      I've just updated my system from intel to AMD and I accidentally broke the gpu lock on the mobo because I couldn't reach for the lock!
      I really do not understand why the manufacturers don't come up with these solutions from the start. Is just basic UX feedback.

      One think I really love about the PC space is the fact most things aren’t ever patented.
      For example, the more recent Implementation of screens on the AIO, I believe NZXT was the first to do it and now Corsair is doing it as well.
      Another example the metal reinforced GPU Slot for stability, it’s pretty much a standard in high end motherboards now.
      And the last example, and my personal favorite. AMD and Intel could easily get royalties for there CPU Cooler retention brackets (more AMD) but they allow anyone to make it.
      There’s prob so many examples. But everyone kinda shares and innovates. Whether it not be worth the patent price or not it’s still cool. Then Thermaltake and MSI steal the idea. Hahahahahahaha

This board supports up to 60W PD 3.0 as well as (Quick Charge) QC 4.0/3.2/2.0 and PPS (Programable Power Supply) mode via the Front Panel Type-C port next to the Power Inlet

      @@sagerdood Well clearly I'm not talking about the Gigabyte Motherboards then am i lol, i always use Asus MB the Asus Strix Z690 is £500 up from the £275 of the previous model, the Rampage Extreme is £934.98 and the Etreme Glacial is £1699.99 so yes there are mb that cost upwards and over 1k, I'd normally go for for something in-between the Asus Formula MB was around £700 last generation so this generation if the price increase between boards is similar its will be close to 1k. I'd rather pay more and get something of quality then buy something cheaper and be dissapointed. I've done it before and both times they've been broken, one out the box and the other failed rather quickly, you get what you pay for, then there's RAM which is £330 for 32GB then the i9 12900k that's £579.99, I'm looking at around £1600 for three components, i think il wait, my i7 10700k is still very capable and the rest of my rig is all quality components so il wait, I'm going to get a motorbike instead.

    Can you please do an updated beginners guide on overclocking? Not talking about wanting to see a specific card's speeds, but a very detailed general guide targeted toward those that may have a more budget friendly build and are starting out. Last video i can find like that from your channel is from 6 years ago. And im guessing most of the principles haven't changed. But i dont think we need to know how to overclock with SLI in mind anymore.

    • @bw-mx1dy
      @bw-mx1dy 2 года назад +28

      From what I've seen from Jay and the other TechTubers, overclocking seems to bring minimal gains anymore. You're going to spend a ton of time messing around with settings and get 5% or less improvement.

      I have AMD R9 3900X, I'm just using Ryzen Master to overclock my CPU, and really it's not even an overclock, my CPU has an advertised speed of 4.6Ghz and I have to use Ryzen Master just to get an all-care speed of 4.3Ghz I have never actually seen my CPU get 4.6Ghz, if I don't use it them my CPU stays around 3.7Ghz. That's only for AMD though I'm not really sure what kind of auto-overclocking utilities are out for Intel CPUs. As for overclocking your GPU, that is extremely easy to do using MSI Afterburner and Jay has a relevant video about that from a year or two ago that still applies.

      @@zqzj the issue there is... in real world performance for things that do not earn you money 5% is kind of extremely low. Like... really low. Going from 230 frames to 250 frames wouldn't even be noticeable and thats about 10%. Overclocking became a thing because with older CPUs it was more like 80% increases, which is why Intel kept their cores locked as best they can for so long.

    One thing I really want, and this sounds kinda weird, is new Pentiums, Celerons, and Atoms, and other low-power low-cost CPUs with the E-cores only. An 8-thread top-spec Pentium that sips power would be great for a lot of thin-and-lights and embedded x86 devices. Maybe it's a 6-core 8-thread with a 2+4 design, but that's more power hungry and is probably more like a low-end i3. Going down to the atoms, a dual core 2-thread design that pulls like 5W would be great for those situations where it just needs to run a certain bit of code that was designed for x86, and the speed isn't super critical. The atomic pi comes to mind.

      Here’s the deal with PC technology…
      The moment you make the last turn on your last screw on your new build, it’s ANCIENT, OUTDATED and OBSOLETE! 😄
      Okay, j/k! It’s not ancient and it’s not obsolete. But one thing you can be certain about at that point is that, it is outdated… the moment you make the last turn on that last screw. 😅
      I believe it could be said that it’s outdated the moment that you’ve paid for all the parts that you picked out, or the pre-built that you decided upon and then paid for.
      So, you were very close to being correct! But I would say that it does not take until the next day. The moment I’m done doing a build, I see new stuff on RUclips that makes my brand new build outdated.
      Just my two cents even though I’m not Jay! 😄

    The elongated CPU cooler mounting holes are actually a bad idea except for heavily overclocking centered boards like this!
    The reason is that the z-height is different than all the old Intel sockets so using your old brackets will lead to bad contact, and the new brackets that do get the cooler at the right height uses the new spacing. Even with this board there will be a significant number of people who buy it without actually wanting to overclock ("expensive means better for everything, right?").
    And the x16 slot-retention unlock button is PURE GENIUS. Especially if you use tower coolers but even just the M.2 slot just above it can be bad enough.

Might also want to post the full memory timings trained by the board, though as far as I know, that shouldn't be an issue if you're keeping it in the same family for the comparison (i.e, Asus boards will train similar timings).

Any Windows 10 benchmarks that are currently available are not valid either, they are all "leaks". I don't believe any performance claims in leaks or company benchmarks. The only benchmarks I take seriously are when the embargoes are lifted and actual reviewers do their tests. AMD and Nvidia have also been sketchy with their benchmarking. Exactly. At some point I damaged a motherboard because of that. There was barely any space between the gpu and cpu cooler even for a screwdriver. Also the bracket was very tight so I had to use some force with the screwdriver and sometimes it slipped and touched the motherboard (I didn't give it any importance at the time). One of those times the tip of the screwdriver cut a wire from the motherboard and it stopped working.
    I tested every component separately, found out the motherboard is the cause and after inspecting it for a very long time I noticed there were chips in the paint near the bracket and a cut wire. I soldered it and it worked.

The pragmatic approach it would seem. And so far it the 12k series has not shown its capable of being as efficient even in mundane and lightly threaded workloads where zen shows it can achieve a good middle ground.

    I'm wondering if Intel will make some Xeon cpus with only E-cores? Looking at the size comparison of P-cores vs E-cores, they could put alot of E-cores on a single cpu and i bet the multi threaded performance would be pretty darn good.

    • @lukewt456
      @lukewt456 2 года назад

      The problem is that the E cores will not have HT(Hyper-Threading), which would make it worse than a P core when performance matters. The Xeons could use a bunch of E cores for low power tasks, but the P cores will matter more when push comes to shove.

      my guess- AMD stays competitive but becomes the hot and thirsty one. Most normal desktop pcs don't run programs that need more than 8 big cores, programs that can actually scale like that, if you do it for a living, you should be buying a Xeon or Threadripper. Intels little cores can scale further on less power for the sort of things a gamer/general user does. AMD is going to need a lot of big cores to stay competitive in multithreaded scores, and have to clock them high to stay competitive in single threaded. I would guess they can use core and power management tactics (like letting one ccx clock a lot higher than the other) to not get too out of hand, but i don't think all core overclocks are going to be very good on them.
