  • Today we fish a desert bridge or bridges in search of big fish! We use some livebait as well as some worms to catch them, and had some massive success.
You never know what fish you’ll catch in the middle of the desert! Livebait is definitely the way to go!
These canals in the rural parts of AZ can be full of fish! Livebait season is just getting started!

Had something similar happen last weekend. Trout magnet under a bobber on 2 lb. fishing for bluegill. Bobber went down, reeled down & pulled...what was on the other end started taking line. 😳
Not what I was expecting. Took a few minutes of coaxing & pulled in about a 3 lb. carp.
    Good times. 👍

If you are worried about throwing your bait off hook it between the dorsal fin and spine twords the front of the dorsal fin . Wont kill the fish and the bones and cartilage from the dorsal fin give it alot more strength to keep your hook from ripping through the meat . I hook them like that when bank fishing so i can really get a good cast .

I used to fish those canals when I lived down there. I'll let you in on a little secret, I was a foreman for pulte homes and my brother was one for KB and while we were building anthem, tons of large mouth bass, channel/blue/flathead cats, and of course a couple different bait fish species bg etc all got stocked😂. The key is knowing what lakes hold which. The upper lake/ponds by the train station have some of the biggest bass I've seen. The very lower pond is where the catfish live and is the deepest. I used to go to a little fishing store and would buy waterdogs and let me tell you, the biggest bass and catfish I've ever caught have been on waterdogs in pleasant and horseshoe lakes. Also, on the salt river, where everyone floats, the bass are used to being fed marshmallows and all you have to do is just let it float. Lots of good fishing in AZ, almost better than here, almost.

On the river was bass only on the marshmallows but makes for really fun top water fishing 👍

Where else can a fish hide from the heat of the day but in either deep water, or shade (cover)? Weather will concentrate animals under shelter, even on land. Experienced this during a storm in Colorado. I see very little cover...work what there is. You should try casting a rubber worm across from one side and have it 'crawl' into the water (like a small snake) and swim.

Hook thise gills right infront of back fin above the line that goes across the middle so you don't hit gut area...remember all fish eat bkuegills head first and hooking them that far back is why the flathead came off.

Because if he gives the location away, a bunch of his viewers will show up and ruin the spot. This spot is secluded and hard find making it special. Do your own research on google maps and find spots to fish.

The easiest way to keep nightcrawlers alive and big is to just keep them in a small cooler with a little cold water, ice and in very hot conditions, add a blue ice pack

The fact that a flathead that size can eat a bluegill that big sort of blows my mind. As an inexperienced fisherman, I would have NEVER thought you could fish with bait fish that large and catch a fish that small (no offense?) on it.

Appreciate the reply man. I’m just getting back into fishing at 33 with my 4 year old son. When I was a kid, DAMN, I had every library book about fishing. Loved it. Parents would never take me. Well guess what?! I’m a grownup now and I can take myself lol. I’m going to willow springs this coming Tuesday. Hoping it isn’t drained from memorial weekend fishers. Any pointers? I’ll be using worms and power bait I’m sure. Would LOVE to catch something for my boy. The only other time I took him fishing was in big lake near pinetop. We skunked.
