- Here is the question all of us VELOSTER owners need to know. Will our cars tow a Uhaul trailer? Yes, yes it can. I show you here what my experience towing was like. I started with empty cargo then, I loaded my car and Uhaul trailer with most of my things. On the way to Crested Butte, I run into Hail, shorted a fuse, boiling mountain dew on the hitch, and an incline going on Kebler pass. Which, if you don't know, Kebler pass peak is 10,007 ft ( or 3050 meters ) and I started at 4300 ft. The terrain is mostly dirt on the pass and it was a little muddy. I have to say I enjoyed making this video and hope you enjoyed my little trip and the knowledge it provides. Please like the video and comment. Helps me with youtube. Have a blessed day ya'll :))
Cargo Weight:
Trailer 1320 lbs = 598 kgs
Car 3360 lbs = 1524 kgs
Tongue weight was around 140 lbs = 63 kgs

@jarednewburyvlog9973 no issues at all! The hitch installers routed the cabling up through the trunk, so heat wasn't an issue. Because of the height, I had to fix the chains from dragging a few times, but overall I was able to comfortably and (imo) safely drive the speed limit. 3/10 would not do again, but not because of the towing capability of the Veloster!
@@chrishale3747 3/10 :D lol Yea, I had to adjust the chains around 4 times since they kept dragging. I would agree though. not my favorite thing to do with the Veloster lol

mind me asking, how did you figure all the numbers, the overall weigh, like how do I know if I'm loading the trailer with the limit or not? HELP...
I kinda just guessed the weight of what I put in there. I filled it up and was hoping not to go over 2k lbs. Then I took it to a scale at a truck stop. Just know the trailer usually weighs about 850 to start.

I have a 2016 VT. I also have a motorcycle. I wish I could tow my bike around with my car when needed. Gonna have to invest in a small truck.
You can tow a motorcycle with a small trailer. I put my motorcycle in the uhual on my second trip
So i should have no problem with a small trailer a sport bike and grom

yea it would. it will haul that easily.
Any hail damage? My 2016 VT has the glass roof. And the hail here in Texas can be the size of baseballs and softballs. I even had a hail ball crash through my carport! Scares me every time hail is in the forecast.
I have some but not much. I had more hail damage over here in the springs. Which is about the same as Texas. I hate hail
The Veloster can literally do anything.
I'm hoping to do this and haul my stuff from CO to Seattle. Think it would work with the automatic 2019 base model? And cross country? Lol
To be honest. Manual transmissions are better for towing. BUT since its flat ground, i wouldnt see a problem. Just push the gas pedal like there is an egg between your foot and pedal. This september im going to be towing again. Possibly with an extra 500 lbs and see how it does.
Do you think a 2018 KIA Forte could pull that trailer ?

Yea, i can see that. Specially after this. But the turbo will spool the whole time.
Of course, you were climbing mountains and in 5th gear. If the rev is high the turbo is fly. What was your total weight back there?
I've been wanting to do this with my 16vt... is yours a nav or turbo ?
Mine is a 6 speed turbo. You can do it my friend. I know the 1st gen Velosters have a different hitch setup but, it will do the same none the less.

I would say it's doable. Just need to route the exhasut away from the hitch. I would NOT suggest doing this in snowy conditions, though. No LSD makes my car drive horrible in snow.
thanks for the reply! uhaul told me it wouldn’t be able to tow 🙄. I was going to get a 4x8 trailer like yours. i’m going to go to a different location and see if I get a different answer.

Where is Kleber Pass?
It is located on the eastern side of Crested Butte CO. and it comes out near Somerset CO. its 90% dirt and the Highest point is over 10k feet. I had to climb around 5k feet to reach the top.

You NAV should actually do it better! I have to worry about turbo spool. You will have an easier time!
