  • Hear this tune played with guitar rhythm backup (slow, medium, fast) starting at 11:28. Guitar chords (which also work for any other instrument capable of making a chord) are provided on-screen.
This is an instructional tutorial 5-string bluegrass banjo lesson teaching my own version of the popular Country/Bluegrass tune "Sittin' On Top Of The World."
    According to Wikipedia:
"A country blues song written by Walter Vinson and Lonnie Chatmon. They were core members of the Mississippi Sheiks, who first recorded it in 1930. Vinson claimed to have composed the song one morning after playing at a white dance in Greenwood, Mississippi. It became a popular crossover hit for the band, and was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2008.
" 'Sitting on Top of the World' has become a standard of traditional American music. The song has been widely recorded in a variety of different styles - folk, blues, country, bluegrass, rock - often with considerable variations and/or additions to the original verses. The lyrics of the original song convey a stoic optimism in the face of emotional setbacks, and the song has been described as a 'simple, elegant distillation of the Blues.' In 2018, it was selected for preservation in the National Recording Registry by the Library of Congress as being 'culturally, historically, or artistically significant.' "
On this video I teach the tune lick by lick, measure by measure, using on-screen tablature, then I put it together -- slowly at first, then faster toward the end, adding rhythm guitar audio overlay and on-screen chord prompts. A free downloadable tab sheet (PDF) and play-along tracks (MP3) for this tune, as well as many others is available at my website, www.littlerockbanjo.com.
    Hope you enjoy.

Bill, you've been my teacher. Because here in Brazil the Bluegrass style practically doesn’t exist, I’m Brazilian and I love American culture, for me its methods are very efficient and the way you pass the content we are able to absorb very well. Thank you teacher. You are the best. 🙏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
