  • Epic storms hit California and we love finding gold on the beach afterwards. This video was filmed on Friday 2/24/2023 a day before the largest storm to hit our coast in a long time. We detected early morning low tide right before the next storm came ashore. I used my new Olight Flashlight for the first time on the beach and it worked great, easily slid into my pocket after the sun came up.

      @@funwithjim I remember renting a Garret back in about 83 or 84, in my home state of Missouri that used like 8 to 12 d-cell batteries! That sucker was heavy but man it was fun to use. Bought a Garret AT MAX a few years ago and now that I'm retired, I'm looking forward to getting to search with it. Those beach cuts just look like something I would love to search with it, though I'm back in Missouri now.

    What an amazing day for you all Jim. That gold ring is beautiful. Congrats. Was wondering your thought on detecting etiquette, When there are 16 detectorists like you counted down there, What is your MO for detecting with so many detectorists ? Do you crisscross other detectorists or do you chose an area to stay in or what? Your thoughts ?

    • @funwithjim
      @funwithjim  Год назад +3

      Yes, we all hunt differently. Several move up and down the beach, others zig zag aimlessly however etiquette is if some one is gridding and specific area just leave them alone and move around them saying Hi! I hunt for patches then dig that area out. FYI that 16 detectorist day was the Sunday after that huge storm today's video was Friday just before the huge storm and just after a modest rain with gale winds. Thank You 👍

      If you love the 800 keep using it as it is still my favorite machine, The 900 is just a new toy for me right now, but I am liking it a lot and realize I need more time with it before I comment. The 900 really likes deep iron causing me to chase bad targets thinking they are good high tones but the range on low tones is awesome. Thank You 👍

    Jim, I got a question. What do you prefer, singe frequency or muli frequency machines.
    I am assuming you have experience with both.
    Thanks for the content.
    Currently still rocking a White spectrum xlt single 6.54 frequency.

      For the Beach I like Multi Frequency machines. My custom made machine from 1984 would run around 5khz and around 15khz but not simultaneously. I would hunt in 5khz for quarters (arcade money back then) and adjust it to 15khz when I hunted for gold. I found 15khz was perfect for most all of my detecting, however those machines were a constant struggle to tune and balance. Thank You 👍

      I always say a Minelab Equinox, the 600 is a great machine but Now a new machine called X-terra Pro is almost just like the Equinox and should be less than $400
