On the FX30, I switch to auto exposure by coming out of Cine EI and going into Flexible ISO. Go back to the menu and you can press the M next to aperture and ISO to go into auto mode. I recently figured that out because I had to shoot videos for work in environments with uncontrollable lighting.
XH-2 just seems more like it matches what I'm looking for. Sony has always seemed to me like a brand that exists to appeal to, or at least attempts to appeal to a broader range of consumer/professional. Fuji seems to me like a brand that likes to focus on an artist. Someone who looks for and appreciates detail, tactile feedback, and character. Sony looks entirely too sterile imo.
You touched a good point, I always see good results with Sonys, but Fujis has something special can’t describe. Owning an X-T3 and searching for the next camera it’s difficult again 😂
@@christianwmeyer There's definitely something special about Fuji cameras. Would you still recommend buying a secondhand Fujifilm X-T3? So refreshing to find a channel like this. So many of the people I grew with in this industry have gotten away from shooting videos like this. Awesome to see someone doing this kind of stuff!
Fuji is not perfect by any means . However, it's the system I trust the most for sooc video. I shoot several semi pro teams and it's a hybrid role that includes hype videos. The turn around time has to be really fast for their social media accounts. I shoot vids in Eterna, or occasionally Velvia for some punchy saturated content, and I dont have to color grade. I can also trust their jpegs. This allows me to send goals right from the field to their social media team. I was never fully happy with my jpegs from Canon or Olympus. Another photog I shoot with has a Sony and the AF is definitely better for action BUT I dont feel like its that significant after the last firmware. I got much better results. Sony has an awesome lens lineup as well. I am always tempted to jump ship but the xh2 has done an awesome job for me this season. Ive also been shooting with heat index of 115 and have never had it overheat.
Are you still with Fuji? Any recommendations for a lens - to shot yourself and use good AF? Heard about the Sigma 18-35, but I am wary of the noises it makes for AF.
@@alexanderlucabaron it’s hard to beat the 16-50 2.8-4. Small, lightweight, weather sealed and versatile. The viltrox 13 1.4 is popular as well but I’ve never used it. Sorry not much help but for vlogging only, I like light weight and convenient. Believe it or not all my vlogging and family videos are with a GoPro.
Loving my current look, I rarely change it in real life, and modern cameras of any brand make it easy. The FX3's popularity means abundant accessories, while the variety of affordable APS-C lenses and compatibility with other Sony bodies make the FX30 a budget-friendly professional powerhouse!
Also with Slog 3 you can match any camera. If a sensor is “tac sharp” as most RUclipsrs may say you won’t get that nastalgic “look” which is actually tied to sharpness (actually a little softness?) better for skin. Arri Alexa Super 35 has that “look” Netflix approves. Now cameras are so sharp all makers are beginning to do software AI that helps with skin because the thing you don’t want is every poor jumping off the screen. One we pulled a glistening nose hair out of a Rangers nose on a History channel piece. Super 35 is good enough and in some cases superior. A reason some full frame cameras (Sony for one) offer a crop sensor mode. Then you can use economic glass options that work with native auto focus. We always love a good low light performer. Faster lenses 1.4 or 0.95 turned to 2.5 or 2.8 shall get you most of the results you are looking for. I have already tested this with a Sony 15mm 1.4 and is is a great option at an “affordable” price. Also consider vintage glass has the advantage of different coatings that shall aid in that lovely look. Add LiDAR and you can autofocus those vintage lenses. Pretty cool really.
Thank you for the detailed user experience video. I primarily use the Panasonic S5 II but bought the XT5 as a B cam. I decided to go with the XT5 because it does 90% of the XH2, and I could use SD cards. I use a speed booster and manually focus, and can change out lenses without exposing the sensor to the elements, so the XT5 has turned into my camera for when I want to swap lenses a lot. The Eterna color is so good!
@@2kstyles depends. I use the S5 when I have to use any ISO over 6400. I mainly manual focus, but in the rare case I have to use AF, I use the S5 II. I would have no problem using the XT5 exclusively for video, but I prefer the S5 II for the mic Jack, full size HDMI, and audio preamps.
Nice video. I actually shoot with a wide range of brands and happen to own the X-H2. Most of my other bodies are full frame. The X-H2 is the best crop sensor hybrid camera I have ever used. @@thefilmalliance I do not have a lot of experience with the x-h2s other shooting a couple shots and going through the menus, but the specs are great on that camera. I stay with Fuji system mainly because of nice film simulation colors and my investment in high quality Fuji lenses such as 16-55, 23 f1.4, 33 f1.4. It's not worth it to switch systems.
Your panning using the X-H2 show the same problem that I noticed in that the camera processor finds it difficult to keep up with the data from the sensor and hence produces a stuttering effect. Look at the trees in the background in the footage of the biker at the beginning of this video.
Great job on the video! Thanks for making it. I like how you really boiled it down to a simple point. That Fuji looks like an awesome hybrid system, and if you're just getting started, it's worth a serious consideration. Is it such a great camera that it would prompt existing owners of other brands to switch? Maybe not. The 8K might be tempting for some, but others might find that it doesn't add enough to their end product to justify the extra expense of not just the camera and associated lenses, but also upgrading memory cards/reader/editing rig in order to process the 8K. As for the 4K120 crop only kicking in when recording, I just got myself in the habit of recording my framing. Whether it's at the top end of my video and I have to edit it out, or just a 30 second stand-alone video, it's pretty easy to delete it. Pretty decent habit for ANY camera to be honest.

Awesome Review! For me, I Don't have any Sony cameras and lenses. Reasons why I was Hesitated to get Sony many years ago because of their Messy Menu and Color Skine Tone which I'm NOT a FAN. But I currently own Fuj XT2 with one lens. Man I just LOVE the JPEGs coming straight out of camera Image Filmic Look Quality. So I will Invest in Fuji Ecosystem. I can't imagine How GOOD filming with X-H2. Does Fuji X-H2 has Stack Sensor like its broth X-H2S?
How does the video stabilisation compare? - especially the IBIS wobble in handheld video with wide lenses, the corner wobble isn't great on the Fuji. How do they compare for walking videos?
I’ll always choose Fuji for video but I still have no need to jump from my X-T3. I’ll just wait for it to die. Just buy an adapter for the Fuji to use all your lenses
Hello dear stranger, ypu were very clear and the presentation was great and entertaining. Also the subject was very well chosen because i am currently on the market to choose a camera. My fav is x h2 and your video made me more sure i will not go wrong with it. Thank you and wish you big success in your career.
The xh2 does not have 4k 120p but the Xh2s does. It really honestly depends on what you are shooting. If you are going for more cinematic looks, I would definitely go with Fuji.
Great Video! I ended up doing into the Canon Ecosystem just because their full frame prime lenses come in very cheap so if I switch from the r10 to the R6 Mark ii I can use the same lenses even though the r10 is APSC and the R6 Mii is Full Frame
The black clips may have been due to render or managing many or high quality clips in a timeline and graphic card struggling in FCPX this happens an some times if I shut it down give it a minute then restart it works. I have had video turn partially black in the library too.
I just got a used XS10. If I keep buying lenses I just might have to get the XH2S one day…. I hear it’s that much better for video with the stacked sensor
@@thefilmalliance I like it so far. Love the colors. Most of their lens aren’t really made for video so they need to keep releasing updates. 3rd party are starting to release some good lenses. Have the Viltrox 13mm 1.4.
01:59 Pls test again, i have fw 1.00 still on the Camera and i have no crop in after Rec is pressed, the crop is applied the moment i jump out of the quick menu where i set s&q settings to 100. Also tested it in normal record mode and set the camera to 100fps (Pal Region is 25 fps ) and also the crop was aplied right after setting the fx30 to 100 fps and not after hitting the rec button. Maybe you have FW 1.01 or 1.02 on the Sony fx30? If so that could be a bug which needs to be reported. If not than you just had a user error moment with that crop in situation or did not w8 for 1-2s before hitting the rec button after setting the fps to 100 or 120 in your case. So one more point which i am able to test now, could be that this happens at 120 but not at 100 fps which also more likely is a bug than design flaw. I would be happy to get feedback if the fx 30 is on fw .00 or had an update to the latest vers. Would be nice to know.
I cropped both videos equally and then made a compound clip. The plug-in I used for the logo is motion vfx. Link in description. I was editing with fcpx
Thanks for your video ! Actually I already have a X-T3 for photography and I ´m a huge fan of the Fuji color science. for videos I hesitate between buy an Fx30 and an X-h2s I don’t know if is really worth to have two different ecosystems
Same. I was pretty keen on the FX30 until I saw some vids (including this excellent video) raving about the xH2/xH2s picture quality. The SONY autofocus is appealing but the "cinematic" Fuji picture quality and color science are a constant in all the reviews. I already have three lenses for my XT3 so that would make up for the price difference and then some. I think I just convinced myself. xH2s it is.
Most cameras. They crop when you enter a cropped mode. For example on my X-T5 it's already cropped in as soon as 4K60 mode is selected, not when you start recording
@@thefilmalliance EDit: xH2S vs ZV-E1 vs FX30 ;). The XH2 is more for photographers. Filmmakers go for XH2S because of the lower megapixel and better autofocus

@The Film Alliance Yea I got it in February, and I have a video coming out about it on Wednesday. It's weird because I think Panasonic and Fuijifilm are about to be the new Canon and Sony.
@@infantfrontender6131 but if the sensor has a fast enough readout for 8k30, downsampled or cropped 4k 120 should be theoretically possible. 8k30 requires roughly the same bitrate as 4k120. Since both need roughly 4x the bitrate of 4k30 to look good.
@@RiceCubeTech, well, another reason can be marketing. Fiji needs to sell X-H2s. I think cropped 4K 120 on X-H2 is possible because this camera has the same processor and CF Type-B slot as X-H2s. But X-H2s positioning as fastets camera and 4K 120 is just big advantage
Camera Tech is not progressing faster than computer tech😂 Maybe faster than Apple but my MSI Raider 17.0" with Intel Core i9 13th Gen 13980HX processes 8k 30 just fine. Now I got to get a gimbal that will hold this Fuji so I can use it😊

I have the fx30 and I had to spend almost 700 bucks on a card that could use the cine ei 4k 60 to its full capability . imagine how much a card that could handle 8k cost ?
Sony is more reliable and has better autofocus. + Timecode and Cine EI. Fuji only has 8K. You can do any color correction on the FX-30 to fit any look. It is strange talking about colors, if almost any modern camera film 10bit Logs. On the X-T3, I had problems with a sudden shutdown, no buttons being pressed. Only a hard reset helped. In comparison with Panasonic, Canon, or Sony, - Fuji has many times more laggy. Fuji will be good for ~1200$. Panasonic Lumix S5II will be a more interesting camera for Fuji price. But if you like it,- that's cool. It is a good camera anyway. 😉
@@thefilmalliance If you talking about picture from the box it's true. But if you use color grading or luts - you can get the same 'Eterna cinematic image". Hi Profesor, Is it worth getting the fx30 if you already have the A74? Just for the 4k 120fps?
No
i own the xh2 and i really like it but my only worried if the dynamic range of the 4k 60fps is quite poor so decided to switched to the xh2s or fx3....any advice?
Can you please share the original images you took from both canera at high resolution? In Google drive or somewhere? Or do you have a mail i can pay you a fee to download that ?
Great video ... If you find time, could you look at the lenses that work best on the XH2?
Hey Sydney, I really want to do that, although I do not own an Xh2. Maybe I will get one someday.
Excellent, thank you so much for the great quality content!
the intro is truly amazing. nice job.
Thanks, that’s very kind of you. I find Storytelling is always key to getting your video across to your audience.
I’ll always choose Fuji for video but I still have no need to jump from my X-T3. I’ll just wait for it to die. Just buy an adapter for the Fuji to use all your lenses
You are right, but do you think that it could hurt the camera?
@@thefilmalliance I doubt it would. I use an adapter so I can use my vintage canon FD lenses
Oh ok, well thats a great idea. Will def try it out sometime. Thanks
GREAT VIDEO! but why is no one talking about how cute those kittens are? D:
Haha, thanks. Yes, you are the first person to say something about them.
Hello dear stranger, ypu were very clear and the presentation was great and entertaining. Also the subject was very well chosen because i am currently on the market to choose a camera. My fav is x h2 and your video made me more sure i will not go wrong with it. Thank you and wish you big success in your career.
Can i consider this comparison even as A7Siii (since they have almost the same specs) vs xh2?
So basically If I am not already too much invested in Sony eco system I better go with Fuji?
Also does xh2 have 4k 120p?(even atleast in crop mode)
The xh2 does not have 4k 120p but the Xh2s does. It really honestly depends on what you are shooting. If you are going for more cinematic looks, I would definitely go with Fuji.
@@thefilmalliance yes mainly cinematic. Also, A little bit more photography friendly right? Given that fx30 does not have view finder
Yes, in my opinion it is. What do you think?
Great Video! I ended up doing into the Canon Ecosystem just because their full frame prime lenses come in very cheap so if I switch from the r10 to the R6 Mark ii I can use the same lenses even though the r10 is APSC and the R6 Mii is Full Frame
Thanks for sharing David. How do you like the Canon ecosystem so far?
@@thefilmalliance think it’s good, but I do think the Sony ecosystem still edges it out with catalyst browse and a few other features
Fuji needs more love in the video world. I prefer it to Sony for sure.
Yes, I have heard that also. How do you like it so far?
@@thefilmalliance I like it so far. Love the colors. Most of their lens aren’t really made for video so they need to keep releasing updates. 3rd party are starting to release some good lenses. Have the Viltrox 13mm 1.4.
Great video.
Thanks Ricky, XH2s will come in due time
Is there a sony to fuji lens adaptor?
I’m not sure, sorry
Would be nice to know.
i adore Fujifilm cameras and there colors......I forgive the odd flaw
Yes me too. It is so cinematic. And maybe their odd flaw will be fixed in the future. Do you like Fuji better than Sony?
@@thefilmalliance ever so slightly, I'd still be happy if I went with Sony.
The bloopers at the end tell me somebody needs to invest in a teleprompter... 🤣😂🤣
I know, man I’ve got to start using it again
Quick question: how did your get your logo outside the frame of the video?
I cropped both videos equally and then made a compound clip. The plug-in I used for the logo is motion vfx. Link in description. I was editing with fcpx
The cat and the FUJI X-H2 winners!
Very informative,thanks for sharing
Which camera did you end up going with?
Fx30 is 1.6 crop factor and Xh2 is 1.5 crop. Have you find any annoying things with that 0.1 extra crop or DOF issues
Would be barely noticeable.
Awesome video editing!
Thanks for your video ! Actually I already have a X-T3 for photography and I ´m a huge fan of the Fuji color science.
for videos I hesitate between buy an Fx30 and an X-h2s
I don’t know if is really worth to have two different ecosystems
Wow, that is a really hard decision. What did you decide?
I think I just convinced myself. xH2s it is.
The colors are amazing . I agree
fx30 no doubt
Which cameras DO NOT give a crop when you push record?
Most cameras. They crop when you enter a cropped mode. For example on my X-T5 it's already cropped in as soon as 4K60 mode is selected, not when you start recording
Neither. You want the x-h2s with open gate recording and 14 stops of dynamic range. It ended the A7sIII and R5C reign.
You should have used the XH2s for comparison because the autofocus is more reliable and so closer to sony
Yes, I thought about that. They only sent me the Fuji Xh2 though. Which Sony camera should I have compared it too?
@@thefilmalliance EDit: xH2S vs ZV-E1 vs FX30 ;). The XH2 is more for photographers. Filmmakers go for XH2S because of the lower megapixel and better autofocus
Oh yess, that is a great idea. Thanks man
vs ZV-E1 :)
@@thefilmalliance vs ZV-E1 (my mistake sorry)
I haven't watched it yet. You better validate my purchase.
Haha, did I?
@@thefilmalliance I can't remember lol. I bought the FX30 so probably.
Oh good haha. How do you like it so far?
@@thefilmalliance I like it a lot. i never understood how my s21 ultra had ANY disadvantage over a camera. In fact i only bought this because my phone overheats in the az sun in 2-3 minutes at 4k30 and the internet people say this won't. but now i see the ability to create images that would never be possible from a phone and i am 100 percent sipping the Kool-Aid. I'm a peak tripod, 11mm lense and a camera deep so far. my next video will be my first non cellphone video ever. it looks better than anything i've done even though i made a few color mistakes.
Thomas Larry Lewis Brenda Lewis Robert
Great video! I just switched to Sony, so I gotta give it a chance now, lol.
Hey there Mikeel. You are going to give the Fx30 a try?
@The Film Alliance Yea I got it in February, and I have a video coming out about it on Wednesday. It's weird because I think Panasonic and Fuijifilm are about to be the new Canon and Sony.
Haha, I actually thought that too. (Great minds think alike)
I run a 4090 with a ryzen 7 5800x3d and 128 gigs if ram, thats the machine you need for 8k lol
Gracias
Dude😂 XH2 does not have stacked sensor its XH2s has with 26mp NOT 40
You rather comment first before googling? It has a 40.2 sensor wdym
really odd theres no 4K 120 when theres 8k 30.
Because of the sensor. For example, X-H2s has 4K 120, and it merit of stacked sensor
Camera Tech is not progressing faster than computer tech😂
Maybe faster than Apple but my MSI Raider 17.0" with Intel Core i9 13th Gen 13980HX processes 8k 30 just fine. Now I got to get a gimbal that will hold this Fuji so I can use it😊
I can see what your saying. I believe both cameras are good for different situations. One of my go-to’s is to just dive into this stuff, figure it out, and then share it with you
Xh 2 doesnt have the stack sensor. Thats only xh2s
Thank you for clarifying
I have the fx30 and I had to spend almost 700 bucks on a card that could use the cine ei 4k 60 to its full capability . imagine how much a card that could handle 8k cost ?
Oh my goodness, I dont even want to imagine.
Great video. Earned a sub from me!
Paid promotion 😅😅..why would anyone believe u 😅😅
Dude, read the manual.
Thanks for sharing all of that. I completely understand what you are saying. Fuji is def more laggy, but I really like the cinematic look.
@@thefilmalliance If you talking about picture from the box it's true. But if you use color grading or luts - you can get the same 'Eterna cinematic image".
Stability & reliable - main thing in camera if you filming documentary, weddings, events, interviews and etc.
Spend time(money) on film set - also not good.
RED Komodo is on my personal top of unreliable cameras.
Fuji color better. Just best. But if you have time for a color correction, maybe sometimes think buy sony. For 1 videographer need 1 camera, only fuji.
Yes, it has a great cinematic look. Is it your favorite?
