This song is really hit the Riku's story. Riku sure really care for Sora "Cast my home aside..." He do that for gain power to protect Sora. Gain a power, but his light is faded. "Stolen my light.." "You deserve so much better than this broken soul,... " Yet still Sora accepts Riku tho'. In the KH3, Riku does that again... In the fight where everyone is cast away by the shadows. I love this song.
Note, Riku did *not* cast his home away to gain power to protect Sora. He did it because he was full of evil and wanted so desperately to see the outside world that he decided to think "fuck everyone. I am the best." and ripped his world apart.
I remember when I was 1st introduced to KH I, I didn't like Riku b/c he was such a jerk to Sora and was a bad guy for the time being, but throughout the game's journey, he ended up having the most fleshed out, developed character arc. He became someone who got lost in the wrong path, found redemption, and overall grew into a respected, admirable character. Every experience he hurdled through made him humble and strong. I really like Riku. He's my 3rd favorite character in the series.
I also really like how his redemption wasn't just "ok, I realize I was wrong let me just throw away my past and start over". Instead it was a struggle of him accepting himself and his flaws while still fighting through those flaws. Not fighting to get rid of them, but fighting to adapt them into strengths
It's weird how we all have a Riku in our hearts. The boy was tempted by the shadows, casted away, unable to see Light again, and was swallowed by Darkness. He lost his identity, and instead, was filled with wrath, anger, and negativity. But after many falls, he found his way back to who he's meant to be. And you can't tell me that you don't feel that way. If you say you didn't feel what he felt, you'd be the biggest liar. No one really knows who they are, once they surrendered to Darkness, judgement, and think of themselves as an outcast, different. But it is by fighting off this Darkness that we make it into ourselves. It..gets better. It got better for Riku, then..it must get better for us, right..?
When I first saw Kingdom Hearts, I knew that Riku resonated with me for some reason. As I got older and learned more about myself, I began to see that my path mirrored Riku's in a very terrifying manner. This song proves what I knew once and for all. In a way... I am Riku. This song really sums up Riku. As you play the game you can still see that ge still doubts himself because he let himself be taken over by darkness, he us constantly trying to regain control and fight for the light even though he made mistakes he still tries to make up for it by using his experiences and the power that he gained from them to protect his friends which is at his core his most important responsibility

Riku is probably my favourite character in KH, just from the fact of what this poor guy has to go through and what he's done. He's made mistakes that he feels he can't take back, despite having friends that forgive him for what he did because they understood the situation. He went through a year of being in the shadows just to help one friend have a somewhat normal life, not even knowing if his own would be capable of being normal. He's one of the few characters to use darkness willingly while still being on the side of light.
That moment when you realize the entire song goes through Riku's entire character arc 0:45-1:22 Kingdom hearts 1 Riku (He wants to leave home and see what's beyond the island) 1:28-2:08 Kingdom hearts 358/2 days to Kingdom hearts 2 Riku (This part refers to when Riku turned into Ansem- he beat himself up terribly for what he's become at this point) 2:59-3:34 Kingdom hearts DDD, Kingdom hearts 3 Riku, when he redeems himself. (The music picks up here because it's Riku's 'redemption' and i love that) A lot of thought went into the writing of these lyrics! You're awesome, Lizz!
"Why are you dressed like one of us?!" "So that my best friend can sleep in peace." I don't know why, but that line from Days really hit me hard. It symbolizes how despite everything that happened on KH1, Riku still considers Sora to be his best friend and he knew he shouldn't have let their mutual love for Kairi to tear them apart.
mutual love? i dont know what was wrong with riku in kh 1, but i can tell he never loved kairi, but the rivalry with sora made he thinks that he loved her... in kh2 he treat her like a friend, and after that, he didnt even cry for her death in kh 3.

It's also the line that hits me the most. But I rather interpret it as Riku never wanted to become a foe of his friends, and when he realised all his mistakes, it only affected him more.

I've listened to the whole destiny trio I think now, and I can just feel through the lyrics how both Riku and Kairi really care for Sora. It's just my interpretation, but honestly this song just screams to my Soriku loving heart because I feel like the lyrics like "you deserve so much more than this broken soul" and "to be with you I will do what I must" refer to Riku's dedication and love to Sora, as well as the guilt he feels over what he did to Sora and everyone else in the past when he fell to darkness

I like how how the lyrics call to specific moments in Riku's arc over the series. 0:22-1:06 Riku's growing desire to see the Worlds beyond and subsequent causing of the Destiny Islands apocalypse. 1:26-1:47 Becoming Riku-Ansem, the practical opposite of what he wanted to be in regards to his relationships with Sora and Kairi. 1:49-2:40 All of Riku's acts of penance, from blindfolding himself to desperately taking Ansem SOD's form to keeping himself as far away from Sora and Destiny Islands as possible. 3:00 Riku truly redeeming himself, genuinely establishing his role in the Destiny Trio as their guardian, and finally becoming the Keyblade Master he was always meant to be.

This song truly helps me relate to Riku on a deep level, as I see myself as a guardian at heart for those I love and care for first and foremost. "Cast the past into the darkness that still lies. Riku truly has made mistakes, something else I can relate to as I too was blinded in the past. It left me bigoted without realizing it and took time to be the good man I always wanted to be, but couldn't see in myself at the time. Thankfully I had help from those close to me who never gave up on me, even when I felt they would have been justified to do so. Yet, Riku never gave up on righting his wrongs however he could and most importantly doing everything he could for his friends. Something I can also relate to. Riku has earned his redemption as a Redeemed Guardian, who has grown from his mistakes into wielding both light and darkness to protect those precious to him. I hope to be like him in that regard...Always. To always be worthy of those precious to me, despite my mistakes and failings.

I’ve been listening to this song since it came out and never really had anything to comment that hadn’t already been said. Yes, this song deserves all the praise thrown this way. It’s beautifully written, and your musical talent is as unique as it is impressive. But while I was listening to this (for the second time this morning), I realized what an understanding of Riku you must have while still making the song so interpretable for people who might have a different opinion than you do. I’m sure most of us, Including me, will think of Riku singing this to Sora (probably from afar like the tsundere boi he is) but if someone thought of another character other than Sora they can still feel how deeply Riku wants to atone, and how deeply he cares for the person mentioned whoever you decide that is *cough* Sora *cough* I don’t know I just found that so beautiful. from the character development my favorite character. in kh1, starting with not giving a fuck, doing anything to explore the outside world. regreting his decisions and doing anything to beat sora and save kairi. in (CoM and) kh2, regretting what he did, letting the darkness possess him to save his friend sora, being ashamed of his past and what he did. in (DDD and) kh3, finally accepting who he is and what his past is, becoming a keyblade master and an important part of the guardians of light. (and ofc getting a huge car key as keyblade) i wish they gave kairi just 10% as much love as they did with riku.

I like Riku's outfit & keyblade in KH3!! This is the first time I listen to Riku theme with lyrics. He's a worthy Key Blade master and he doesn't let his past affect him in the present. I like the fact you get to play as him in KH3 even though it's only for a couple of boss fight's. If Square Enix makes a KH4 I know Riku would be in it!
I just recently found this, and immediately love it when I hear many references to Riku's journey, from a person who wants adventure, to a enemy, to lone wolf who feels shamed, to one who learns to control darkness and light, and to a keyblade master. If you want a theme to a really developed character, this is one.

I always loved the Kingdom Hearts games. Since the game introduced Riku, I already knew somehow I resonate him in some ways. As the games kept on continuing I saw things that related to me as well. Riku have Sora as his best friend, his light to say it like this. And Sora forgives Riku for what he's done and helped him to the path of light. I have someone like Sora as well, and I'm still greatful to have a friend like that. The Kingdom Hearts games did open me up for some reason to understand myself, and I will always love the games

This song really sums up Riku. As you play the game you can still see that ge still doubts himself because he let himself be taken over by darkness, he us constantly trying to regain control and fight for the light even though he made mistakes he still tries to make up for it by using his experiences and the power that he gained from them to protect his friends which is at his core his most important responsibility

Riku is probably my favourite character in KH, just from the fact of what this poor guy has to go through and what he's done. He's made mistakes that he feels he can't take back, despite having friends that forgive him for what he did because they understood the situation. He went through a year of being in the shadows just to help one friend have a somewhat normal life, not even knowing if his own would be capable of being normal. He's one of the few characters to use darkness willingly while still being on the side of light.

I don't know why, but that line from Days really hit me hard. It symbolizes how despite everything that happened on KH1, Riku still considers Sora to be his best friend and he knew he shouldn't have let their mutual love for Kairi to tear them apart.
mutual love? i dont know what was wrong with riku in kh 1, but i can tell he never loved kairi, but the rivalry with sora made he thinks that he loved her... in kh2 he treat her like a friend, and after that, he didnt even cry for her death in kh 3.

Idk why but that line hits me the most. Maybe it’s the realization that he became the bad guy. Like looking into a mirror and seeing a monsters face instead of your own, and knowing the monster is you.

I've listened to the whole destiny trio I think now, and I can just feel through the lyrics how both Riku and Kairi really care for Sora. It's just my interpretation, but honestly this song just screams to my Soriku loving heart because I feel like the lyrics like "you deserve so much more than this broken soul" and "to be with you I will do what I must" refer to Riku's dedication and love to Sora, as well as the guilt he feels over what he did to Sora and everyone else in the past when he fell to darkness

Riku truly has made mistakes, something else I can relate to as I too was blinded in the past. It left me bigoted without realizing it and took time to be the good man I always wanted to be, but couldn't see in myself at the time. Thankfully I had help from those close to me who never gave up on me, even when I felt they would have been justified to do so. Yet, Riku never gave up on righting his wrongs however he could and most importantly doing everything he could for his friends. Something I can also relate to. Riku has earned his redemption as a Redeemed Guardian, who has grown from his mistakes into wielding both light and darkness to protect those precious to him.
I hope to be like him in that regard...Always. To always be worthy of those precious to me, despite my mistakes and failings.

I’ve been listening to this song since it came out and never really had anything to comment that hadn’t already been said. Yes, this song deserves all the praise thrown this way. It’s beautifully written, and your musical talent is as unique as it is impressive. But while I was listening to this (for the second time this morning), I realized what an understanding of Riku you must have while still making the song so interpretable for people who might have a different opinion than you do. I’m sure most of us, Including me, will think of Riku singing this to Sora (probably from afar like the tsundere boi he is) but if someone thought of another character other than Sora they can still feel how deeply Riku wants to atone, and how deeply he cares for the person mentioned whoever you decide that is *cough* Sora *cough*

I like Riku's outfit & keyblade in KH3!! This is the first time I listen to Riku theme with lyrics. He's a worthy Key Blade master and he doesn't let his past affect him in the present. I like the fact you get to play as him in KH3 even though it's only for a couple of boss fight's. If Square Enix makes a KH4 I know Riku would be in it!
I just recently found this, and immediately love it when I hear many references to Riku's journey, from a person who wants adventure, to a enemy, to lone wolf who feels shamed, to one who learns to control darkness and light, and to a keyblade master. If you want a theme to a really developed character, this is one.

I always loved the Kingdom Hearts games. Since the game introduced Riku, I already knew somehow I resonate him in some ways. As the games kept on continuing I saw things that related to me as well. Riku have Sora as his best friend, his light to say it like this. And Sora forgives Riku for what he's done and helped him to the path of light. I have someone like Sora as well, and I'm still greatful to have a friend like that.
The Kingdom Hearts games did open me up for some reason to understand myself, and I will always love the games
