Fun Facts for those who don't know.
J.Cole is j-Hopes biggest influence/inspiration and muse. JHopes album "HOPE WORLD" is a play on J.Coles first album "Cole World". The BTS song "Born Singer" is also a play on J.Coles song "Born Sinner". The Avirex fit jhope is wearing is also homage to J.Cole. The street jhope was on at the beginning is the SAME EXACT street J.Cole filmed his "SIMBA" music video on. And jhope dancing during Coles verse is because jhope before BTS used to dance to J.Cole songs back in the day.. The visual easter eggs and homage paid to J.Cole in this by jhope is insane. Shows his genuine love for a GOAT like J.Cole.

The 7 members of BTS have to serve in the Korean military because it's mandatory for all able bodied men in South Korea. Jin was the first member of BTS to enlist in December and J-Hope will be the 2nd member to enlist soon. So this was his last song before he enlists in the military for 18 months.

And he’s a huge fan of jcole, this collab is like a full circle moment for him he shouts out jcole in a song called hip hop phile and they have a song called born singer that plays off jcoles born sinner. Most recently jcole and j hope met for the first time at lollapalooza.

I’m seeing J Hope fans excited he’s collabing w another favorite rapper of theirs vs Cole fans who are sleeping on J Hope. Says a lot about fans of BTS: lovers of all music/all corners of hip hop

You’d be very surprised by how educated the rappers of BTS are on American hiphop. They have a song dedicated to the people they look up to called, “Hiphop Lover” or “Hiphop Phile”. They’re both the same song but the title varies depending on the translation 😅

Hey! J Cole has been inspiring BTS since the very beginning of their career. He's not only J-Hope's idol. His lyrical flow style influenced all three of the rappers in BTS. J Cole released "Born Sinner" on June 3, 2013. Ten days later, BTS debuted to the world. In the middle of all the promotions and appearances that go along with a debut, they wrote a cover/remake of Born Sinner called "Born Singer". It was not on any album, just an unofficial song they put on Soundcloud for free, but they did perform it at their earliest concerts.
Fast forward to 2022, when BTS released an anthology of their biggest hits and favorite B-sides. The first song on that massive 3-disc collection? It was not one of the new songs on the album. It was not their best-selling song. It was not the one with the most awards. It was Born Singer. Respect for J Cole is real for BTS.

Hi, I'm a 57 year old BTS ARMY, and my husband and I are both ARMY. Your bias is J-Cole, and my bias's in BTS are RM and J-Hope equally. I love all the members, but I have a soft spot for those two. All the rap line in BTS are incredibly talented and skilled MC's. J-Hope just announced his withdrawal of his military postponement, which means he is the next member to enlist for Mandatory Military Service. So Far, JIN (Eldest member and vocalist) was the only one that enlisted on Decebmer 13, 2022. They all have to serve 18 months. J-Hope stated in a livestream with ARMY's, that this song is a gift to us, like a good bye for now, until he returns in 2025. BTS are all doing their solo projects right now before their enlistment dates.
You might want to check out some songs that pay homage to BTS's hip hop infulences, especially since their roots are HIP HOP. They debuted in 2013 as a HIP HOP Idol group in South Korea. J-Hope talked about communicating with him and appologizing for not speaking better English, and J-Cole said back to him that it's okay, his Korean isn't that good either. I know i'm one among the influx i'm sure you're seeing of bts fan commenters here haha bUT wanted to add some info myself for you/anyone scrolling the comments ! jhope is 1/3 of the rappers in bts and the main dancer, each with their own flavour and each with solo albums. jhope is a SICK freestyle dancer (see his vlives) and started in dance, and j cole has long been an idol of his (he was sooo excited to meet him first time, its sweet !) He is also about to enlist in his mandatory military service for 2 years so this song is for his fans, and also just for himself - hence the LIONS SHARE and shine he let j cole have ! J hope has said he doesn't have 'expectations' for this song, it's just something special he wanted to make for himself and as a goodbye to his fans. Korean of course makes it a bit harder to access and appreciate his rap and lyrics, but there's lots of good translators to provide context and explanation of word play and nuance, so if you are interested there's a LOT of explore between him and the other two rappers of the band ! J hope has a fun and distinctive flow i think, and maaaad charisma - see his lollapalooza stage !

The Mixtape About Nothing and More About Nothing are amazing, and I used to listen to them so much in my car, along with Cole World on CD back when it dropped 😂 so I was super happy when I discovered BTS in 2018 and found out RM (the leader and main rapper) had done a collab with Wale called Change the year before. And now J Hope has finally gotten to collab with J Cole! Beautiful to see after the many, many times J Hope has shouted out and taken inspiration from him.
