It's interesting how the Grand Inquisitor started out as a Vader/Maul stand in, but has gone on to get a legacy as a genuinely good Star Wars character and villain. Like many of the best things in Star Wars, he is sincere and committed in his simplicity and that's why he works.

The inquisitors remain to be one of the most mishandled concepts in recent Star Wars. I’m so sick of seeing inquisitors die in 10 seconds because “oH dUDe aHsoKa Is sO uBeR pOWerfUl brO” it doesn’t make her look strong, it just makes the inquisitor look weak. Inquisitors are NOT cannon fodder. If you need a cannonfodder lightsaber duel enemy, that’s why purge troopers exist.
It makes absolutely no sense that fallen Jedi who have been consistently trained in the force and dueling for the last 5-10 years consistently lose to Palawan’s who cut themselves off from the force or haven’t trained much since order 66.
In my opinion, the weakest inquisitor should be about as skilled as Marrok was - he loses the duel, but he put up a really great fight and actually lasted long enough to have 2 duels against Ahsoka, a very powerful Jedi. No inquisitor should ever go down in 10 seconds.
To this day we still have never seen an inquisitor kill a Jedi on screen, and we’ve never seen them kill a Jedi in a lightsaber duel……

That's how Disney inquistiros started, and they wouldn't change because of 2 things:
-Filoni was in charge of a show
-First Inquisitor is their leader and strongest member, and he loses to two padawans out of all force users
In old canon we had inquisitor's goons as BOSSES, and Inquisitor as final boss (High Inquisitor Jerec and his Seven Dark Jedi), they were really formidable, considering Kyle was able to wipe out imperial outposts without force, and with force he became a one man army, and Jerec was stated to be equal to Vader after he absorbed Valley of the Jedi energy

@@lukeman4264 then they are redundant, even Royal Guards are more competent at their job, because at least they didn't went extinct before OT and their strongest member wasn't defeated by some newbie

@@mrzirak792 I didn’t even think of that, that they can never be stronger than the grand inquisitor otherwise it wouldn’t make sense. But that’s why I’m saying the weakest should be as skilled as Marrok. What sucks is that the Jedi are always the main characters, so you can’t necessarily kill them. But still they should never go down without putting up a really good fight at least

Whilst I enjoy the Inquisitors, I also feel they've been greatly mishandled. Take Marrok for example, we just learn absolutely nothing about him despite him being the longest lived one. He has one raspy line when responding to Shin just going "Yes my lady", has 2 fights with Ashoka, and dies in the second. As he dies as well, he explodes violently with green nightsister magic, and seemingly shrinks down much like Savage Opress did when Palpatine killed him. This brings up so many questions the show just, refused to even acknowledge. Was Marrok a Nightsister zombie or was he a Savage situation? His appearance in TOTE tells us he was a jedi originally but we have nothing to fill this gap in history between appearances. If he was a zombie, then why don't the nightsisters just raise an army of undead force wielders to overwhelm the middling amount of jedi still around.

Im about to go study the Inquisitors, because it appears the Expanded Universe had them too, though their structure is not expanded upon like Disney's take on the Inquisitors. There was different tiers of Inquisitor, High Inquisitor, and Grand Inquisitor. Jerec, who Kyle Katarn defeats, was a former High Inquisitor.

Yet for Kennedyfilm’s Inquisitors, they mean nothing. Lucasfilm’s Inquisitors are miles away nuanced compared to the inconsistently handled version.

I'd like to imagine the Inquisitorius (especially everyone other than the inquisitiors themselves) aren't 100% focused on hunting the jedi. There are other light side force religions Palpatine would consider a threat and I really want to see how they're handled by the empire.
Personal headcanon is that they don't quite have the public backing to openly hunt them down same as the Jedi. I'm thinking they would send purge troopers to occupy places of worship hoping to intimidate, suppress, or better yet, goad them into an ill fated rebellion.
Really, I just want to see a squad of purge troopers outside a Baran Do temple taking chain codes and staring down people just trying to meditate.

The problems with the Disney inquisitors
    - killed off the grand inquisitor: by killing the leader of the order it makes every other one of them less threatening since we know how heroes can defeat the best of them.
    - introduced in a kids show : rebels was more light hearted than TCW and made the inquisitors very bumbling
    - the sabers : the spinning blade was silly especially they are flying
And this purely me but they don’t act like an inquisition, they are largely separated from the empire unless they need mooks
The legends inquisitors felt more sinister, had more varied designs, and the writing made them feel like a fleshed out origination.

We don't really know if Marrok survived ROTJ, he is a revived corspe by Morgan's nightsister magic, his death is unclear

From my understanding, Marrok didn't really go past the Empire age and outlive his usefulness in the traditional sense. Sure, that's his body, but it's been widely speculated that he has indeed been revived with night sister magic, presumably from Morgan, hence the green smoke coming out of his body once Ahsoka strikes him down

I honestly hated Barriss' turn away from the Inquisitors. Turning away from the Dark Side is a story we've seen a million goddamn times, and it completely wastes the premise of Barriss even joining.
In a show called _Tales of The Empire_ we could've actually gotten to see Barriss remain loyal to the Empire and continue her work with the Inquisitors throughout its reign, perhaps explore what place in the galaxy she may have found after the destruction of the Second Death Star. But from the way Barriss acts she couldn't have been an Inquisitor for more than a _month_ before turning away.
    Just a complete waste.

To answer your question, if a TV show contradicts established canon in books then the TV show version would be canon.

    • @Biodragon882
      @Biodragon882 2 месяца назад +2

that was the old canonicity scale, but Disney threw that out with the aquisition. They told us that everything is on the same level of canon and importance, and have yet to change their stance on such, so just contradict themselves willy nilly.

Great video my friend! I initially was a big fan of the Inquisitors, but as time has gone on I’ve seen a lot more problems with them. But I also have seen the ideas you’ve brought up for them as characters. The issue I see is that those ideas and concepts have not been executed well in recent media. Third Sister from Kenobi is by far my least favorite. The idea of being able to break free of the conditioning is a cool concept, but it then undermines Vader’s capabilities. And in the case of Marok, I like believe that he had died in service of the Empire but was revived by Nightsister magic. Hence the explosion of green smoke out of him. Cause if he ACTUALLY survived past ROTJ, the question then is what he was doing this whole time? The idea of the Inquisitors living past even Empire IMO really throws a wrench in the mix of the overall story of the OT and the suspension of disbelief. Eventually Luke becomes the Empires biggest target. As to why any Inquisitors wouldn’t be tasked to search for him and the Rebels doesn’t make sense to me. Which then leaves me in a place where the Inquisitors, no matter how cool they can be or how well they are written as characters, can’t do as many great things as they should, because they are all doomed to die. Now I still really enjoy the Inquisitors. But I have a hard time now seeing them being more important than a threat for Jedi to get rid of.
