I feel badly she had to suffer through those issues, it must have been terrifying. I think the laughs came because of her nonchalant way of describing the serious experience. She's a trooper.
I totally agree. If you watch her Netflix documentary that was filmed when she was going through a whole other set of heath issues and losses in her life she talks about how comedy was something she had to utilize to make it through. She really is an immensely strong person who can miraculously find some pretty funny moments amongst some pretty dark stuff. Love her and her comedy!

Agreed. It's how her standup goes as well. Invoking the laughter is deliberate, which she can further employ to garner more laughs when she makes the audience realize she just made them laugh at horrible news. I would imagine it's very cathartic, and probably the best way to handle going through what's she's gone through and retain a healthy state of mind.

I think Tig is something of a comedian's comedian. Her style might be a bit too low-key for a Tonight Show audience, but you can tell Jimmy really finds her funny - it's all in the silent laugh!

Tig knows the way she delivers her stories will make people laugh. The back in forth between terrible news, laughing, and deadpan looks is literally her signature move. She did an entire stand up set about her breast cancer-she’s trying to make us laugh-she’s very open about how comedy has helped her through her health complications and cancer. Even the awkward pauses are incredibly intentional.

I thought it was a bit out of place on that show, but her sort of match-making scenes in the galley and medical were great, and made up for the rest.

I’m fortunate that most people can tell I’m well beyond the fist-bump generation, but with the one person who felt compelled I just looked at his fist (because of course it was a guy) until he put it down.

When I woke up from surgery I was looking at my IV machine and hallucinated that it was a slot machine. I was like, "Damn, this thing just isn't paying out!" Then I realized I was hallucinating and started laughing at myself. The attendant nurse was, of course, somewhat concerned.

My husband had a spinal fusion last year and my God I was shocked what he went through so poor Tig has my sympathies. It’s such a major operation and the recovery is really a longtime. I can’t imagine what she went through it’s amazing she’s sat in that chair and she was probably in pain during the interview.
