Agree with all comments - by far the best and most practical review from this camera on YT so far! Especially from someone who used both Fuji and Sony and has his focus on video ☺️
Not that I can afford or need the XH2S 😅 happy with my X-S10!
But nice to have a good filmmaking RUclipsr back to Fuji. Excited about your review for the Viltrox 13mm.

I tested mine for a few days, and Fujifilm did all I wanted. It's like a Black Magic Pocket just with Autofocus and Ibis and they both work really good.
-The IBIS is much better than on the XT4. No wobble even with a 12mm wide lens. I got the best results with the Ibis by slowing down the footage and then put a warp stabilizer in post.
-The Image Quality got even better.
-No crop in 4K60, with the Xt4 it had a 1,3 crop. I mainly Record in 4K60 and slow the footage down!
High end quality in a portable system. I also tested the A7Siii in comparison because I was not sure which camera to buy. The Autofocus is about the same on both cameras. Ibis as well but the colours from Sony are ugly and the 4k does not look as sharp as the one of the XH2s. Filming with Astia with the Xh2s in Prores looks like a high end production.

*what is better on the XH2S indeed is the low light performance and the full frame look... But the XH2S with the sigma 18-35 1.8 is unbeatable

XH2s video looks far from Blackmagic pocket. Its way too sharp and digital looking SOOC. Yes the XH2s has good specs but the look of the video is not filmic but rather videoish.

This Xh2s looks great but I'm going to keep my Sony a7 IV, for one important thing for me, with the a7 IV, I can be in full frame and switch to Aps-c, in one click!, and do a big saving on my lenses, with my Sony 24mm 1.4 GM in Full Frame, I'm in 35mm in F2 in Aps-C mode, with the same Lens :) and much less rolling shutter. It depends on each person's needs, of course! :)

'Fujifilm is more fun to shoot' Agreed! Please note that i am amateur, but i find the 'enjoyment factor' quite important. I think fuji does this realy well! I have the x100 (original) which i realy like shooting even if its considering slow. i have the x-t3 for video. i shoot 1080p 30p long GOP, 50mbits. I remember the day I found out that the focus tracking box that is so great in photo mode.. just doesn't exist in video mode on Fuji - that was the X-T3. It's disappointing to see there's still no tracking in video on a £2.5k Fuji camera in 2022. Amazing review though, thank you!

Best review so far, not only packed with a ton of good info but also knowledge from messing around with cameras from both brands.
Sony has a slightly better AF performance but Fuji is the one with a new processor and room for improvement.
About the shot at 6.2K, was that recorded using H265 and 10bit 422 into a Standard UHS II SD Card? Thought it could only be recorded at ProRes.
Sick intro btw, that bleach bypass intro reminded me of some shots from 11.22.63, great TV show.

I used Fuji cameras as my main work system for 10 years before transitioning to Sony about a year ago. The main reason was for Sony’s focus tracking in video mode which is superb. Once the bodies are set up properly and you get used to the menu system, they are fantastic work horses and just as much fun to use.

its gonna take a lot of videos from youtubers to repair the first impression that xh2s left: that video autofocus is sub-par. if they really fixed it and it looks good now, then they should not have released it when they did, because the initial reviews are not favourable in that regard.

That’s very true. I think Fuji lost a lot of sales because of that. And the worst thing is that it seems to become a trend. DJI did the same with the Mavic 3 and Autel with the Nano+… companies should stop that.

personal biggest worry is the AF that people like to criticize the most but it seems fine
biggest issue that came in my work is to shoot unlimited video instead of the 30min limit in most fuji cameras until the XH2S.
thus personally desire a Ninja V to use with my current fuji cameras instead of getting a whole new camera.
the 6k is too much for me, so maybee hopefully all fuji cameras have unlimited record time and a xt5 might be better for me assuming its normal upgrades , 4k and no need more, and the unlimited recording and cheaper than 2,500$
    any advice/feed back is welcome

My only drawback to upgrade to H2S (from XH1 :D) are the ergonomics. I hope the non S version will have the XH1 layout which is superior. Why they left out the ISO and shutter speed dial is beyond me. To which Canons did you compare this? I've seen videos where the Fuji trashed Canon R6 in AF. It even tracks a person or an animal from 50+ meter distance. Great Review!

Mannn I’m in a dilemma here. I have the xt4 and I just bought an a7iv. I really do miss the fuji colors. Even using Flog then color grading it’s way easier to grade the footage over the slog3 footage that comes out of the a7iv. The Sony comes with this orange, purplish skin tone backed in and It’s hard to get it out! The fuji has super skin tones and a more realistic overall color. I like the Sony AF and low light performance and the lens selection is crazy. I’m really considering selling my Sony and xt4 and just picking up the xh2s because the color grading on the Sony is a lot of work!

Can you make a comparison using a human subject or on a birghter light environment? It would be very impressive for fuji if those scenarios still produce a good dynamic range with still good details. I just hope this camera is not doing extreme under the hood noise reduction even when the in body noise reduction is turned off at the cost of details.

I have a question about the A7IV. Recently got it, but noticed tons of tiny white dots (zoomed in 200-300 %) for example when shooting with the lens cap on and iso over 6400. It gets more apparent at 12800 ISO. I notice these white dots on my shadows sometimes as well. Is this normal or do I have a faulty sensor? Please help!

Keep the iso lower then, it’s normal in that iso range on every camera.

Thanks a lot Pascal, as always, top quality video, very well done and very informative.
For me this camera is my savior. I’m in the Fuji system since the X=E1 and as I switched from photography to videography, I was starting to be desperate and I was more and more looking to change my whole system to Sony. At least this new camera is exactly what I dreamed off, a mini A7SIII allowing me to capitalize on all my lenses.
Will it be possible to share your recommended settings (codecs and bitrate) regarding each movie mode you use (24p, 60p, 120p, 240p) in order to have the best compromise between quality and file size ?
I personally don’t really see the advantage of not using H265 if you have a good computer for editing like a last generation MacBook.
Big thumb up for all your videos

Also one more question if I may :). When you are talking about the 55-200mm Fuji, are you referring to the "Fujifilm Xf 55-200mm F3.5-4.8" or the 50-140mm f/2.8? Thanks again for your video.

If you look on the lens in the test shot, you see the moire pattern appear on the straight lines of the rubber. Maybe you can’t see it on RUclips with the compression and in lower resolutions. Out of camera, it directly jumped into my eye.

Thanks for your video Pascal. I also purchased the X-H2S today. I have two questions if you don’t mind:
In your X-T4 video you shared that you use standard and flat profiles (C1, C2, C3 etc) of film simulations and for FLOG. However, on my camera the MY menu is grayed out. Do you know if we can set profiles on the H2S through we can quickly switch?
Similar to the question above, do you know if we can leave the settings for 4K24/60P on HVEC all intra 360 mbps, FLOG2 and for 4K120P FLOG, Long Gop 720 mbps, without having to go into the menu each time we want to switch from slow mo to normal?
    Thanks so much!

    • @pascalbasel
      @pascalbasel  2 года назад +1

Thanks. I think it’s grayed out because you have f-log or f-log2 turned on. Turn it off and you can set film simulations.
