    In today’s video I show some unseen footage from the Fairfield Card Show that occurred about 3-4 months back. The biggest reason why this video footage had not been released was because I wasn’t able to actually get a deal done for the majority of cards that I had set aside and was potentially interested in. This dealer had pulled me aside when I was walking and said that they were trying to get rid of a bunch of the lower end inventory they had and that they just didn’t really care about it anymore and wanted to end up getting fresh inventory out. It was the first time a vendor actually had pulled me aside and said that I needed to look through their stuff. It was also the biggest deal that I was never actually able to complete with a dealer. I picked out about 400+ lower end sports cards from their dollar / value bins and then when we started to go through what I had the story completely flipped to trying to be able to get every last dollar that was available for the deal. It’s one of those things that people like me who search low end inventory and pull out the cards that you’re interested worry about the most is not actually being able to get deals done. A lot of the cards that were priced were definitely WAYYY above comps and most of them were also over comps by 4x what the actual last sold was for. Just figured I’d share this experience I had at a Northern California card show with a sports card dealer / vendor.

    So he wants to move his older low end product, but doesn't want to make room for a deal?? You can't have both

    After dealing with sellers like these a few times I try to avoid sellers without prices in their value bins. I’ve had a few vendors just make up random prices on the spot and it really annoys me. I think it’s way better to deal with vendors who price their cards because it shows they actually care. Also I know it’s a long trek for you but are you going to the Newark show?

    • @ruffasportscards
      @ruffasportscards  13 дней назад

      I will not be attending the Newark show, sadly even if I did manage to plan to attend this one I would’ve been disappointed both because of the event being a split junction, being only a single day for sports and the other for tcg, plus my mom is currently going through some health things.. might even have to consider getting a job while doing the card stuff on the side (which is what I wanted to do anyways) but yea I wouldn’t have been able to attend this one so I’m glad I didn’t end up planning for it.. the 3 day Sacramento card show next month in during the weekend of the 18th was the main reason why I had to choose one or the other and I’m glad I decided to do the Sacramento one for that reason since it wouldn’t have been the best for my situation

      Yea most times I avoid sellers that don’t have stuff priced out, but also one vendor I’ve done a deal with that didn’t have cards priced has sold to me outside of just that single deal, sometimes people just don’t have time and need extra cash too :)

    I would have taken a small stack about 10-20 minutes in and ask where he was at. That would have determined whether I would have stayed at that table.

    • @ruffasportscards
      @ruffasportscards  13 дней назад +1

      @@1dayshowchannel I do that for a lot of my deals… but again.. he stopped me, approached me, said that he just wanted them all gone.. there was no reason for me to think he was going to be so drastically high in prices.. but yea in the future even if someone stops me and says all these things I will do the same processes of my other deals.

    • @ruffasportscards
      @ruffasportscards  13 дней назад

      If this was any other situation I would’ve definitely grabbed a small pile and asked what he was thinking for those.. but that also doesn’t fully gauge how good of a deal you’re able to get from a vendor.. I have a video I released earlier from the same card show.. grabbed maybe like 5 cards or so out.. dealer said they wanted $25 for them, which was relatively fair… picked out about 100 cards and ended up only paying like $90 or something of the sorts.. if I would’ve thought that they’d want $25 for every 5 cards then I wouldn’t have looked through and worked those deals

      @@ruffasportscards haha it happens. I went to a card show once and there were tons of value boxes with no prices on them. I plucked some Tyler Herro rookie card out and asked him how much this was and he whips out his phone and was like $25. I look on my phone and there were multiple on ebay for $8. I just said I pass and walked away. Prob saved myself like 30 mins of digging

      @@Wootensportscards yeah totally. i have made the mistake of staying at a table for too long. Now that Im an old man, I learned to figure out what head space the seller is at from the start. And bonus tip: if there is someone else at the table negotiation a deal with that seller too, listen in! You might get some valuable info on how flexible the seller is

      Yea I mean the dealer kind of told me multiple times that he was just wanting everything gone and he wasn’t really attached or interested in the specific cards he had me looking through; even while I was searching through the 1st box he walked up and said whatever I put on the screen at about 6 or so minutes into the video.. along the lines of “some don’t have prices.. some prices are old.. I’ll work with you on whatever” the audio in the video is where I have our conversation was actual audio that I changed the voices for.. it wasn’t like he ever show hesitancy.. he even saw me walking, stopped me and said “oh dude I got some stuff you gotta look through..” he didn’t even have these value bins I was looking through actually set up, he had them behind the table.. I was the only person to actually look through any value bins because he only showed them to me while I was there. it was like the perfect storm to throw me off of my usual checklists of deals.. if someone stops me pulls me aside and says I just want this stuff gone multiple times to me, (until this point) my thought process is okay he just wants this stuff gone.. no point in double checking if we are gonna be able to get a deal done. He said whatever I didn’t buy he had alt or someone (pretty sure it was alt) who was a worker for an auction or consignment company there that would just take the rest of it.. that should’ve been a sign to ask him what he was thinking of for prices then, but again he had pulled me aside stopped me and then said “whatever you don’t take..” so I just figured okay he just wants to give me a really good deal before he offloads the rest to their consignment.. I figured that he’d probably be lucky to get a $1-2 on the Jordan’s and Tom Brady’s so i grabbed all of those, then when I finished looking through everything he finally started to show actual hesitancy. This vendor also deals in like SUPER high end cards.. so to me my thought process was.. okay.. he literally has the value of these cards in like 1/10th of a single card in his showcase.. I think he’s just wanting to help me out and see me do good because of how many times I’ve seen him at shows and how I even have worked out a deal with him during my first ever show. It was just kinda the perfect storm to throw me off my game and then thus why it was 2 hours of time I thought was being used productively until the very end..

      😂😂😂 I don’t think a grown man who is in his 30s+ is going to learn by me wasting 2 hours and not getting anything out of it. He had cards valued at $10,000+ he wouldn’t have lost a single thought if I just walked away. Me working a deal out for what I could was me at least trying my best to get something out of precious time I used.

    I wouldn’t tell someone how much money I have and if they asked I’d be like why does that matter?

    • @ruffasportscards
      @ruffasportscards  3 дня назад

      @@rufrydrmw because we were trying to get a deal done and he wanted to know if we could get a deal done or if I wasn’t going to be able to. I told him we should start probably figuring out numbers or something of the sort, or he said it but I was thinking the same thing because I was done looking through. If it was someone I didn’t already know or think of otherwise I would’ve not said anything about it forsure. It’s someone I know that the other dealers that I know and that like me would know him so I wasn’t worried of anything of that sort. But yes I am cautious.

    I would have rather heard the dialogue between you two for the deal than a voice over.

    • @ruffasportscards
      @ruffasportscards  8 дней назад +1

      1.) I didn’t get that on video footage
      2.) the audio would’ve been 99%+ of just loud card show noises
      3.) the dialogue was literally what I shared via the voiceover.. he said I might have to get more cash i said how much more cash are you even thinking and then I just started taking out cards from there. I even put in a part of audio with voice changer and said the introduction to how I had gotten to the situation being that he pulled me aside and told me I had to go through his boxes. Literally saved you 2 hours by condensing the situation that was dumb into 18 minutes or so.

    • @ruffasportscards
      @ruffasportscards  8 дней назад +1

      I’m pretty sure that the only actual dialogue I recorded between me and the vendor was even shared in the video 😂😂 I think he might’ve also said “imma move you over here right quick” or something of those sorts and that’s how I moved from being on his glass showcase to the table behind his table 🫠. Those would be the only 2 sentences I’m gusssing I even have of this vendor and my dialogue. And trust me it would’ve just been a disservice to upload the actual dialogue regardless of if I had it or not. Would’ve wasted so much time; I grabbed like 1/5th of the cards I originally picked out, and didn’t even record me going through the 3rd and final box let alone even trying to figure out the deal because of how terrible it actually was.
