It's not possible in handhelds. PSP tried it and it was horrendous. I think we're in the time of holographic storage, just a flat sheet of metal topped with the hologram. You heard it here first.

I prefer it over CDs because I feel it won't have the same complications(scratches when console tilts). I don't mind the high prices for the physical games as they actually have resale value unlike digital downloads.

For say when i bought a game whilst traveling and don't have a steady internet connection wherever i'm staying. Cloudsaving isn't perfect either. @Moonfall777 exactly and for me the portability is great especially since I share a TV with my gf and shes able to play her games on the TV while can take the switch out the dock
I always buy physical copies if available. I can lend and resell them, and we need to support them to avoid going all digital, which would kill second-hand market
One thing that's nice about Nintendo is they do what they gotta do to keep their resale values up. I bought Zelda for about $60 new, played it for almost 300 hours and completed it, then easily resold it for $45. In hindsight, I could have bought it used and possibly made all my money back after completing it. That's a free game right there.
I hope Nintendo keeps partnering with retailers. I don't want physical media to die out. Sure, the price thing is a bit annoying, but if that's the quite literal price we pay to keep physical games a thing, I'm fine with it.
Physical will always be better, when you buy a physical game, you own the product, a digital purchase is no more a license to play it which can be revoked at any time with no prior notice. The Wii shop channel will shut down tomorrow, and you won't be able to play the games you paid for, unless you have them in memory and don't delete them.
Lazym00se Funny you should say that. I haven't played shovel knight, but recently learned there was going to be a physical copy. Even though the physical is 15 dollars more, I'm waiting for it instead of buying it physical.
@@fishfan2 you're not wrong but that's also true of disks. Cartridges are also more compact and have the capability to hold more data than regular disks.

@@jameswylie5893 Most Switch physical games costs $10 more than their counterparts because it costs more to make those cartridges than it does to mass produce blu ray discs.
This video is incorrect and inaccurate in many ways. Notice that the video does not cite any sources or figures to back up its claims. Mainly that its switch cartridges cost more than alternatives. First, "Switch" carts are not Flash memory, they are mask memory. Flash memory uses substrate layers to hold static chargers to create binary data. Mask roms use special masks to build memory circuits at a very low-cost process. And yes, carts may contain "Flash", but only for auxiliary purposes (updates, fixes, user data, etc.). Second, the cost is a combination of: physical media, hardware player, and licensing. Hence, if Switch were to have a Blu-ray player, it would need to pay licensing to sony and other companies for every aspect. That along makes the cost difference negligible. And its the same reason Gamecube used a different disc system and why XBOX could not natively play DVDs.
Not only that but the speed of the cartridges is higher than what any non-expensive flash card would allow, and its more durable. It's a completely different system then simply a flash card. There's also special hardware on that to prevent modifications and every cartridge has their own decryption HW as well..
They're _not_ mask ROMs. The manufacturer doesn't make mask ROMs bigger than 128 mb. They have a technology called "XtraROM" which is probably something like a write-once PROM. The company claims a lifespan of 20 years at 85 degrees C, while mask ROMs would last essentially forever.
The uploader didn't think about the fact that the new cards are new almost solely to avoid people from making SD card rom kits like they do for the 3DS for example. Nintendo wants it to be a lot of work and inconvenient to get every game for free. That's most of the whole argument, and shorter than this lazy video. Think Nintendo Gamecube. Tiny disc, spins backwards, avoided losing a billion dollars to CD burners which killed the Sega Dreamcast.
I can't watch any video with him in it, because as you said it sounds like he's held at gunpoint and it annoys don't know why they have him narrating the video lol
psychology is the reason is my guess. It's a handheld with small carts, but branded as a home console handheld hybrid. The larger cases need to represent that in order to make more sales.
@Migs I also feel like it’s so the can stand out. For example walking into game stop if you have a ps4 then the blue is going to stand out to you right away. But if the cases were small then it wouldn’t as much possibly
The fact that people still complain about the price of games when the price has only gone up like 10 dollars in DECADES completely ignoring inflation and the larger teams required to make AAA games nowadays is beyond me. But people love complaining about their first world "problems." PS I realize the hypocrisy in complaining about people complaining which is literally the epitome of "first world problems." It part of the sadonicism.
The big case is for visibility of possible shoplifters in physical stores. Just in case some TikTok gen kids would want to know how easy it is to go to jail.
Can't see any problems with Nintendo's strategy. Love cartridges. My first videogame discs (PSone, Saturn, ...) have started dying, but my cartridges from the 70s and 80s still work fine. As a collector I'm always willing to pay a little more, if it means that a game will be playable for decades more...
Zero Kill Bit rot is a kind of degradation of data, which is a problem on disc based mediums. Eventual data on discs deteriorates to the point they cannot be read.
Kirby of the Stars while true we are talking about a process that will start after 15years or so. Granted its earlier then the initial 30 years we expected, but CDs were never a “lifetime” medium. Which is pretty much human nature by now. I remember working in a TV repair shop back in the late 90s early 2000s and ... well we reached a point where a TV doesn’t get replaced because its broken but because you want a better one.
By the time discs stops working, odds are that you don't even play them anymore, or sold them and the console long ago to buy newer ones. Pretty much a non-issue unless you are a collectionist who keeps a museum of fully functional consoles for historical conservation purposes
Nintendo Switch cartridges are mask ROMs, not Flash memory. They're read only and can't be overwritten / updated. This has some advantages over flash in that the data will never be accidentally overwritten or corrupted, but any software updates have to be stored on the Switches memory / SD card.
the thing with that is, usually re-releasing an older game even on another console years later it will be way cheaper. majority of switch ports retain their full $60 price even tho they're way older.
yea but waste majority of the 3rd party ports is new to an nintendo console.when an old game is released for an new adience the games are full priced or close.that is nothing new it always has been like that
Dimitrios Zikos Not even. I think a huge reason why Nintendo’s games rarely go on sale or never receive price drops is due to the fact that Nintendo’s sole revenue source is video games. This contrasts with Sony and MS, as they are both larger companies. Also, PlayStation and Xbox has more services that people subscribe to as well. Nintendo’s online offering is pretty trash, but you can bet that they’re making an amazing profit off of an online service that should be free. Maybe they’ll have a bit more sales in the future due to charging for online now.
nintendo games always sell botw still selling.i wouldent lower the price either if it makes me money.sony games has no long term value.nintendo games does.
the cartridges still only cost a couple of dollars to produce。 its more expensive than cds, but truthfully thats not the reason for the price. They just choose to market it higher for more profits. Thats all. They are nintendo, they are portable, and they know their buyers will pay more.
seeing how nintendo have closed online for older consoles rendering your online purchases screwed, physical is the best way to go. dvd / br / cd media just does not last & its not robust. these carts will still be going in 20 years.
My only gripe is when the whole game doesn't fit on one card the publisher requires the consumer to download the rest as opposed to putting it on two cards. Seems like Nintendo needs to offer a 64gb card.
I think they already confirmed that they are working on a 64GB card but besides that fact publishers need to use the cards available and not "cheap out", because there are 32GB cards out there and publishers often use the 16GB variant to save costs and the consumer has to download the rest. Or even better: They only use a 8GB or 4GB variant instead of the 16GB one.
@@michaelsvensson9259 Final Fantasy XV ;) It's true but it's a bit different if there is a card that's big enough (32GB) and the publisher chooses to not use it and instead "cheap out" with the 16GB variant (or even smaller ones).
@@michaelsvensson9259 Nope, they're just day 1 patch. You can still play the game without patching it. Plus base models already start at 500gb, so storage is not much of an issue. Unlike switch's 32gb internal storage. Buying a big capacity sdcard makes the switch even more expensive than ps4/xbox base model.
A lot of multi platform games are the same price. Tales of vesperia, megaman collection and street fighter 30th collection was all the same cost. Fifa18 was really cheap on the switch too. The few multi plats or ports that are more expensive, simply wait for a sale
Tbh, I'm willing to pay the extra if it means physical copies are still around. There's something about obtaining a physical copy vs downloading a digital copy that makes physical copies special. Opening one up feels much nicer than just clicking an option in your menu. Not to mention, storage space isn't really much of a problem with physical copies. Physical copies probably won't be around much longer, so I'm going to enjoy them while they're still around. If you have a physical copy, you own the game. If you have a digital copy and either the company revokes for some reason or goes out of business, you leave with nothing.
Oo yaa and it has nothing to do with the FACT that they MUCH MORE MONEY Digital games should be atleast 30% cheaper No Disc or cartridges No Shipping Fees No Retailer CUT of the profits but yet they aren't and this has nothing to do with keeping retailers happy not to mention all companies want to go ALL DIGITAL so they can take the little Customer Rights their Customers have and MAKE MORE MONEY after all companies have only 1 types of customers INVESTORS
Yeah, with a physical version you can play in whatever identical console (in this case a Switch) you want AND you don’t have to worry about your local storage nearly as much.
I’m pretty sure Nintendo does physical copies for people who don’t have debit or credit cards- wait I take that back doesn’t Nintendo have gift cards for Eshop so that really means. . . Physical copies are here for no reason.
Some really important things you forgot to mention: publishers up to this point haven’t even gone for the 32gb carts yet as it’s too expensive And buying on the eShop, on the other hand, provides you 5% back off of your purchase to spend on the eShop itself. Which is kind of a way of making the games cheaper at the end of the day.
It's also "kind of a way" of forcing you to keep shopping there. "Well, I could go to Gamestop, but I've got $4.32 on the eShop that I'll never get back."
Patrick Lewis Sure, but $3 each time you buy a $60 game is free money. “Never get back”...? You’d rather have only Gamestop and not have the discount at all? 🤕 Logic..
What a load of b.s. - always using the “cost” excuse to justify massive profits and markup and heard this for over 25 years - like a broken record. The fact remains these proprietary cards are not much more to produce due to the sheer amount produced in Japan. All these are made in Japan and mostly automated. The more that are produced, the cheaper the cost so this further verifies that “cost” is not the factor on its own. It’s a PCB with a nand chip just like a USB drive but a custom design and shape - that’s it. Nand prices have dropped over the years due to prevalence so again this proves cost is not the main reason. I suspect pure profit is the reason for the high cost. I would love to see a cost of manufacturing breakdown just for materials and the cost breakdown as it leaves the factory and I imagine we would all be shocked at how cheap they are. As for the physical and digital being the same price, this is referred to as price fixing as the digital version would be cheaper than the physical version due to no manufacturing, distribution, shipping costs however it appears Nintendo is using this system to keep the retailers in business. To deliberately keep price parity between both options indicates a deliberate intent to defraud. This also means the incentive to buy digital plus storage costs is negated and people opt for physical as less inconvenience with micro sd storage.
Honestly, I've noticed that sales in the eShop are significantly better than physical copies when they go on sale for the most part, and not only that eShop sales happen more regularly than they do for physical games. You also get significantly more points when purchasing games through the eShop than you do with a physical copy, those points are basically Nintendo money you can use towards other digital downloads. For people like me who never sell their games, it's not a bad alternative for some games. I'll still buy physical ones as my primary choice but if it's not a game I care about a lot and the eShop sale is super good, I'll opt for the digital download.
I've never noticed switch games being more here in Canada. As for discs they're dying media. Cartridges read faster and last longer than disc as even if you look after them really well you've got good odds your disc will suffer disc rot.
I doubt the high price of the Switch cartridges is due to its proprietary nature. Nintendo certainly uses standard Flash chips in their cartridges. The only proprietary thing is probably the shell. So the high price is due to the fact that Flash storage is expensive. SD cards wouldn't change anything about that.
as long as you don't pull the game out while you're playing or the game is active, you'll be fine. The Switch is also a little bit sturdier than it's older counterparts, the DS series (OG to 3DS), and holds the cartridge A LOT better. I don't understand the fixation on the cartridges, the only real downside to the Switch in my opinion is the problem Nintendo has been having the the joycons on both the dockable Switch and the Lite with stick drift. You only really have a few options when that happens: 1. send it in to Nintendo and be out of a Switch/joycon(s) for a while until they repair and mail back 2. purchase at GameStop and purchase the warranty and exchange for a fresh new console 3. trade in the joycons at GameStop and use the money towards a new set of joycons and purchase the warranty specifically for the joycons in case it happens to those 4. purchase the parts needed and fix/repair yourself 5. take to a console repair shop 6. (this option I recommend pairing with options 2-3) purchase a pro controller, name or off brand, and use that exclusively when at home and have your switch docked or not, those with Lites, sorry, this option may not be available for you, it's really hard finding controllers that actually work with the Lite. Basically, don't pull out the cartridge unless you've closed out the game and try to protect your joycons as much as possible.
Switch overall seems like a more expensive console than its competition when you factor in required external storage, controller figurations, first party games that don’t drop in price, etc
This logic makes perfect sense. Atari did the opposite with the Lynn games selling them online for cheaper. Retailers just stopped carrying them altogether sooner than they probably would otherwise. I used to find games in an Atari computer store about 20 mi away from me.
In Germany physical copies cost mostly less then the eshop versions because the eshop prices are allways 70€ for new AAA titles while many retailers sell the games for less from the start.
Originally the point was so the case stood tall with other console game cases. The cases are larger to prevent theft, but a 3DS case is large enough to do that. The main point was to both differentiate portable and home console games, and create a logical consistency with other consoles. The 3DS cases are smaller so they are easier to fit into a bag to be carried with the console itself. The problem is the switch is encroaching on that portability the 3DS had, so while smaller cases would be more logical, its likely they kept the tall cases to help push 3DS as being the portable console.
I like the feeling of being a new game, opening up the little folder thing and putting the game in, and see it being added to the game gallery. It’s more exciting then just buying in from the eshop, as there’s anticipation!
It’s weird... I see a game I want... then I’m like “oh, I’ll get it on the Eshop”... then all of a sudden I’m like “Wait no, I gotta get physical, physical is better” for some weird reason, unless the game doesn’t have a physical release, then I have to get its physical version. It’s weird... like there is some weird “Nintendo Charm” to the physical games. And the other weird part is I get anyone’s when I have to switch the cartridges in the system when I wanna play something else 😂
Here is what I love about the cartridges! I don't have to wait a hour for the game to download onto my console just to play it. I also don't have to use up a portion of my storage.
Mythrays1 Doom on Xbox one took over 24 hours to download. I’ve played it once for 20 minutes. Mad max was a decent game but glitched to hell and back, to the point I almost snapped the disc in rage mode. These corporations ms and Sony control our gaming habits/addictions and it becomes tiring on an 80s 90s gamer... Back to my trusty 64...virtual 🎱
I've had a few PS4 games that ran out the box (if it installed anything it was while I was playing it, likely). Also considering how little built in storage the Switch has, might as well stick to physical cartridges and use the internal storage for saves.
JimiJop Woodstock get off of wifi and it won't take 24 hours. Hardwire it port forwarding and don't be cheap and get decent internet speeds. Nothing takes 24 hours to download.
Companies are getting too lazy. You buy the physical copy, but end up downloading the rest of the game anyway. It devalues physical copies. Kingdom Hearts could totally get a switch port, but they won't use proper compression methods.
The idea that nintendo sells games for the same price on eShop as they are sold in stores is not an exclusive Nintendo policy. Many companies do this. It's a matter of not undercutting your retailers so that they will continue to do business with you. It's the same reason that buying your shoes directly from Nike costs the same as the store, despite not having to pay for the retailer's markup.
Digital is cheap and can get you great deals but owning the physical copy is better, plus sides are collection and being the physical copy. Downsides of digital, being banned and losing everything.
I stoped getting digital copies since I was banned for a week on XBL, the reason? I was charged 3 times for a single game so I asked my credit card company a refund, at least for the 2 wrong charges, then Microsoft took it as I was "trying to break xbox live rules by buying and asking refunds", since then I buy only physical copies cause I don't want to be banned for something stupid like this and lose all my games.

I call BS. A nand flash is a nand flash. Its just sticking the same components on a diff pcb. I doubt carts are much more expensive than normal sd cards to produce. A 16gb usb stick maybe costs 5 to 8 dollars to manufacture. So yes it makes sense that a cart costs a little more.
I prefer cartridges. I also prefer physical copies over digital. It scares me to think for things to go completely digital. Like what if the online store decides not to support it anymore or not sell a game. How can I backup my game if the console goes to crap. What if they loose my purchases and I have to pay for it again? Anyways cartridges are fine. Plus I think it’s neat I can also purchase blank ones to put other games on
The biggest boon for digital on Switch is for those who do speedruns: Digital loads at minimum 5 seconds faster where carts load slower. That means that if you're trying to break a WR that someone did in digital with a cart, you're likely not going to be able to unless there are more than 5 seconds that can be shaved off that time. Not a HUGE issue right now, but it basically gives free 5-10 seconds over the span of a game (more for BotW) for free simply by shorter load screens
Yeah switch games are more expensive, but it's a two way street. A game that's been out a few months will be a lot more expensive than buying it on ps4 or xbone, but they also hold their value much better for trades and such.
Exactly, you can usually sell the games for near the same price you paid for them minus shipping and fees, I love that Nintendo titles don't depreciate, you can even make money when they are no longer being made, that is until Nintendo sells them as classics for 20 bucks eventually. You buy a PS4 or Xbox game it depreciates immediately unless it becomes a cult classic.
I have a serious question. Dear Switch owners, can you slide out both joy cons with each hand on each joy cons with so much ease? I can't. I need to hold onto my switch to pull one joy con out successfully. It does come out with ease. But when I try to pull out the joy cons like they do in the main commercial, I end up lifting up my Switch too. I hope I'm making sense. haha.
@UnearthlyMouse3 That's not what he's talking about. He obviously knew that or else he couldn't get them off at all. He's saying he can't take them off with one hand like in the commercials.
I prefer cards/cartridges rather than discs. Way cooler, smaller, harder to break and overall more reliable. Besides, this kind of "solid" media storage brings memories of Gameboy days. All my old cartridges work like a charm, even today, after 30 years. My discs on the other hand....not so much. They're prone to self-destruct even with the utmost care. I remember how pissed off i was the day when Gamecube went out, and i've learnt that it has disc instead of cartridges. And probably, at the time (although i don't believe it) it wasn't a solution for bigger storage on that type of media. Nowadays is totally possible to place a game on cards/cartridges. That's a good thing, and kudos to Nintendo making this possible once again. And I almost forgot....the day when all the gaming industry will shift gears towards digital distribution only, is the day when they'll lose me as a customer. I refuse to support that.
Physical copies is much better than depending on the internet to get a digital copy. Look what is happing to the Wii Shop, they closed it, now people can’t download games on their Wii. Digital is not the future. I want to be able to still buy a game I missed out on in the future, instead of being said no because they closed the e shop.
Already been hacked, piracy is mainly going to be slowed down by the intended market - people without grownup consoles, computers, or smartphones. Kids. They'd probably rather buy games than buy hacky things like RPi boards and dev tools. They'd probably be embarrassed by ghetto wires dangling out of the cartridge socket.
@@Ghorda9 Depends on the flash, depends on how it's being used. These would be almost entirely read-only anyhow, very little writable flash needed for save data.
uuuh, they already do. There's an SD port for downloads. and you can pull the game data off to archive if you want (although it can only be played on the switch it was downloaded on). I tend to buy the big AAA titles on cartridge, to save internal storage space.
But I bought Mario + Rabbids for £13 , Yokus Island for £7 & Mario Odyssey for £33 from the eShop - The physical copies would have been £30/£16/£50(ish) 🤔🤔
@@spikeygray yeah but halfway, it also mentioned a policy that they cannot have cheaper eShop prices because it would affect sales on Amazon and other retailers..
Nintendo could've kept the same cartridge design as the DS or 3DS, or just started using the shape of normal SD card, which would've saved *everyone* money, and it would've been convenient, but no... Nooooo, Nintendo can't do that, because they'd rather shoot *everyone* and themselves in the foot if there's a mere possibility that someone could possibly pirate a game, rather than focusing on quality and convenience. It's *easy* to download or stream music for free, but people still buy music or pay for streaming services because of quality and convenience. I pay for Spotify because it's convenient. The moment these services are no longer convenient enough, I'll stop paying for them. Nintendo is making EVERYTHING inconvenient for EVERYONE, and it's just getting worse and *worse* every year.
Phatzoot the machines and new software needed to make them is expensive a ton of people make sd cards and cd games you could code the exiting machines to make it but it’s different meaning you need to build all new machines you have to pay people to design, build, gather the materials run the machine lots of things involved and very expensive to make a plastic chip
MAJJASTAK I don’t get why people care it’s a 60$ game that’s like every game that comes out on consoles (Xbox ps4) y’all wanted a home console, your gonna have to pay home console game prices
A cartridge will last a hell of a long time longer than a flimsy ass disc. Look at PS1, PS2, gamecube games already experiencing severe decay, and a lot not even working anymore.
With required downloads like L.A. Noire, even with cartridges they will not last as a N64 cartridge, being completely reliant on the server availability which will not last forever. Nintendo games and indie titles are mostly playable right away without required downloads (because they are small), but many third party publishers opt to use a small cartridge than the game needs because is cheaper to save on the manufacturing process. Yes, the physical object will last longer, but without the data that makes the game "a game", it is just plastic.
And doesn't experience data rot at the same pace, either. My Dreamcast collection has maybe another ten years left to it, and the original disks will no longer be usable. I literally have to modify my console to take SD cards, so the entire library will still exist, though only in backup form.
@@redenginner What? Digital games are downloaded to the system. How would a server shutdown affect this? Plus, by the time the servers are shut down the console will be outdated and will have already been replaced.
According to management that I’ve talked to at Best Buy and Gamestop the same deal applies to them about digital being the same as physical, unless it’s a limited sale.
@@jrelvas4676 the servers are there. Nintendo have already killed Wii shop, and soon everything from there will be physical so they can make more money.
If they're overpriced, why have Nintendo consoles traditionally been cheaper than the rest. Who the hell is calling the Switch's shortcomings features? I've only heard people say that the fact it's not in 4K, and doesn't have as big of a processor as its competitors is a minor setback that they can live with for what they get. Also, what they get is pretty important, considering it plays current-gen, home console games on the go. That's pretty groundbreaking, and a pretty good reason to buy a Switch. Also, most PS4 and XBOne systems don't have 4K either, so the fact that in docked mode it plays at the same resolution as the other systems, and is still in HD 720p when in portable mode is pretty good. If you don't like how much a new game costs, just wait until there are a lot of used copies floating around, it'll get cheaper. Nintendo isn't the Apple of game consoles, because they actually innovate with their products, rather than rely on name recognition alone. That's what Sony seems to be doing, honestly, and not even to the extent of Apple at all.
Biggest gripe is that all these old indie games that are a few dollars on steam are around $15 on the eshop, even if they don't release on a cartridge. On top of that, the developers don't scale the text for handheld mode making them only playable on the dock.
The upside of all that is i can easily buy some singleplayer game on cartridge play through it , keep it if i want to, or resell it for almost full price, maybe losing 4-5€ while doing that. Some games you can even buy cheap and wait for times with less available and resell for full price (Octopath Traveller / Zelda etc... have price fluctuations sometimes). That allows me to play all games on switch almost like a demo if i dont like it i resell it, and buying used in the first place and then reselling can even turn to +-0 .
Buying a cartridge with in a year of it's release date means you can redeem Nintendo Gold points, which is Nintendo's version of reward points. One point is worth one cent, and after a while you could rack up some serious amounts of money in Nintendo Gold points.
What are your thoughts on the Nintendo Switch cartridges? Would you rather see Nintendo games on discs again?

Even if digital prices were lower, a lot of people would still buy the physical game for collection or simply for not having to download it.
Physical will always be better, when you buy a physical game, you own the product, a digital purchase is no more a license to play it which can be revoked at any time with no prior notice.

@@saysoun752 thing is the price is still 60 or 40 dollars for a game for where I live so I never noticed.
Thank you for letting me know though
The reason Switch games are so expensive is due to a lack of competition within the system's own library.
This is probably his source: www.eurogamer.net/articles/2017-03-10-why-nintendo-switch-games-are-ending-up-more-expensive
They're _not_ mask ROMs. The manufacturer doesn't make mask ROMs bigger than 128 mb. They have a technology called "XtraROM" which is probably something like a write-once PROM. The company claims a lifespan of 20 years at 85 degrees C, while mask ROMs would last essentially forever.
>xbox couldnt play DVDs in 2001
>switch cant play DVDs in 2019
Yup, seems like Nintendo
The uploader didn't think about the fact that the new cards are new almost solely to avoid people from making SD card rom kits like they do for the 3DS for example. Nintendo wants it to be a lot of work and inconvenient to get every game for free. That's most of the whole argument, and shorter than this lazy video. Think Nintendo Gamecube. Tiny disc, spins backwards, avoided losing a billion dollars to CD burners which killed the Sega Dreamcast.
It’s like Nintendo DS. Those cartridges are great so better than a disc.
Apart from when games don't fit on them.

Seriously!! And a 3ds game is a little bit bigger and it’s in a smaller case
psychology is the reason is my guess.

When you're also buying a PS4 game physical with a day 1 patch of 40Gb you know it's the Devs who have the issue
Most likely has to do with them pumping out the game onto disc so it's at retail locations on time. 40Gb is a bit crazy though.

Zero Kill
Bit rot is a kind of degradation of data, which is a problem on disc based mediums.

@Nafis Zaman supply-demand my friend. The old and good supply and demand...

And buying on the eShop, on the other hand, provides you 5% back off of your purchase to spend on the eShop itself. Which is kind of a way of making the games cheaper at the end of the day.
It's also "kind of a way" of forcing you to keep shopping there. "Well, I could go to Gamestop, but I've got $4.32 on the eShop that I'll never get back."

@Vice TOLUCT HOOOOOWWWWW
It's a policy I think, to protect physical store from going bankrupt because of digital games.
I don't care. I only care *licking the cardtridge*
That's why you get physical. You can trade it in once the flavor wears out.
I've never noticed switch games being more here in Canada. As for discs they're dying media. Cartridges read faster and last longer than disc as even if you look after them really well you've got good odds your disc will suffer disc rot.
What game is that on 1:19
I doubt the high price of the Switch cartridges is due to its proprietary nature. Nintendo certainly uses standard Flash chips in their cartridges. The only proprietary thing is probably the shell. So the high price is due to the fact that Flash storage is expensive. SD cards wouldn't change anything about that.
Is this true?: What happens when i exit and i close directly? Does it corrupt
as long as you don't pull the game out while you're playing or the game is active, you'll be fine. You only really have a few options when that happens:
1. send it in to Nintendo and be out of a Switch/joycon(s) for a while until they repair and mail back
2. purchase at GameStop and purchase the warranty and exchange for a fresh new console
3. trade in the joycons at GameStop and use the money towards a new set of joycons and purchase the warranty specifically for the joycons in case it happens to those
4. purchase the parts needed and fix/repair yourself
5. take to a console repair shop

It's so funny how big the packages are for these tiny cartridges. Not sure why they didnt go with the same size box as the 3ds.
Maybe cuz if the package was smaller, then it would get stolen easier, I guess it has security purposes
Might have been to better differentiate the 2 consoles and what games belong to each
Originally the point was so the case stood tall with other console game cases.

You can recall in the future. Which is decent. I tend to buy more digital though.

Pepe Le Kek gonna play them regardless
I hope I'm making sense. haha.
I agree but putting them back in I can do easily
Just use your thumbs to hold the switch down but not too hard
@UnearthlyMouse3 That's not what he's talking about. He obviously knew that or else he couldn't get them off at all. He's saying he can't take them off with one hand like in the commercials.
I hate Joy cons worst ever
Yeah I place my thumbs on the top of the switch and slide them both out at the same time (the right faster then left due to dominance) lol
Is this the genderless child from If Undertale was realistic?
Slimy He is XD
He does sound like him
I prefer cards/cartridges rather than discs.
Yeah it should use normal flash cards, not like that's easily pirated or anything...
Already been hacked, piracy is mainly going to be slowed down by the intended market - people without grownup consoles, computers, or smartphones. Kids.
They'd probably rather buy games than buy hacky things like RPi boards and dev tools. They'd probably be embarrassed by ghetto wires dangling out of the cartridge socket.
flash memory is prone to corruption when used like this.
@@Ghorda9 Depends on the flash, depends on how it's being used. These would be almost entirely read-only anyhow, very little writable flash needed for save data.
flash cards are known for failing over time. Using these cartridges is the most reliable media format
uuuh, they already do. There's an SD port for downloads. and you can pull the game data off to archive if you want (although it can only be played on the switch it was downloaded on). I tend to buy the big AAA titles on cartridge, to save internal storage space.
But I bought Mario + Rabbids for £13 , Yokus Island for £7 & Mario Odyssey for £33 from the eShop - The physical copies would have been £30/£16/£50(ish) 🤔🤔
devilishmode
The video mentioned that cartridges are more expensive to make.
Plus it takes less storage than digital, so maybe that’s why.
@@spikeygray yeah but halfway, it also mentioned a policy that they cannot have cheaper eShop prices because it would affect sales on Amazon and other retailers..
devilishmode
Idk what is happening in the eshop globally, but in my region they are the same price (plus tax) on digital and physical copy.

There taste is disgusting!
I don’t like it
So I got to say I would rather eat the 3ds disks
Nintendo is making EVERYTHING inconvenient for EVERYONE, and it's just getting worse and *worse* every year.
fun fact: digital version of games are even more expensive in HongKong :(
I looooove my switch, by far, my favorite console, I would pay even more because how amazing it is!

I bet! Its just a chip in some plastic. It cant cost that much ur talkin absolute shit mate.

If you change your country to brasil, every game you bought will be half priced. Thank me later
They are kawaii
what dexter manning doing here? :P
He sound so bored haha
A cartridge made of high quality plastic is better than a CD that can break with little or no effort.
And doesn't experience data rot at the same pace, either. My Dreamcast collection has maybe another ten years left to it, and the original disks will no longer be usable. I literally have to modify my console to take SD cards, so the entire library will still exist, though only in backup form.
A digital game that is tied to your account and incapable of breaking is better than a cartridge that can be lost or damaged.
+waterb0lt Until the servers are shut down that is.
@@redenginner What? Digital games are downloaded to the system. How would a server shutdown affect this? Plus, by the time the servers are shut down the console will be outdated and will have already been replaced.
@@frumbolo tell that to my wii :/
If that's true why aren't the digital versions cheaper
According to management that I’ve talked to at Best Buy and Gamestop the same deal applies to them about digital being the same as physical, unless it’s a limited sale.
With cartridges, they don't take up so much space imo.
Keep in mind that digital games _could_ be $0.00 because you're just copying a file, you don't receive physical commodities.
Soviet Loli Right, because Nintendo employees work for free.
@@jrelvas4676 the servers are there. Nintendo have already killed Wii shop, and soon everything from there will be physical so they can make more money.
Dexter I love you
What's the game shown from 1:19 - 1:23?
What is the game called at 1:19?
Nintendo, the Apple of the game consoles.
Pretty much. Overpriced consoles and accesories whose shortcomings are called features by the most die hard fans
Can someone please tell me which is the game at 1:20
The upside of all that is i can easily buy some singleplayer game on cartridge play through it , keep it if i want to, or resell it for almost full price, maybe losing 4-5€ while doing that.
