Nice video series of the Colorado Flats. Been tent overlanding for years now out of our JL Wrangler and never seen a rooftop tent i cared for being 6'2". Awesome! I hope you get as much enjoyment out of it as I have. If you have the cross bars on the rhino rack, every friend I have that has those with a RTT says it whistles. Try switching to the platform instead of the cross bars. My wife has that on her Wrangler and she's never had an issue with noise.
Hey! The "barn smell" is all part of it! We live an hour west of the Flat Tops and our property is considered "free range" for cows from May to July when the cows are moved up to higher ground to feed. If there's a cow patty on our road at home, I'll even drive through it- the dogs love it! And getting it on the Jeep while 4 wheeling? No big deal. As far as not seeing deer or elk, they are up high this time of year, especially since it's been a little warmer than usual. Check with Budges Resort that you came across, they'll fill you in. Thanks again for your videos and giving such an in-depth view of the Flat Tops.
When I went to Colorado in June I was in some parts where cattle were everywhere. My offset on my wheels makes them stick out a bit more and ran over a cow patty which slung it inside the jeep. That was fun cleaning that out😂
Yep definitely adding the flat tops to my list. I should've hung out with you that week but so glad I went to Utah because it was an epic trip.

From an early age my father taught me to read maps and he had a Map Box full of forest service maps. He’d always look for new roads or routes to explore on our wheeling / camping trips. Here I am 49 years later still doing the same thing, only now with my kids on both paper and electronic.

Watching this on my TV now, yeah man I'm trying like heck to get out there and see all of these places, unfortunately this year we didn't make it, had a few issues get in the way and a hurricane so we gotta wait for next year but we are going keep watching and planning for future trips!

Matt, when I was a younger man I drove s CJ5 (I now have a Gladiator), stationed at Ft. Carson explored the Rockies every weekend that could., I love the Rockies and look forward to exploring of them again on my next trip west.

Spent many a day by foot or horseback and 4x4 up in the Little Flat Tops Wilderness area. It is a beautiful area to explore and enjoy. A lot of trails have been closed unfortunately to dead and downed timber. Still enjoying your content and the places you take us 👍
Oil filter housing/cooler are well known on the 3.6 L for leaking oil. Had to replace mine when it got around 90-100k miles
It’s not leaking anywhere.
Hey Matt, it can get very busy up there on weekends; especially holiday weekends. It was a zoo over 4th of July weekend with tons of RVs and SXSs.

I'm one of those that most likely won't be able to get out there for anything more than overnight or day trips. Only having a weeks vacation kind of limits how far you can go.

Look up Crescent and Mackinaw lakes. They're in the flattops wilderness area. There's a great road that goes up in there from off of the same road that coffee pot road comes off of...just farther up the road. I think it would make a good video.

It has been very sad traveling without the pups and unfortunately our next trip around the Rebelle Rally we can't take them there either. But don't worry they will be back.

Thanks for the videos. I watch all of them. Very relaxing. What are your thoughts regarding RTT vs canopy camper (i.e. Alucab) vs off road trailer with wet bath (i.e. OBI Dweller 13) when it comes to overlanding with wife in terms of comfort vs convenience ? Don’t expect an answer, I know you are busy, but you have a world of experience and a wife who travels with you.
Every setup has its pros and cons. It’s just depends on your style or travel and comfort needs. We stopped pulling a trailer because it doesn’t match the trails we like to do. I’d say the canopy camper allows the best balance between capability and comfort. Cara loves her Explore Elevated topper.
Hey Matt, what is the height of your truck including with the roof top tent? Does it fit through a 7 foot garage door? Any plans on visiting canada? Maybe with TSTN in BC? I'd like to see you do some ontario stuff if there is anything around, or northern michigan. Take care!
could be sucking a little oil by worn valve guides / seals. sometimes will get blue smoke on deacceleration
I’ve never seen smoke from any of my video footage. I’ve been looking for it. 🤷🏼♂️
Do you ever worry about the rotopax getting rubbed or punctured with them being mounted on the side?
I've busted my water rotopax on a tree before but not a fuel one.
How much time do you spend styling your hair?
Honestly almost none. It’s a very camp friendly hair style. 😂
Do you find the Jeep platform uncomfortable on the highway?
I don’t personally but I’m very used to it and love the Jeep interior.
Check to see if your crappy plastic oil cooler isn’t leaking. This is a major problem with the crappy Pentastar.
