Because my business had to shut down over 200 days during the pandemic, I couldn’t afford the payments on my 2019 car, so I got rid of it and got a used 2015 Scion xB with 42,000 miles. I love it. It’s peppy, will hold almost anything.
I have a 2015 686, and I am in love with my car. Its fun to drive, and wonderful for road trips. I've camped out of the back a few times, and everyone that gets in my car comments on one of two things, the head room, or the seats. Unfortunately in your review, the xb didn't have the 686 seats which is a shame. The front seats are black leather and nylon with camo print on the back of the seats that is a trademark of the 686 company. I want to get a winter coat from them to match my car. ^^ The 686 seats also have a brown leather patch sewed into the seats upper center with the 686 logo on it. The side of the drivers seat also has a small zipper pocket perfect for storing toll fees or cards. The rear seats are solid black. My car has a very decent stereo system in it, with good bass and music clarity without sounding blown at louder volumes. I've seen criticisms for the placement of the seats saying they have a "bus driver" feel to them. They are set so that you are sitting up rather than reclining back like you find in most sport cars. I like this set-up because it allows for easy ingress/egress from the car, especially if you have an injury or very dirty shoes that need to be cleaned before you start driving. You want cup holders? It has plenty of cup holders, from the larger pockets in the doors (seriously, its almost big enough for a 2 liter.) two in the center console, and two that flip out for the back seats. The center console has a hidden compartment in the bottom of the storage compartment with a pair of USB ports so you can charge your phone or plug other things in, along with an AUX for the stereo. My only complaint is the inability to turn down the brightness of the center screen, it can get a bit harsh on the eyes when driving at night. I call my car "tenderfooted" because when you go over a bump or pothole you are going to feel it. There was also a recall on the airbags and certain braking set ups for several Toyota models. If you decide to buy a 686, please make sure that these issues have been addressed. In all, its an awesome little car, I love my Flying Toaster, and look forward to holding onto it for a long time.
Funny thing, even though the Scions were designed for the young adult market, I see mature adults in the xB's more often than not. They're easy to get in and out with great storage space.

I have the JDM version called the Toyota Rumion. It’s the same as then North American XB but with some different features. Mine is a 2008 sport package.The JDM versions come with an actual TV, I’ve watched some Japanese TV shows while driving before. The steering wheels are also slightly different with no buttons on it. Below the media player, the climate controls are actually fitted with a digital screen. Lastly, rumions came with a factory subwoofer in the back. I’ve uploaded a a short video on my chanel showing the TV in action.
Great review! Unfortunately, this xB does NOT have the 686 Camo Seat Covers or the optional Inno roof box and rack. The gray and black seats were standard from 2011-2015. I have a 2015 and it's been a great car since new!
I have a Scion xB and it’s special to me cuz my mom had thr first gen and she had to get ride of it so she could take care of em as a kid and she loved that car so she got the gen 2 and she passed it on to me so I love my xb and I will ride it out as long as I can
The xB2/2.5 gens are considered hatchback. And I agree that Toyota should hold the xB a little longer, and become a full fledged Toyota xB. Could call it a new matrix xB
great cars, though needed the much improved 2.5l motor that the TC got around the same time the camry got it. The 2.4l has known issues with sludge and oil burning/piston ring issues. In our 09 xb we run it with penzoil ultra platinum synthetic which helps keep the sludge from getting started. with the detergents it has.
@@drivenlowkey2437 a 14 with oil burning? I rarely see that. Usually 08-2012. But it can happen. My 15 has no issues, and have yet to hear of a 15 that burns unusual amounts of oil.
My 100K, 2010 XB 5-speed manual was up to using 1 1/2 qts between 3500 mile oil changes. I started putting 5 ounces of SeaFoam in the crankcase about 500 miles before an oil change about 3 changes ago. So far oil consumption has dropped by about half. I'm hoping for continued improvement. I really like this car and would love it if it had a sixth gear for the highway.
I have an 08 and I love the scion series. I go to the u pull it and I have yet to see one. Makes it hard to get parts for mine but it says a lot about how good the car is.

I wanted to add to my other comment I'm into them now. Love the fact that you can sit up versus sitting down compared to a lower car. However when these cars came out at the time these were the weirdest things to see on the road. My family would always complain they looked like boxes on the road and how could anybody drive them 😂
First off, the Kia soul is a piece of crap- it will NEVER EVER EVER EVER come close to the XB- because the XB has the reliable Camry engine. and was invented to compete with the XB- Second, there are NO KIA'S ON THE PLANET that can do 200k to 300k miles without replacing the motor and transmission twice. Third, have you tried to purchase a used XB? A clean, low mileage XB? They go anywhere from $4k to $5k for the first gen- anywhere from $5k to $12k for gen two let alone a hot lava RS 9.0 where the insignia lights up when you press the key- ( that's what I'm in line to get) All in all the most desirable small car on the market- XB was a genius idea from Toyota- they didn't fully know the impact that car had..
The xb I have has a pioneer system and it said navigation. When I press the button it says it's not installed and to contact toyota for this. Anyone have this issue as well ?
Loved the XD, I'm looking for another car and totally open to an XB or XD. But man if you find one in decent condition, 2012-2015, maybe 80K miles, these things are still selling for 13K (XB). It's hard to put that into a used car when it's like okay maybe I'll use that money for a down payment.

I hope there is a trend to electrify popular retro cars. I think only making 686 of these cars might be false. I have this vehicle and when I contacted Toyota they couldn't tell me what number of the 686 vehicles made was mine. And I've already seen 3 in my neighborhood (Chula Vista, CA). I lost my lug nut cover somehow. Do you know somewhere where I can find a replacement part? Thank you
Its bigger then the Kia souls I own a 2011 scion xb release series 8.0 and my roommate has a 2016 Kia soul sport and mine is bigger then his and handles and sounds better in my opinion

Yeah my aunt has a 2014 Xb and it’s burns half a quart of oil ever 700-1000 miles in the summer time. So I always checked it moderately.

My '13 is ok so far, you have to be a fanatic about your oil changes, just follow the manual.
