Jagged little pill is a classic album, girl killed it when she dropped that.
Total classic album.
💯👏👏👏♥️
in my top 10 90's rock albums.
in my top 10 90's rock albums.
Facts
This song and album really struck a chord. People were calling radio stations wanting to know what they just heard. Alanis was 19 when she wrote and recorded this. What a stunning, earth-shaking debut.
Great album, but not her debut, she had a couple before this.
@@epkeenan Didn't know that. In wide release?
She was a teen rocker like Debby Gibsen or Tiffany who had a couple of bubblegum pop hits and albums When she was 17 then disappeared for a few years before reappearing in a new genre with jagged little pill and a totally different persona.
Dave Coulier still gross for dating a 19 year old, even if it it spawned this song. In fact, her feelings she communicates within the song are EXACTLY why 30 year old dudes should NOT date teen girls. You Oughta Know that’s a bad idea
Yeah no need to explain these mfers are in their 30’s they have heard it before
"and every time i scratch my nails down someone else's back I hope you feel it .... WELL CAN YOU FEEL IT?!?!?!" one of the best lines in music ...
She is STABBING him with every word of this song, like a dagger!!!
This entire album was so awesome!
She scares me in this song ...lol
@@allanjones1680, she was 19 year old when she wrote it. She was mad and heartbroken. I am glad she put her anger in her songs and not the person this was written about.
Uncle Joey Fd Up
@@allanjones1680 Yeah no shit.
Totally awesome.
The day that MTV debuted the video, my sons and I were absolutely mesmerized by it. Then my husband came home an hour later and said, "You wouldn't believe this amazing song I just heard on the radio." Yep, same song! Love it to this day. And this album won Grammy awards.
And shut out Mariah Carrey in doing so. Mariah was PISSED!!
I love that! I was maybe 8 years old when this came out. Even I was bowled over by it. And I certainly wasn’t grasping the themes the way an adult would. But the power was so obvious.
Linda are you from Alaska by any chance? There are a lot of Koenigs up there.
great story! and it being about this song, throroughly deserved.
Remember when this came out, and it gave so many women validation that they weren't "crazy." Authentic feelings about being hurt by someone she loved.
Y'all still crazy though lol
We don't have the luxury of hearing his side of the story.
While many of the guys those women dated were trash, the women picked them. They knew what they were getting when they said yes. They’re still crazy.
@@burgcarli929 Agreed. Maybe she was a controlling, crazy, overly emotional, bitch? Maybe they were both fucked up? It takes two to tango.
@@michaelshultz1590 There's no mention in the song about physical or verbal abuse. Sounds like he
just had enough and left. She was clearly devastated.
This entire album is gold.
I agree. I'm an Alanis fan but her subsequent albums were a steady decline in song quality. This whole album was awesome. The rest only have a few decent cherries among a thorns.
@@Nepthu hard to go uphill when you have a literal GOAT album. Jagged little pill is insanely hard to top....
She played this song on the David Letterman show in 95. The anger and energy that came off the stage during that taping could have powered a small city!
She was 17 and Dave Coulier [Uncle Joey from Full House] was in his mid thirties and they were together for 2 years. She was devastated and wrote the song as a therapy so she wouldn't be a "bunny boiler". There is nothing wrong with an age gap with adults, but when one of them is still a teen with a 15 year or so age gap, that is predatory in my book and he deserved every bit of her wrath. The line "sorry to bug you in the middle of dinner" was because she called to talk things out and he brushed her off saying - having dinner I'll call you and hung up. Nothing like a woman scorned. She wrote this at age 19 ! Album came out when she was 21 !
Some rumors say that the song is in reference to her relationship to Uncle Joey from FULL HOUSE. It has Flea (Red Hot Chili Peppers) on bass, Taylor Hawkins (Foo Fighters) on drums and Dave Navarro (Jane's Addiction) on guitar.
Hawkins was in the video and on tour with her. Different drummer that recorded on the studio album.
Oh, I understand now why I find the bass line crazy... Just one of the best bassist in the world! Thanks 😉
Matt Laug played drums on the album
Alanis was very much a bubblegum pop style singer with the big hair and the colorful outfits, but the market was already oversaturated with singers like that (Debbie Gibson and Tiffany among the most popular) and she was struggling to get noticed. Then the break up happened... and it changed everything about her. This super angry song was the result, and just the beginning.
@@isabelledrevet5913 Flea walked into the Studio, listened to the original Bass Part, and looked Alanis in the eye and said this is as bad as it could be. Luckily Alanis at 19 years of age, went then fix it, and damn he did.
Reportedly written about Dave Coulier from the 90s sitcom "Full House." She apparently did call him in the middle of dinner, etc.
Alanis!!! This album was on repeat for months in my discman!! So many hits - hand in my pocket, ironic, you learn, head over feet
It is a magnificent album, that's for sure! 😎
Mary Jane, Perfect and Your House are my faves from that album.
Head over feet was my favorite
"Uninvited" the Live version is equally as intense..a.must listen!
Yes! I love that version!!
Yessss!
It is a stunning song, especially live.
And that’s Dave Navarro on guitar and Flea (Red Hot Chili Peppers) on bass. This song is the most badass tune a lady has ever sung. Alanís is our Canadian national treasure.
And Taylor Hawkins (FOO FIGHTERS) on drums !
@@STILL-KICKIN I'm not 100% sure Taylor played on the actual studio recording but I know he was the drummer with her on tour. Either way she put together a freakin ALL STAR cast to play behind her as a teenager!
@@STILL-KICKIN Nope, Matt Laug on drums for the album, Taylor came in and did the Tour with her, as his gig with Sass Jordan, another kick ass Canadian Rocker Chick was on a break. give Sass some love, she is still incredibly balls, bluesy and powerful.
@@davidcraft8524 At the time of the making of the album, Taylor was on tour with another Kick Ass Canadian Rocker Chick Sass Jordan. When the Sass tour ended, and she took some time off, he hooked up with Alanis for her tour.
@@toddstevens13 ah ok so Taylor was only in the video and played on tour for the jagged little pill album… gotcha
Another great Canadian talent of song and lyrics unmatched.
I always say..."Canadians are the most peaceful people in the world...until we're NOT!"
Alanis Morissette is Fire! 🔥 Please listen to more of her!!! Ironic, Head Over Feet, Hand in My Pocket, Uninvited, Hands Clean. So good!
Agreed
She's actually a person. A person who's a great musician.
The entire album "Jagged Little Pill" is her masterpiece.
Asia cracked me up when she said, "You better sleep with one eye open."
I remember when this album came out and everybody was like "damn, who the hell is this? she's awesome!" The entire album rocks....good from beginning to end!
This album is so good... This hits home because when this came out I had 2 kids.. pregnant with my 3rd and my husband left me for another.... Yeah I played this song so much, but also the rest of the album.... She definitely made it from her personal pain, but also triumphs ....
Wouldn’t admit it as a teenager in the mid 90s as this was one of my sisters albums and I was mostly listening to rap at the time but pretty much everything on it is a banger..😂
My older brother is the reason I had the All Eyez on me CD and I'm the reason he had the Jagged Little Pill CD bumping in his 92 honda accord. LOL
it must feel good to let that out! lol
@@jimcarlson6157 😂😂😂
Facts
she wrote this song about Dave coulier... uncle Joey from the show “full house” ...
Can’t believe u guys haven’t gotten into Alanis. One of the best voices. Check out Thank you and Uninvited.
They're pretending, of course they know Alanis and their main songs...
I loved this album. Alanis is great.
I always thought it was about her having an abortion because he left.. The cross she bares. He should know what he left behind.
I've always loved that song, the lyrics, the melody, her voice, the guitars and especially the bass line. Thanks a lot for that reaction. Love from France 🇫🇷😘
Her voice is insane!!!!
Her song thank you, shows her vocal skills very well!!!
Every song on this album is amazing! Please react to more from it. 🎶
First time I heard this on the radio with my girlfriend - in the summer of 95' in Seattle - at the end of the song the DJ said "Well there it is folks - the feel good hit of the summer!" - we laughed our asses off! Kick-ass song.
She has an amazing catalogue. Hopefully you do a few more of her bangers.
Her acoustic performance of this song on the Howard Stern Show live is amazing. She makes you feel her pain. You guys need to react to it.
One of the best debut albums in history. So many hits.
One if the greatest albums in history. She really knocked it out the park with this record. The 90's were fkn awesome.
I heard this comment about the song once and I agree with it. Alanis pretty much unloads both barrels onto whoever it was that crushed her heart. Then she shucked the two shells, loaded 2 more, and went double barrel on him again ... and again ...
Great song, incredible artist
One of the greatest tracks of all time on so many levels, by one of the greatest artists of all time, again on so many levels. For my money _the_ greatest female artist of all time. the GOAT.
Amazing song. One of her best ❤ love you guys
Side note: her drummer back then is the current drummer for the Foo Fighters - Taylor Hawkins
Hawkins didn't record this one. He was in her video and on tour with her though.
@@scapito True - I should've clarified.
This was a defining moment in music in the 90s. A song about a scorned woman was played non-stop on the radio and in the clubs. Ladies going through breakups played it nonstop. It still stands up today. Thank you Alannis!
Love the whole album especially "Isn't it Ironic"
BJ saying, "It definitely feels like it didn't end well for her and she's bitter" - OMG I'm dying here 🤣🤣🤣! Whatever gave you that idea? 😂😂😂 - I can't, lol! Great reaction you two! 🧡
Asia pronounced her name correctly. The Jagged Little Pill album this was on was one of the best of the 90's and highest selling of the decade as well.
You two are quickly becoming my favorite reactors... so real and raw with your emotions.
Omg her voice... you need to hear her song uninvited! Its from the movie city of angels. Her vocals on that are mind blowing.
Also, fun fact... she wrote this song after her breakup with Dave Coulier ( Joey from the TV series Full House) this was one of my fav songs of the 90s. It was playing EVERYWHERE you went
Great choice of words, "very vivid", that's why there are amazing lyricists. Alanis is one of them. Her album Jagged Little Pill is a masterpiece!!!
You are both great guys!!! I just love your reactions because you are real! Take care!
What's cool about this album is that prior to this, Alanis was known as a bubblegum pop star, with several catchy little tunes aimed at the teenybopper crowd. When this single released, it shattered that image overnight. I can't recall a more effective and potent attempt by a musician to rebrand themselves. She was a serious player in the industry after Jagged Little Pill dropped.
There have been many songs about heartbreak before this, but Alanis brought raw anger that hadn't been heard from a woman.
This entire album is insanely good. There's a hidden track at the end that is hauntingly creepy and beautiful. Check it out.
This song is about actor/comedian Dave Coulie (Joey from Full House) They were together for a while before they both got famous. Both are Canadian as well.
Alanis has an amazing and unique voice! A song that really emphasizes her range is “Uninvited”. You must check it out!
Loved her in film dogma with Matt Damon,Ben Affleck, Chris tucker,Alan rickmen and Salma Hayek.
There was a hidden track on this album called Your House that is never talked about. Also check out Uninvited from her next album
Jagged Little Pill was/is an amazing album! She is fantastic live as well. That entire album has so many amazing songs on it. She has an amazing voice.
Flea on Bass and Dave Navarro on Guitar, for this song.
And Taylor Hawkins was a touring drummer of hers.
All I really want by alanis is so good!
The bass & guitar players backing her up are Flea & Dave Navarro! This song is about uncle Joey {Dave Coulier} from the 80s TV show Full House - PEACE LOVE n HIPPYNESS ✌☮
another album from this time in the 90s that just blew the F up. Another artist my friend got me into. Great record. Shes amazing as well
Saw her at The House of Blues in Chicago front row...she's amazing!!!
I saw her two days ago at Pitchfork. She hasn’t lost a step. Sounds better than ever.
I relate to this song 100% !
Awesome Song!
Awesome Reaction!
Lol one of these two were listening to the lyrics at the start at least. Thank you, put a huge grin on my face seeing a real reaction.
Jagged Little Pill is one of the the best albums from the 1990's. It's angry and it's great! If I remember correctly the guy she's singing about is Dave Coulier who played Joey on Full House.
...spectacular Alanis❤✌☝️😌Peace beautiful people
This whole cd was great. Still have it.
Ohhh🥰😘😘😘 i can listen to her every day.
My sweetie
Alanis’s Thank You is a perfect song.
This album came out my senior year ❤ what an amazing time that was!
Man, the BASS on that song! Thanks for bringin' it back!
Every single song on Jagged Little Pill is gold. Some are a bit slower paced, some are in your face like a double-barrel shotgun.
But every track is gold. Amazing album. Easily worth ponying up the dough for.
It's still such a good album!!
I'm classic rock, my ex of 25 years was country as hell...and we loved this...blew me away
Love your reaction Asia - love watching reactors hear songs I love for the first time - it’s like new again!
I've been enjoying your movie reactions on a regular basis for a long time, but so far, your music reactions are some of the best I've ever seen. Keep up the awesome work.
Oh yes!! This song says it all when it comes to cheaters for sure!! Many people have gotten thru bad divorces with this song! Thank you and Jagged Little Pill is a fantastic album!
The musicians playing on this track are Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers, Dave Navarro from Jane's Addiction(also host of ink master later on in his career), and Taylor Hawkins who would go on to become Dave Grohls drummer in The Foo Fighters.
While watching this reaction, I happened to be at a hotel with really horrible internet connection. I say that to say this... the video had to pause to load about 10 times. The facial expressions that Asia was giving BJ in this video, which happened to pause at the "right" times, was great! lol
Like most comments for this, this entire album was great. It's always been in my top 10 every since it came out. When I'm in a mood: depressed, angry, "i don't give a fuck"... many emotions... Alanis' music always "hits the spot".
I didn't know BJ is the dudes name when I first read this 😂
@@JakeStewart1343 oh my!
Great song choice and review! Another great song from Morisette is "Thank You".
Great singer, great album.
When this song first came out my initial reaction was “wow this chick is angry!” But I absolutely loved it!!
Amazing singer songwriter
PLEASE react to "Uninvited" next. It shows more of her vocal range. ❤️
"Hell has no fury like a women scorned!!"
This song gave me a voice and spine at 15 when it came out 💯
I like how her vocal has this heavy breath in it, and screech .. she's feeling this.
You won't regret listening and reacting to more of Alanis! Especially the jagged little pill album. Ironic is great!
Fun fact they say this song is about Joey from the TV Show Full House after he broke up with her she wrote this song
Thank You is one of my favorites from her.✌️😊💜
This song was written to Dave Coulier.
You may remember him as Uncle Joey on Full house...
One of THE best debut albums of ALL time
Song is supposedly about “Uncle Joey” (Dave Coulier) from “Full House”. Jagged Likely Pill was probably the biggest selling album of the 90’s. Tons of hits on that classic album. And she’s a good Canadian girl ❤️🇨🇦
This whole album was amazing. Thanks for the reaction.
*Alanis is one of the BEST! She's got a good number of great ones for you both to try.* ♥
Flea on the bass!! That is some of his best work!
Funky AF bass lines provided by Flea of the Red Hot Chilli Peppers....this CD was back when having 'hidden tracks' was a popular thing...there's an a cappella track called "Would You Forgive Me Love" after the last listed track and you had to let your CD player just play for several minutes of silence before it came on...the track wasn't mentioned on the CD anywhere..still got my copy packed up in a box somewhere, lol
she was a lot of fun to go to the movies with!!
I love her song 'Ironic'. She's a firecracker.
This album is a Broadway show now, would love to be able to see it!
Thats a good one.Thanks guy's.😃🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
Great song...and great album!! ✌❤
a beautifully dark song from one of the best albums of all time! big love to all people :)
The bass on this track is unbelievable.
I dont know how often i listened this Album 🥰😘😘😘😘
I love how raw and sensual her voice is in this song, she's mad but she's very attractive at the same time in this song if that makes sense.
