Don't think they stock the canals. Be careful, if SRP See's you in the canal, they can trespass you.. Years ago, they would let you drag nets... The only thing they wanted from us were the grass carp. To return after filling.. I have caught, four kinds of bass, walleye, all three kinds of cats and most in-between.. Netting back in the 70's I even got attacked by a muskrat... (12 stitches) he didn't make it....... I caught a 24" stripe bass (on a small orange panther martin) by 7th st. N. of Northern in N. Phoenix... ( right after Nov. refilling)
Aww I'm so happy you throw them back. We Magnet Fish the canals in Arizona and clean up, so we are pulling out things that you would have got stuck on. Don't forget to tell people about the AMUR and that you aren't allowed to keep those. They are put in when they are already 2ft long.
I’ve been following you for a while and watch all of your videos and Porter’s videos too. Keep up all of your guy’s great content and your small business together. It’s just really sad to see all these good canals and other amazing fishing spots disappear right before our eyes. But I wish you nothing but the best and keep up the amazing videos 💯👊
@@TheFishinMagician20 of course! I’ve been fishing since I was 2 years old and have fished for just about everything here in Az except trout and that is my goal this year. You have helped out a lot with all of your instructional videos. I can’t wait to see what content you have coming up next 😁
I was out at my local stretch of canal in Mesa a week ago and found that it was that time of the year again when the SRP drains the canals for annual maintenance. I wish I would have known ahead of time. I could have ridden out there and possibly gotten back a few of my favorite lures that I lost by snagging them on the trash that folks will throw into the canals. I haven't been out there since and I'm not sure when the water will be flowing again.
@@TheFishinMagician20 Yea, when we were kids we'd beg our mom to take us to the river during these times of the year when they'd stop the flow on the Salt River. We knew that we'd be able to re-stock our meager tackle boxes with new fishing lures and hooks and occasionally a new fishing reel that had been lost in the river. We were just kids with no money to buy lures and our single mom didn't have the money to buy us fishing stuff but, gas was cheap back then and the drive to the river counted as a family outing.
Im fixing to head out to the south high line lateral to see if it’s got any fish tomorrow. Haven’t had a lick of luck in any of the community waters lately. Desert breeze and Kiwanis seem totally dead.
So they do this every winter and clean the canal put the actually net alot of the fish and move them to where im not sure but i do know they do this every year. Ive seen them pull 40+lb flats out. When they first drain it they walk a net along the sides super interesting to watch.
What fish in the canal will jump clear out of the water to eat a bug? One day I was eating lunch in my car at 32 street and Baseline. There is a bridge over the Western canal with a lot of spider webs or cob webs under the bridge. There was a large bug caught in one of the webs and he was trying to get loose. All of a sudden a big fish jumped clear out of the water and snagged that grasshopper of whatever bug it was!! I was amazed that I was right there at the right time eating my burrito and watching a fish eat his lunch too! What fish would do that?
They clean them every year.. They used to save some by netting them... Don't think they do any more.... On a good note.. they all come back when it's refilled....
i’m not tryna be a hater by any means at all. but please.. tighten your drag. use slightly thicker line if you’re worried about it breaking. it should not by any means at all take that long to real in a 1.5 pound bass
I used to get SRP irrigation. It's usually only a month, mid-December through mid January. Any more than that and farms south of valley don't have any water for crops. Cleaning and repair of canals during the cooler months.
Dude they did a whole story about it they netted most of the fish out and moved them and they're doing repairs. They got to do this kind of stuff all the time
They refilled the canal I live right by it hopefully they put back some healthy ones boys !
Hoping!

Thanks! Nah we don’t have them here in AZ
I rode my bike in the canal around crossroads park while it's been empty. I was looking for a fishing pole I lost when I fell in.

@@TheFishinMagician20 they was a school of flat head and channel in there they definitely don't get all the fish out

Third 😢im sorry i haven’t been on it lately lol
no worries your here!
Hey I live arizona city and we have a canal I think you should try
Sounds good shoot me a message
So the canals can be fish legally?
Srp canals yes
How long do these usually stay drained??
a few weeks maybe a month or 2
I used to get SRP irrigation. It's usually only a month, mid-December through mid January. Any more than that and farms south of valley don't have any water for crops. Cleaning and repair of canals during the cooler months.
The south side gets drained around thanksgiving. North side around new years. It’s a yearly occurrence
Now they can shut sections off and use pumps so some sections don’t get drained annually
to all the local fishermen... do you fish the ponds over the canal this time of year?? if so why??
Yes, canals really slow down this time of year, ponds stay full of trout
sorry for all the questions.. is it just a weather thing as to why??? or something else???
@@TheFishinMagician20
@@jryderaz6024 they cut the flows in the winter, and the canals fall about a foot. also combined with cold weather the fish slow down
I bet 25$ Porter swam that day

@@A10SHOTZ I just find it funny. This time of year ponds but spring and summer 100% canals
would you give up your favorite fishing😬 spot 🤫
is it to reduce sedimentation?
part of it yes. It is just to clean the bottom, replace concrete sometimes and unclogging drains mostly.
