    I’ve been mouth taping for about a year or more. I’ve never slept better, I awake energized and ready! It also trains you to breathe this way 24/7. I’ve only ever used Scotch tape - never had an issue with chapped lips. People freak out when you tell them you tape your mouth shut at night! Lol 😂

      @@Michaelnolan1988 I tried it and I have still been able to breath and even slightly through my mouth, but it stops my mouth from coming open. I am ready to close it as up James has suggested so I don't breathe at all through my mouth.

    Mouth taping for sleep had changed by life immeasurably. No snoring, coughing, dry mouth, or morning fatigue. I feel FANTASTIC when I awaken.

    Wake up with no dry mouth, increased clear balanced flow through both nostrils, no morning hay fever, calmer, less chatter more listening because I consciously breathe through my nose during the day. All these changes and benefits within the first weeks. James Nestor is a bloody hero to take the journey he did and then to share it so clearly and compassionately. Thanks mate.

    I have been mouth taping for nearly 3 years. I will never go back. I ridiculed it, bashed it and ultimately it changed my life for the better. I will never go back. So grateful I came across this when I did my health was spiralling and this definitely pumped the breaks for me.

    I’m on Day 5 of mouth taping and I’ve never slept better. Each day I keep thinking it’s the placebo effect, but I wake up truly feeling refreshed! I’m sold. As a mouth breather for 49 years I never thought I would EVER do this. So glad I tried it out.

    For some months I've had a breathing issue, during the day, where I would involuntarily give a very big gasp for air, 6 or so times a day.
    As I sleep alone, I wondered if it was linked to sleep apnea.
    Before consulting a doctor, I thought I would read James' book, (recommend by a friend) and I started to tape up my mouth at night.
    Virtually immediately, the gasping has stopped.
    I've only been taping for a week but there is no sign of my previous problem!
    I'm grateful I didn't consult the doc 1st as they are so keen to prescribe drugs, and I'm fairly certain they wouldn't have advised me to tape my mouth closed.
    I'm very happy I've come across James Nestor. He may have saved my life. 😁
    P. S. I'm waking earlier and an less tired too.

    Just forcing myself to close my mouth and breath trough the nose, changed my life. Zero stress, zero histamine intolerance, and I hope no neurological problem in the long term.

    My wife, Ani is training to be a Conscious Connected Breathwork Facilitator and is a great fan of your work. She is even one of the founding members of your new membership. I'm learning a lot from what Ani teaches me, and although I help my clients address the metaphysical reasons for snoring and sleep apnea, I also recommend they tape their mouths shut at night, which will help to retrain their breathing habits.     Tried last night. Awoke almost 2 hours earlier than normal today but surprisingly didn't feel tired. Will definitely try again. Many thanks for the great info!

      Thats interesting, ive seen other people mention this, I think early hours of morning whatever stage of sleep we are in tends to cause some heavy breathing at that point, and if we have air hunger where normally our mouth would open and now cannot, no wonder it wakes us up, seen it with my own eyes with a friend. thats ok so its about practice, exercising with mouth closed more and taping at night and in theory you should start to adjust to the air hunger and your body doesnt need to wake you.

      It’s because when you mouth tape it allows you to go into rem sleep faster and longer allowing a better sleep (deep sleep which is where your body heals)

    I've been a mouth breather my whole life with very narrow airway passages and high mouth roof. I've also been diagnosed with complex sleep apnea, but haven't found good solutions. I was very skeptical of mouth taping, but I started mouth taping a few months ago, and it is amazing how better I am sleeping and not waking up with a dry mouth or having apnea gasping issues during the night. This has been a game changer for me! Now, you have to be able to breathe thru your nose, and I have always had congestion problems at night ever since I can remember. I use XClear nose spray, which is a very safe product for cleansing the nostrils before bed, and then sometimes I follow that with Azelastine and/or fluticasone nose spray that help with allergies. In emergencies, I will use Afrin for short periods of time (followed by fluticasone nose spray 30 minutes after Afrin to prevent rebound effect). I also use a room air cleaner that I believe has helped. Regardless, now for the first time in my life, I have been able to breathe thru my nose during the night. I'm excited for the future since I'm getting better sleep now.

      Your story was my husband’s
      .. till he discovered after years of suffering - that he was simply Magnesium deficient !
      He cured himself by taking Mg Threonate …. but u can take some other form.
      ie Epsom Salts (Mg Sulphate)
      Is good if you have chronic constipation..

    I tried this for the first time last night along with nasal breathing strips. I’m pretty sure I only slept like 6 hours (because my alarm), but I actually woke up feeling rested. Way more than usual. I also worked out at 8am, it’s 1:30pm now and i still feel wide awake and energized. I will definitely continue to do this.

      Same. Tried it last night and only slept 5 hours. Normally I feel like crap after 5 hours but my breathing was more effective so I guess I slept deeper. Didn't wake up that tired either.

    i have begun taping just the middle portion of my mouth with a small tape since two days...results are excelllent..so much so i have slight psychological issue and feeling so refreshed...Thanks James...

    Great explanation by James here, also the trick on how to remove it in a gentle way is so effective. Mouth taping is such an easy hack but it works incredibly well.

    I love how people think it's dangerous. If you're sleeping and someone blocks your nose you don't just stay asleep and slowly suffocate.

      @@MrJamesdryable yeah sure, but I can imagine myself rubbing it lose in my sleep and I've seen enough videos on youtube of people sleeping and eating whatever was near their mouth reflexively. Now that it is in my mouth and no longer blocks my breathing path I can inhale, sucking it farther down my throat where it irritates my throat and I begin to panic and choke in my sleep. Basically I'm afraid of being a a fuck up. Sure sounds unrealistic but I have seen people choke and panic on a fucking hair (they panic and somehow restric their throat by clenching up all the muscles there or I dont't know how). Its not that the thing itself is physically big enough to choke one, its that I fear that it can trigger the body to seize up and constrict the air flow even further. If I am asleep or dreaming then there is no way not to wake up paniced, choking and unable to act quickly and rational (or it seems unlikely to me). Then again I just woke up alive and the thing was still on despite being very small and flimsy.

      I am Epileptic. Taping my mouth could be fatal. I could choke on my vomit. Not being able to breathe via my mouth means I could choke when fitting also. It is dangerous for me

    Mouth taping and only breathing thru your nose 24/7/365 even when exercising will change your life and alter your destiny. It cured my sleep disorders and my arthritis. James Nestors book is life altering.

    I've been taping my mouth shut since 2006, and slowly I converged to the method the he described. It has changed the structure of my face. When I started I would have a couple of minutes that I calmly force the air through my nostrils, waiting for about 5, sometimes 10 minutes to be able to breath comfortably. Slowly my respiratory allergies gave away and now I have a crisis only if I get sick or with very nasty exposure. Now I feel my nose cycling through the nostrils each other day as the air flows and it even feels that whenever I tape my mouth some sort of reflex get me in "only nose" mode. Also it controls the snoring a lot, that most of my relatives suffer from.

    I'm a big fan of James Nestor. After reading "Deep" a few times through, when I saw his new book on the shelf I didn't think twice, just chucked it in my cart.
    I'm also a competitive and fitness swimmer. Unfortunately, pool swimming and nasal breathing don't get along well. Swimmers are forced to breath through their mouths or deal with snorting pool water into their noses. If you haven't experienced this...you need to swim more. It is uncomfortable/painful. However, between sets, I have been consciously nasal breathing (slowly, with control, as discussed in "Breath"), not allowing myself to pant and mouth breath between my sets. It has made a massive difference.
    James, if you see this, "Deep" was an amazing read. "Breath" is too. Thank you for bringing attention to such a necessary and overlooked/forgotten part of living.

    the first time that I've done was in 2006, i was 19 yo and never forget that I saw one brazilian doctor say that they did that for snoring treatament years before in TV. I still remember how i woke up completely alert. It was the best night of sleep that i've had. Since then I've been taping for sleeping and over the years I notice that i got a kind of reflex, whenever my nose is runny or blocked by the chronic alergic sinusitis, usually triggered by dust and dander, as I tape and start to coordenate my breathing one of my nostrils is unblocked in a few minutes and then a I sleep throught the night. I've tried lost of tapes and shapes including band-aids, and the conclusion that I had its the same, a piece of micropore that I take of with my tongue in the morning. The first day I did it was the only day that I've woke up suffocating, I was using a cross of two band-aids, didn't thought much of it and went back to sleep. It's been 15 years then.

      Try pinching your nose shut for 10-15 seconds, you'll fund your sinuses drain and you can breathe through your nose better.

    I use mouth tape when I sleep. I also use “Breathe Right” strips, which hold my nose open. I love the way it feels to breathe this way at night. Been doing this for around four months.

      @@MHS_ART micro pore. Take some of the sticky Ness out of it first and use your tongue to remove.. I don't renew each night. It stays sticky

    Started doing this eight days ago using 3M Hospital Safety Tape and I’ve had the most restful sleep of my life ever since.
    My brain feels SO much better.

    Great video and book by James Nestor. 60 years on this planet and should have been told about the importance of nasal breathing by my doctors long ago ! The only way that’s ever going to happen is by making tape available by prescription only💰 You’ll never be told or taught by your GP about anything to improve your health which is virtually free like this little tip.

    I use 3M tape the lenght of a regular bandaid and put it diagonally across my lips starting on one side of the nose and I drop it down my chin. If I would really want, I could breath by the corners of my mouth... or cough but I don't need to. it will also cut teeth grinding with a lot of people as long as snoring. I also use a nose breath right for some extra.help with the nose.

    I am doing this not just at night but also when I work from home. I only take it off when I have to eat or drink. The first night I did this, I slept for 10 hours straight. My snoring was reduced by 85% (Snore Lab app). I use painter's tape so I just tear it off without having to use scissors. I put it on just like how James Nestor does it, Charlie Chaplin style :)

    Been doing this for a week and feeling benefits. I have twigged that what you are trying to do is not to block your mouth, but to stop your jaw from dropping. So the absolute minimum piece of tape is all you need. I'm down to about 1 1/2 inches, may work with even less.

    I’ve been mouth taping with medical tape for about 5 or 6 years and I couldn’t be happier. I also press on the tape a few times to remove some of the stickiness.

    So I’m reading your book, downloaded the sleep app you mentioned, bought the tape you use and started taping my mouth. The first night, the tape kept coming off; last night i cut it bigger and it stayed on all night, but I was still snoring all night long! How is that even possible, through my nose?

    Hey. Thanks for your video ! I had jaw surgery 1 year ago in order to breath better and today I'm just discovering this method. I tried it for 1/2 weeks but surprisingly I'm waking up during the night (4/5am). Is that normal ? Will it take tame to solutionate? Thanks 🙏🙏

    I’ve been mouth taping for 5+ years. I use 1” wide micropor tape - never thought of using my tongue to remove it 😅. Taping mouth at night has trained me to breath through nose during the day. Swear, I never get sick. Managed to make it through pandemic unscathed. Btw I’m reading your book now, and I’m actually learning a lot of new stuff.

    I've only been mouth taping for about six months but it's been a godsend! I've bought several copies of BREATH for family and friends, also mentioned it in my video, Mouth Taping Alternative (just because tape wasn't for me) and put a link to your book in the description.     i steam routinely with a pot of water on stove -- so i remove the mouth tape when i steam, it literally drops off in 2 seconds -- no pulling or stress on the softer lip tissue/skin

    I tried this last night, I was so happy that my mouth wasn't dry and sticky. The weird thing was I woke up drenched with sweat. I am assuming this raises the body temp.

    I just peel it off from the side where the lips meet. If you use the tape for sensitive skin you will be fine.
    I'm not crazy about the idea of rubbing my tongue on tape glue.

    Is it okay to do with blood pressure? I have been doing it with a tape I bought on line but it covers my whole mouth... I find I sometimes waken and have to take it off as I get air hunger, I practice your breathing videos and love them... I’m nearly 70 now... thanks for all you do ❤️

      Hi Claire Smith, Always speak to your doctor first. regarding the tape, I suggest James method of just a little bit in the centre of your lips, that way you can still walk and breathe out the mouth, the tape is just ever so slightly helping keep the mouth closed in the evening, and worst case it comes off easy enough.     The problem I say with the statement he made is that he says is to keep your jaw from moving but I've been taping with CPAP and even with the lips closed the jaw still can relax.

    Oil pullimg going for a long walk. Coconut oil swism around ur mouth i think realigns ur throat muscles cause a few days of that and sleeping improved a lot. Also if want to get heart rate up without stressing joints fast walking with mouth full of oil helps. Makes u a better swimmer as leaen to breath with liquid in ur mouth. Maybe gives u a better speaking or singing voice.

    So are we saying that breathing through mouth is not sleep apnea, as sleep apnea would block all beathing weather from mouth/nose? Does this mean that this is more of a disorder and need training oneself to auto breath through nose instead of mouth?

    I've choked using my cpap because of dryness now that's hard to disengage in a hurry.I'm switching to tape cpap is not working for me at all.

    Strange that the main reason to use sleep strip was not mentioned...? If the mouth is closed, snoring won't occur from the tongue falling back in the throat blocking the airway. Huge!!!

    First of all, very interesting book and since a few weeks I've been trying to focus a lot on nose breathing which feels great so far.
    In addition, I've been trying to tape my mouth as James describes since a few weeks, but I often find myself removing the tape after 1-2 hours because I cannot fall asleep with it. Does anyone experience the same c.q. has suggestions on this?

      Try using gelatine sheets cut them into tiny pieces that fit between your lips

    As a dedicated follow to the Nasal breathing and someone that regularly tapes their mouth- has anyone else experienced waking mid sleep, feeling anxious and unable to breath properly? I suffer from hay fever at certain times of the year and am constantly blowing my nose, sneezing throughout the day and generally feeling bunged up. It can take me awhile to settle at night, as my nose clears (albeit only on one side) but I eventually I have a good nights sleep. Except on these rare occasions when I wake and struggle to get enough oxygen in through my nose. At these times, it’s really difficult not to remove the tape on my mouth. Instead I usually sit up and read a book until my breathing relaxes and I’m able to fall asleep again. Is this side effect common with people who suffer from restricted nose passages due to hay fever?

      Not the question you asked, but if I may, I've found black seed oil to be great for allergies and hay fever. A teaspoon morning and night works wonders. Even had one of my cat allergic girlfriends forget she was allergic to my cats, it worked so well.
      Furthermore, if you really wanted to resolve it, a well conducted juice fast for a number of days would be something I'd consider. Worked wonders at clearing out my nasal passage and I didn't even know it had congestion to begin with.

    I've been mouth taping for a couple of years, but had to stop recently for about four weeks because of covid coughing. I do worry about the toxicity of the glue in tapes. Do you have an opinion or know of any non-toxic tape?

    I've been trying without success to mouth tape for a year or more now. Because I use a nasal pillow CPAP mask and can't keep my mouth shut. I drool and the tape comes loose within an hour.

    I tried this and i kept waking up every 30 minutes in panic to make sure I was still breathing. And I started having sleep paralysis and lucid dreams 😅🤣 I had to take it off just to get some sleep .

      oh dear, might be best to start then with trying to keep mouth closed all day, nasal breathing and practicing some breath holds to help adapt you, there is some benefit tho in persisting if its not too bad, it should improve, its most likely your body not use to that much co2, but will adapt

    My mouth drops open because my jaw drops open. Weak tape just rips off. Strong tape simply just pulls my face really hard and my skin stretches really bad and I will get bad wrinkles later in life.

      Tensor Sport "Sports" tape I've found to be the best and I've tried loads of others. Walmart sells it, very inexpensive. Best to be clean shaven and bend over one end 1/8th inch for easy removal.

    I have a question and hope you can answer it :)
    When I start breathing in extrem deeply and letting go for about 5 times and then take a last very deep breath in, hold it and squeeze it to my head, I feel very high and feel very strange in my head and vision.
    What is this? DMT in my pineal gland or brain cells, dying out? Is it harmless to practice this very short breath work or should I avoid it to save my brain? What do you think? Do you know what's going on here??

      Do you feel tingling in your fingers? It is possibly oxygen deficiency or hypoxia. When you hyperventilate you blow off CO2, and low CO2 raises the pH of the blood and means that oxygen can't leave your blood cells very easily. It feels quite trippy. Wim Hof does something similar. I wouldn't recommend it if you have a low CO2 tolerance or have asthma for example.

    100% mouth taping makes you feel great in the morning but, if your head in not in the right sleep position as described by George Catlin, the lower jaw will stretch your nose down and make you look like a mouth breather anyway.

    That amount of tape is not enough for me. Most mouth tapes come off on one side during the night for me because I might have coughed or drooled a bit. Weak tape doesn't keep your mouth shut. I've been mouth taping for almost 2 years now.
