He was twelve at the time of UX now he's sixteen. How he ended up in Sora's timeline is way beyond me. But someone had a theory, Xehanort kidnapped Ven and brought him into Sora's timeline. Ventus trained under Master Xehanort, but failed him and Xehanort extracted the darkness from him and left Ven's heart gravely broken. Ven met Sora while he was still a new heart and joined hearts with him. Thus Ven survived and trained under Master Eraqus with Terra and Aqua. After the fight with Xehanort, Ven slept and never aged up from sixteen since he's been asleep. Ven is technically still younger than Terra and Aqua.
I think that was the idea, especially the last lyrics when it said " No matter the fate I may face". I believe that references Aqua preparing to face Terra (Terra-Xehanort) and whatever fate had in store for her after that fight.
If I'm correct, it was said in the previous video of Ventus theme, that's exactly the idea that Lizz had when she was writing the lyrics of this lullaby.
This song broke me and actually made me cry like I never have before. All I can picture is Aqua holding and rocking Ventus in her arms singing this lullaby. It's so beautiful!

No words can properly describe how pretty and touching the melody and the lyrics are. As someone who absolutely loves and adores Ven with all her heart, this vocal cover is extremely pleasing to the ears. I can imagine a scene where Aqua (and Terra, in spirit) holds Ven's hand and ruffles his hair softly in the Chamber of Waking, with this song playing in the background. Why hadn't I stumbled upon this gem sooner?
That was actually way better than the other version in my opinion, which I didn't think possible considering I love that 1 so much, so congrats. It shows how you've improved over these years and the small changes were actually subtle but really good so very nicely done.

Sometimes I wonder why people see Ventus and Aqua as a good ship. I only see them as siblings (Obviously Aqua is older and Ventus is the younger one). I can see Aqua trying her best to fight everything just for her “little/younger” brother (While Ventus is being a little brat and doesn’t listen. If you have younger siblings, you know what I mean)
