’ve been together for a few years already. So it can work if both truly want it!

LDRs can def work esp. if both ppl are independent. Yes, at some point a person has to move. When it comes to love, ppl can find a way. I don't discourage any situation when there's an amazing connection between 2 ppl. Also it's a more effective opportunity to get to know each other before intimacy is involved. TY for your vids Ryan!

Most, if not all, of the points made go for short distance relationships (sdr) as well. For example, two local people could date just to wait 5 years to throw beer bottles at each other. The _distance is not the main problem_ , the lack of communication, commitment, and collaboration causes relationships to fail. Long distance relationships (ldr) are harder, in the sense, when you want to touch the person and they aren't around, but when a person really cares they text back as soon as they can.
I had multiple long and short distance relationships, the sdr failed due to the lack of respect like listening and the some of the ldr failed due to the lack of commitment. Healthy relationships aren't for anyone, each one is different and takes time and work. If you learn from your mistakes, then congrats you have a chance. Although, I am in a ldr at the moment, this video helped me realize why my relationship is working better than the others.
Whether other people like the online non face to face setting, that is where the world is going and they could evolve, let it burry them, or work around it. Relationships must feel right for you and them. If the vibe is off it's off, if it's on it's on. The 2 WARNINGs I would give for a ldr is that you don't really know who is behind the screen and if your partner tries to get you to come to their country they may try to trap you there. In sdr, people get fooled all the time with a person's looks. For a relationship to work, you must be smart about it looking at every detail.

I honestly have to admit...my sweetheart is an over the road semi driver. LDR is a must for his line of work and we work out great. I'm independent and have my own job and I also take care of our children. Even before we were housemates we courted for months and he was still otr driving. He even made me a priority even when I moved states due to covid issues. He finally proposed to me on Hallows Eve 2020. We are going to be married Hallows Eve 2021. He watched me from afar for 13yrs and just finally got the courage to ask me.

Second guy we’ve been talking for 5 weeks. I told him I’m coming to see him in Ormond beach b/c where I live is boring and I want to be at the beach. We live two hours apart. He wants to see me all the time. I invited him on a mini vacation with my friends to Clearwater beach this weekend. He said yes. He also said I’ll book whatever you want.

This was very helpful. The texting guy I mentioned with another of your videos lives maybe 2 hours away in the same state. We'd made plans on at least two occasions for him to come down to meet me (he has an office in a town near me) and it hasn't panned out. Something always came up at the last minute. I didn't say anything and don't really pay any attention to him anymore. I'd already stated that if a person can't commit to just meeting in the first place, then there's not going to be any real commitment from them at all. I'm not here to waste my time. Done way too much of that with guys in the past.

This is totally my situation right now, and I definitely needed to hear all of these points Ryan, especially from #6 onward since my LDR has been a lengthy one. For me, it's definitely that early-on sense of determination ("I'm DEFINITELY moving to him!") slowwwwwly deteriorating into hopelessness ("there's no way I can afford a massive move, visa fees, finding a new place?!" and on and on...) that has left me feeling very empty in the commitment I'm currently in. I've not had the courage to face the truth of my changing feelings because it feels like just circumstances, when I truly am in love with the man I'm in the relationship with. But the US (me) is a long way from England. And it does feel longer every day. Thanks for the great vid as always Ryan, and from experience, think carefully before diving into an LDR everyone. =/

Like that awkward and anxious stage between the first date and being “officially” boyfriend and girlfriend? If y’all both like each other and make it apparent as you continue to see eachother, but are still technically “single” do you still go on dates during this? What is an appropriate time frame this stage should last? Do you still act and appear “single” during this stage even if you don’t want to in fear that at this stage, there’s a high risk of it going no where?

I was in a 5 years long LDR. Which wasn't LDR from the beginning but became one because I moved. I really don't recommend it! Unless u're willing to move for the other person or wise versa in the next 6 months! it just doesn't worth the hassle

I'm currently in an LDR for the past 4 months and I actually like the gradual build-up and pace of my relationship with my Dutchie because if he was here in my country, it might move too soon, too fast and would fizzle out quickly. A lot of my relationships kind of start out that way (including the one with my ex-husband) and this distance has made me crave the intimacy but also made me more objective. At least I'm able to have long chats everyday and long calls every now and then with him and still enjoy my life here at home. Sure, covid pushed us into having relationships like these but it can work as long as you're up to it. We may not have that many big plans but I have to refute your number 1 on the list: he does want to be the one to come here and has not asked me once to be the one to go to NL to see him for the first time.

I suggested a place halfway and he never responded to that. I gave up eventually. Why would he want me to stay when his life isn't together? bye

I married my LDR. We split because of other issues, and not the LDR. It can work, especially if you both agree and realise that what you have is special. A meeting of minds and values is rare. It takes work though and the advice given by you Ryan is definitely valid.

Hi I'm in a long distance friendship with a guy and we haven't met yet. We have only had one phone call and that was many months ago. I have tried to have more phonec call conversation and a video call but he always says that he is busy on the day when we are about to call. I'm the one who always starts a texting conversation and he does text me back right away. I'm trying my best to be his friend but should I just let him go? I feel bad when thinking of doing that. What should I do in a situation like this?

    • @lamerdex
      @lamerdex 3 года назад

People will often make time for what they deem important. Believe me, if a guy wants to do something he will. He will call you everyday if he wanted to and initiate conversations. You shouldn’t be the only one initiating a conversation because he’ll use that against you. He will make it seem like you’re obsessed with him.

Maybe it just me, I prefer long distance relationship. For some reason, I don't need to see or go on date with them all the time, we dont need to chat or calls all time either 🤷🏾‍♀️ (been on ldr for 4 yrs and met 5 times, 2 yrs & met 6 times I prefer it that way both are island miles away from me) I just find it more convenient for myself. It doesn't mean I can go cheat or meet with guys. I'm introvert person and too lazy to go out with ldr I have no excuse if I'm tooo lazy to go out on a date lol
