I wish maya had those nice camera doo dads... it would take a lot of guess work out of setting this up.

This method is good and easy. Thanks for sharing! But from my opinion z-depth gives more flexibility in situation where you need to have opportunity to tune DOF on postproduction.
I don't reccomend doing this in post, it looks fake.

Yes, please enlighten us as to why you think it looks fake. I for one, think it actually looks quite good, and doesnt cost any rendertime at all. But I will say that you cant get any lens or bokeh effects if the dof is done in post.
@@sergiostockfleth823 i totally agree with you mate. Z-depth gives you more options to play with the focus without having to render the image again. Btw i am really curious what the uploader's explanation would be about their comment that this technique would look fake.
@@miskokral Me too :-) For a whole channel that mostly excels in very good a thought throug explanations and guides about all aspects of 3d arch vis, this "fake" statement seems really out of place.

in camera DOF makes the render terribly slow, especially if you have a slower machine. and u cant change the focus later. i use Z depth pass and Frischluft Lenscare with PS.
True, but it doesn't look as good ;)
Z depth pass and Frischluft are great but don't cut it in certain situations like when working with transparent objects (like glass) with OOF objects behind them.
