bviktor is there any way to play a PAL Xbox on an NTSC tv? I live in America but would love to have a U.K. Xbox. Also do all PAL TVS support NTSC? This was an interesting video ty for posting.
I bought UK Xbox when I lived in London (2004), I brought with me in a NTSC Country (Perú same voltage 220v as UK). The only way to watch on NTSC TV was modded it. Now I can play orginal Pal, NTSC and Burning XBOX games. In those days wasnt popular Multi-Region TV nowadays is easy to get one
I think its just the 1.6 version of the PAL xbox that this doesn't work with. The solution is to create a text file and rename it eeprom.bin then FTP that to C: on the xbox. Afterwards Enigma video switcher will work. However it makes certain games not run, such as Super Monkey Ball and Voodo Vince (PAL or NTSC) so in order to pay these you must delete the eeprom.bin you placed in C: and replace with your original/modded one and go back to standard definition. This information was like gold when I originaly tried to solve it, I came to the conclusion that its best not change resolutions really if you are using a 1.6 version (the last version) xbox. Find another model if you care that much but it makes little difference in my opinion OR buy and AV to HDMI upscaler. The only real benefit of HD is emulation and videos which my PC does better.
the audio connectors on component cables are always separated by audio and video. as you can even see on your cables. the one red and white are joined together by a slider!
I accidentally changed a setting in UnleashX and now my Xbox just lingers on the Xbox splash screen when I start it. Any idea how to fix it? I tried resetting video settings via button combo but nothing happens. It still plays games.

I want to output 480i over component. But xbmc and games launched through xbmc force 480p. my crt can't accept anything higher than 480i. Will Enigmah allow me to correct this?
daOriGinooGrapeBeer You should get a monitor capable of using 480p. But honestly, gaming on an HDTV isn't a bad solution for any console in this generation. If you really want to game specifically on CRTs I highly recommend that you skip any consumer grade ones that you could get at places such as Walmart in the 90s. These CRTs are trash and I recommend that you use a professional grade type of CRT called PVMs or BVMs. These are the real deal in CRT technology. But gaming on an HDTV will give results very similar to these professional grade PVM CRTs for the most part (Other than 480i signals and 240p mostly).

hi there.. do you need to have a hd cable connected in order for it to switch to ntsc..i have a hard modded NTSC xbox with evox dash...i dont have a HD cable yet but i use a RCA cable and when I use the enigma , it shows it as NTSC as default for me..so I exit as it says to do but when I go to the MSdash to switch to 720 , it doesnt show the hd res options...there is no option within EVOX that I could find. So is it because there is no HD CABLE attacthed ??? ..ty in advance :) Great vids Gradinkov !! ty
+Will Settle It won't force any game to do anything that doesn't already support it. Of course it will stretch out and such to adjust to the television size but only HD games will be true 480p, 720p and 1080i. Check out this wiki entry for the games with HD support! :)

JellyDrive PeanutDisk You should use the official Xbox Component cables if you can or buy good quality 3rd party ones. Flickering in 1080i is normal because it uses a technique called interlacing in order to display an image. Most HDTVs nowadays now do a process called de-interlacing to 1080i and 480i content to remove that flicker motion. If you are using an older HDTV or a CRT, then you won't be able to get rid of this flickering until you get a modern HDTV. As for 720p that is just most likely an issue with your cable.
The audio cables on component are bundled/connected together, so you actually don't need to guess which red RCA to plug in. The video RCA's are not bundled. 480p and 720p look great on an LCD, but 1080i should be reserved for CRT or Plasmas only. LCDs cannot natively display interlaced content so 1080i looks worse than 720p on an LCD. Component video is definitely a must-have upgrade for OG Xbox. :)
Shane Stacy 1080i (as well as 480i) on all HDTV's goes through a filtering process called de-interlacing that allows it to be displayed on these progressive scan only monitors. It basically converts it from 1080i to 1080p, but because it is only 1080i and also because Component cables used for HD resolutions are analog by nature; the image won't be as sharp as a true 1080p digital image. But the end result should be crisp anyways even in 480p, but nothing can beat a true digital image.
Helloz World You are correct, but LCD's have inferior quality compared to plasmas and CRTs with relation to interlaced content is what I meant because LCDs must deinterlace as you said.
i'm pulling my hair out here.. I have hardmod Evo X chip on my Xbox and i need to know HOW i can access the original dashboard so i can change the resolution to 720P or 1080. if i press MS Dashboard it just comes back to the evo x screen. And i can only change PAL to NTSC or NTSC to PAL. But i need to change the res. All other tutorials show how to change the res but i can't because i can't access the original dashboard :/
AeroFix94 ...there is a default.xbe file in the c or e partition..can't remember..i am not a my xbox atm..but if you find the right one..it will take you to the real dash...cause it sounds like your not modded to access it by default...find the right default.xbe and you will be directed prolly to almost same modded dash..THEn you can access orignal dash
Webber Mine is a softmod...it booted to a dash that was modded but not the real modded dash where i can boot to MS dash by selecting it..i had to find the right default.xbe that took me to that dash..Then I had to make a xbe shortcut maker to that xbe..then it allowed me to access my hd settings...and it saved it...loads hd by default
Sadly no, but it's easy to mod one. Just need an adapter from amazon, a 5 dollar game from amazon, and a usb. Look up tutorials on youtube. It'll take less than 30 minutes and it'll probably cost you only 20 dollars or so
alot of the after market cables are poorly insulated and have lots of interference unfortunately i just watched this video you can make your own component if you got any skills with solder
get a 2 medium to large ferrite core then coil the 3 cables ypbpr 2 to 3 times same thing for the audio it blocks rfi no need to solder most original cables have this.
thats way easier sounding lol the video i had seen pretty much just has you cut a 360 component plug and use the wire from that to just solder it on to a original xbox plug instead

Getting 6th gen games to display in better resolutions than 480i can be quite a struggle, unless you live in the US and own the Xbox. Then it's piss-easy. :P
All of the consoles in this gen (I don't know about Xbox's) have ways that you can force 480p into 480i games, but compatibility varies greatly from console to console. Gamecube can use a homebrew program called Swiss that can force a great majority of 480i games into 480p as well as even force many 4:3 games to output 16:9 instead! About half of the entire Gamecube library supports 480p. The Dreamcast can try to force 480i games into 480p by using a Codebreaker disc (which is quite rare and hard to find sadly) but this works only with around half of the game library that supports 480i only. Luckily around 75% of the whole Dreamcast catalogue supports 480p natively. The PS2 sadly isn't the best with anything 480p. In order to force 480p into 480i only games you will need to use a homebrew software called GSM. GSM can also be used to internally upscale some games into 720p or 1080i however this doesn't increase the internal resolution of games being 480 lines but it should give video a bit sharper than 480p under the right circumstances. Sadly not every game is compatible with every mode, (I have heard 1080i upscaling strangely works with more games than 480p enforcement). The most sad part though is very *very* few games on the PS2 support 480p natively. About >5% support 480p modes without any enforcement or hacks.

yes, you have to attach a HD cable to change the 480p and 720p and 1080i settings.

Will Pal games work on the original Xbox now you've switched to NTSC? Or only the ones that work on both?

Is this only for the PAL region XBox?
if you have PAL version the you need to mod it like in this video . if you gor NTSC version then all you need is an hd tv with componet cables and just hook it up
