Even tho I held out for a Mk4, i still have a soft spot for a clean Mk3!
MotionAutoTv aayyyyeee motion, love your vids man
MotionAutoTv I have a soft spot for mk3's as well (-:
Me too. ;D
my favorite video is your single turbo swap on the 2jz. it's so informal and great. I'm definitely gonna watch it multiple times so I can do that to my mk3:)
If you like clean mk3s, check out mine!
My opinion the Mk 3 looks more 90s than the Mk 4 the boxy styling gives it away the Mk 4 looks like a 2000s or even 2010s car lol
Revv match1996 I agree with that
Revv match1996 yes and no, id say early 2000s. Look at the rear bumper on a mk4, not flush to the wheel well like newer modern cars
Revv match1996 I still can't believe how well the MK4 holds up looks wise.
ThatDudeinBlue I agree they still look very modern. In my eyes anyway. Btw would you like to review the 2018 civic type r when it comes out? I plan to get one
ThatDudeinBlue Toyota Over engineered the hell out of it lol
Not so much underrated, just overshadowed
Joshua Pichardo true
Joshua Pichardo predecessor, look it up ☝️
well said
True but the MK4 is all hype
Or isnt it that the mk4 is overrated (it is.. Its just a gt car that happened to have a very strong engine block, but many seems to think that any, even non turbo, automatic mk4 supras are hypercars.. lol) but its tuners are often underrated.. I bet they could easily make a mk3 as fast as any tuned mk4, seen some 1000 hp mk3s so its very possible
Is it just me or this Supra looks better than the MK4?
Steez R47 It does look better when customized imo
MrBluePoochyena same man. This is kinda like the R33 GT-R. No one really talks about them. Even tho I love the R32,R34 GT-Rs more but I still have a special place for the R33. And for this supra.
If I could put pop ups on my truck, life would be love
Steez R47 definitly just you and a small number of screwballs.
Thyny San screwballs? That's something new on the Internet...
I was 17 when this car came out. I bought one of the first ones off the boat for South Eastern Toyota in Georgia. The sticker price was $17,500.00 if I recall. I was in high school, and spent most days reading Car and Driver. What I initially wanted was the 1985 IROC Z, but then I read about the new 1986.5 Toyota Supra I HAD TO HAVE IT. It was supposed to compete with the Corvette (which it did not) with its 200 bhp In Line 6, 5 Speed Gear Box pus the "Sports Package" (Toyota Electronic Modulated Suspension, Limited Slip Differential, and Headlight Washers). For the record I was NEVER able to tell any difference in the three different suspension settings. White Exterior with Gray leather interior. At the time 225/55 VR16 Wheels and DIRECTIONAL Tires were not common at all. I took delivery of it on May 30th, 1986, just a few days before I graduated. Looking back, 200bhp was NOTHING compared to cars I would come to own later, but at 17, I will never forget driving that car off the lot. In my mind, it was BAD ASS, but in reality....well, it wasn't. Thanks for the review, it brings back lots of memories.
What do you own now?
200hp in 1986 wasn't bad at all. The 80's were full of econocar trash with no balls but they'd get 30mpg.
@@afrosheenix Exactly. corvette only had 250hp, 300zx had 200hp with a turbo. The mk3 supra had 200hp na and 232hp in turbo form, not bad for the time especially for a 3.0L engine of the era.
Buying a car at 17 is pretty badass
Forget all that, I think this car is bad ass NOW. It's not a go-kart, but it's not about the HP numbers. It's just a joy to drive with more than enough pick up.
Maybe I'm the only one but I've personally always thought the mk3 was much better looking than the mk4
Kenny TV with the right lip and some good paint they do and their lighter than the mk4 always loved all of mine
Kenny TV Because popups
Hell no
me too
Mk4 looks better
Thanks for watching guys!
What did you think of the MK3?
its badass
ThatDudeinBlue
I have always liked this car.
So good, definitely one of my favorites.
Sweet ride, but would have loved to see some of that flip up headlight action
Walking to school in grade 6-7-8, a guy lived along the way. Had a black one, and a white one. Thought nothing of them until I started hearing them, or see them being worked on outside. They were both nice cars by the time I switched my route up for highschool.
IMO this looks much better than the MKIV Supra.
that's cause you are a moron and hate REAL Supras and like fake ones like this
Pan S. Lol. So the Supra that came before the MKIV isn't a real Supra. Also where in my comment did I say I hated the MKIV? Cool story bro.
+Humza Ahmed when you said it looks better than the REAL Supra aka MK4
Pan S. Again, it doesn't say anywhere that I hate it. Grow up kiddo.
@Pan S. You're actually munted, Humza never said anywhere that he hated the MKIV Supra. I actually like both very much.
Mk3 Supras have cable driven speedometers that run right beside the exhaust. They commonly get roasted and stopped working especially with large aftermarket piping. Toyotas rarely have electrical problems
I prefer the mk3 over mk4 and I plan on getting a mk3 soon
Palm Trees N Flamingos you'll love it man I daily mine
Don't do it lol horrible car and you're going to be putting a shit ton of money into it
High On Summer I don't plan on daily driving it thats what my mk3 jetta glx is for.
Palm Trees N Flamingos Okay lol it isn't a good car in general why not buy something more sporty? The car is heavy as shit slow TERRIBLE suspension geometry and a poor engine
I see a ton of you guys talking about suspension geometry. What, exactly, about the suspension geometry do you not like?
The first sports car I ever drove was my friend moms Red MK3 Supra 5 speed, it was pry one of the most fun cars I have ever driven to this day and was the car that got me into Japanize cars I loved the way it looked with its pop up headlights and aerodynamic yet square appearance and the tail light going all the way across the back. I even liked the notchy shifter and the smooth power from the 7mge. I miss it so much I wanted to buy the car so bad but she would not sell it to anybody she loved that car and planned on keeping it till she got to old to drive it anymore but unfortunately my buddies mom got T-Boned by a truck running a red light last year and wiped the nose off the car. It was so sad she just had it repainted to and was low mileage, makes me sick to my stomach thinking about it. Was one of the worst phone calls I wish I never got. :. (
thats a cool ass mom.
"Japanize"
how did u manage to spell Japanese wrong
7mgte motors and r154 trans are beasts. seems to many ppl who dog this combo cant sequence& tq heads right and have an inability to install a MHG.. just cranking up boost and pop. hence why there is so many " 7m's suck" supporters
Bingo. It took me less than 2 hours to retorque mine and that was 4 years ago. I've put 60k km's on it since with absolutely no problems. Plus you can find 7M blocks for dirt cheap. I picked up a spare longblock with new pistons and MHG for 500 bucks last year, even had all the electronics/accessories on the engine still.
John Rykes yup love me a good 7m
7ms with a headgasket and turbo rebuild are amazing for a 350-400whp setup. Anything more than that you start spending wayy too much. But you can find a mk3 turbo for 3k. Put a headgasket and turbo upgrade and clutch on it for 2-3k at most and make that kind of power.
No shit 10k (price of car included) and you can do damage to a ton of newer cars.
Gil Barnett Toyota still denies they did the wrong torque spec, even though they fixed it...
Over here most people break the mk3's for the r154 manual box and throw the rest away 🙈
This. If you find a mk3 with a BHG on craigs for 1k buy it for hte trans.
Lol that sucks cuz this is a really good car
MONKY LONDON nom nom
its only 7psi with 300whp so a w58 will just fine. once you get to over 500whp then yes get a r154. 2 cents
yeah R154 FTW
Biggest reason they put the 7m in US market surpass was because it was a 3.0L vs the 1JZ which had only 2.5L. The people at Toyota thought that all Americans cared about was the whole 'bigger is better' stigma, even though the 1JZ is generally a superior engine.
RadiantGreen Not because bigger is better, but it was competing with other cars that had v8s that made more torque.
The Mk3 is fucking sexy. I'd rather have 1jzgte Mk3 over a mk4.
You're on drugs, sir.
Dodge Cummins Nobody wants a Mk3 over an Mk4. Nobody in their right mind that is.
I agree with him,
Mk4 gets too much attention. And it costs too much. I can buy a mint mk3 and a 1jzgte vvti with conversion kit for under 10k. Mk4 costs around 30k used and abused. 2jz is too costly when it comes to parts.
I agree, although I'm guessing you like torque, being a Cummins guy, so you might like 2Js or even a built 7M more than the 1J. 1J is fine with the stock twins, they spool low enough to provide torque at cruising RPMs, but once you put a single on it it will feel way more on/off than the 3L motors. When not in boost the 1J feels gutless, as it's just not a big enough engine to move the A70 chassis on its own.
my grandmas neighbor had one of these in blue sadly he passed away couple years ago
R.I.P man 🙏
AntiqueFarmImplement it's also spelled "peace". Why would you want someone to rest in pieces?
The neighbor of my parents has a white 89 t-top turbo... he NEVER drives it even if he put a ton of money into it.
+There, I fixed it. I'm the same way with my Supra. I don't want Mike's accumulated and it being ruined.
D-Pat coming out of the woodworks with these Reviews! Keep up the good work!
The man himself.
Broken speedo is likely a faulty cable not wiring, nice review! I had one back when and it always had a special place in my heart. Love your vids!
BWAAAAAAAAAAAAH
PSSHHHUUUU
Boosted exactly!
my favorite car ....bought an 89 mk 3 Na on Valentines Day, had only 50k in 1994, and drove it for 10 years. Nothing but oil changes, and a tune up , brakes etc. I then bought a !ST GEN Lexus Gs300 in 2004 and Im still driving that in 2017. Cant beat Toyota/Lexus
I had an 89 7M-GTE and it sucked down the gas like you wouldn't believe. Such an unbelievably fun car tho. For some reason old guys used to always come up to me calling it the poor mans Porsche of its day.
lol..
TheMiata to me it looks a lot like the Porsche 944 Turbo's
Yeah the front end has a similar shape
people keep saying my car is a pontiac haha or V8 swapped.
Yea it does eat gas. Especially if it has a turbo like mine. Fuel consumption ain't bad if you drive around 2500 rpm or less.
David - I feel that you need more in-car video. You shouldn't talk about the shifter, describe the shifter and not have ANY video of the shifter in action. I appreciate your insight into the cars you drive - you talk about some of the history, and you tell us how the car feels - but car after car, all we see is your face. We can understand how a car drives through the wheel, the shifter, and the pedals. PLEASE try to shoot more video of all 3 of those things in action. Your videos are good, I watch a lot of them - but my honest constructive feedback is that if you had more "action shots" of you driving this car, this video would be on a totally different level.
I wish we could see the road more instead of your face for most of the video. I don't mean that in a bad way, it betters the experience for the viewer. You can have a box of your face in the lower corner and the rest is what you see out the windshield.
also a proper mic wouldn't hurt
I don't need to hear the car and his voice shouting over it at the same time
Rofl
I got an 89 supra turbo in July, it's my dream car and I couldn't be happier. There aren't many factory turbocharged gt cars out there that you can pick up for under $3k. Glad you liked it. :)
Bad mpg = bad tune. I averaged 20 and got 27mpg on a long drive.Mostly stock 7mgte and wasn't even tuned.
My immediate thought. I was like, somebody didn't tune it right.
Yeah, and a bent shock, and a soft brake pedal, and busted speedo (not wiring harness, they're mechanical) Maybe when reviewing a car don't choose a P.O.S. example...
Hard to find a mk3 that wasn't beat to shit. Ricer years hurt them.
bad knock sensor wiring will allso cause horrible gas milage as well
But yeah like I said. Mine as on stock setup but with a littl emore boost and HG fix. I got 27 mpg on a highway trip for 7 hours. Mileage went down a bit when I ugpraded injectors without a tue though.
I still have mine “1989 Supra Turbo targa, 5spd” been sitting in a garage for the last 13yrs since I joined the Army at age 18. Already did a low mileage 7M jdm swap and mls headgasket w/arp’s, huge turbo upgrade with apexi controllers etc etc
First a bunch of bmws, then 90s Japanese cars,
That dude in blue you know the way to a mans heart lol
I had three MK3 Supras, two of which where 5 speed. The shifter should NOT be hard to get in gear and should almost fall in with a smooth bump. It sounds like the syncros are either worn or it has low oil.
Pro tip, Full synthetic is a dream for the transmission.
Also.. the 7M-GTE gets great gas mileage. Getting over 30MPG on the highway. My 88 Turbo Supra was very reliable. The only issue was that the stock head studs would walk out with heating and cooling over time, a quick fix is putting in head studs which you don't have to take the head off for the BOOM! good for 650+ HP. Although mine was very stock only putting down about 320HP at the wheels but making that from 4800rpms to 7200rpms. Extremely linnerier, loosing no power on shifts.
MK3 over the MK4 anyday.
MKIV over world peace over diarrhea over MKIII anyday.
Ray S Careful there Raymond Sevilla.
don't care.
cool. still don't care. you've already been reported to google and to the police for harassment. have a nice day.
keep it up and you're just digging yourself deeper
Just saying the MK3 Supra's have a cable running the speedometer, it's not by wire. It's a fairly common issue with these cars, just replace the cable and you're set. I had an 87 factory turbo car and I loved it. The R154 is an awesome transmission.
this car is not as popular as one would think because its HEAVY.I do like the looks though
still moves with a 1/2jz motor though.
Nick dominic indeed. but there are a lot of other rwd options that are lighter, so people usually go for those options an 1/2jz it.
how heavy?
3500lbs/1600kg
naw 3650
my dad has a mk3 supra that he has been working on for over 5years. it is heavily modded and pushes over 500hp currently
I am so glad to see this review... I just recently got a Miata and while I love it, I am wanting to eventually get another car to complement the Miata. I'm almost down to an FC Rx7, or a Mk3. The MK3 looks like an awesome, awesome car.
Owned two Mk III's years ago; an 86.5 and a 91. The manual 5 speed versions are GREAT drifting cars because of the wheelbase length, the narrow width of the car, independent rear suspension, over steer in the stock steering and the torquey / upper boosted power curve of its inline 6. Neither of mine were turbo's but the stock HP was just enough to put it into a slide by goosing the accelerator coming out of a hard 90 degree turn from 2nd to 3rd or 3rd to 4th gear.
Damn really killing it with the reviews recently. always had a soft spot for a mk3!
I own a 1988 MA70. 7M turbo auto trans. It is still fun to drive. It may lack some power compared to a 2JZ but I like the style of the MA70. It is getting some suspension upgrades at present. The TEMS doesn't work well after 34 years!!! Enjoy your cars guys.
It would be cool if you can review some classic muscle cars
please
please
alex ruiz he reviews whatever people let him
Shut your fucking mouth.
he's a rice boy so he will not.
Speaking about underrated generations of legendary cars, would you ever review a Gen 3 Camaro/Firebird?
most people when they look at this car, they have absolutely no idea what it is they are actually looking at ... the change in style is drastic from the MK3 to the MK4, its almost like they're completely different cars... I've always preferred the 90's Japanese square box style cars, Mercedes evo 2's, E30 m3's, Silvia's and so forth ... this car is just another great example of that era
Finally a MK3 😭
I got my mk3 supra. it's gloss black. some nice after market rims with low profile tires. Megan coilover suspension, right hand drive, standard, 7mgte! after market exhaust, tint windows, HID fog lights etc. very very clean car. 117 thousand km. factory black paint. no rust. interior mint. all I can say is I love my car 😍😍 I might post some vids
AE-86 + RX-7 + 240-SX = MK3 SUPRA :D
Thanks for this, always wanted you to review a MK3, especially with a 7m. The fact he went NA-t with this car really shows how dedicated the owner is. A MK3 supra with a factory 7mgte with a blown head gasket can be had for under $3000, a few basic bolt ons, lexus afm 550's and a 57 trim ct26(like the car in this video has) and you have a potent sports car/grand tourer. But he didn't do that. He chose to build up the 7mge, mad respect for doing that. I've been watching for a few years now but was never compelled to subscribe. This just did it for me. Subbed.
n/a to turbo... my type of guy!
Loved my 1989 MKIII Turbo. CT-26 compressor upgrade, a downpipe, 550cc injectors, Lexus AFM... Was running low 12's at 115 mph trap speeds on drag radials. Good times!
I remember I found a silver 89 MkIII with 90k miles for 8k and I wanted it as my first car badly ....
Danny Contreras Did you buy it?
My dad had one of these when I was younger. He had it straight piped, and I remember feeling so cool when he dropped me off at school in it lol. Ahh the memories, I loved that car.
Yup, the MKIII is the red headed stepchild. It just doesn't look right. It evolved from the (in my opinion) epic looking MKII, and can't hold a candle to the MKIV. But to say it is an ugly car? Nope... I'd rock it... I just don't prefer it.
My first car was a black $300 MkII with a red interior. Got it running and sold it for $1500 since I was 14 and didn't have any money to get it painted (I have plenty of time to barter before I get my licence that I still don't have lol). I got some pretty sweet deals after that.
The 7MGTE came both in the US and in Japan. It was only later that the 1JZ was implemented in Japan. I have a similar build with an N/A car and Japanese 7MGTE engine on a W58. It didn't come with EGR or vacuum for it either. Treated me good so far!
love the mk3, best Bang for your buck
Just looked up this era of Supra on cargurus, nationwide, and there are 5, all over 140,000 miles. These cars are so beloved. Not many are for sale and the ones are, were driven to the moon and back. I'll keep looking but for now I'll resent the fact that I wasn't born 30-ish years sooner.
Finally a mark 3.
Proud 7M-GTE + R154 owner here. :) Though, you've not heard a 7M properly, until you've heard it straight piped. It's not actually loud, it just sounds fucking amazing.
you should review my supra
Poor Man Mods when it runs 😂
hey it runs! the turbo just doesnt spin at the moment! :p
Poor Man Mods Gotta tuck a midget in your engine bay to blow in your turbo so you can drive it!
lmfao
THAT is the Mk 3 that I want to see with the 7M. We dont need to see any more 2J swapped cars. Cool car.
I feel stuffed in that car and your the one driving it lol
Jourdan Johnson Its his seating position. I'm 6'1" and if I put my seat all the way back in mine I can't even touch the pedals.
actually hella roomy.
man, nice intro sequence. thoroughly enjoyed the cuts being on beat with the music like that
Aww I wanted you to review my stock supra :(
contact him
Alberto 9324 how? I have an 86 indy pace car corvette that he should review
ConstipatedRussian
doesnt he have an email in description or on his about page? he should
the best part of this channel is not only previously unknown info on cars, but the music as well
I was about to get a mk3 supra but I got a Miata
***** Why?
***** really is that the only reason?
FEARTHETACOMAN You should know, you bought it
Good call, mk3 is a damn land whale.
im sorry
My two cars I am getting this year will be a mk3 Supra with a GTE. Also a 2001-2004 Lexus IS300/200/Altezza with the 2jz-ge.
Have the Supra to build total "racecar" with the normal daily luxuries still. Meanwhile swapping a 1jz-gte into the IS.
(Keep the Supra a 7m-gte because I love the way they sound.)
(Swapping the IS to a 1jz instead of a gte-2jz is also because of sound.)
The 3 engines are ultimately all capable easily of the 600HP I will be pushing for so having the "strongest" of the engines doesn't exactly matter to me. I love low range torque(which is what the 7m is good for) and the more "free-revving" you get with the 1jz, accompanied by the sound is worth more(its also a lil cheaper than a 2jz).
I'm a little worried for you Dave. For safety reasons, I would make a simple rule to NOT review cars with a damaged suspension. People need to fix their cars before asking for a review. This Supra is totally not worth a potentially fatal crash at triple digit speeds. In this case speed unknown.
Just bought an A70. The first and second gears are trashed anyway (guessing it was drifted a bit in a previous life), but I'm very glad to hear that I wasn't imagining the amount of "commitment" required when shifting through 3rd and higher gears.
OP, if you even read these anymore, do you also feel an immense satisfaction when you slam the stick into gear? It's just such a deliberate feeling.
@ruclips.net/video/mwIm7t9AtSY/видео.htmlm39s Confused with the FC RX-7?
TRIGGERED!
Peter Guthrie Its like saying camaro and mustang look the same... fc and mk3 are completely different cars, visually and mechanically.
*****
1) It's a joke.
2) I would be able to tell the difference. I own an FC.
I have a bone stock '87 N/A Automatic. Yeah, it's probably slow, but I don't really know because the engine developed a nasty knock after the first 40 miles of driving it after I reassembled it and got it road worthy. One year of work for 40 miles. Oh well. Back story: previous owner rebuilt the engine and reinstalled it, never reassembled it and it sat for 8 years. I bought it as a basket case and got it running hoping to have a cool little car. But just as I began to see the the light at the end of the tunnel, it decides to crap out.
I'm early bitches !!
Had an 87 supra 7MGE from 02 to 05. The reason they didnt come with the 1JZ is because of americas emission standards. We were much more strict on emissions which is why most of the hondas, nissans and toyotas all came with detuned engines back in that time period. The MK3 didnt get that much love because the 7Ms had head gasket issues. They were always blowing. Also, they were heavy , my mk3 was a tank. So naturally people gravitated towards the 240sx, civic, integras, and mr2s.
It wasnt underrated, it was junk lmao. They looked good, but were heavy, slow, 7M wasnt a good motor, went through head gaskets like crazy, and they are still crazy expensive just because they carry the name "Supra"
7M only goes through headgaskets if the head-bolts weren't retorqued as per Toyotas service bulletin at some point in their life. And they aren't expensive, atleast not in my Canada where I live. You can find a decent condition mk3 turbo for around 5k.
You're a fucking idiot.
NjBorn holy shit man you are a creative genius! You should write for the sun times!
exactly
they're cheap. have been for a decade. not junk. the 7m is the weakest link. but when set up properly makes good power and is reliable.
but a mk3 with a 1j is a great machine.
Tough to find such a clean one; thumbs up on this video. So true... I knew a guy that said he'd never sell his Supra Mk 3. 5 speed was the common manual then, and though it is less common now, it's not all that unheard of. Another misnomer, electrics in the 80's were not all that rare, pretty common on middle to upper level models. It's just that you used to be able to buy cars without option packages; you could get cars with no side mirrors, manual windows, no armrests no a/c etc.
Have a 1988 Mk3 7mgte with Targa that I bought in 1991. Great car, had the leather interior restored and new patient back in 2008. Love the car!
Just picked up an 88 supra. this review made me smile.
Same here. Thought the American version came with the 1j until I recently found out it was a 7M. I still want a Mark III someday
Your channel is not only nice if you like cars, but also when you want to find some nice music ^^keep it up
I'm restoring my 88 mkiii , just beautiful, the reason the north American models didn't come with the 1jz is the fuel in Japan is higher octane so the motors we get are detuned but the 1j is a 2.5 wher as the 7mgte is a 3l , it's just a less fancy 2jz . The 7mgte is capable of the same power as a 2jz
had an mk3 supra. seats were the most comfortable I've ever been in
Its actually pretty cool looking, glad I found out about them , now added to my list of favourite tuners.
My son fell in love with the early MKIII's after seeing my '90 Probe GT finally out of the garage not being the shelf everyone used it for and washed and looking as it should. He did an Instagram search for that era of 2 door hatch and found the MKIII Supra. I found him an '87 Turbo Targa and got home a KILLER DEAL on it and I got to liking the lines and such so well I also bought one😁🤣😂.
That particular supra may not have ABS but many of them did come with it from the factory or a similar form of it (Called a combination brake valve). Just a heads up for those of you who may want to purchase one in the future and not having abs was a deal breaker.
My gearbox was shifting a kind of ruff too but after putting some new oil in the gearbox and differential and renewing the clutch fluid it works way better!!! Still has big ways to move from 2-3 or 4-5 but it engages way more easy. Try it! much better to shift faster.
Mark 3 has mechanical speedometer and what it is is this little tab you got to disconnect it from underneath going to the transmission you could fabricate peace out of a nail if you wanted I had the same issues with the one I had
This _really_ makes me even more itchy to finish my Z31 because I only live three hours from you and I would *gladly* like to see someone else enjoy it.
Did you finish it yet?
4:00 The W58 Transmission feels sooooo good to shift
My buddy has a MK3 with a 1JZ and BW S362 and it was a beast. Unfortunately it's blown up in his garage but man it was fun
Funny you say it has bad gas milage. Buddy has an 87 7M and was just talking about how the gas milage is good. Then again his is NA, and his other/first car is a lifted 94 4Runner with a 3.4, lockers front and back, and big ass rubber. That thing probably gets 10 overall MPG... Still nice to see more supra love.
Once you get the supra for a car it rewards you in so many ways just needs attention. I got a 7mge fully rebuilt and even a rebuilt 7mge its fast and the gearing just goes forever and it will gladly cruise and rev wherever you want it to.
FYI speedo has a cable not wiring. Common for them to fail as they ran the cable right by the exhaust pipe. Great video!
I used to have a 1988 Supra when I was 18 in 2006 god it was a lot of fun my dad helped me fix it up had great memories
That sounds awesome man, I would have loved that experience. I've been doing the same since last year when I got my 88 because I remembered my dad had one in 2001 (that he paid WAY less for hahaha) and I thought it was the coolest car I've ever been in.
I assume you don't have it anymore, but I hope you enjoyed it while you did. I fixed mine up a ton with LEDS and other mods, window panels. Take her to shows now. What an amazing car!
That's funny. For some reason I too was under the impression that MK3s were sold with 1JZs stateside.
Speedo problem is definitely the speedometer cable, Mk 3 speedometers are run using a cable that runs from the transmission to the dash cluster and rotates. It's made up of three separate cables and sometimes they seize up. Had to replace mine this year.
My red 1990 turbo targa supra was a beast. I miss it , and watch videos like this from time to time when I long for it.. Absolutely solid card. If you want to get from L.A to New York as fast and as comfortably as possible. Get one of these , slammed with a performance tune pushing 350 hp. Damn I miss it. 😕
It's funny you mention the FC/MKIII thing bc I'd like my next daily to be and LS1 FC and project to be a MKIII, so thank-you! Have a good day!
Mark 3 Supra was the first car i owned, around 2000. Insurance, gas price and repair costs were brutal...but that raw power you felt in the driver seat was worth it. Definately not an all around year car if you live anywhere that has the slightest chance of freezing temps/snow. just one inch of snow on the road and this thing becomes a public hazard.
5 years is a long time for this owner. But , I Just wanted to say I am the original owner of a 1988 White w/Blue interior Toyota Supra with a targa roof in excellent condition which has treated me very well. Did not realize what I purchased at the time. love my MKIII !
Dude, do you still have it?! I would be astonished if you do because I've never met an original owner. Most people don't hold on to them for too long. If you did, you must have done the ARP bolts headgasket replacement.
I got a 116K mile grey NA/auto 88' last year and it's become my favorite car ever. I've calculated for inflation that these were something around $70K at the lot, that's crazy.
Next to the Toyota Century (doesn't really count at all) the 88' Supra was Toyota's nicest car at the time bar none. Lexus wasn't even around, but I think it's the nicest interior I've ever seen 100%.
I just bought a 1991 Supra Mk3 1jz-gte. It is a JDM. I'm surprised that the m7 you drove gets such terrible gas mileage. Mine gets 26 interstate, which is great as I drive mine daily. I was also surprised by the amount of electric options on it, I have power retracting mirrors. You get that on top of the line Mercedes and BMW.... but this is a 91' extremely surprised and i love it for taking it to the mall or parallel parking. It's true, I used to drive European cars all the time, but I love this little right hand drive Supra.
I miss that car which that car let me explain, it was a grey 89 supra with different headlights than from the video. It was a bit old and rusty. There was a muffler within it and it sounded loud. So when I was back in 7th grade, my dad had it after my uncle and my gramps. My dad usually drop me off and picked me from school like always. 1 year later, it was down so my dad gave it to his coworker.I really missed it so much.
Please try to find a R31 skyline to review. I found one on a importers dealership and thinking about picking it up. I have a s12 as well and watched your s12 review. You always have so much useful/interesting information, keep it up man love the videos.
Finally man, did the mk3. Why doesn't it have the R154 though? Pretty reliable until you start getting into 500HP area. Got about 5k in parts into mine, round 400HP, makes all the stock sti's round here look silly 😁
Man thank you for doing this review, have been waiting a while lol. I got an 87 hardtop that I am gonna be restoring. The last owner threw a rod through the GE block out the oilpan which was good for me as I wanted to swap everything out anyways. I want to do 7MGTE with the upgraded 57 trim CT26 and R154 tranny. Want to see 400hp as a daily. Got it for a steal though. Clean title, and the body or interior isn't like falling apart, only $600!
Can't believe i forgot about this car. This was the car I wanted the most 2 years ago. Going to get one now, haha.
I was surprised when I bought my 89 Volvo 740 it came with electric windows and door locks but manual door mirrors and manual sunroof.
