That ideal should never be shamed. It's usually from younger people who don't like being reminded of what's coming no matter what. But we will all want people to support us to keep going for as long as possible, so we all need to pay it forward and do our part and give praise to any older folk who are still fighting the good fight.
Stan was 59 here and Ollie 57. For comparison purposes, Tom Cruise is now 61 and Brad Pitt is 60. It's a fact that people who were born before about 1935 aged a lot faster. What slowed the process down is unclear, but you can see it with your own eyes.
@@teastrainer3604 Interesting observation. I thought Stan was sick making this - he seems extra "thin" in this film. It's a little disconcerting watching a classic Rod Serling "TWILIGHT ZONE" episode when Rod does his narration and states the character's age as 26 years old and the actor playing the role looks like he's in his mid 40s.
I really wonder if they both ever thought they'd be watched and remembered in the next century....they'd be in tears of joy knowing they are loved today as they were in the 1920s 30s and 40s. They ARE the GREATEST duo of comedy.
Genesis of comedy on film in my opinion. The greatest too! As a double act making films, no one after got anywhere near their standard to this day in 2023! This is their last film ever but it's enough to see the two champs together again! Just wonderful! THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME!!!!!!!
Unfortunately Stan was quite too thin, apparently ill or depressed and Oliver is gonna suffer a stroke, sadly they´ve gone, but happily they live in our hearts forever!

Sad to see Stan look so ill. He's the same age as me here, 60, but he looks a lot older. I did however see some photos of Stan10 years later and he looked really well and younger. The movie is better than I thought it would be but it is so sad to see Stan so gaunt and tired, and Ollie huge. Thanks for posting.
During the production, the two were battling serious health issues. Laurel's pre-existing diabetes was aggravated and he developed colitis, dysentery and a prostate ulcer while on the French locations for the film. He eventually required hospitalization, and his widow would later fault the quality of the French medical care, claiming that at one point, she had to substitute for an absent nurse by changing her husband's bandages. Laurel's weight dropped to 114 pounds, and for most of the production he was able to work for only 20 to 30 minutes at a time. Due to this and many other production problems, the movie took a year to complete, instead of the scheduled 1 month. They were also very unhappy making movies in the post Hal Roach years. They resented their treatment by subsequent studios, especially MGM, who treated them as jobbing actors, allowed them no creative input and even dictated what they had to wear; formerly always the responsibility of Stan Laurel.
This was the final movie Laurel and Hardy made together and also the final movie for both of them. Hardy died in 1957, after which Laurel refused to appear in a movie again until his death in 1965.
When we see the movies after the time with Hal Roach as legitimate, Bull Fighters was the last movie. This movie here is one that shows us Laurel and Hardy, how we shouldn't remember.
BTW, I happened to play WHO WANTS TO BE A MILLIONAIRE on the computer. After Regis Philbin asked "Final answer?" I hit the "n" button on a keyboard, which is no. Then it's who said this in a row: Alright, well, I'll give u ten more seconds to think about. Alright, that's fine. Take ten more seconds to think it over. Okay, I'll give u ten more seconds to modded over. Okay, I'll give u ten seconds to reconsider. U didn't seem a little hesitant, I'll give u ten more seconds to think about. I said, "Whatever." I'm going to say it again, this movie March of the wooden soldiers was released black & white in '34. The idea is I always like to watch this video of a wonderful movie with the two boys Dee Plays by Oliver Hardy & Dum plays by Stan Laurel in called, "March of the wooden soldiers 1954." I'd rather say that a movie played again in '54, remastered color on VHS with Samuel Goldwyn in '91, & a DVD remastered colorized one in 2006. Do they have the same birth year???? My Father's birth year is 1954, & Uncle 1955. My Mama's birth year, & Aunt is 1957. Well, the other Aunt is 1961. Best wishes, this is Michael Meneses.

My Lord!!!! This is beautiful!!!! I see that my iPhone is the closest thing to a Time Machine now, after having watched this film. Long may Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy live.
Both Laurel and Hardy were seriously ill during the making of this movie. It is perfectly obvious that Laurel was in much more serious condition, based on his physical appearance in this movie. However, ultimately he managed to fully recover and lived for 15 more years. On the other hand, Hardy who was in not such a bad condition at the time his health quickly deteriorated after the making of this movie and he died in 1957.
Stan is only 60 here, but looks quite frail and much older 'In 1950, Laurel and Hardy were invited to France to make a feature film. The film was a disaster, a Franco-Italian co-production titled Atoll K. (The film was entitled Utopia in the US and Robinson Crusoeland in the UK.) Both stars were noticeably ill during the filming. Upon returning to the United States, they spent most of their time recovering. In 1952, Laurel and Hardy toured Europe successfully , and they returned in 1953 for another tour of the continent. During this tour, Laurel fell ill and was unable to perform for several weeks.' from Wikipedia, so it makes sense.

It is well known fact that both Laurel and Hardy hated this movie and neither of them ever watched the finished movie. This came from Stan Laurel's daughter Lois, who said that her father refused to see the finished movie, even though he lived for another 15 years. This, along with Hardy's death in 1957, contributed to Laurel's decision to never make another movie, which made this one his and Hardy's final movie appearance both together and separately. Lois Laurel also said that her father hoped that this movie would be a total flop and that nobody would care about it. While this movie indeed was a total flop when it was released, it has not been forgotten. There is one very simple explanation for this. This is the only movie Laurel and Hardy ever made that eventually fell into public domain. Therefore, it is the easiest to obtain out of all the movies they ever made, as they all are still copyright by studios that made them.
So I agree with Laurel and Hardy, also when the people who feels offended by the elephant in the room I mention, speaks about "bad vibes", whatever this is.
Amo esta dupla! Sei que eu deveria dizer " amava" , mas embora eles já estejam mortos, tudo o que fizeram e como contribuíram para o cinema, está vivo tb.
This has been colourised very well, but this no Laurel and Hardy film, terrible, not a fitting last film for the greatest comedy duo of all time. Poor Stan had been Ill , looks terrible, but love Stan and Babe, thank you for all the laughs, you was part of my growing up, I will continue to watch you till the day I die, the best, thank you.
Agree I see why it didnt go down well at the time. They changed to fox different writers, they were allowed no improvisations like they usually do. The story was far more serious and complicated than their other movies. Some jokes were funny but some were over the top even more so than the past and didnt hit the spot. Its not Stan and Ollies fault. Ollie was also ill making this but yiu dont see it on his face like Sran. He is just very much larger. They wrote out Ollies shy whimsical self with his wave and tie fudgeting and sorry look. I read in one scene it looks like Stan aged 10 years but he looked it throughout to me. It was rather sad to see. Only Stan and Ollie didnt seem to be dubbed. Im sure the other actors were speaking another language. It was so different to their usual films. Roach Hall sould not have been so greedy. 2 yrs after this Ollie was half the size if not less. It was also sad to see him this obese. I laughed but nowhere near as much as usual. Same with toy soldiers.
I think people on here need to get a grip. I commented on the film being good, I hadn't seen it before. I never even thought about them being 'ill' ! They were obviously still happy to act and bring a smile to others' faces. Perhaps take a think and do that for others too, instead of making them feel so low. I have my moments, so don't bring me down with your crap comments ! Especially you, Rob.. who I don't even know !!!
@@robfriedrich2822 Take your bad vibe elsewhere. I didn't upload the film. You are someone who has made me feel bad for enjoying something. I've always liked L&H film and didn't even see it this way.. I try to see the good in things, as much as I can. Congratulations for allowing me to feel and look stupid. Hope you're happy with yourself for making others feel so small.
These two men are historic in comedy film and to this day are legendary it is a shame they was treated like has been, when they came over to England they was put in a b&b as if life was done for them they went home and it more or less went down hill for them with depression and I'll health , and yet we still watch them to this day if only they knew.
If only Curly and Larry would have stood up to Moe just as Laurel had always stood up to Hardy. I've always found it hilarious when Hardy would often try to bully Laurel. But Laurel wasn't having any part of it. The way he would give him a double dose of his own medicine was slap stick comedy at its finest. May the greatest duo in comedy ever forever be resting in peace.
Great point! Once in a while Curly (or Shemp) & Larry would gang up on Moe. Usually it was Moe & Larry against Curly or Shemp, usually when a toothache was involved or Curly had to climb to the top of the three high bunk beds. Oddly they never used that 3 high bunk bed routine with any other third stooges after Curly.
I love these two fellas. Absolutely the best. Towed in a Hole has me laughing till I see stars. Them Thar Hills and Tit for Tat are also fantastic. They will always be the best.
This film actually has a very interesting plot. And gags by the late, great Monty Collins! I laughed many times throughout. Stan looks ill but carries on like the trouper he was.
I grew up watching L&H with my dad...a lot of laughs then but to watch them now, well, it's difficult. The knocks and harder knocks taken, especially by Stan, surely contributed to his ill-health later. Difficult to watch now, as an older adult.
I have watched all of Laurel and Hardys Films up and down, dozens if not a hundred of times. This is the only exception. I even have snippets from the "original voice overs" where the two of them mimic a foreign language by speaking in the words of french or german by simply saying the words as they were taught and learned to, this was to save money on dubbing, the original actors trained with a linguistics expert to "speak" the foreign language. But this is the only one I will never watch. I have seen stills, and Stanleys terrible health is so upsetting in this. The two of them were basically constantly sick during the filming of the movie, Stanley had lost a lot of weight and Babe could hardly film and stand at most days, the climate and weather wore them down. I am sure Babes strokes were aggravated by the stress he was under during normal filming but this movie took some years off of their life clocks for sure, as sad as it sounds. I cannot watch this movie, partially because the script was terrible and Stan actually reworked about 90% of the script himself, because it was so poorly written, but still, it could not save the movie, it has a bad reputation, always had even on release day. But seeing the two of them sick, and knowing that the producers literally whipped them into still performing, albeit a blind man seeing that the two of them are really sickly, is just terrible. I hope that this movie brings great joy to some people, since it is the last movie with those two amazing artists and performers, but I just cannot bear to watch it.
Of course it's sad to see Stan particularly so unwell, but he recovered. Ollie did start having some heart issues at this time but the two were still robust enough to embark on 2 European tours in the years following this. The film wasn't the happiest experience for them - but Stans work on the script paid off - it's far better than their Fox films, and it has some substance as a satire too. Plus the film has a number of enjoyable scenes with the boys. Would it have been easier to watch if they were in better health? certainly. Would it have been funnier if they'd had a better director than Leo Johannon, damn straight it would've been. Personally I wish they had Preston Sturges - that could have worked wonderfully. But all in all I'm glad they made one more film together after the Twentieth Century Fox years, and especially a film which treats them as the beloved clowns they always were, young or old.
After watching this movie I must say that Stan doesn't look so good (with health,I suppose, and he is very skinny, weak, pale, and older😢😢😢😢 But I do love them in my heart forever ❤❤ They will be forever in the history of comedy, never forgotten ❤❤😊
Laurel & Hardy’s final picture, their “Swan Song.” Thank you for uploading it. I got to see some sequences that were edited out of my old VHS tape version. (One in particular was the musical number scene at the Café.) It’s been a much smoother watch than in the past, and I think if it had originally been made in color it might have done better at the box office. Imagine, the first (and only) Laurel & Hardy film in color. But their budget probably couldn’t afford it, and that was that.
It would have been their third film in colour. "The Rogue Song" (1930) and "The Tree In A Test Tube" (1943) were made in colour. Unfortunately, The Rogue Song is a missing film, although there are several scenes that exist.
The biggest problem with this movie was that Laurel and Hardy were the only two people speaking English in the entire cast and crew. All others were French who had their lines dubbed in English in post-production. Hardy said in his rare interviews about this movie that this made the already troubled production even more of a Hell. This is in contrast to about 20 years earlier when the pair made foreign-language versions of their shorts and read their lines phonetically off cue cards - when sound was in its infancy and dubbing was not yet done.
I had no problems with watching this film by my favorite Laurel and Hardy. Why be so picky or go learn another language. I’m American and speak several languages and lived in China 20 years. I speak Chinese ( Mandarin and Cantonese) and several Spanish, French, Italian. I’m enjoying the film. I admit Laurel looks sick but he still has the comedic genius 😅Take and enjoy the film for what it is and quite dated.
@@GeneRogers-xl9um Totally agree. If it was dubbed, it was very well done (compared to today). So, what problem? Also, why should everybody speak English, or at least, not only some other languages. I could watch this in French, Italian, Spanish and then some.
They were, they are and they´ll always be the masters of comedy, humour and laughter, simply geniuses and great versatile actors!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for posting, didnt like it at all but still worth seeing for Stan and Ollie, no wonder they were unhappy with the script. Cant believe how silly the last five minutes were.
That's a bit tough Jonathan! They weren't at their best, granted, but it's still them. The greatest of all time. Genesis of modern day comedy. Anything with them in it would be worth watching because you are watching 2 legends
Never found these guys funny until now, 100 years later. The basis for future comedy duos; Abbott & Costello, Lano & Woodley. Not so much the gags but how it is performed. Slapstick still gets laughs.
It seems, in those days, one in a comedy duo never became more famous than the other. Not that Kenan, Keanu, Jack Black, Jordan Peele, etc didn’t deserve their fame, but their comedy partners were no duds, themselves.
He does, more like 75 than 60 and Ollie actually looks reasonably healthy in comparison. Stan was quite il making the movie but recovered and looked much better when he did interviews later. He died in 1965 and Ollie died sadly 6 years after this not very good movie tbh. Their 1930's shorts are classics though
Soo sad to see them like this stan just got over a stroke they where hardly broke and this movie they played with actors who couldn't hardly speak a word of English and when hardy died stan was next to broke these are the two of a kind this world will never ever see again the two best well known double acts in the world . Who where both funny that's the unique thing about them they where both funny there wasn't any straight man unlike Abbot and costello or malcombe and wise . Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin these two was the very best of our time .

I've always liked L&H film and didn't even see it this way.. I try to see the good in things, as much as I can. Congratulations for allowing me to feel and look stupid. Hope you're happy with yourself for making others feel so small.
@@joannajojospooner6706 Sorry that I mentioned the elephant. No, of course, no elephant in the room....
Sadness was on Stan´s eyes...
the last of the Laurel and Hardy comedies
RIP to these 2 comedians.
These two men are historic in comedy film and to this day are legendary it is a shame they was treated like has been, when they came over to England they was put in a b&b as if life was done for them they went home and it more or less went down hill for them with depression and I'll health , and yet we still watch them to this day if only they knew.
Laurel and Hardy last duo film together 🎞️ 🎥
I started watching, but sadly I couldn't continue. I would rather remember them the way they were.
I myself find it funny also. Glad you noticed. 😊
Stan looked very thin.... My God.... But good Film.. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
The opening scene is basically an accurate representation of how much they were paid compared to what their films earned during the Hal Roach era
I love these two fellas. Absolutely the best. Towed in a Hole has me laughing till I see stars. Them Thar Hills and Tit for Tat are also fantastic. They will always be the best.
"La la la la la la la la la la". "pom pom"
Thank you from India! 🇮🇳
Stan looks not great here! But still love them!
They are, indeed, Magnificents ❤🥰🤗👋
The cats kill me 😂
The one at the end 😂
This is the 1st time i've seen them alot older,
Greatest comedy duo ever
I agree even though Abbott & Costello make me laugh harder overall I tie both teams as my favorite "two man" comedy team.
This is just GREAT !!!!
The Masters !!!!!! Thank You for uploading 🤣🤣

I love these two talented star whole heartedly
For the very first time I'm just about sitting it out -> a movie with Laurel & Hardy !! I just can't believe it...😒 Bather..‼️
After watching this movie I must say that Stan doesn't look so good (with health,I suppose, and he is very skinny, weak, pale, and older😢😢😢😢
But I do love them in my heart forever ❤❤
They will be forever in the history of comedy, never forgotten ❤❤😊
Great stuff brilliant I have seen this video very long time ago thank you so much

What a Legacy to leave behind. 👍😂👍. Plus, Oscar the Lobster 😂
Oh there you go with your "Lobster" tales.😂
Thanks for sharing with us.
They will be sadly missed by us all
I love these guys
Short comment… but true!
So do I, they're brilliant 💕
I beleive this may have been their most expensive film by some distance - partly since it was in production for about 11 months.
@@mrmethane10, you’re right, I’d forgotten about “Tree in a Test Tube.”
Hell, watch any Italian western and Steve Reeves movies with him as Hercules. Even his voice was dubbed !
@@GeneRogers-xl9um Agreed.
@@GeneRogers-xl9um Totally agree. If it was dubbed, it was very well done (compared to today). So, what problem? Also, why should everybody speak English, or at least, not only some other languages. I could watch this in French, Italian, Spanish and then some.
@@Macorian Usually the American market wants a film done in English, also when some players needs dubbing.
Stan is looking quite frail here, but as comical as ever!
Yeah this was 1950, the latter years of their comedy career. Stan would've been 60 here
They were, they are and they´ll always be the masters of comedy, humour and laughter, simply geniuses and great versatile actors!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Those cats though. Lol
J'aime beaucoup les films de Laurel et harry merci beaucoup il me font drôlement rire❤😂
Assisti quase todos seus filmes, mas não conhecia este.
RIP OUR UNFORGETTABLES STAN AND OLIVER
Looks like a European production. Almost all actors were dubbed. It bombed after 30 mins.
This movie always makes me hungry for a Bouillabaisse
I've never seen a movie this fun before
😂😂😂❤❤❤
This was their last film............all of there best were done at Hal Roach Studios before 1941
an excellent movie that I had never watched before
Thanks for posting, didnt like it at all but still worth seeing for Stan and Ollie, no wonder they were unhappy with the script. Cant believe how silly the last five minutes were.
Thanks for watching! We also recommend this movie: ruclips.net/video/wrSji53LFqE/видео.html
Sorry to reply to an old comment but why wasn't they happy with the script?
That's a bit tough Jonathan! They weren't at their best, granted, but it's still them. The greatest of all time. Genesis of modern day comedy. Anything with them in it would be worth watching because you are watching 2 legends
Never found these guys funny until now, 100 years later. The basis for future comedy duos; Abbott & Costello, Lano & Woodley. Not so much the gags but how it is performed. Slapstick still gets laughs.
I love the original b/w version's of these movies but the colorized version's seem to add more life to them 🤔 in my opinion
Thanks for watching! Perhaps you'll like this film too: ruclips.net/video/QpvTI3qtCVQ/видео.html
They are good in comic books than visual media.
Thanks 🙏🏻
How great thou art
It seems, in those days, one in a comedy duo never became more famous than the other. Not that Kenan, Keanu, Jack Black, Jordan Peele, etc didn’t deserve their fame, but their comedy partners were no duds, themselves.
Stan Laurel looks very old.I was surprised to see Stan Laurel like this.
He does, more like 75 than 60 and Ollie actually looks reasonably healthy in comparison. Stan was quite il making the movie but recovered and looked much better when he did interviews later. He died in 1965 and Ollie died sadly 6 years
after this not very good movie tbh.
This movie is in the Public Domain!
Well, it's no wonder.
Really enjoyed this--But fast forward 41:00 to 52:00, makes the movie a lot better

I agree with Stan Laurel - "Atoll K was an abortion."
Thanks!
Love Stan & Ollie. xx
Stan is unrecognisable. Both were ill. Their health and popularity was in rapid decline at this point.
It's the cheapest film. Therefore any public domain collection can use this as justification to call it "Laurel and Hardy box"
Yes this was made in 1951 Stan was ill at time but recovered and lived another 14 years Ollie another 6
Interesting film
So modern in some ways !
I saw them in cartoons it way nicer seeing them in motion picture
Große Klasse👍
Hahahha Stan drink 🍷, with no glass 😂😂😂😂😂
