Finally... now I have a place where I can direct people to hear just how great Kate Wolf's music is. Thanks for posting. As far as I'm concerned, Kate Wolf is the best folk singer ever - So sorry she had to go.
"And try to believe that the sweetest hello always comes after the hardest goodbye" That's my favorite quote in the whole big world. It helps me through so much.
I first saw and heard her at the Cafe Boujelouis in Mendocino...around 1979 or so...I got to sit right at her feet as she filled that small room with her voice and heart... I heard her introduce Nina Gerber for the first time..all those years ago...I sang her song at my own wedding...I have all her songs...I cried and cried when she passed over the 'great divide'.. I just saw Nina at a private concert in Woodside CA...and the love that came to us, from Kate, through her songs...seemed to me to be shining from Nina...Nina was under the weather physically...but the day brought Kate back for me and I was struck with the incredible soft loving energy that came from Nina... Life is amazing...being human here is certainly "not for sissies"..and music that transports us to open-heartedness...well...we always need more of that Thank you Kate; and thank you Nina and all those with you who bring us YOUR version of love...that was intertwined with Kate's and continues on... It was a beautiful day in woodside...truly inspiring...
It is such a loss. But I do not feel that she is gone as long as her songs remain. I had until recently not heard of Kate Wolf, but yet, I feel I have always known her as strange as that may seem.
the intense ethereal blue of a cobalt crystal light bathes her face and words and voice, the music and her voice carry me away to a new and often better place.
You're a quicksilver lady A child of the morning A flower by day A slow fire by night And he's taught you things For all that you've shown him He's a gazer of stars A blue crystal light And sometimes he cries And he says things That pierce you to your soul But he's still a man who loves you And it hurts to let you go You're a man with the power Of rattlesnake lightening Hard like the mountains But soft like the sun And she's taught you things For all that you've shown her She's a weaver of visions In threads finely spun And sometimes she cries And she walks away Held by the dreams that find her But she's still a woman who loves you And her heart will always remind her So, dance for the day But watch for the signs That point out your way When the dust fills your eyes And try to believe That the sweetest hello Always comes after The hardest goodbye For two ways can sometimes make one That's stronger than either alone So, dancers join hands For the two-way waltz But take the steps on your own For two ways can sometimes make one Yes, that's stronger than either alone So, dancers join hands For the two-way waltz But take all the steps on your own
Such beautiful lyrics...I have listened to the song quite often as it comforts me and her song brings me close to the one I adore, love and miss so much....as he was so suddenly taken from me....Gone too soon but I will always carry you close to my heart and Kate's music will always be part of us....You both left us with a wonderful gift...your music....~~.♥~~
Thank you very much for posting this video. Kate was such a wonderful artist. I really like her songs, but this one, in particular, is my favorite. I really hope that people can discover her wonderful music and lyrics by videos such as this. Her music deserves so much more attention. She teaches us long forgotten lessons. "So dance for the day, but watch for the signs, that point out you way, when the doubt (dust in the album version) fills your eyes..."
Yet another gemstone from Kate's pen, perfectly delivered. I hope she knows now, how much heartfelt joy she has left in her wake. For me at least, the 3 greatest losses for the world of songwriting, in the 1980's - Steve Goodman, Stan Rogers, Kate Wolf. RIP, K.W. Fred
@NewWaver80014 My friend, in a sense she left us then. I a sense she is still here, in another sense she will never leave us. I see life in the light of her again in near every hike, in many of the late or early drives in my wild east county, and during some of the beer busts in our rural yard when kind souls&nature&happiness are here. :-)
Beautiful. I had only ever heard this with piano backing so this is a revelation. The accompaniment from Rick B. and Miss Nina reminds me an awful lot of Kate's former collaborator (and ex-husband) Don Coffin. Since they all worked together at various times, this makes sense, in that cosmic sort of way. :-) In particular, the harmonica makes me think of one of my all-time favorite Kate songs, Safe at Anchor. Kate, thank you so much. We miss you.
Una canzone da sabato sera che si ha voglia di stare insieme a se stesso...e lasciarsi "scaldare" dai Ricordi... grazie Kate delle tue canzoni...stasera riposa su una nuvola bianca... ciao

I have just discovered Kate's music, she is great ! It is however very difficult to say who is better. I still prefer Sandy Denny. It is amazing they resemble each other. Sandy died even younger ! Compare this piece with Sandy's Old fashioned walz. Did they ever met ? Kate has covered Sandy's Who knows where the time goes ? RIP them both
Poignant and meaningful lyrics. What a poet and observer of life. It's so special to see Kate's smile at the end.
~Though gone, Kate Wolf remains an American Treasure. ~We Remember... Kate Wolf...Sweet Angel!
To dramatycznie krótkie życie Kate Wolf,dało niezwykłe doznania muzyczne,które wzruszają i bogacą.

olecodjur ahem ahem, what would others say about eva cassidy?
@@heydude7568 Eva not even close, and Eva doesn't write her own songs. Kate's songs are incredible
Oh what a treasure of a song. Truly beautiful evoking many emotions. An absolute genius . Just love her music.
"And try to believe that the sweetest hello always comes after the hardest goodbye" That's my favorite quote in the whole big world. It helps me through so much.
Kate Wolf, the best of the best folk singers!! R I P
Oh, my God ... she was magnificent. This particular song has long been one of my favorites. It's such wise advice.
Voice of an angel

I'm so jealous.
One of my favorite of Kate's many wonderful songs! So good to see her play and sing it.
just discovered kate a night ago one of the finest songwriters ive ever heard ,such meaningful songs
She is everyones treasure. As a Canadian who has just found this wonderful voice, it is sad that such a talent is lost.
I play this song when my life is rocked with loss...wrapping up in the notes...even the sweetest songs end.
It is such a loss. But I do not feel that she is gone as long as her songs remain. I had until recently not heard of Kate Wolf, but yet, I feel I have always known her as strange as that may seem.

Yes, Kate left us way too soon. This is one of my favorites of her songs.
You're a quicksilver lady
A child of the morning
A flower by day A slow fire by night
And he's taught you things
For all that you've shown him
He's a gazer of stars A blue crystal light
And sometimes he cries
And he says things
That pierce you to your soul
But he's still a man who loves you
And it hurts to let you go
You're a man with the power Of rattlesnake lightening Hard like the mountains
But soft like the sun
And she's taught you things
For all that you've shown her
She's a weaver of visions In threads finely spun
And sometimes she cries
And she walks away
Held by the dreams that find her
But she's still a woman who loves you
And her heart will always remind her
So, dance for the day But watch for the signs That point out your way
When the dust fills your eyes
And try to believe That the sweetest hello Always comes after The hardest goodbye For two ways can sometimes make one That's stronger than either alone
So, dancers join hands
For the two-way waltz
But take the steps on your own
For two ways can sometimes make one
Yes, that's stronger than either alone
So, dancers join hands
For the two-way waltz
But take all the steps on your own
❤

La sonrisa de Kate, al final, es hermosa. Llena de paz.
