I remember packing my first Strato-Cloud. I don't recall the procedure being this in-depth. Then again this a military vid, so I guess this sets a base line standard for all to follow. Good vid, brought back happy memories from another time.
My god. I can remember how tough it was getting all of the air out of the sleeping bags when trying to get them into your ruck. This would be maddening! Never knew any Riggers but when I saw one of their badges.. immediate respect.
Damn, I could not do something like that, but the upmost respect for individuals that stay focused through to protect those using the parachutes. One step done at the wrong time or losing your place, could result as the best case, a cutaway and reserve chute deployment; At the worst, a dead brother/sister. Great video!
To all those who have negative comments about this video, this a video for training of new freefall jumpers. I was a member of the team that tested the canopies that were up for the choice by the military for a new freefall canopy. You can have all your "Civilian" jumps but can you jump like they do.
@@paulmartinez9908 I was assigned to 7th Gp at the time of the test, I was SD at the time. By the end of the year I was pulled over to the Airborne Board. The winning canopy was from Pioneer, it was given the name MT1-XX 1984. I retired here in Fayetteville.
Military jumpers, unless you're talking about the pro 4 way military team the Golden Knights, military pretty much jumps so few in a year any civilian jumper with only 2 to 3 years experience will outdo any military jumper on any level be it in freefall or canopy piloting. No military jumper will do sustained 100+ jumps a year while in civilian that is considered a bit low. So can civilian jumpers jump like military? A civilian jumper will likely fly circles around a military jumper in the sky and throw in some different axis flying for good measure.
I made three jumps back in 62 and packed my own Parachute I don't remember going through that much detail. I was what was called a T-28. watching this Video is amazing.

actually a flat pack by someone without miltary overheads really only takes about the same time given two people who know what they are doing. Just takes up more space.
why? the army doesnt need to look cool and they have the space. They probably spend a lot more time on canopy inspection than the average propacker ie. they actually do some. They probably dont see the "problem" you are trying to solve for them.
@@yarpos PRO packing isn't about being cool, it's about doing what is effective and faster to get the rig packed. My unit (Im Air Force BTW) has 300 RA-1's and when we do jump trips, we pack 60-90 rigs a day, Flat packing just isn't efficient. We pack a lot of different rigs and believe me when I say you don't need a hook to pack the RA-1 like some mention. If you are a competent rigger this canopy is like any other. its just a little long, and that's why it has magnets.
@@otteroperator3822 Cool. That's better than 40 minutes. I can't remember how long it took me to pack TU-7s, Lo-Po's, and my Church Window PC back in the day. 15 minutes?

Surprised I don't see people screaming about how he's walking all over the line set in those boots. Should be barefoot or at least not step on the lines.

A case of beer for a rigger pack. Works every time. The riggers in SWC and 3rd Group were always good to us. Thanks guys.

STVG71 actually, pressing the air out of a parachute is a lot easier than with the sleeping systems

This brought back memories...graduate Sep 90 from the course.
Sep 89. Bob13. Miss it
Just started rigger net a few days ago. Thanks for the video (=
my left ear really loved this video

@@flybeep1661 haha, not true. I know they jump every week at airborne dz's. They jump more tban you think.
Interesting to see how the army packs, I used to pack one in about 15mins on average..
It's like a nice dinner - three hours of care and love to prepare and ten minutes to scoff!

Thanks! Helped me pack a surplus chute I found...
This T.H.O.T Unit about to be airborne!! Urah!

Cool video...not sure if I could have done this for a living...
Army logic: 1: Grab all your lines tight together. 2: next separate them all over the place

Army runs about 300 to 400 given they jump with an additional #140.
Great instruction. what's that background noise? Was that intentional?
Ahhh, those spaghetti puzzles after a jump.
Why do military rigs use ripcords for the main?
This is just like doing brakes on a car. I would hand the keys over and say, "Ok sweetie, let me know how the brakes work out for you".
You need to look at PRO-PACK ...... this i old school packing ... with more then 4000+ packing the PRO-PACK works ;-)
How much you think that parachute cost ?
Never piss off the cook and the guy who packs your Parachute 🪂
Gente que sofrimento pra dobrar um paraquedas, se eu levar mas que dez minutos pra dobrar esse paraquedas é porque eu estou fazendo corpo mole.
My first Square was a Para Plane in 1970. No slider. Crown lines and pilot chutes.
Yes, I remember them. We took the ropes and rings off and put sliders on them when they came on the scene. Those things were really well built.
And it deploys in two secs.
Did you get those cds
This kind of packing seems to be delibrately making the pack job as extended and as long as possible.
That's the army for ya

Do 92R pack free fall parachutes too or just static line parachutes?
Both
By the time he complete this you can go for your next jump if you Pro Pack.

Post the mc6 and t11 reserve
I have not heard of a Config Packing battalion unit.
How large is the Canopy? Square Footage please?
huge 360ft^2
WOW!
That is PRO pack. Proper Ram Air Orientation. I bike yo mean over the shoulder or over the hook pack
*I believe*
Very complex
Yes
i still use a ripcord and a pilotschut in my SABER 170 sqf, maybe i am the only one in the world in the civilain parachute world
I want to do this
Know you’re worth
Watching this, I would jump that chute.
I can't be confident jumping using a parachute I packed.
If you doubt yourself, you shouldn't jump!
Wrinkles catch air too
Jumper flying packing.
And I thought us army /air force /navy EOD school was hard. Damn
Hahaha yea this seems wayy complicated packing a chute. Better have your training in order .
Eh. It's easy to pack once you run through the sequence once.
Geesh.. What a performace.. I could pack my StratoSplat in 4 minutes in the back of a C47...!
Who up late studying?
what the name of this pack?
Pro-Pack on the ground
Nope, it's called Flat packing
Flat-pack is the name of this kind of packing 👈
Side pack just like us old farts used to.
Какой рекорд на скорость интересно
This is my paracute😍😍
Army needs to get with the times and just PRO-Pack.
Pro-Pack in the works. Coming to a Freefall section near you soon.
This is called "Pro-Pack on the ground" (Walk, Crawl, Run)
Yeahhhh... I think the canopy is a bit big to hang-pack unless you stand on a table. Which is super awkward.

And I thought you folded it up like a sleeping bag...silly me.
I still forget how to fold a shirt sometimes

He is packing it like a reserve, isn't he?
Nay, I’ll stick to pro packing.
The only way to pro pack a 400 ft canopy is to hang it from a hook, others wise youd have to be 9 ft tall.😁
Douglas Nicolier I’ve seen 370 tandems packed by girls, pro packed. Step your game up.

Army yes I am a veteran. This man I'm interested extremely hurt me trying to forgive him. God is good
Cringed every time he stepped on the lines. I know a couple of people that pack sport canopies this way.

From my point of view this is army in a pill: take something simple and complicate it. Why? Because we know better... And that's an order.
Why is us goverment coming after me with a terorist grup?
