    Excellent video. I know I for one expected a show called the acolyte, featuring a bunch of young Jedi to have some semblance of connection to what it is to be a Jedi, and have great lightsaber choreography. Silly me, It’s just a terrible sci-fi mystery that both didn’t make sense, and didn’t really even need to be a Star Wars project.

    Interesting video. One thing I find odd is the notion that lighstabers are weightless. I've never seen this to be the case when looking at the 6 Star Wars films. I'm sure they would feel different from your typical sword, but they must be similar enough to depict a familiar fighting style.

      Yeah, I’ve seen this notion passed around, but I don’t feel that the films support this. Lucas himself has gone back and forth on how heavy they’re meant to be. In the OT he likened them to an Excalibur type weapon in terms of significance, thus having both heavy literal and metaphorical weight, but I never thought he considered them utterly weightless even in the Prequels.
      Really it would be impossible to make that appear on-screen properly because it would essentially forgo the existence of a blade for the prop. Something that Rise of Skywalker actually seems to have done on some occasions given that the sabers occasionally pass right through each other with no actual contact, but with added in VFX and sound to trick you. Looking at the actual props behind the scenes nowadays, they’re shorter and much thicker because they house the light up features. This also means they end up bouncing off each other awkwardly rather than making a solid connection when they hit.

      @a_fine_edition2746 If lightsabers were weightless, the fluidity would be gone in exchange for erratic and unpredictable rapid motions. The props were remarkably heavy in the OT and GL did want to lean into that, GL also wanted to show the Jedi at the height of their power in the PT so the fighting looks a lot more elegant, yet it's obvious they still have weight to the blades. It boggles my mind how they went with the choreo they did in the ST, though. I guess it matches the rest of the movies: flashy yet without substance.

  • @KidPrarchord95
    @KidPrarchord95 День назад +1

    Lightsabers are not and never were weightless. Lucas even specifically went out of his way in the first movie to depict them as exceedingly heavy. As well, as a necessity of the props being used, the blades used in the actual movies had weight to them, and all of the animation to follow depicted them that way. If the lightsaber blades were weightless then the optimal strategy with them would be to exclusively attack with forward thrusts and erratic wrist flailing. I don't care what some random EU writers misconceived 25 years ago; lightsabers were not intended to have weightless (even starting out the exact opposite), and none of their depictions have ever matched up with that idea being true.

    A decent vid though while to me it feels like retreading ground with not much new added its very well edited and gets those points across perhaps for people who dont know this already if they ever watch it. One fun detail you might like to know, Finn and Rey throughout TFA keep pressing the wrong button to turn it on. The on switch is the big rectangular button on the side, the tiny red thing they push on the back is actually the blade length adjustment dial. Read the Visual Dictionary from 1998 and other sources. That one also mentions on pg 6 that lightsabers when powered create an energy wave that acts to create a gyroscopic effect for the weapon further aiding its Jedi wielders to use it.
    Oh yeah one more fun fact, according to the TLJ novelization she downloaded all Kylos training into her head when he was interrogating her in TFA nd she somehow turned it back on him. Gotta love consistency and continuity

    I thought the acolyte had the best fightscenes since the prequels, the kelnokka fight was kinda iffy bc you want to convey the raw power of a wokkie but also need to have a swordfight, which isnt based on power, but besides for that it say the fights were really good! I much prefer smilinren fighting sol than anakin vs dukku, which really doesnt have much emotional weight to it, you can barely see whats going on, and could have been cut out if the movie entirely and nothing would change.

      "The best lightsaber fights since the prequels" as if that's supposed to be impressive. Besides the games what even has choreography people call impressive that's come out since then? TCW? No, all of those fights are boring, floaty messes. Visions? Maybe, if you like all style and no substance.

    Alright, tbh this video has some really dumb points. Like the injury’s thing
    What people have survived the most ridiculous of injury’s in the prequels then about the kylo face point, Obi Wan gets sliced across multiple of his joins yet completely makes a full recovery.

    • @MaxofZorroReviews
      @MaxofZorroReviews  4 часа назад

      I appreciate the comment, and I absolutely agree. But I think that the inconsistencies of lightsaber damage are on degrees of badness across the movies. The OT isn't perfect on this point but it's the most consistent for sure. The prequels are very loosey-goosey with their damage (and with everything else lol), but the sequels and especially the TV shows seem almost vindictive and spiteful with their lack of care about damage.
      I see it this way; the OT is like the oldest brother who can do a skateboard ollie - not perfectly, but he can usually land it. The PT is the little brother who wants so badly to be like the older brother but fails to land the ollie most of the time, usually tripping and smashing his face into the concrete. But his heart is clearly in it and it's entertaining to watch him try.
      The ST is the weird step-brother who talks a big talk about how good he can ollie, but only in the grass, and also skateboards are stupid and you're stupid if you actually care about skateboarding.

      @@MaxofZorroReviewsanother point is that your point of lightsabers being “weightless” is absurd. Just watching any scene in the original 2 trilogies the blades clearly have weight otherwise you’d be able to move it around like an effing flashlight. The “DiSnEy” duels are pretty much like the OT duels with how lightsaber physics are handled, also tbh the modern duels (especially in the ones from Ahsoka and acolyte, yeah that show is still awful I’m not defending it) actually look like fights, the prequel duels half the time look like dance battles with characters intentionally missing each other a tonne just to uselessly spinning around. Anakin vs obi wan has done comical moments and abhorrent camera angles

    Excellent video. But why did you try so hard with writing a script and having matching visuals? You could have flashed colors at us whille riffing using almost solely Gen Alpha Slang Words with a remix of a Tik Tok Song in the background! It would have totally conveyed the same experience and you wouldn’t have to spend as much time or effort!
