I can‘t understand why this video doesn’t have more views. This is one of the best „Tokyo Apartments for Foreigners 101“ out there! I binged all of your content today and instantly subscribed. Thank you for giving us such amazing videos!
As somebody who's planning on moving to Japan for a year on a working holiday visa, this video is actually incredibly helpful, I cannot thank you enough for making this video! It's a shame that Weave's apartments are so much more expensive than similar rentals from different companies, as well as having the predatory practice of offering different monthly prices depending on how long you plan to rent for, while advertising at the cheapest price option they have
@@curlycreature7693 I decided to go looking for an example from one of their currently available apartments. They have a 1DK apartment with an advertised monthly cost of 183k yen, but when you look in the description the price changes to 275k per month for a 1-3 month stay, or 220k per month for a 3-9 month stay
As always a great high quality video. Weave couldn't have asked for better apt tour guides! I liked the Asakusa one the best because of the location so close to Orange Street.
Yessss!!! Thank you for this detailed tour. You originally gave me the advice to check out Hmlet for short term apartment rentals. So, now I'll have to check out Weave too for our move next year! I love that you still take the time to post these informative videos between all the fun ones as well. Keep em coming!! Thanks again!
I remember that! Hiiii again ☺️ We’re really glad that our recommendations have been useful! Hope everything will go smoothly when moving time comes. Excited for you! 🙌 Thanks for watching, we appreciate your support!!!
Yay! Glad this was useful, and welcome to our channel! Congrats on your upcoming retirement as well. We hope you get to spend plenty of time in Japan- it’s a great place to explore! ☺️
Super helpful info! 1 tip for youtubing for you is to use a dedicated mic not the mic on your camera as the reverb makes the audio a bit hard to listen to.
Thank you so much for sharing! I was looking at those exact two apartments for my work holiday visa and was worried about how big it actually was. I think for my 6 month stay ill be doing a furnished apartment, save the hassle and really just spend time enjoying japan c:
Hello, very informative video ! can't wait to be back in Tokyo. Explanations and tips are helpful and top notch. Can't wait to be back in Tokyo ! Do you now how to find a coupon for Weave ?
Thank you for tuning in! I’m glad this was useful! 😊 I don’t know of any coupons for Weave, but they’ve just launched a new building ‘Ueno South’ which is currently offering an early-bird promotion!
What kind of budget would you recommend for two people living in these areas for a month, excluding the cost of renting with weave? Looking to microdose on living in Japan with my partner sometime in 2025 and try it out.
Based on what we’ve seen: For a traditional rental, a monthly rent of around ¥200,000-250,000+ (~1400-1750 USD) will easily open up many options for spacious, convenient, and relatively new apartments! If you drop it down to around ¥150,000 (~1100 USD) for two people, there will likely need to be a compromise somewhere- but still very liveable and a solid budget in general. ☺️
Hi dears, I liked the 3the apartment the most!! But to me the most important thing would be that there are stores/shops and others in the direct neighborhood!!!! Why not the furnished ones? I really want my own stuff ;-) Big plus: there is a deskspace in the bedroom in front of a window!! And a huge plus for me: it has 3 burners for cooking!!! It will not be in this lifetime for me to go to Japan, maybe in a next life??? Cause I really love Japan! One big problem is that I'm a vegetarian (for about 60 years already!! I'm now 65.) and I fear there are not many places to eat for vegetarians or things to buy in the supermarkets ;-( Maybe you know if I'm right about that cause I'm not certain about that. Lot of warm greetz and luck from an old (rebel), Pinkie
Hi Pinkie! We’re so happy that you watched our video and even shared so many of your thoughts. ☺️ We love Japan too! It can indeed be a bit tough for a vegetarian to dine out in Japan, but it’s not too difficult to grocery shop and cook at home as a vegetarian.
My dream is to move to Japan (specifically Tokyo) someday. This video was both amazingly helpful and simple to follow. Keep up the great work. I enjoy your channel 2 questions: 1) How would someone who is new to Japan even go about producing everything listed? Like, how would someone have their residents' card, japanese residence history, or japanese bank account if they're JUST arriving? 2) When looking at "flex" options, did you notice if any of them accept pets?
We're glad this video was useful for you! Thanks for the motivation :) 1) The residence card is issued on arrival at the airport, as you go through immigration. In most cases that we've heard of, people typically stay at some sort of short-term housing for the initial month or so, since those don't require as much paperwork. They first register the address with the local government in order to receive a jūminhyō (residence record). With that official residence record, they can apply for a cellphone number. And finally, they should be able to open a Japanese bank account. 2) It looks like Weave doesn't accept pets. For a pet-friendly alternative, you could check out Hmlet. That's where we stayed when we first arrived. They have furnished rentals and some of their buildings are pet friendly!
I would steer clear of Asakusa for several reasons ( Unfortunately I have to go there twice a week for my Pilates class). If I were you I would chose other areas.
please i just need a little clarity, for moving into a traditional apartment in Japan the base rent could be 190k JPY for a period of 1 month, but for a first time tenant, this person would pay a rough some of 10x the rent due to several involved fees, which would allow the tenant to live in the apartment for 2yrs before having to pay the base rent amount for a 1 month stay ?
The tenant would still have to pay the 190k JPY monthly rent for every month that they stay in the apartment. All the other fees that I listed are a one-time payment that is paid in addition to monthly rent. Hope this helps to clarify things!
I liked this very much it is very helpful to me and my fiance. Although when going through the Weave stay do they accept pets? I have a cat and we plan on bringing him with us as we are studying abroad in the near fall. If they do not accept pets, what other recommendations do you guys suggest?
Thank you! We're glad this was useful! 🥹 Here's the e-mail address for contacting Weave directly: live.jp@weave-living.com Also, our first apartment was pet-friendly, but the security deposit will be more expensive in that case- just a heads up! We posted a tour of it here: ruclips.net/video/yLMoCqlsBtk/видео.html
One thing I see NO ONE including here talking about is pet friendly apartments. if I cannot bring my chihuahua which is a pretty small dog that is well trained and assists in my diabetes (they can smell and detect blood sugar levels and alert) I cannot feel at peace enough to even try and visit long term. It would be amazing if you could give any information or where to look for such information.
We totally understand how that would be important! The first apartment we stayed at when we moved here was pet-friendly. If you want to see a tour of it, we have a video here: ruclips.net/video/yLMoCqlsBtk/видео.htmlsi=9AM1-bUwDU5zQ-nI
so are you not allowed to take pictures or videos in the rooms to post on social media even if you are renting the room? (thank you for the great video too! it's very helpful!)
Thanks for watching! Glad you found it useful! It’s okay to photograph/film for personal use if you’re living there. The restrictions only apply for commercial/business-related use. :)
That happens everywhere. The US charges you a "temporary" fee when you pay for gas through your phone instead of walking into the shop and paying there, a fee retained until the actual transaction clears. This often falsely puts people into their overdraft, which means their bank then charges them penalty fees. It isn't tradition, it's predatory capitalistic practices.
Which apartment would you choose to live in? 😄
Where is the closet in the 1st apartment? Where would you put your clothes?
Also, what if someone doesn't have a Japanese emergency contact to put on their rental application?
Fully furnished, short term about 2 to 3 months. Thanks.

Fantastic video very professional and I love how you present

I think for the long run, traditional rental is still more affordable. I did a quick calculation for a 2 years lease, i will save 1 million yen.

Nice and informative, you sold me on a sub

How much is the security deposit with weave? Is it the usual one months rent?
Thanks for this great information.
I'd like to have the first apt but Im guessing its way too expensive
Beautiful home is beautiful 🥰🥰
Does a flexible rental count for juminhyo?
Yes! It can be registered on your Juminhyo as your official residential address :)

Very brave that Jeff is part of the LGBTQ community. I love how open Japan is to the community.

Key money is ridiculous. It’s funny in Japan how tradition trumps common sense or reason in some cases.
That happens everywhere. The US charges you a "temporary" fee when you pay for gas through your phone instead of walking into the shop and paying there, a fee retained until the actual transaction clears. This often falsely puts people into their overdraft, which means their bank then charges them penalty fees.
