Based on the first two comments alone, I clearly dropped the ball on explaining the saliva solutions aspect in this video. Please check out the No Tape Q&A video for that information.
~ IMPORTANT UPDATE ~ for those experiencing excessive saliva!
Because I no longer have a saliva issue, it's very hard for me to test what works best, so hearing from many using my mouthpiece recently I want to share what may very well be a better solution that what I've suggested in the Q&A. Since posting that video, I've gotten quite a bit of feedback from people who have been testing shortening the length of their mouthpiece, so it's further away from the glands at the back of their jaw... that it has been VERY successful in eliminating their saliva issues! I hope you'll give that a try before giving up on your mouthpiece and the amazing nights sleep it can provide. My best to you all, Lala
Thanks for your response! I will check out the other stuff, I don't want to give up because I'm so tired of the chin strap I've had to use. Anything will be better than that. I'll let you know how it works out for me.
I just wanted to thank you for all the work you put into this. It makes all the difference in keeping air from escaping through my mouth. I still use mouth tape in addition to your mouthpiece when using my CPAP (nasal mask) as I still get leaks with my jaw dropping which causes my cheeks to billow outward and blow air out past the mouthpiece - but when also taped, it stops the leaks - period. I use the Honest Goods silicone and I feel completely safe with it. You're quite the 'engineer' with your research and laborious diligence to put something together that works for a lot of us outliers. What a wonderful service of love you've given freely.
I'm so glad this is working out for you Ben! I really appreciate you taking the time to comment in detail, it helps me know what to discuss in future videos. I've been testing other kinds of silicone, that haven't worked out well and keep coming back to the Honest Goods brand, so I'm glad you were able to get them. The next video coming up is showing a new shape that helps with excessive saliva, in case you're experiencing that. I'm so dedicated to making this solution work for as many people as possible, so I hope you'll keep checking back for updates. Thank you so very much for your kind word. Lala
I take a bandaid under my bottom lip to protect not getting blisters
OMG!! I just tried this last night. It's a miracle!! So easy & it works!! I've tried every expensive device on the market & none of them worked well. THIS REALLY WORKS!! Thank you so much!! It didn't bother me at all during the night and it stayed in place (with no safety strap at all). Just clean & dry in the morning. Easy!! Making your own prototype is so easy - it's a no brainer. Completely stopped my snoring as well!!
Hi Donna, I'm thrilled that my mouth taping alternative has worked so well for you!!! I so appreciate your comment, since I know it's hard for people to believe something so simple can work so well. I'm with you on the need for a safety strap, but if it helps someone feel more comfortable trying it, it was worth the effort to come up with a way to add a strap. Comments like your make so glad I shared my idea❣️ Sleep well my friend, Lala
Great idea thanks. Has anyone tried this in the uk and if so what silicone bags did you use.?
I tried this silicone barrier and it worked. It took some trimming & adjusting but I’m pleased with the results…no mouth leaks.
Robvin, I'm so glad to hear this worked for you!!! It does take a little trial and error to get just the right fit, but I'm so glad you didn't give up! Hope you're sleeping well now, Lala
My mouth thing slipps down as my jaw relaxes.... Then gets caught on my lip. I started large and trimmed as you said. Any ideas to help? And bless you for this ..... I am so grateful.
My teeth are crooked, getting a seal is challenging. Thank you so much for all this information ❤️
If it's slipping down, it's not tall enough. I've tested so so many of these, at different sizes and it really comes down to the position of your jaw when you're asleep. It's pretty common for mouth breathers to actually have their mouth in a relaxed open position while falling asleep and then have a wide open mouth once they're actually asleep. You probably need to make you mouthpiece much taller than you think. Like to the point that it would be uncomfortable if your mouth was closed. So take your height measurement with you mouth open at least a little. Let me know if that works for you. Lala
Would LOVE a template!!!
In case you don't see my other reply... email me at Lala.Here@icloud.com and I'll include a temptable in my reply. Lala
I've made 2 mouth pieces now but they don't fit quite right as yet. But what I'm finding is that the safety sting tickles and irritates my lips, so I've been dragging the string to the corner of my mouth. Have you ever made the holes near the corner of your mouth, I was thinking that might help to keep the string off my lips.
Hi Christine, yes I have made a safety strap that was attached on the side, right behind my canine tooth, so the string came from the corner of my mouth. If I wear one with a safety strap, that's the one I reach for, although I really don't use one with a strap much. Lala
Thank you so much for responding. I'm going to make the next one that way to see if it feels better. I have also purchased the "anti choking" tool but it hasn't arrived yet. When I get that I'm going to try one that doesn't have the safety strap. I'm determined to get this right because taping is making my lips sore. But anything is better than the chin strap. So I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks again. @@lalahere
I thought the strap would be annoying. The reason I don't like using tape is because it feels terrible on my lips. I wouldn't bother with the safety strap since it would also touch my lips.
You really don't even need the safety strap. Just cut your prototype to fit your mouth. It stays in place perfectly. Just follow her directions.@@lalahere
Great video thank you for all your hard work ❤
I appreciate your kind words so much Tammy❣ Lala
OMG I was taping my mouth closed until my lips got so sore I couldn't do it anymore. I started taping because I wear a CPAP and struggle with the typical chin strap. The tape freed me from that but I had to return to it after my lips got sore. I can't wait to try your idea and I certainly will let you know how it goes for me. I'm excited because I too have insomnia and it's a real bummer to say the least. Thanks for your idea!
Hi Christine, so glad you came across my channel and I'm anxious to hear if my solution works for you. I hope you'll subscribe and select to be notified of new videos, so you'll know when I post my "Insomniac to Super Sleeper" video. I've come up with a great solution for training yourself to sleep on your back and how to sleep if you have neck pain. Neck pain use to keep me from getting a good nights sleep, but no more. Best of sleep to you Christine, Lala
Yesterday I went out to find those silicone bags. I couldn't find any of the brands you reccomended but I got what they had. It seemed pretty thick but I went ahead and cut it out. Mind seemed too big but as I trimmed it down I got a small gap on the bottom. It fit better but not sure it will work now, also I had a lot of siliva so I poked 2 small holes in it. I tried wearing it for a while but it's so thick and the cut edge is rough. Guess I'd better try again. Thanks for your reply to my last text. 🙂@@lalahere
Sounds like you might have gotten the Stasher bag. I think your best bet would be getting the Porter bag off Amazon. The silicone is soft, even after you trim it down. Also, if you're having excessive saliva, I'm suggesting people try not going all the way to your back teeth. That seems to work even better than adding the hole. I think I need to do another update, to give people another option to reduce saliva. Here's a link to the Porter bag: amzn.to/3N3pFp4
Thank you so much for responding to my message. I will try the new bag from Amazon. I'm not giving up, I want to try everything to get away from using the chin strap. Thanks so much!

Dear Ms SS (smart & safety conscious), you need to be in the TV Show SHARK 🦈 TANK👍😆🤣
Best comment EVER, thanks Ron❣
I actually came up with a design that could be fabricated with an integrated safety strap, did all my technical drawings and everything. But sharing even this DIY version means I can't get a patent on it. Bet a company who makes mouth tape will come along and steal my design.
I'm working on another video right now, because I left out some important stuff. I hope you'll check back for it! Thanks so much for your great comment, Lala
@@lalahereHave you used a oxygen sensor on your finger or a google watch to see if your oxygen is better using this at night or improves? Most people the reason they feel better on a CPAP is it increases their oxygen at night or don’t let it drop from snoring or not breathing properly. Breathing through the nose normally increases oxygen and nitric oxide. It would be good to see if mouth taping or your invention does this. I would guess it does the reason for the positive effects. This should be patented and marketed.
You're exactly right about nitric oxide! I haven't actually tested my levels, but I do know, it's created in the sinuses and enter your body when you breathe in through your nose. So breathing through your mouth would deprives you of nasal nitric oxide.
I actually looked into getting a patent on a fabricated version, with the safety strap integrated into the mouthpiece, but since I made it public domain by sharing it here on RUclips, it can't be patented now. But that's ok, it's so easy to make and maybe more people will benefit from it if they can easily make one themselves. I sure hope it works for you, Lala
@lalahere if you sell these I would love to buy some from you. You should try going to shark tank and pitching this! ❤
I can't patent my idea because I've already shared it here, but if I ever make these, I'll be sure to let you know. Thanks so much for the props Beatrisea! Lala
I just ordered my bag off Amazon and will be trying it out tomorrow.I read that mouth taping increases your oxygen saturation by 15%.Hopefully this will work for my sleep apnea. My oxygen levels dip to 89% sometimes and if this gets me back into the mid 90's I will not do the CPAP machine.
Oh my gosh, I would be so thrilled if my solution helped you to not need CPAP!!!! Please let me know how it goes! Lala
Glad I found you,I’m going to try this tonight
Hi Desiree, glad you came across my channel and really hope this works for you! I'm working on two new videos right now, the first one is about a new shape for the mouthpiece, so I hope you'll check back for it. Lala

Thanks for the video, will definitely try this. Allergic to tape and this looks like a perfect solution 😊..
Hi Stephanie, I hope my mouth taping alternative works as great for you as it does for me! I wasn't Allergic to the tape but it bothered me enough that it just wasn't going to work for me. I hope you'll pop back in and let me know what you think. Oh and I have two more videos in the works, #6 & #7 in this series, #6 is about a new shape that I think you'll find even more comfortable, so check back for those too! Sleep Well, Breath Well, Lala

Genius??? I do believe that qualifies you as my new best friend Linda❣️ I'm filming two new videos right now on an option for Medical Grade Silicone and what I like about silicone with a matte finish. The second video is on a new shape, that will help people who find themselves having excessive saliva. As for the templates, it's turning out to not be a good idea to use premade templates, since everyone mouth is so different. You'd likely end up wasting a lot of silicone if you don't use your own specific measurements. I show you how to get your starting measurements in this video: ruclips.net/video/70Sku8E6ccU/видео.html
I hope you'll check back for the new videos and thank you for your kind words. Warm Regards, Lala
You don't need a template. It's so easy just to make your own. Just follow her directions.
Where can I find your templates?
Hi Sherri, you can email me at Lala.here@icloud.com and I'll reply with a template for you. Lala
Hi Lala, thank you so much for posting this series of videos to give us an alternative to mouth taping. You have spent so much time and effort to give us the best material choices and detailed step-by-step instruction on how to make it. Such valuable info!
BTW, the Honest Goods silicon bags are no longer available on Amazon. Do you have any other good choices?
So glad to hear you're checking out the whole series! It's been hard responded to people who watch one video and then have questions that are address in other videos in the series. Although I do appreciate any question or comment.
As for the silicone bags. I have links in the description to three other places where you can purchase the Honest Goods Bags, Walmart, Sam's Club and eBay. I've purchased from all three, just to make sure they're exactly the same. I keep purchasing other brands and types of silicone, including medical grade, trying to find something better or even as good as the Honest Goods bags, but have yet to find a single one. I've found a few source that sell silicone in sheet form (single sheets), but all so far have not made it through my testing. So the search goes on. I'll be pretty excited when I find a good source for quality silicone, so you can bet there will be a new video posted when I do! Thanks so much for your kind words, Lala
Thank you for the reply. I'll check out the other 2 places. Meanwhile, for your relentless pursuit of perfection, I officially crown you the "Queen of Mouth Untaping" 😁😁😁
@@leondan3629 gosh thanks❣ I will gladly accept that title 🥰 Thank you so much for your kind words, Lala
Thank you. though you did not demonstrate the new versions. Is punching holes all that us needed for the saliva issue? Not sure how the addition of the safety strap is done logistically.
Oh shoot... good point!!! I think I do need to do a Q&A video! Yes the holes made for the safety strap is what solves the salivation issue. But the hole should be really small. So even without adding a safety strap, 1mm hole will keep you from over salivating. The further away from where your mouth opens, the less air will get in. As I'm writing and explaining this, I'm realizing how much demonstrating it was so important. Thank you so much for bringing this to my attention!!! Lala
Thanks Lala. I just finished making my mouth piece and it works amazing, but definitely a lot of saliva. I watched this vid a few times, I’m not really interested in the safety strap, but still unclear how this helps with the excess saliva. So two small holes at the front will stop excess saliva? Do you think it’s possible to use a small drill bit instead of ordering the 1mm hole punch?
@@KMANBIG1 I'm so glad you ask this question, I really blew it not talking about how the hole work for excess saliva. So sorry about that, it's going to be the #1 topic in the Q&A video. As for making the hole, please don't use a drill, the hole needs to be a smooth edged hole to ensure it doesn't tare. I tried several ways of making the hole and that particular hole punched worked so well. I ruined so many mouth pieces in my testing, it'll be worth a few bucks to get it right and have holes that won't begin to tare. As for where to place the holes, I like them over my bottom teeth. The closer you get to the center, the more air you let in.
I'm going to use your comment in the Q&A. Thanks, Lala
Thanks Layla. No need to apologize, you are doing us all a great service! I’m looking forward to your Q&A video.
I used the mouth piece last night for the first time, I was drowning in drool after an hour and had to take it out. If we can fix the saliva issue, it will be a life changer!
@@KMANBIG1 So glad you're going to give it another try. I would love to hear that my solution was life changing for you like it was for me! Lala
Hi. I’m. Ew to the concept of mouth taping and haven’t tried anything yet. I imagine the force of the tape over the mouth and it’s adhesive keeps the mouth shut, which is the goal. But with your silicone piece, I’m unclear as to what force is keeping the mouth shut from the inside?? Does the silicone keep the inner mouth tissue from shifting and somehow “grips” the tissue shut in place?? I hope this question makes sense!
Hi, so this is really a totally difference concept than tape. The silicone barrier does not keep you from opening your mouth, it keeps you from being able to breath through your mouth by creating a slight suction that draws your tongue to the proper position, which actually is what keeps you from breathing through your mouth. You can even test this out yourself right now without the silicone. Put your tongue at the roof of your mouth and sallowing, to create the suction that will hold your tongue up. Notice how even if you open your mouth, as long as you keep your tongue at the roof, you can’t get a breath through your mouth. I think this needs to be my next video…. “Why My No Tape Taping Method Works!” Thank you for making me realize I hadn’t explained the concept well enough!!! Lala
@@lalahere Thank you for your response. Some have claimed that mouth taping changed the appearance of their lower face in a good way. It toned it. Do you have any thoughts on this? Lots of us have older jawlines, baby jowls, moon face, etc?
That’s a good question and I wish I had a more definitive answer for you, but I can say, in my own experience… I DO feel like sleeping with your mouth closed is better for your face, just as sleeping on your back is. I think anything you can do to keep your face in a relaxed position, not pulled, squished or wrinkled is what’s best while you sleep. I have a trick for sleeping on my back, that’s not only good for my face but also my neck. Video on that coming in the next month or so. But back to taping… because I had to use so much tape to get it to stay, I didn’t feel like it as good for my lips or the surrounding area. Also, I’ve heard from women who said they felt like the tape was pulling on their upper lip and drawing it down. That’s a bit worrisome since as we age the area above our lip lengthens and we’re already fighting nature there. Wish I could be more help, but I guess you can see through my videos how I’ve aged over the years since mouth taping. So far so good, I think anyway. Lala
I bought the W&P Porter Silicone Reusable Storage Bag. It has a slight odor and I can taste it in my mouth. I have washed it with Dawn Dish Soap and tried cleaning it with rubbing alcohol. No luck odor and taste is still there. Any suggestions on how to get the odor and taste to go away?
I've noticed that with many silicones I've tried, even medical grade, but never with the Porter or Honest Goods bags. Have you tried boiling it a few times? I boil any brand of silicone a few times before using it, and then once a week, just to kind of sterilize it.
I will try boiling the silicone. Thanks for the suggestion I hope it works. I originally bought a different brand THOBY on Amazon Reusable Food Storage Bags, 10 Pack BPA Free Bags which are made with Polyethylene Terephthalate / PEVA. It has no taste or smell which was great and is thinner than the W&P silicone. However it has no stretch to it and when I cut it to the shape you suggest was uncomfortable so I bought the W&P. The W&P while more comfortable I found the shape still to be a problem so I kept trimming it here and there and ended up with more of an arch on top and no notch at the top or bottom. This was very comfortable but the smell and taste was a no go. So I tried cutting down the THOBY to the new shape and it worked and felt comfortable. Everyone's mouth has its own unique shape so my advice is if you feel pain trim it down in that area till it is the right shape for you. I have had three wonder nights sleep with the THOBY and will continue to use it. In the meantime I will try boiling the W&P a few times. If that works I will be thrilled as it is always nice to have options. Thank you so much for making your videos. The safety strap really helped me to feel comfortable wearing your invention while sleeping knowing there would be no way I could accidentally swallow it.
Hi. Thanks for making this.
1. Can we use any kind of amazon food grade silicone storage bags? I see some that have PEVA mixed with silicone.
2. Have you thought about making something silicone related to help with teeth grinding?
Thanks, sorry if I asked this question before, but I think it got deleted.
Thanks so much for asking this question, since I don't believe I ever specifically discussed PEVAs. I would not recommend using any silicone bag that has PEVA, it's not as safe as 100% food grade silicone and has actually been found to be toxic to some living organisms. I've been wearing my mouth piece for years now, every night for 8 hours, sometimes longer, and I don't want to take the chance that any chemicals could be leaching from it. Of course you can take risks based on what you're comfortable with, but I would as that you PLEASE don't. A bag that isn't 100% pure food grade silicone might be cheaper, but really, you only need one bag and when you get the shape just right, that one mouth piece will last you for literally years. Other than the one my dog chewed up, ever single mouth piece I've made is still usable. If not for all my testing, and wanted to share my solution... I could still be using the very first one I made. I hope you'll reply back and let me know you took my advice, so I don't have to worry about you. 😉 p.s. love you name , Lala
Thanks.
Thank You 🙏💝🌻🙏
You're so welcome Thumblelina! (love that name 🥰) Lala
do you sell these?
I'm not currently selling these. The problem is I can't patent this since I've made my idea "public domain" by sharing it here on RUclips. It really is so easy to make, did you watch the tutorial video that came before the safety strap one? It only takes a couple of minutes to make and the safety strap isn't necessary for it to work. It's more for piece of mind. Lala
no worries. good on you for sharing your method for free. if only more ppl had that approach. you're a good communist. @@lalahere
Thank you for your kind words Ted❣ Lala
Do you think it’s safe to use the mouth piece AND mouth tape together? I use CPAP and trying to convert from full face mask to nasal, but still getting mouth leak even with mouth tape and chin strap. I think the mouth piece will be my salvation, if i can fix the saliva issue.
I'd be surprised if you need tape with this mouth piece. You really can't inhale with this in place, which is why it works so well. If you're wearing a chin strap, you might find making your mouth piece a little taller will allow you to relax your jaw and still have it work really well.
Are you planing on using the safety strap and still taping?
@@lalahere no I am not going to use a safety strap, but I did just order the 1mm hole punch as you instructed. Looking forward to your Q&A video with more info on how to fix the excess saliva.
What stops you from spitting it out half way through the night ?
Bill, I think you'd have to try it to realize how well it stays in your mouth. So far I've only hear of one person, a cpap user, who was able to, not spit it out but do what he called a "blow out." But even with that one "blow out" he said it was worked so well for him that he was still using it. It's so worth a great nights sleep even if you have doubts. Lala
@@lalahere Thanks for the response. I think you have made a great and cheap alternative to mouth taping. I bought a gadget for $50AU called Snore Guard that does the same thing and have been wondering how I might make a diy version, but yours is infinitely cheaper and probably more comfortable. WIll give it a try.
As well as sleep /apnea/snoring issues your mouthpiece could also be used during exercise sessions and during daily work to force nasal breathing instead of mouth breathing.
@@BillSteamshovel I think using it during exercise is a great idea Bill! I tried to look up the Snore Guard you mentioned, but don't see it. Is it bulky like a typical mouth guard? Lala
Can you please post some templates in different sizes?
Unfortunately, I've just been advises that, I'll be creating a liability for myself if I provide templates, even though there wasn't going to be a charge for the download. I'm sorry, I didn't realize that when I made the offer. Hopefully you'll find it easy enough to get a good fit for your mouthpiece. Also, something I'm just finding out about fitting your mouthpiece is, many people are having great success reducing excessive saliva by not making the sides go back very far. So if you have saliva issues, shorten the length of your mouthpiece. I'd love to hear how it works for you. Lala
Can I buy some from you 😂
Sometime I think I should manufacture these, but it's so easy to make, I'm not sure I could sell many. I did actually check into getting a patent but having shared my entire development along the way, I made it public domain and it can't be patented. 🤷🏻♀️ Kind of a bummer but at least people can see how easy it is to make.
