RIP Nanci and thank you for all the great music. You were one of a kind.
Nanci Griffith's music and stories forever live on 🤗
The greatest songwriter!
Nancy had a deep understanding of the music she played, the songs she sung, no matter the writers she always gave them the justice they deserved, I don't think I ever heard her just cruise through a number, rather she always passed its meaning on to us.
Such a singular , talented and humble person , gone far too soon, denied the golden years , may she rest gently in peace and love and song with all the other legends.
You helped me to continue and to continue loving music.
RIP
Just beautiful music
Turned 56 yesterday and played this song tonight, NYE 2024. Nanci is the only goddess I will ever need.
Thanks Nanci for all of your heartfelt music. Say hello to John Rest In Peace Texas Songbird
Nanci stayed true to her personal style - loved her stories in song….she is missed.
My favorite song sung by this angel. Can't believe she is gone. I hope she knows how much she was loved. Thank you Nanci for leaving us with your beautiful music. Rest in eternal peace.
Thank you Nanci Griffith & Emmylou Harris for this wonderful tribute to Kate Wolf.
These ladies are simply hauntingly brilliant. Nanci has lifted this song to immortal levels. Her emotion is brilliant. Emmy’s harmony is stunning. Kate would be immensely proud of this version. This is just mesmerising.
A whole week since Nanci passed. This is the first time I’ve felt able to watch and hear her sing. And yes, as expected, tears.
Nanci was so gracious, polite, and warm. A southern belle, with a radiant smile.
It is great to see Nina Gerber on this as well. What a great guitarist!
Nina one of the best guitarist ever.🕊🌻❤🤩😍
Pete Kennedy is no slouch, either.
I love Nina’s beautiful solo. Clearly enunciated picking and finished off with those tasty harmonics
Both Kate and Nanci left us way too soon.
They are making heavenly music together now.
That is absolutely sublime. It's almost outer worldly. Since Nanci and Kate passed away I'm not sure anybody has really stepped forward to fill the void. The more you listen the more you appreciate just how good they really were.
love you Nanci...................................thanks
Rest in Peace beautiful Soul. Now Nanci crossed the great divide. Crying. 🌹🙏🏽
Great job by Nina Gerber. Very subtle & exquisite licks--like Nance's voice.
I just discovered Kat Wolf. The other day...now I can't stop listening to her music.... Rest in Peace...
This song helped me dearly when I went through my "bad years". All the sorrow and the pain was stored inside this song. Comes back everytime I hear it. Reminds me how life can be and that times changes things. But not for all.. Don't forget those who suffer or are in pain. Lets hope the better days comes again.
Støtter deg der.
Yes YSTÄVIÄ YSTÄVIÄ RAa
There simply are no words to describe... I'm certain Nanci and Kate are now doing duets - now they've crossed the Great Divide. We miss you ladies incredibly🥲
Nanci was only 68 when she died. Not fair. She had so much more to give us.
I can only give it one thumbs up! What a shame!
Wonderful! A lovely tribute to the great song writer and artist, Kate Wolf.
Nanci's first appearance on Austin City Limits hooked me. Many's the night she sang me to sleep. The songs she wrote, the songs of others she gave her touch. What I would have given to spend an evening around a campfire with her and Emmy and a few others
I have to listen to these two queens sing together. Never a day goes by when I don’t listen to one of their duets together. Both are such power houses yet can blend so well together that it amazes me. E LH brings such depth to these songs that I am amazed at her range of harmony. NG is out of this world. Together they are incomparable. Thanks NG and ELH for such wonderful music
I just found out Nancy has passed away. My heart is broken. Thank you for the memories and the music.
I wonder if Kate and Nancy found each other yet for duets in heaven🌹❤️
I saw Kate Wolf in Sebastopol in the early 1980s at the Laguna and Nina Gerber. Brings back some fantastic memories!
KATE WOLF REMEMBERED and never forgotten.
Quite an honor to be a part of this,, even just in hearing/viewing this beautiful song.
Thank you for the music 🙌 RIP the great Nanci Griffith
This song brings me into tears.Kate would have loved this rendition.By the most wonderful singers i know. What a sightTnx for sharing.Koos from Amsterdam.
That is so bautiful from 86. I was born in 1981 into 86 i came to countrymusic. I was into karl may festival in elspe in germany. In this year i was young and i came to countrymusic. I like it. countrymusik and bluegrass is my world
It was Nancy Griffith's version that turned me on to Kate Wolf, who I love more than words. Thanks, Nancy.
I compare Kate's voice as the female version of Jim Reeves. It just doesn't get better. I do miss Nancy and keep my fingers crossed that she'll return to the stage sometime.
Me too
The same happened to me.
Me too.. love both of them
Indeed
Nancy Griffith was so very kind to me at Kerrville and mis Gerber played back up for me at Windfield. Loved listening to the Harmony.🎶
when I go to heaven, I wonna hear Kate Wolf sing accross the great devide again ...
i heard her at the Vancouver folk fest years ago
Rest in Peace you beautiful lady xx
Nanci has crossed oer but her music with us now for eternity.
She was part of my youth now she's gone and I'm still here listening to her music sweet dreams
This was the first song on the CD, am I right? I remember well the week I bought it; it's a very melancholy album, but that's exactly how I felt at the time. One of the most under rated CD's of the '90's.
Not underrated: it won the best country album Grammy.
🕊🌻💐RIP NANCI .RIP KATE WOLFE .💐🌻🕊
There's a power of great talent on that stage.
R.I.P Nanci Griffith and Kate Wolf!! Two beautiful voices and wonderful ladies who left this world much too soon! 🌅🌄
A great performance of one of the most incredible songs EVER.
Brought a tear to my eyes.
Magnifique 🥲❤️❤️❤️
One of this country's best woman vocalist!!!!
Nanci: You were a bridge across country, folk, pop, rock n' roll ballad. The soft, tender notes and the spontaneous throaty emphasis combined to perfection when singing your own great short stories, or that of others. Thanks for the post, Kenneth. Thanks for what you gave to your audiences, Nanci.
Great to hear this and to see Nina, Emmylou and Nanci perform w Pete and band. Awesome song, and a proper tribute to Kate. Fine posting.
The blessings of knowing these voices this people my heroes! Will be here for women to know in the generations to come. I've been so blessed to have such great representation of my generation!
❤️ this is one of my favorite performances to watch. EVER
Emmylou ❤🧡💗
Wish Kate’s voice could be Mixed in this exquisite version. This is just a brilliant version
I'm 40 years old now and if I live to 80, I actually don't think this can be topped.
watch Kate Wolf singing Green Eyes here on RUclips. Just about the most romantic song you'll ever hear
Other voices other rooms is my most favorite album of all time
I'm not crying!
Allways tears when i play this song
Rest In Peace Nanci Across the Great Divide......Teach the Angels this song.
Nanci and Tony Rice inspired me to leave my medical practice in India to chase this music. My PhD Ethnomusicology dissertation (UT Austin) had a chapter on Kate Wolf's music, and Nina Gerber (alongside Kate's producer/bassist Bill Griffin and Mike Auldridge) graciously supplied her insights.
This song, in both the legendary versions (the other with Kate and Tony), was on the CDs I first bought when I started this journey in 1999. It has always sounded like Kate wrote this for the divide I had just crossed.
Y'all wrote my life, y'all. Glad to have had these "brave companions of the road."
They bestow Ph.d's in ethnomusicology? What fun. Makes me think I wasted mine in non-solid neoplastic diseases...
@@nickjohnson5376 It's a PhD in unemployment. But, you are right about "what fun!" I lived in Nanci's city on that ruse in what might have been the best era for Austin since the 1970s.
I use to go see Nanci Griffith at Anderson's Fair in Houston throughout the late 70's and fell in love with her songs and angelic voice still listening to her music
Beautiful
They harmonize so well - its beautiful
Emmy Lou is a master matching the phrasing of the lead singer.. .often without watching them... she closes her eyes and is in the flow... in sync we call that the mojo...
The mojo is stored in her magical hair😌✨
The sign of True Art is to inspire New Art. Thank you Kate. EmmyLou and of course Nanci
...
RIP, Nanci...thank you...
The sounds of my childhood. Thank you ladies.✌️🇺🇸
I loved Nanci's music!! Rest In Paradise Nanci!
Nanci, you are missed! I love you
Simply beautiful.
Nancy and Emmylou. Friends. Colleagues. Masters of Their Craft.
What a gorgeous performance! OMW! Truly. I “found” Kate about 5 years ago. I’m late to the party re Nanci, too. Regrets.
This song still gives me goosebumbs..great performance..thank you for your music ...Rest in peace Nancy. Your voice will be remembered😔🙏
I was at this show. One of the best musical nights of my life.
RIP Nanci...Great singer.
May her gentle soul rest in peace in God’s love 🙏🏼❤️🌹
A loved one has left us ... with these treasures. I will remember this.
Absolutely love this song and love her version best of all. Such an incredibly sad song. It reminds me of the people who I took for granted so many years ago, and the life I had I took for granted also. Now they are all gone and that life I once knew is all gone too. 😢😢
This is such a majestic tribute to Kate Wolf. NG rendition of this majestic is phenomenal. The harmony is exquisite, just watch it from 4.15 to the end. ELH brings such a depth of harmony, it is ridiculous. Nina’s guitar work is so beautiful that it’s timeless. The ending is such perfection. A masterpiece and a true tribute to Kate Wolf.
Kathy, I love your voice……but Nancy, I will never stop missing you.
Děkuji Ti Nanci za krásné písně.Odpočívej v pokoji.
Great guitar playing, great song, great singers! Peter Turner, England.
this sure sounds like Heaven - great singers - great tribute -special
What a sweet voice singing a sweet song by a sweet person! I miss her as well!
I've been a fan for many years...she can also get things rolling ...Southbound Train, Roseville Fair..etc. etc
Amazing talent to say the least.
My favorite song.
I've seen them all that were on this song and ya can't get much better. Love this time in Nanci's career
God I miss Nanci Griffith.
Thank you for the Recommendation - I have just spotted it! This is a wonderful Clip, a priceless gem!
[Tyneside, England.]
Incredible song, lyrics, and message. Thank you all for sharing this with the world. CANCER SUCKS and so does COVID.
Emmylou is so beautiful
Finally, a version that does justice to immortal Kate Wolf ... sweet! ... but, there will never be a more gifted artist than Kate Wolf ... u' should have seen her in a concert sing' across the great devide ...
Miss Nanci
Pure gold..
Don't overlook Iris Dement. It's her high harmony that completes the trio and it wouldn't be the same without her contribution. Fantastic! Follow the threads for more from this concert. It is still available on VHS and any studio can transcribe it onto a DVD so as to preserve the tape.
Magoo142 I was lucky enough to hear Iris with the Nanci Griffith. She was beyond amazing.
Iris DeMent isn't on this track; the other woman (playing the mandolin) is Lee Satterfield. Iris was on some of the other songs on this show (Speed of the Sound... and Tired of Me Darling for example) and on the album, she was on the cover of Gordon Lightfoot's Ten Degrees and Getting Colder.
Yes yes indeed
Iris is an angel who can harmonize with Emmylou or John Prine
Lovely ..
Could not agree more about Iris - great singer. Peter Turner, England. UK
Such a wonderful tribute! Extremely talented women!
HOW GOOD IS THIS ? GREAT TALENT !!!!!
Doesn't get much better than this.
Wow!! That was outstanding. Made my day.
Amazing talent..
Thank you, Michael. I used to go to Mendocino in the last century to hear Kate. Sorely missed.
I miss mendocino
