Yes but, you can reprogram it to factory specs
Its call adjusting moron.
Frfr sometimes the gunk is the only thing keeping it together lol!
@@GrimReapingU Well in my car the gunk was causing the car to die at red lights, and cleaned the throttle body with alcohol 91% and problem solved, the good thing is my cars ECU adapts itself after a couple of times driving around town. So that mean I didn't have to reprogram the Throttle body
Pcm is probably going to realize a fault and relearn the TAC/ETC idle position anyway
I hope you used a fresh brush head. Last thing I need is for my throttle body to come down with a case of gingivitis.

A clean throttle body will help with the performance. Great one! I'm getting an electric toothbrush now.😂

Manufacturers don't recommend that you spray throttle body cleaner near the pivot points. It washes out the lubricant and you may end up with a sticking throttle body. They recommend you use a rag saturated with throttle body cleaner to wipe out the bore.

Great video! However I was always told not to touch electronic throttle body butterfly valves. As they can become “out of sync” I guess you could say. I prefer to take it off and clean both sides without moving the valve if possible
Came to the comments to see if anyone was goanna say anything 😂😭, supposed to have someone press the gas pedal down car off, then you can mess with it
@@Cashperformance that’s the dumbest thing I’ve heard I’ve replaced and worked on countless throttle bodies that’s not true all electronic throttle bodies have a relearn procedure you do with a legit scanner
you can do a idle relearn after if necessary
And you can strip teeth off of gears too..
Right! Or turn the key to the on position and have someone hold the throttle pedal down
I work as a technician. I will say we dont usually touch the throttle body during fuel service. But ours is aimed at the direct injection (and port injection) engines to clean out the carbon buildup on those injection points.
The trottle gets caked up with carbon as well tho....
Nice......unless you use the right TB Cleaner, you just stripped away the Teflon coating and increased the Base Idle to 2500 rpm.
No guys, DON'T touch the moving part.
I was gonna say the same thing lmao

@@CartoonWeasel it fucks things up you have to get someone to push the gas to open it don't be stupid
Why dont you touch the moving part?
Yea some of those butterflys get recharged and activate on its own without power to the car. Rarely happens but happens
You should remove the throttle body from the air intake manifold before doing the cleaning process, otherwise you have the chance of throw dust inside the cilinders and maybe lock the engine.
I was waiting to see if anyone else would point that out. He should also not push on the flap with his finger, he should use the lever that the throttle body is connected to to open it unless it's electric
Dust inside the cylinders and lock the engine 😂😂 dust
Good job dude. I have a series of rifle bore brushes (nylon) and a cordless drill. works for me
Nice nice thx
Copper works 10x better just sayin.
@@Suspect002 I have brass and nylon brushes....nevr heard of copper brushes. Can you elaborate? thanks
@@Suspect002 copper will still scratch, and copper hardens when you flex it, so the brush gets harder as you use it and then the bristles all snap from becoming brittle. These scratches make it really easy for carbon to build up again, if cleaning a body on the car, your brushes bristles may fall down the intake, they're so tiny you won't see it happen. Only ever use a throttle body cleaner soaked cloth and if it's really dirty, remove the throttle body brush all over with solvent and totally wash it out, remember to lubricate the pivot points before you reinstall. So throttle won't become sticky.
@@georgecroney6168 You clearly have no idea how materials work. It is physically impossible for work hardened copper to scratch hardened steel barrels due to their respevtice hardness. The compression that a brush is put under when going theough a barrel is nowhere near enough to even work harden it. You are blatantly lying to people.
A throttle service is one of the main things that a lot of DIY mechanics and even pros forget about.
It is not recommended to force open the throttle valve, especially if it is an electric throttle body. You can permanently break it :)
💯
This is what I was thinking. At least that’s what I’ve been told by an ASE mechanic before.
So how do we clean it than?? That’s my question since my car has one.
@@unitedwestanddividedwefall3521 as much as you can without forcing the valve, the fact is that most of the cars have an electric throttle body, forcing an electric valve can cause permanent damage or you can completely brake it. Best case scenario the valve is not permanently damaged and the car ecu can readjust it when you start the car next time
@@unitedwestanddividedwefall3521you can have someone put the key to the on position and press the gas pedal. If electronic it will open the butterfly allowing you to spray and clean in between those pauses

Question: How many customers have come back for a sticky throttle?
Typically throttle blades are coated in a special coating (i forget the name of it), and it’s easily cleaned off with any abrasives or harsh cleaners. Lessons learned when cleaning your own TB housings 😅
Have you legit had any issues after cleaning tb’s lol ? I literally cleaned my shitty 04 clio’s throttle body like this, disconnected and connected the battery after a while, re-learned itself and had 0 issue’s, like ever ahahaha
I like your accent sir. Also your vid🙂. Finally RUclips made a great recommendation.
Thank you for taking the time to say hi
Take the throttle body out, it's usually 4 bolts, cleaning is easier that way, about the gasket, they are usually reusable because the heat is away from them. Keep up the good work
you don't want to remove all throttle body's just regularly, some lexus and honda throw codes and you have to replace the battery and throttle position sensors
Beautiful work and diligence, makes me dream of having my little garage and projects once I'm making a stable enough living and have my own place to cover in motor oil. Absolutely inspiring, thank you for sharing your knowledge!
You can do it!
That particular amsoil product is made to go into the intake and clean further in kind of like seafoam but better. Run your engine spray amsoil engine foam it'll clean before your eyes no tooth brush needed.
I usually unplug the injectors hold the butterfly open have someone start it and empty a can of brake cleaner in it

On certain cars, like bmw, opening the throttle body by hand can cause it to become mis calibrated amd throw codes
Yup, but if you pull of the positive before you start, once done hook the battery back and give it a few minutes to reset . If a code pops up, spend 100.00 or a Scanner and your still ahead ..
NOTE: DO NOT DO THIS IF YOUR CAR HAS AN ELECTRIC THROTTLE BODY. OR PRESS THE ACCELERATOR TO THE FLOOR TO HAVE THE THROTTLE OPENNED UP.
Why
@@donamanbemis1181 because the electrical throttle open up using a motor and gears which also send positioning data to the ECU therefore if you force the throttle you will damage the gears and it won't work. same thing whit my Colorado he went into limp mode..
it’s also not recommended to manually open a electronic throttle body with your fingers as done in the video

Just be careful that brush tip doesn’t fall into the intake.
Love that content. Only issue is if it’s a newer infinity or cadi suddenly there’s a code for throttle pedal/ body correlation response performance. Now older vehicles with cable pull no way that work will do anything but make it beautiful.

Never move an electronic throttle body flap manually to clean around it, that will mess up the way the car idles and accelerates, it is ok with a mechanical cable throttle but not electronic ones…
Big deal... still do it anyway 😆

This man is a solid mechanic, but why does my car smell like someone had a party in there after servicing? 😂
Is that an electric throttle body? If so it looks like he killed it if so
How??? Did he wrongly clean it? Please explain
@J Thanks Brother For Good Easy Explanation Information. Indeed Very Helpful Information. When We Switch On Ignition Without Starting Car And Press Pedal This Butterfly Will Move? But We Should Never Move It With Hand As This Guy Did.
@J Thanks Brother
If it is an electronic throttle body unplugging the harness makes it safe to move. Once done plug it back up with the butterfly in the closed position. All will be fine. At least with Ford throttle bodies. Assuming the same can be said with other manufacturers.
Guys do not tuch your throttle body that may let your rpm to go up or down so you have to program your ecu again

In our shop, we check if it's a drive by cable or electric throttle body. If its electric we stress that Nobody forceful opens a throttle by hand.🙅♂️‼
An electric throttle body being "forced open" causes no damage. It's never been Proven or shown to cause damage at all. Been doing it for years with 0 issues at our dealership. ^ this is a myth but, you do you.
@@N54.S6 it will definitely cause issues on most fly by wire throttle bodies, since they're not spring returned like a cable driven TB.
@@StarHunter28nearly all electronic throttle bodies will return back to it's original position "closed". And I think you mean "drive by cable and drive by wire". Drive by wire is electric, drive by cable being tied to throttle. You can without issue, push down the plate completely fine with no issues. Worst thing that could happen is you might have to just teach in the throttle once more which takes 2 mins and most cars can do it with a sequence of some sort such as "Holding the gas pedal for 10 seconds with ignition on". My BMW is by wire, plated is tensioned down and stuck closed. Actuators will overcome this, thus, opening throttle. ^
In our car world, mistakes can get expensive and very fast. If someone says it may cause damage. I'll do my best to avoid issues 🤷♂️
@@junieserrano7098 Do as you please 👍
I don't have an electric toothbrush because I'm no professional, but I used my regular toothbrush to clean my throttle body.
That works too
Only a real mechanic will then proceed to brush his teeth with that same toothbrush.🙂
Rinse it off with lacquer thinner we good!
Yea Mon keep it Minty Fresh 😂😂😂
The plate itself doesn't matter much if that has build up, its actually the edges that will make it run poorly, because at idle it's barely open and that is when that build up will affect the performance.
True, I mean even without the knowledge, how do they rhink
That little bit of carbon on the throttle blade is going to have an effect on performance. Needs to be carbon buildup that inhibits the blade from moving properly or is so much that it drastically changes airflow, which the latter is never really going to happen. Problems come from sticking.
Be careful doing this on your own, cos manually changing the position of the butterfly flap can put the throttle body out of wack, requiring a recalibration
I almost threw out a old ebrush, thanks for this

@@bishop5166 me with a 300k mile ranger that just pukes oil but keeps going. 😂 there’s definitely gonna some oil residue in the intake.
This is why i dont run my pcv hose back into the intake pipe. The more worn the piston rings are, the worse this problem gets.
Interesting. Tell me more
@JM i just run tappet cover filters and have the vacuume ports capped off. My old hilux that i owned years ago ran a pipe from the pcv into a 2.25 litre coke bottle that had vent holes in it, the motor was pretty much lunched and would fill the bottle with oil within 3 weeks. So i saved 2 odd litres of oil going through the intake turbo every couple of weeks. Just poured the oil back into the engine when the bottle started getting full.
