I missed opportunity to become an NCO. Long story there but I make 6 figures now. Life goes on beyond the USMC. Just remember that you will always be a Marine!!!
It is so hard coming out from any service branch. You come from this highly structured and organized unit with (relatively, kinda) clear goals to being out in the cold if you haven't prepped. It is a hard transition. For what its worth, congrats on getting your shit together after getting out. I hope that you're able to pass it back (or forward. whichever it is) when or while you can.
JJJ. Like you I didn't deploy either. While in the IRR I passed up an opportunity for a team spirit exercise in Korea. But guess what? I got a DOD contract job on ships and saw the world. Nothing lost there.
I have some different points of view and ideas on this topic, but this needs to be talked about. At its heart, when you sign a military contract, you are signing up to be used to fulfill the needs of the military. And as an institution, they don't really care about you, particular as an individual. So figuring out and understanding what you want to get out of it and how to best leverage your position to get there is something that I think anyone going in should spend some time on, and while you're in spend more time on. Your situation is always fluid and always changing.
