This Canadian babe fell head over feet for Alanis back in the 90's when she first emerged on the scene. In my eyes and ears she was a magical unicorn.. and well.. nothing has changed!!! She has only become more magical if you will.... 🤩🥰💖🦄🍁
Thx Britt, when Alanis released her album Jagged Little Pill in 1995 it instantly skyrocketed her to international fame from seemingly out of nowhere even tho she had already released two previous albums here in Canada. I hope that you continue on your journey with her music she is an incredible writer and storyteller.

Phenomenal song from one of my favourite female artists ever, Alanis a very intelligent clever songwriter and her lyrics are so amazing, she has a huge catalog of amazing songs, and I’m so blessed to have seen Alanis live on six occasions during her career,she was always phenomenal live, Alanis not only plays the harmonica she also plays flute piano and guitar, and has won 7 Grammy awards and a total of 38 music awards altogether, great reaction thanks 🙏

She may have actually coined the term 'friend with benefits' in this song. I had never heard the expression before when the song came out, and a trademark of her lyrics is wordplay and inventive, funny-yet-meaningful expressions. (My favorite quirky Alanis song lyrics are from 'Not the Doctor' and 'All I Really Want.')
All of the singles from this album were *massively* popular unlike most songs today can be because music is distributed less universally then. The popularity of the songs from this album actually hurt her career tremendously because her music was so good people wanted to hear it constantly, and it became so overplayed that people became intolerant of her music for a long time.
I really, really wish that younger people would look back on the music of the '60s and '90s and realize that the great artists of those decades (There are SO MANY absolute ingenius songwriters.) wrote all their own lyrics, largely without collaboration and when they did collaborate, it was with one or two people, not a dozen as is the standard practice today. That made the lyrics more organic and expressive, less paint-by-numbers. And these artists played their own instruments and mostly sang their own songs without vocal processing and without backup singers. It's such a stark contrast to what has become an assembly line production music industry. I'm sure so many talented singers today could write witty, thoughtful, even profound songs if they weren't owned by producers and made to collaborate with a dozen writers who all want a piece of the songwriting royalties and who are entirely focused on any basic, usually sexually explicit, hook that will snag people's attention.

When this album (Jagged Little Pill) was new, I bought it on cd. I love every song, especially this one. A couple of years later, I got to introduced it to my gf/wife-to-be and she felt the words was her exact feelings towards me (unconventional). It kinda became one of our songs that would always put us into a happy mood. I don't remember all of the songs at our wedding, but I believe this was one of them.
A pop singer that used a bit of yodeling (not the same as what Alanis does but ...) was Jewel.

Alanis is such a good performer! When she picked up her harmonica I immediately thought of Allison Kraus on the fiddle. You’ve listened to Allison and seemed to enjoy her sound. If you like Alanis's vocalizing, you should check out the tracks she did with the Dave Matthews Band. Specifically Spoon and Don't Drink the Water. There voices blend perfectly. It was the first time we got to meet chill Alanis after the Jagged Little Pill album

Britt another great and original artist with her style. Love the Canadians, and my favorite song by Alanis is "Uninvited" which I think would enjoy. Love the reaction. Her style reminds me a little of Delores O' Riordan (RIP) the lead singer of the Cranberries.
Alanis is such a talent. She writes and composes in such a unique manner. Most of her music is someone's favorite 90's song. I think her shiniest (not a word??) song has to be "uninvited" And I say shiny meaning the writing of the lyrics, the Music composition, and the Vocals are incredible. I hope you react to it.

I know her but never heard that song. It is great, I am with my wife for 13 years now and she loved it to, we can relate to it. I am maybe the luckyiest guy in the world but the magic is still there. Listen to her album a jagged little pill these songs you are reacting to are on there and they are more upbeat on the album. She is a rocker and it is nice to hear thses songs done like this but give the up beat Original version a chance
sounds like hers she does i see as a new age form of skatting in a way and placed rite makes a song fingerprint that cant be duplicated even if people do there songs, zepplin for instance people can sing there songs but they can never put the sounds that he adds in or to fill space like plant can its his finger print

Alanis was heavily influenced by Joni Mitchell. If you listen to her you will understand why immediately. Songs like "Help Me", "Both Sides" "Big Yellow Taxi" "Tapestry" and more.
She sang "I'm not used to liking that." She just stretched out the notes for the word "that".

"You treat me like I'm a princess... I'm not used to liking that" is the part you couldn't make out what she said. Acoustic versions like this are good for a change of pace but you should be reacting to the original recording first. It has much more power chords and drumming than this.
