Just a handy tip if you don't have an adapter that fits your hose perfectly. I see a lot of 3D printed ones that address this problem and I see a lot of videos of people using ugly aluminum tape by the pound. Don't tape it AFTER you connect, tape the male adapter end BEFORE with blue painters tape. The simple answer to most of these misfitting hose to coupler is just build up about 1/4" of blue painters tape on the male end of any duct adapter, now slide the hose over the tape and, poof, perfect fit. In many case, don't worry about the clamps, just put enough blue tape on the adapter to it fits super snug, but if you want to clamp, you have this nice semi solid seal of the blue tape. All this talk about gaping of the hose when you clamp is taken care of.
@@customgrainsdesigns2226 Thank you! 🙏🏼 (Please disregard my email - I wasn’t sure if you would see this.) I appreciate the quick reply! Can’t wait to get mine set up.
@@customgrainsdesigns2226 no, I want to transition from the glowforge filter to the exhaust fan and I am concerned about where the dust and soot will go.
I am now trying to set up inline fan and purchased the adjustment from 6" to 4" but the silver clamp that tightens the 6" does nothing to tighten it onto the inline fan. Is this normal?
Did in-line fan reduce the smell for you? For me it still smell pretty bad when cutting acrylics even with in-line fan. I’m planning to move glowforge to garage.
It cut it down a good bit. I would check to see if you are having any leaks anywhere. I was having a leak somewhere on my fan and I covered it up with the foil tape. I the future I'm probably going to replace all of the brackets and hose since it's starting to get old. I believe no matter what though, you will have some type of smell.
A moderate amount of smoke does come out when it’s cutting. I don’t live right next to a neighbor though so never had those issues. You could always run more ducting that leads away from your neighbor
@@customgrainsdesigns2226 Thanks for your reply! I live in an apartment I guess thats why I am a concerned, although I was looking into the filter as well.
Can I just use the AC Infinity CLOUDLINE S4, Quiet 4” Inline Duct Fan. The CFM is 205 and the Glowforge says it exhausts 150? This would avoid the adapters.
May i ask if it is possible to use the S6 Infinity CLOUDLINE fan on the floor without mounting to the wall, do you think it will move around due to the vibration inside? thanks!
The idea that the reducers are 2/3 the cost of the fan is so absurd! I set mine up but decided to just 3D print my reducers rather than give some greedy ass company money they dont deserve to have!
@@skylermaddox8278 Did you see the links shared in the description? The one linked here is $65 and FYI the one I printed and works perfectly cost me $2.75.
What a night and day difference the inline fan makes. So much quieter in my shop!
Yes!

Did you have to physically remove the original fan
No not yet. I just disabled it in the glowforge app. I will remove the fan soon now that my warranty is up!
This is super helpful. Thanks for sharing! Question: I see the PVC Duct hose is 10’ long. Did you cut it yourself to make 2 shorter lengths?
Yes I did. Cut it with wire cutters then with a razor blade

On your outside exhaust port, is there a buildup of dust and soot on the wall or surrounding area?
No not for me, are you having that issue?
@@customgrainsdesigns2226 no, I want to transition from the glowforge filter to the exhaust fan and I am concerned about where the dust and soot will go.
@@customgrainsdesigns2226 I also would like to mention that I engrave a lot of wood.
Mine just shoots out the window to the outside. Some of the soot may build up in the piping but that is to be expected

any way you can send a picture to laserengravingbusiness@gmail.com
Have you ever tested with a watt meter to see how many watts does the fan draw? I wonder how accurate is it to what the manufacturer claims.
I have never done that yet

Any update a year removed? Great video. Thanks!
Still working great! Next step is to take the built in glowforge our so it doesn’t restrict flow
Great video, thank you so much for your content. Which Glowforge do you have?
I use the basic model but with recent price changes the plus or pro may be more worth it. I have a video on the price changes
thanks for sharing👍
I’m not sure if I missed it, but did you cut the hose to use in each side?
Yep I cut it with wire cutters then with a razor blade.

You could but I’ve heard it’s underpowered according to a lot of people
@@customgrainsdesigns2226 Ok, Thank you. I was wondering just that.

I think it would work just depends on your set up. You also want to put the fan as close to the laser as you can.
@@customgrainsdesigns2226 thanks!
how do you know which speed to run your S6 infinity fan at?
I just run mine at max speed to pull the smoke out as fast as possible

1000 times better. I wonder if they've designed the stock fan too small?
I’m not sure why it’s so loud but I plan on one day after the warranty expires to take the internal fan completely out and have even better air flow
@@customgrainsdesigns2226 I've seen many have done that as well. Keep posting!
