What I like about hobby lobby is that they have a sale on yarn usually every other week! 30% off. So I do purchase from them. But I must disagree about wool being “scratchy “ older wools were but now there are blends that are very soft. Also merino wool is wonderfully soft and durable. Makes beautiful garments. When I learned to knit and crochet my grandmother used red heart. So that is what I still use sometimes. Thanks for sharing 😊
I am a lot older than you and also learned to crochet with Red Heart yarn about 60 years ago (it was all wool then and my mother would save me her scraps). To this day and it my favorite and I definitely agree with you about the color options. I would put Mainstay as my second favorite as well. Unfortunately, my Walmart doesn't seem to have many color options. I appreciate your video because I have never tried some of these other yarns before. It makes me happy to know that the younger generation (you) is keeping crochet alive and well.
I love Red Heart Super Saver, Caron One Pound, and Caron Simply Soft. With Red Heart Super Saver, if you wash your finished project and use a lot of fabric softner, it softens up tremendously.
I love Red heart super saver. I make all my kids blankets out of red heart. It has a lot of colors, its a sturdy yarn, it washes well, and easily found.
Did you like that so much, you should try I love this yarn from Hobby lobby. Every other week they have a 30 percent off all yarn sale and that particular yarn is $3.49 a skein and MUCH softer, its buttery soft, and 355 yds
Nice comparisons; thanks! Super Saver is too rough to suit me. Of the ones you ranked that I've used, I like Caron Simply Soft best. I like its softness and its subtle sheen. I"m not a proficient crocheter, though.
You should try I Love This Yarn brand at Hobby lobby. Every other week all their yarn is 30% off. That yarn is only 3.49 per skein every other week ❤❤❤
Red Heart Super Saver and Red Heart Comfort are my number one and two that I can mix and match , Red Heart Comfort is just a bit softer and comes in nice big skeins 16 ounce 867 yards at my walmart for the best deal to make blankets.
I'm currently knitting a blanket with Red Heart Super Saver because I just love the color Latte Stripe, it's so pretty! I don't think it's too rough or anything, I really enjoy knitting with it tbh, but to each their own
I agree! I think the newer skeins are much softer. I’ve bought some from thrift stores and they are really rough so I think people that say it’s too rough probably tried it a while ago
I agree with you red heart is my #1 for the colors. The red heart ones the tend to more on the rough side do tend to soften up for me for the most part when washing. I have had only one color that has been stubborn 😣 to soften for me.
I know you mentioned on the premier just yarn the price increase the ball is also now 109 yards instead. (They made all their skeins smaller). I noticed this over the last few weeks.
For some of these yarns I personally have not tried washing them yet, but for all the ones I have so far they don’t seem to pill. I do always hand-wash everything I make though because I’m scared of ruining all my hard work
I just ordered some ice yarns in saver I'm hoping it's soft and durable like Red heart. One of my favorites is premier everyday..I like some of lionbrand (heartland) but not all of there yarns. I also really love Deramores yarn..and of course cotton yarns..♥️
I love this video so much!! I love polyester/plush yarn, and I was wondering if I could film that on my channel, but only if you say yes since you came up with this :))
I’m so glad you enjoyed and I think you should do it on your channel, it’s a great idea!! :) I’ve actually been wanting to do velvet/blanket yarns for a video like this but I just haven’t gotten to it yet plus I want to try a few more different ones before making a video on it!
Hi Katie! Loved this video. I am planning out a temperature blanket for my almost 5 month old daughter that will be for her first year. I found your video while TRYING to pick which yarn would be best! I am stuck between Caron One Pound and Lion Brand One Pound of Love. Do you have any experience washing finished projects with either? I hope this will become a heirloom and want it to last especially while washing. Any thoughts would be so appreciated! Just subbed :)
Thank you so much!! :) I personally haven’t washed pound of love before but Caron one pound does do pretty well being washed! I always just hand wash and air dry any crochet projects just to be safe but it would probably be ok in the washing machine as well! I hope this helps! And good luck on the temperature blanket! :)
It’s all personal preference so that’s okay if you’re not a fan. Some skeins can be scratchy but I found a lot of the newer ones aren’t bad and the main projects I make are not wearables, so it also depends on what type of projects you enjoy making as to what yarns you’re going to like :)
What is your problem with some acrylic yarns? I love all acrylic yarns and cotton yarns. It is great for a scrap blanket which I am still working on at this point.
Brittany Krieger dont be rude Katie has no problem - u do for being rude, dont comment on her vids if ur gonna be rude :) (I apologise on her behalf Katie) x
Should I do this video again with different yarns? Maybe cotton or polyester next time?! You can head over to my community tab to vote on this! :)
Yes! Do it with cotton!
I definitely will!

Aw thank you for this sweet comment! :) I love hearing your story and it’s so cool that we both learned on red heart and it’s still our favorites!

I think they have really good designers for their patterned yarn.

Red Heart is indeed #1 in my book as well!!!! Easy to learn to crochet/knit on their yarns and I like their multi-color yarn skeins. Great Value!
Hobby Lobby's I Love This Yarn is actually few cents cheaper than red heart every other week on their 30% off sales, plus MUCH softer at 3.49 ❤
I like your list! My favorites are definitely I Love This Yarn, Big Twist Living and Yarn Bee Anti-Pilling!
I actually haven’t tried the yarn bee anti pilling before! I’d love to do a list like this with just anti pilling yarns too!
@@katiebeingcreative You should totally try it! I will say, it does pill a bit, BUT, it is so incredibly soft and the colors are gorgeous.
Awesome! I will definitely check it out!

I’ve actually never used red heart comfort, but I think I have some in my stash I’ll have to try it!
I'm currently knitting a blanket with Red Heart Super Saver because I just love the color Latte Stripe, it's so pretty! I don't think it's too rough or anything, I really enjoy knitting with it tbh, but to each their own

Definitely! A lot of yarns do soften when washing and with all the color options and how many places sell it, it is definitely my top!
My favorite yarn is the Caron One Pound😁
Definitely a great one!! :)
i love red heart super savers
Love Red Heart to make blankets. I use Red H With Love. Some Supper S are also soft
Definitely great for blankets especially with all the color options!
I know you mentioned on the premier just yarn the price increase the ball is also now 109 yards instead. (They made all their skeins smaller). I noticed this over the last few weeks.
Oh wow I had no idea! The skeins I have are from a few months ago so they must still be the larger size, what a rip off!
I really like big twist, lion brand mandala & caron simply soft!
I also like red heart for home items, I make a lot of wearables & can’t use red heart myself but I do enjoy it for household items like pillows & such
That’s great! They all are great for different things for sure :)
How do you prevent your projects from getting overly fuzzy cause everytime I use acrylic it just turns to fuzz?
I’d like to know how they hold up after several washes? Do they pill?
For some of these yarns I personally have not tried washing them yet, but for all the ones I have so far they don’t seem to pill. I do always hand-wash everything I make though because I’m scared of ruining all my hard work

That’s a great list, with some I haven’t tried! I’ll have to try them, thank you for sharing! ❤️

Lost me at super saver…good for your none wearables but too scratchy 😢

I don’t really have a “problem” with any yarn, just some acrylics can be not as soft, get tangled easily, etc.
