19:30 - 19:39 Actually, in the Despicable Me prequel “Minions”, it shows that the minions actually found and met Gru when he was a little kid. The minions were just looking for a master to serve, and Gru is now their master.
Despicable Me 2 is a solid sequel and manages to continue the story in an interesting way. It’s certainly worth a watch. In the other sequels, prequels and the Minion movie the ideas and jokes are running thin though.
True. IMO I'm not a huge fan of the second one either just because I found it unnecessary to give Gru a wife. What's wrong with parents who are singe by choice? I want kids one day but I have no interest in getting into a relationship to have them. But otherwise it's fine. Definitely better than 3, for whatever that's worth.

Such a great film. The first two Despicable Me was a breath of fresh air, absolutely hilarious, fun and fresh, and the film that shot Illumination to the animated studios upper rank. Sure, most of their films after would be mediocre at best, but their first try, is an absolute gem.

Anyway, the first Despicable Me is still the best in the franchise and perhaps the best Illumination film to date. It was something fresh, has some good jokes, heartwarming moments, and generally a decent animated film all around! Gru created the Minions until it was retconned in Minions, but I ignore that, since Minions is disappointing compared to Despicable Me and Despicable Me 2, and even Despicable Me 3 is a bit better than it, and this is coming from someone who liked the Minions in Despicable Me and Despicable Me 2. The Minions were never meant to be main characters, just decent/tolerable comic reliefs depending on your taste.
I agree with you about the minions. They're entertaining, but nothing really beyond that. Also, I just wanted to say I love your comments during your reactions.
I think the Minions are pretty harmless, in the context of the movie. They're just one of the working parts of the film. I think the problem that most people have is their over exposure. I kinda felt the weight of that, before I saw the actual film, too. I mean, for a time, their featurettes were mixed in with theater movie trailers, before all sorts of films. It was very hard to get away from them. For the film, though, I don't think they're too egregious. I've even grown to like them. They are a collective character, and they have good character qualities. They're loyal, compassionate, and good with children. I won't collect plushies, but they work for me.
I found some parts of "Despicable Me" to be not so "Gru-vy", (particularly the Minions). But in the end, just like Gru with the moon, it seems the film still managed to "steal" my heart.
