At some point Hollywood and big game devs have to realize that they are catering to the wrong crowd. A crowd that aren't even consumers of their products. Alienating the consumer base that put them in the position they are in is a really bad move. Anyway, i feel like i'm constantly repeating myself lol
You me and many other people are in the same boat. One of the million dollar question is "Who are they selling this to if gamers aren't playing it?" If not already, this will soon be the Bud Light Effect
Why does it upset you, though? I really don't get it. Who gives af if the main character's identity doesn't neatly slot into some predefined category? People criticize the "woke" crowd for being overly sensitive, but then whine as loud as they can over something so petty.
@@TurdF3rguson It goes a little deeper than that. It's upsetting to see, as the meme goes, all your favorite franchises go down in flames, sacrificed to the Gods of "the message" and sold to a customer base that don't even consume said product.
If the consumer cannot relate to the character or game in any way, why play it if you cannot enjoy it? Especially if you are going to pay $70 USD on it, a lot more in other countries. You may not care about the character, lore and theme of certain games but many others do. There's no game that will please everyone so the best thing to do is atleast please the majority. Thats how we get successful and well received games
@@A1phaChino I disagree with that premise entirely. The point of having characters is to serve the story, and tons of great stories in games, shows and movies have characters that most people wouldn't identify with or relate to. They don't need to be relatable or even likable, just interesting. How many people really "relate" to Kratos? Or Peter Parker or Miles Morales? And not getting hung up on exactly how they look or present themselves isn't the same as not caring about the story. I love story driven games. I just don't get all bent out of shape if they don't look like me. Troy Baker was excellent as Joel from The Last of Us. Pedro Pascal was also excellent in the show. I don't start whining about him being Hispanic because I'm white and "don't relate."
Great video, man!! Leaving this so the algorithm will push it out farther (dont listen to those saying to "rethink your content and be better," they arent your audience, they're tourists)
I appreciate it. Nowadays society is afraid of having their own opinion because if it doesn't align with theirs, you're in the wrong. Look at gaming media outlets hating on RUclipsrs
So they admitted that the game was going to get a lot of "hate" (backlash) yet they made the game anyway, knowing that the fans would not like it. This feels like a middle finger to fans, all just to push their woke ideology that the majority does NOT want.
Imma play the other face of the coin here. IF this game has intensive gameplay mechanics and a very compelling story that this gets drowned out, then they might make it, but the past with the Game Director attacking people, it doesn't look like it.
Also, the reason for all the product placement is because this is set in the vision of the 1980's, where product placement wasn't just rampant. It was EVERYWHERE. So what I'm saying is, they have a very good reason for every decision made. It's not a silly tryhard moment in any way whatsoever. They know what they're doing.
Here's a question, why would a studio known for a great game like The Last of Us, shut off the comments if nothing is wrong with it? Game good or bad, in the past have their comments on so people can see and decide if they want to purchase the game or not. It's like posting a game on Steam and disabling the reviews so you can't see the comments or the rating. That right there makes it very suspect. You said something along the lines of someone coming to your house hating on you and you don't know why, that I have to disagree with because you had an idea from the jump about something a game like this. Let's use your analogy, living in a house and you randomly get hate from people. The people know the history of the neighborhood and the owner of the neighborhood and you still chose to live there, yeah you're gonna hear about it. Yeah it's a new IP, yeah we haven't seen gameplay which I soley believe that the industry should do on the first trailer instead of all cinematics but if you don't have anything compelling to the consumer, people are going to talk about it. I'm all about giving games a chance. Beginning of the year I praised Skull & Bones and now look at it. I would be happy if Naughty Dog proves us wrong, I'll take that L as long as it makes gamers happy and helps the industry because right now, the industry is about half assed games for money instead of fun
Just FYI.. Naughty Dog is making this game as the first game they ever made where the outcome or sales does not matter. They're making this story because they love what they do, and they're good at it. There are already tons of intricacies just in the information they've given out. They're not pushing any narrative or political agenda. And if there's one thing we know, ND doesn't make bad games. They have never disappointed imo. Which is also vouched for by the quality of their games. I bet this game will be another amazing story I can't wait to be a part of. I also have to admit, I didn't properly watch your video. I'm just real tired of people shitting on stuff they have not done either proper research on, or have any clue about. I think just the fact that they're making this game, not for sales, but for art, speaks for itself. They're finally big enough that they can afford not to care how the business side goes. As a gamer, this should speak to you aswell. Also, Niel Druckmann helped a lot with the Norse God of War + Ragnarok. I can't wait to see what the combat is gonna be like.
Based off of your first statement, if Naughty Dog and is making a game where the outcome and sales do not matter, why are the comments disabled and why are they blocking people that give genuine feedback about the game? Even if someone asks about the design like why did they go with a person like Jordan and not someone else. That right there is already alarming to many people. Also sales do matter especially if they were given multiple millions of dollars from investors as a budget to develop, produce and market the game. They need to make a profit or at least break even or investor (Sony Interactive Entertainment) and layoffs begin to happen or worse the studio gets dropped. Look at Firewalk Studios with Concord. Its not like no one will play it but the numbers might not be what they aimed for. Everyone has their own opinion and entitled to it. The issue with games right now in the industry is that companies are making games telling players what to like instead of hearing out their consumer base, when it doesn't go the company's way, then they lash out on the consumers. Again like I told someone else, I want them to prove me wrong about all of this and be a successful game for the public and not just cater to a small group and leave the rest alienated. *Update* The actress is attacking gamers about the trailer. Thanks for your input
@ They're making art, not a game. Point is, ND is big enough to not have to rely on investments for this game. No one is expecting a huge pay day, or need it. They're big enough that they can pay for it themselves. Also, they've gotten a ton of sponsorships which was suuuper practical, because they were planning on using all this product placement without any sponsor. So I'm assuming that's where all the money comes from. Also, would an artist ask its fans for input on his painting? No. If someone came up to me when I'm making my music (not released yet) and told me it was shit, when they didn't even have all the information, I would shut that down in a heartbeat too. Without the information, you cannot be constructive. And you're completely right, there is so much wrong with the industry right now, but I promise you that ND is not part of it. They just want to make a project they poured their hearts into which, according to Niel Druckmann, is achieving his dream. No other industry has ever had as much freedom as ND. Sony has for the most part given ND complete control of their products, because they truly trust in them. The only thing they did with TLOU, was making sure Ellie and Joel was holding guns on the cover/poster, when ND wanted something less mainstream.
@@thecasualhawk So if it's not a game, why was it showcased at The Game Awards and Geoff Keighley announcing it as Naughty Dog's New Game? Making a game a type of art just like cooking and drawing but in the end its still a game. If they do not need to rely on investments, why don't they go independent and break away from Sony? Every game studio needs funding for Development costs, paying employees and marketing the game. Showcasing that trailer cost them money so them not needing money is ridiculous. Also if they do not need any sponsor then why dont they remove Porsche, Adidas and the Sony brand because they have to pay them as well. Your Artist and music part collapses on itself because one is asking for feedback and the other is someone just coming up and saying its crap. A good artist just like a good developer would like feedback on their work because that will make them better in the end. Why would you not want to improve? I will agree that every company pours their heart into a game which it should be but as a business you are serving the consumer, your audience so that they buy the game you as the studio can stay in business. Lastly, No other industry has more freedom? Might want to look at FromSoftware with Armored Core, Dark Souls and Elden Ring.

The "woke" crowd are supposed to be the overly sensitive ones, but y'all start crying at the drop of a hat when a character doesn't neatly slot into one of the usual masculine straight male or feminine straight male identities you're used to. I've never heard so many people whine so much about something so inconsequential lol. I agree the product placement is weird, though.
The reason why you don't hear anything about the "woke" crowd or modern audience because they don't play the game. Its the same when it comes to other things like the Bud Light Controversy. They don't consume the product and the company took a huge hit for it. In a business perspective you want your product to sell everywhere right? Doing the practices of what they are pushing in games, limits their sales because in some countries, its a violation and has to be changed or its restricted like the Middle East and Eastern countries as well. As a company I would want everyone to be able to play the game and make max profit, not limit to appease a small group and alienate the rest. If this game had character selection then cool. Not as many people would be mad but if they stick to one character that people cannot have some sort of relation to then there feels no sense to play the game which is what people are doing and saying. Thanks for your input
