Liza Minelli is so incredible. She was so around New York City when I was a kid.We went to see her in "The Act" and then saw her several times on the street and we'd say hello and she'd ALWAYS say "Hi,guys! What're ya doin?" My parents loved her and we did too.God Bless her talent always!
Liza, with a Z, I so loved you mama (still do), and love you too! You both have brought so much joy in be my life because of your willingness to share your gifts with the world!! I was born in 1948 so I grew up with your mom’s movies on TV and then all your shows and hers that were AWESOME! Thank you and may God bless you!
I, literally, grew up on the Liza with a Z soundtrack. The moment my mother pulled out of the driveway on her errands, I'd have that soundtrack blasting. I would perform that show over and over to my front window. I can't tell you for how many years I did that. Thank you, Ms Minnelli. You made me a star in my own mind.
I would bump into Liza at Starbucks. She was so nice. I was thinking she'd be a nightmare. Not the case. The third or fourth time we bumped into each other she said, "it's like a family here." LOVED THAT. You go Liza.
I was hanging out in the lobby of the Ziegfeld Theater in NYC in early summer 1987 at a pre-release screening of a film called "The Believers," waiting to buy popcorn. My fellow students were seated waiting for the film to start. She was dressed in black pants and a shirt and looked great. In NYC, you don't bother celebs if you run into them. But the vibe she gave off was just a genuinely nice person waiting for someone to join her.
@@patrickoconnell8847 I live on the upper west side and remember when fan girls would try to approach Elaine Stritch on the street. I was with my Mom and said Mom watch this and these two boys were falling all over her and she was moving fast she turned looked at them and said fuck off!!!! I died it was Elaine stretch perfection!!
Anyone who has any interest in sheer talent and decades of performances HAS to celebrate Ms. Minelli's artistry. Does she has Momma's technical voice talent? Maybe not, as Judy Garland was a once in a lifetime angel who enriched our lives with her "pipes". BUT, Ms. Minelli -- without question in her many stage performances -- is at the very least equal to Judy. Sheer, unquestionable joy, as Ms. Minelli has a genius for creating a narrative/character. And all of the "Minelli-community" are blessed to be nourished even to this day for all she has given us.
"Liza With a Z" came out in 1972, which was 16 years previous to this performance. It's great to see how Liza kept up her stage presence and wonderful sense of humor. All best wishes to her now in her later years. Take care of yourself, baby.
Liza is the best ever. I listen to her every day. I have also seen her in person. I liked Judy Garland, Ethel Merman - and that's about it. Oh, and Lorna also sings well. Tremendous trio, Judy, Liza, and Lorna.
I saw her 1998/1999 in Minnelli on Minnelli on Broadway. The show focuses on songs from movies directed by her father, Vincent Minnelli. Hence the title.
It Hit Me. Liza Sang this and I felt I was Watching Jimmy Durante. But I think she was 100%. But this is a Classic Jimmy Durant tune. IDK. I was just amazed at her performance
Agree totally with everyone who says you absolutely have to watch Cabaret (the movie). Liza and Joel Grey are phenomenal. However, Lesa started singing with her mother when she was just a tiny little tot. She appeared in the 2022 Oscars along with Lady Gaga. One of my favorite songs she did was “Ring Them Bells”.
I mistakenly thought this was going to be the song from the 1957 film FUNNY FACE but that song is called,”Clap Yo Hands” Kay Thompson sang it with Fred Astaire. Kay Thompson was Judy Garland’s best friend and she escorted Liza, Lorna & Joe to their mother’s funeral.
My take is different. A great friend surprised me with tickets to see her concert/show live. Okay, okay, until she gets to this number Ring Them Bells. She's in loud voice, and Halston tights, to make her legs look proportionate. She's dancing around and towards the end of the song she does a series of high kicks, high high-kicks. As a show dancer, I know how difficult it can be to do a series of those Rockette kicks. THEY have to hold on to each other, you need more air that usual. Liza with a Z does those high kicks for all she's worth, taking in extra air while simultaneously blowing out extra song. And her voice never quavers. Loud as ever. She's amazing. No extra air needed by this girl. It ain't fittin, Mammy says. It just ain't fittin. Not with me, either, Mammy. Years later, in New York, in The New York Times, it was revealed that her live Broadway performances are "helped along" with recordings played over the Sound System. It must be said that one impact Miss Minnelli had on Broadway, is that she took the standard $18.75 best orchestra seat tickets, raised them for "The Act," charging $25 per ticket. All things considered, THAT was a big jump. She sent prices for Broadway shows to a new level. I saw the show, a supper-club-on-a-boat thingy, with little scenery And Liza with no understudy (she was known to miss performances). "The Act" was all an act. For these gouged prices, the audience got ......a tape recording. Tacky. Do you think Mama's fans ever got less than authentic Judy Garland? Think again. That lady was a pro?
The inspiration for this song sounds far-fetched but a few years ago there was a story in the news about a gal who got tired of the bar scene and decided to try her luck with the online dating services instead. She started looking all the guys' photos over and suddenly hit one that really appealed to her. Not knowing where he lived - figuring he lived a thousand miles away or more - she dropped him an email outlining her interest in him. To her surprise he responded almost immediately to her. They started "chatting" electronically. She then mentioned she lived in Des Moines. Where was he located? Des Moines. Really? What side of town? West side. Me, too. Are you close to the (whatever) apartment complex? Sure am, I know right where that is. Cool! How close are you, anyway? I live there. No kidding? Wow! What building? Building B. ..........uh, me, too.........what floor? Fourth floor. You're joking! What's your apartment number? 414. I don't believe it............I'm 412! With that she knocked on the wall between the apartments. He knocked back. They then both opened the doors to the hallway and, yep, they lived right next door to each other. They had actually been living next door to each other for years but because they worked different shifts they had never even seen each other. Upshot of the email exchange was they eventually were happily married. True story.

WAS! she ain't no more!
@@darrinhauxwell5315 At least she did unlike someone whose self importance is woven into the nothingness of an obscure comment section.
Get with it...she was acting.😢

Never tire of watching Liza perform this song. Classic Liza/Kander&Ebb. Genius!
No performer can sing this style of fun songs with deep loving meaning solo! She is every Musical,Broadway show,Movie, Club act rolled into one!

What a talent! What a performer! What a gift to us! Love you, Liza! 💕

Saw her perform live; she was the most phenomenal entertainer I have ever seen!
Me too. I was out of my seat after almost every song. AMAZING.
Of course she was. She is Liza with a "Z".
Me too, she is my favorite, and I have seen her live 3, 4 times! Love her!

Masterful show drumming by a master show drummer, the late Bill LaVorgna. He was her mama's drummer too.
This hits different at 33.
Oh my she is gorgeous
I used to have this album. I played it so much that I ripped it. This is Liza at her best.
Found the sheet music! Singing this at an upcoming cabaret - so fun!

Liza Minnelli is the full package. She can literally do everything. The only person in history who could do better was her mom, lol.

If you have never seen Liza sing "Arthur in the Afternoon," do yourself a favor and search it. It is on a par with this song! ❤

Who could pretend after all this that Hollywood does not start on Broadway?
She is so like her mother on stage
🙏💚🌹
Hi KEAGAN
New York was written for her; not Frank Sinatra.....
Frank Sinatra NEVER LIVED in New York!

I think Deborah Vance's character in Hacks is inspired by Liza.

Yawn.
I've heard her do this performance way better than this.
What concert is this from?
+Jeffrey Marchetti Carnegie Hall?
Detroit, 1988, Fox Theater with Sammy Davis and Frank Sinatra
Jeffrey Marchetti
From the ultimate concert with Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr and liza
I thought it was the memorable New Orleans concert of 1981, but she did not sing this one. However she was dressed exactly the same!
