I bought one back in late 99 for $32 brand new...stored it for 20 years and recently ran it..still runs good and appreciate your video on how to work on these
So glad you have this video. Just bought same engine from ebay. Won bidding for $38 and $9 shipping. Looks like new. It is new old stock. But grease on gears is all hard and sticky. I need to break it down and clean everything before I attemp to run it. This video will be my guide. Seems like you can fix anything. Great videos.
Great video sir! Glad to see you were able to give this unit a second life! Bachmann drives are simple to repair! Glad you were able to make some gears! I subbed to your channel! Keep up the fine work!
Wonderful piece. I always learn something from any of your videos, even the non train ones. And always learn about particular issues with N scale locos too. Too bad about those cracked gears. I am wondering if 3d printed replacements could be found? I am seeing more and more showing up in the indexes. I am surprised too the Bachmann itself hasn't made replacement sets as the locks have lifetime warranty for original owners and they do repairs. I like your solution though and appreciate the videos and the efforts on for our benefit.
Those gears should be designed as solid axles having shoulders where the wheels rest at gage, rather than having holes where the axle ends meet This way, you don't have the possibility of a short from the two axle halves meeting each other, or the possibility of a crack from the pressure fit. That's one thing I do like about model power products in H.O. scale, is the axles are one solid piece with the gear molded to it, with shoulders on each end that the wheel rests against.
@@watchtrainsnow1099 Yes I do think they are the same. Contact the seller for additional detailed information about the cracked gears problem and or research his contact information for additional information.

Plastic gears are the real problem of heavy weight hauling locos! And you overcame it !
i'm working to improve this method.
I saw a video where a guy used shrink tubing on the axles.
That might work…
Great fix, something to keep in mind. Thanks for sharing. Dave
I’m not 100% happy. I will make more videos on this topic.
Good job, very imaginative solution.
I will experiment some more, I know I can do better.
