    Great channel to learn. I am a very experienced gardener. But I want to learn about succulent and I really like your educational style and experiments with succulents. Your weather is kind of similar to the Pacific Northwest so this is a great classroom for me. I got a succulent bug. How many succulents do I need? I just got started. But I am fortunate to have some big and nice ones already. Keep the class open. I am pre-registered for all your future classes. The more classes I attend the less succulents I will kill!!!

      I don't have one at the moment but they look similar to Echeverias setosa var. deminuta. They are quite easy to grow for me. I had them in my master soil mix and are exposed to the element. That's full sun, frost and rain. I consider them a plant and forget succulent. I only water them when the bottom leaves feel soft.

    Hi Liz i have noticed that my bluebird are getting smaller and etiolating and drying. But i think its still alive. Is this because i planted it in small Terracota plants and giving less water like 10cc per week? It is exposed to morning to midday sun.

    • @GrowingSucculentswithLizK

      As a rule in watering succulents, Water less but heavy. That means I soak most of my succulents to get them really fat, then no water until they need watering again or the leaves feels soft. This video might help.

    So pretty po!! I killed 2 blue birds already (not the same) 😩 both just started getting black leaves and it spread and when I uproot it the stem half was black too and I also make sure I don’t over water them and soil is a very gritty mix and the pot is not even deep. How can I avoid that issue po? Or what’s causing it?

    • @GrowingSucculentswithLizK
      @GrowingSucculentswithLizK  3 года назад +4

      One of the reason in my experience is soil containing sand and pebbles or non porous substrates. It also happens with certain strain; so it's a good idea to get only one plant per variety from one seller to be certain as to what sort of hardiness the plant has. For example, I buy my Blue bird from different sources and take note which sellers plant dies and don't buy from that person anymore as they might have a bad strain or growing condition.

    So does that mean succulents are not suitable for window sills where there’s no direct sunlight? Does “direct sunlight” apply to tropical regions such as where I am?

    • @GrowingSucculentswithLizK
      @GrowingSucculentswithLizK  Год назад +1

      Depends on the kind of succulent. There's even tropical succulents and a lot of them prefer grown in full sunlight. Some succulents to name a few like Andromischus, Aloe, Ceropegia, Haworthia, Gasteria, Begonia, Rhipsalis can be grown in window sills with no direct sunlight.
      Some variety of Echeveria, Graptoveria, Pachyphytum, Graptopetalum; to name a few, can grow in window sill with no direct sunlight as long as there's plenty of bright light.

    So I have a succulent with several stems that over winter inside got so stretched out that it almost looks cool . So there are new succulents starting on the end of each stem and then some in the middles where leaves had fallen off. What I'm wondering is 1... should I still behead in hopes of more babies forming on the stems and 2 is there anything I can do to encourage more babies on the stems after I pull leaves to propogate?

    • @GrowingSucculentswithLizK
      @GrowingSucculentswithLizK  Год назад +1

      First, what plant is it and what is the season where you are at the moment. I would only do this on the plants growing season.....
      If there's new growth, I would leave them as they are and not even water it unless the soil is really dry or the pot is very light. I would wait till the new shoots gets bigger before harvesting.
      If there are many stems, I might even try and cut one stem off and see what happens to that stem.

      @@leanna3458 RUclips keeps hiding your comment from my comment feed, so I only saw this a month later. Sedum Adolphii grows naturally leggy. It is the nature of the plant. To keep it compact, best to continually take cuttings of the really leggy heads. Their growing season is from Autumn through spring. Best to take/do cuttings in Autumn. They're summer dormant.
