In my opinion Mexico's biggest problem is their own domestic league and the way it is set up. What other country in the world that wants to be a top team in the sport by standards of their fans and media has two league champions in a calendar year?
Liga MX's problem is splitting their seasons into two and having play-offs with one champion in December and another in May. This is part of the reason why there is so many foreigners in the league. Teams benefit financially by having play-offs because it means more money, with more money they can spend more but there is also a short window to find succes, so that causes there to arrive foreign players.
With a split season, teams only have 17 games to make the playoff. Teams would much rather buy a cheap South American player with experience. Who is going to make twice as much in Mexico than in South America and this causes there to be an influx of foreign players taking that opportunity from a young Mexican player.
It's a shame since Mexico shown flashes of excellence at the youth level in tournament's and that potential is taken away by the greediness of their own federation. The Mexican federation much rather make money than actually focus on that unlocked potential that they have shown in the youth level. That's why Mexico is constantly playing in friendlies in the US because they now they will sell out a 35,000 seat stadium for a meaningless game.
This is only one of Mexico's problem but they almost all tie into the greediness of the federation. Also, it is a shame that I have never really seen anyone in the Mexican media bring this up as an issue. They almost always say that there is too many foreigners, but they do not bring up the root of the problem or do anything to fix it. It just goes to show that the Mexican media has so much control over the league which in itself is an issue.

All major Latin American nations have traditionally split their domestic league season in two. Chile have switched to a single league competition but only since 2018. Argentina have also been experimenting with a single league competition in recent years but are yet to settle on a format. Brazil still have the low quality state championships wasting half their calendar year.
As for foreign players, they only block the first team opportunities of the less talented Mexican youth players. Spain, France, Italy, England, Germany and Portugal each have far more foreign players in their domestic leagues than Mexico and their national teams have benefitted. Their best youth players get to compete in a stronger quality league due to those foreign players raising standards.

@@sarahjessicafarter7383 exactly very rarely do you see a young Mexican player play in the first team until they reach 21 or 22 hell sometimes even later. However I think having a rule like Brazil where you can only field 3 or 4 foreigners on the pitch would work as well considering liga mx always relies on foreigners these days. I think with that we'd see some improvement maybe not to German or French level but definitely better the the current level.

    • @juicebx283
      @juicebx283 2 года назад +1

That's not important. What is important is the regulation on how many foreigners can play in a team
Tigres became a dominant team but has a lot of players who are from other countries
Teams who relied on youth like Chivas UNAM and Pachuca have struggled a bit more recently because their youth players aren't usually as good as a scouted foreigner who plays well
Teams ended up following tigres to try not making tigres the only winner and the production of youth has slowed down
For many years we've had a problem of letting go of talents too early for a quick buck
Until the rules start being put in place we won't have a strong Mexican team

One other thing I’d add to the “3 changes section” would also be something called the “20/11 rule”. Back in like the 2000s there was this rule that would mandate that players who were 20 years and 11 months old or younger get 1000 total minutes per season. This forced teams in Liga MX to play academy players. this rule when paired with the limited foreigners rule it gave senior team minutes to a bunch of young talent who became staples of the national team for years; players like Hector Moreno in Pumas, Javier Hernandez in Chivas and Andres Guardado at Atlas had their shot at the senior squad thanks to this rule. Now a days since there’s like a Academy Players league, Liga MX don’t have to do this anymore unless they can’t bring many foreigners in so they have to patch the squad with academy players out of necessity.
Wonderful video Adrian, love your content, cheers.

Money is the huge issue that surrounds the Mexican game. The talent is there but they export those players are baffling. For example Jose Juan Macias linked to bvb, but they didn’t want to spend 15-20 mil for him. And the reason is that he’s a risk and they would play a hefty amount for a unproven player. And that’s one example of the many examples Liga MX doesn’t care about the development they want money, and for a European team why pay 10-30 mil on a unproven Mexican player when they can spend less than 5 mil on a US or Canadian player and develop them. As that’s what the issues riles on. These other concaf teams caring about their youth players development and Mexico caring about the dollar.

players like tecatito, hh, and salcido grow complacent once they gain a little fame and don’t play with the same fire they once had. méxico had never been good bc of its individual players, but bc of the collective effort. we need players that are willing to die on the pitch if we wanna have a chance, and those playing in europe just haven’t shown the hunger for some time. let’s give players who are hungry and up and coming a chance!

He's exactly right. There are a few combining factors but the main one is that Mexican teams don't see exporting players at a lower cost as the most profitable route. However, if the MLS proves that selling players cheaply eventually means that European clubs will be more willing to shell out for your talent, then Liga MX teams may start trying it although business in general in Mexico is quite risk-averse. Very few people will sell a player at a low cost with the hope that 10 years from now, it'll help them sell other players at a much higher cost.

So kudos to you, I really enjoy how you play currently.
Second everything that Herc said is spot on, unfortunately our directors are more worried about the bills thatn the sporting development, even in youth teams there is still corruption till this day, I know guys who were asked ranging from 1500 to 2500 USD equivalent to debut professionaly, guys who were good but whose families didnt want to take part in that BS or guys who were very poor to cover that quota, that is also a focal point of talent loss, because sometimes the best players come from very poor backgrounds & dont have the money to "buy in". Theres a lot of mid high class guys buying in who suck but they take the spots of others who are good but cant buy in. Look for Santiago Fernandez one of the worst cases of this, guy absolutely sucked but was a pro.
Even if we work on what Herc said, which is spot on, still if our broad of directors still prioritizze $$$ over talent & development we wont reach that potential I think we have. We need to do what Herc said plus getting rid of this corrupt mafia that runs football here. Im sure Herc didnt dwelve that deep cause he is a media a guy & has to watch out what he speaks but that is also a big problem.

I've never been more aligned with Hercules thoughts as in this interview. Alot of times I'm actually opposed. But he did expand my already cumbersome thoughts on liga mx and the stupidity of the FMF. The one truth is that until the economic side of the league or national team is threatened things won't change and the key are canda and US. At some point the pressure will force them to change, but that's the problem, they wait for shit to go bad instead of trying to keep things running at a 100.

From experience they never make real changes until some outside force comes and breaks their knees( aka they see a dramatical decrease in income, shirts and games sales) majorly from extremely bad results lowering attendance at games in US soil. This led to mexico changing minimum requirements for friendly rivals in the past... ex, no more games vs guatemala and Haiti. Among other changes that always happen by force. So the key here are US based fans, until we stop showering them with dollars and ask instead for quality in return, nothing much will change, only superficial things like a new coach or new federation appointments to increase moral. Problem is that the federation uses the nostalgia of US fans willing to pay 500 for 3 tickets agaisnt B or C teams from South America or Europe. We need to vote with our dollars if we want change.

Otherwise how can you justify players warming benches in Europe coming over and starting matches? We've seen the results. This opens another2 issue. For decades the federation has been loafing around doing the bare minimum to justify regional supremacy and bringing 8n the big bucks marketing just that. Because of the general low competitiveness of the region, mexican official have been able to get away with it. Ironically us and Canada getting better and applying pressure for supremacy could change this with time if enough bad results are obtained.
