Great video, man. I remember back when I bought my rig. You know what I was doing at home when I wasn't jumping? Packing. Over and over and over. But I didn't have a reference like this, I had to just remember what I'd been taught, and as a beginner there was always that moment when I was like, "How did that go again?" Spreading knowledge like this only promotes the sport in a positive way, especially for students. When you're at the DZ, your rigger is your definitive expert, but when you're not, you have helpful videos such as this one.
Flat Packing Part 2: so we're standing in our living room watching your video with our rigs spread out all over. Pretty frustrating at first, but thanks to your excellent instruction and narration, we've got it now. Just wanted to say "Thanks" for taking the time to make the video. Oh, don't forget to tell people to start by setting their brakes. Thanks again.
This is probably the best packing video out there. Good camera work and very well explained. I returned to the sport after a loooong layoff. We all flat packed back in the day. Upon returning to the sport, I found that pro packing is the only way it's done anymore. (90% of people didn't even know what flat packing is - LOL). Anyway, I had to get up to speed fast to spare myself any further embarrassment, and this video helped me immensely!
Congratulations, your education was the best of all I saw on youtube. I had trouble viewing the parachute on my shoulder and with his explanation, it was perfect.
Hi, This is my first comment on RUclips ever. haha. But I just want to take the time to say thank you for posting this video. Just got my A license and bought my first rig and been trying to find the best packing video on the net and I've found it! Now I'm gonna keep practicing on my packing so on my next jump I'll be more confident and just enjoy the skydive. Blue Skies!
Thanks a million. I've just bought a new ZP canopy, and couldn't bag it. I've flat packed for over 30 years, but I've been trying to learn to pro pack. I've watch loads of videos and I just couldn't quite get it until this video. Thanks again, blue skies!! BG D-9067
It was good to watch this pack video, and part 2. I am just learning to pack and it is always good to see others and how they do it. Thanks for posting.
WormHoleFusion, Thanks a bunch for the very helpful video. My wife and I have been skydiving for 20 years and originally learned to flat pack and have been doing it ever since. We've had zero cutaways and so have been apprehensive about pro-packing. However, at large boogies the flat packing takes up more mat space and we've felt like we needed to make the jump to 21st century packing. So we just spent about 4 hours watching your video over and over [out of space - see next comment]
Bit nicer learning this tucked up in bed rather than freezing cold in a hangar! Been flat packing so far but am finally on smaller chute so will be physically able to pro pack haha. The thought of learning packing all over again was a bit daunting but feel a bit better after watching this! (:
Great video man , I Just beginning to learn pack parachute and I've been struggling a lot w canopy, so much that when I've asked someone I didn't get clear instructions! Thanks a lot for this tips👍
I just received my "A" license a few hours ago. I have had so much trouble learning how to pack. I have watched at least twenty different videos and have had six different people show me six different ways to pro pack. HANDS DOWN this is the BEST video on how to PRO pack. I am so disappointed I did not find this earlier would have saved me so many issues with my JM. I have not looked yet but have you done a video on "Flat Packing"? If not it would be a God Send if you would. The way you explained this cleared up all my doubts. I have jumped my pack jobs, but have always had to ask for help. I am certain that is no longer the case. If you have not done a video on "Flat Packing" could you please. MY DZ requires fresh off "Student" status to pack the DZ rigs. So I will have need to know flat packing as well. Again THANK YOU so very much for this video it was exactly what I and every new jumper needs to see.
liloz33 I grabbed this video from my packing class back in 2012 when I was going through ASP. I'm not the guy running the class :) I pro pack both of my rigs. I haven't taken the time to learn how to flat pack yet.
I agree he did a great job explaining and showing how it's done without missing little but essential steps. The only thing he didn't show was cocking the pilot chute. Which is quite necessary.
yes they are installed on some ejection seats, the ones i pack go on hangars inside the C-17 incase they need to be used. and yes it is a single parachute with a locator beacon and some survival items installed.
Great video. Very informative. This deserves more views. Try tagging it better maybe. Just a suggestion. Hope my instructors are this informative. Thanks for posting
There were four people lift on an airplane... three parachutes.... the pilot had already jumped out.... the smartest man in the world jumped after him.... there was a young boy and an old man left.. the old man told the young boy go ahead and jump I've lived most of my life there's only one parachute left.. the young boy replied on there are two parachutes left... because the smartest man in the world just jumped out with my backpack on...lol
The dropzone only operate on weekends but the AFF courses happen every first weekend of a new month, so If I go in when the AFF isn't running, I can probably use the student rigs when they aren't in use. At the moment, I'm only 15 and the legal age with parent permission is 16, so I'm saving that 2k now for AFF. I just want to be prepared for the course. I've done 3 tandem and my only con is my arch/stabability.
Damn ... that is crazy .. something as small as that .. thanks for advice ... i will do all these thing as careful and as close to 100% perfect as i can .. when i start packing ... Thanks
i always see them packing .. cuz im learning doing AFF.. and im like O_o .. holy hell ... but i dont know if its you but this looks ALOT easier than i originally thought it woulda have been
Nice video, man. I'm planning on doing my AFF this year, so this should help a lot. Do you think if I ask the dropzone if I could practice packing some damaged student rigs, they'd let me? I am keen to give it a go.
ok I know you all chute pros and frequent skydivers know for sure this is as clear as it gets.. But after watching this, I changed my mind. What if something gets jammed up or lines get intertwine? Does the chute open up? I mean humans however perfect are prone to error right...
If you follow the general guidelines explained by the instructor in this video, are able to deploy in a stable body position and you aren't a sensory-overload candidate, there is very little that could go wrong. Equipment is as safe as it has ever been. There hasn't been a whole lot of improvements in the way of safety in the last decade because there hasn't been a driving need for it. You're correct, human error is the #1 cause of injury and fatality in skydiving. Most people that die in a skydive, die under an open and functional canopy, whether it be from a collision with another canopy, low turns resulting in high speed impact with the ground, etc. Don't let anyone tell you that skydiving is safe, because it is not. If it was safe, what fun would it be?
What could go wrong if you skip the part where you separate the A lines, B lines, etc and just go straight to rolling the nose? I did that today and my next opening was just fine
this video is very scarry for a person who (me) planning to have an AFF this summer :/ i didnt know packing process needs that much detailed attention. i barely change my blanket sheet in 20 min.
***** Some people have told me that they saved up half of the money needed for the AFF course by doing packing jobs at their drop zone. Is that really possible? I mean, who would trust a shute packed by someone who has never jumped before?
edRookNoc I see. Maybe there are different regulations where I live (Germany). But I probably just misunderstood something. Because it totally makes sense to let only experienced and trustworthy people pack your chute.
Cinescrat4D At my DZ anyone can pack, as long as they pass the test and can consistently pack safely. Actually skydiving doesn't have much bearing on your ability to safely pack a parachute. Packing at a drop zone pays very well, especially when there are a lot of tandems going on.
15:57 - WRONG -Do not pull the rubber band because you destroy it will be full of cracks not visible to the eye. You should pull the material not rubber and push the parachute inside more. Great video but a little pure quality of camera witch one shaking to much. (But I still like it)
Lmfao I was thinking the same thing and I saw this comment and couldn't stop laughing. I don't think you should trust youtube with your life, maybe just find How To's on Photoshop on how to make it look like you went sky diving.
The parachute is a 280 sq ft Performance Designs Navigator which currently retails for $2160 USD. Are you wondering about the cost of the parachute being packed in the video, or the whole system including main/reserve parachutes, container/harness/pilot chute, and AAD?

Just an FYI this is one of the best packing videos on RUclips.
Finally someone explain not only how but also why...and in such simple and straight forward way👏
Great video, man. I remember back when I bought my rig. You know what I was doing at home when I wasn't jumping? Packing. Over and over and over. This is an excellent video. The guy has laid it out very clearly and identifies issues to look out for. Awesome!
Flat Packing Part 2: so we're standing in our living room watching your video with our rigs spread out all over. After watching this video over and over and over i packed my chute on my own and guess what.... I'm alive to make this comment! thanks man!

Very good job explaining everything.......this is literally word-for-word the way I was taught. Using this video as a refresher. Awesome.
Looks like Skydive Arizona. Great place to learn. Thanks for sharing
Congratulations, your education was the best of all I saw on youtube. I had trouble viewing the parachute on my shoulder and with his explanation, it was perfect.

I haven't jumped in three years and I legit think I forgot how to pack. It's coming back to me thanks to your video 👍🏽
Really interesting and brilliantly demonstrated. Thank you.
Thank you so much for uploading! Got my A-license last year and I'm still struggling with the packing. This video really helps me when I practice!
It was good to watch this pack video, and part 2.
I am just learning to pack and it is always good to see others and how they do it.
Thanks for posting.
I had a one to one lesson with a rigger for 4 hours and still had to watch this video to refresh my mind..

I just wanted to know how a parachute works and you explained it excellently thank you
Going for my lisence in april. Start watching everyday ... Thanks for the video 🙏
Nice , Hi , Josh , he’s a great packer , been there many yrs , I’ve a few yrs packing next to him when I wasn’t maintaining the gear
Well done. Great teacher. Clearest demo and lesson I've found.
This is awesome. Thanks heaps. My chute packing was laborious. This video will definitely help :)
Great video man , I Just beginning to learn pack parachute and I've been struggling a lot w canopy, so much that when I've asked someone I didn't get clear instructions! Thanks a lot for this tips👍
Yes ..... And it's strange because part 2 is very crisp and looks great!
How satisfying is it when it's fully packed
+Mike Litoris Much satisfaction...very wow.
Best instructional video I have seen to date, great work, keep it up!
Oh wow!! I took packing class with him last week! hi josh,Thanks!!
Finally I found a good one 👏🏾 👏🏾 👏🏾 👏🏾
It relates to our DZ
Thanks for a great video !!
I have been struggling a little with packing but this has cleared up a lot :)

I have 87 jumps and this gives me the confidence to pack myself. i have had a few hard openings and understand what i did wrong.
wicked video learnt alot about the lines and canopy, thanks dude!! :)
Best packing tutorial on RUclips, Thanks man :-)
Great video. Very informative. This deserves more views. Try tagging it better maybe. Just a suggestion. Hope my instructors are this informative. Thanks for posting
Great video man! Thanks for posting. I can't really understand why people are breaking on the video but I learned a lot. Thanks.
Great video! Should make one showing how to flat pack too...
Awesome and Many Blessings sir. Thank you for blessing me and us for your knowledge and wisdom sir. Thank you.
Blessings to you as well, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Very useful video. Thank You for sharing!
Finally,well understood!
very clear explanation. is the canopy too big for the bag, though? thanks
Great video! Single wrap stow vs double wrap?
awesome video bud, thanks
I can't even put away my hammock properly without it twisting all over the place. Also, great job, but can you fold a fitted sheet?
reminds me of how I fold and pack my umbrella obsessively compulsive ... It's just a bigger umbrella, lol. I would be so good at this
Nice video, man. I'm planning on doing my AFF this year, so this should help a lot.
Do you think if I ask the dropzone if I could practice packing some damaged student rigs, they'd let me? I am keen to give it a go.
I love a good jump n i like parachuting as well...
I like you video's some time I like to learn to sky dive my friend
Great video dude.. thanks.

WormHoleFusion I really hope I won't be the sensory-overload guy :D
WormHoleFusion at least to me, skydiving is not fun because it's unsafe :).
THANK you SO, SO much for this!!!
oh man this takes forever
From 4:00 on you are basically packing your gigantic balls.
Hi, how do you call the "WARNING" label at 9:30? Can't get it...
Good video! Thanks
Great Video. Thanks.
if my parachute does not open, i will come back and dislike the video!

Thnks for the vid. what size is that parachute?...i'm working on a sabre2 150.
you can get away with just jamming everything in the tray a lot of times, but what happens on the odd occasion it didn't work
i pack BA-22 Parachutes for the airforce, im working on getting my riggers license. looks alot more simple than the shit i do.

Soo much work, why not just buy a packed on?
Can't remember the instructions..
Wow.. Didn't realize this is 10 years old...
Crazy cool
Once you have packed one a few dozen times, it is like tying your shoe laces and only takes about 5-10 minutes.
Lmfao I was thinking the same thing and I saw this comment and couldn't stop laughing. I don't think you should trust youtube with your life, maybe just find How To's on Photoshop on how to make it look like you went sky diving.
Why am I watching this? I'm not old enough to skydive nor do I have the money nor are there any good DZs nearby.
To make the next load...
Why the bag is necessary without it it would be easier
How much this parachute costs
The parachute is a 280 sq ft Performance Designs Navigator which currently retails for $2160 USD. Are you wondering about the cost of the parachute being packed in the video, or the whole system including main/reserve parachutes, container/harness/pilot chute, and AAD?
Hard opening, uneven opening resulting in off heading or line twists, line over, step through.
I always wanted to skydive but after watching this video , I change my mind .
it's so hard to watch this in a loud bar lol
Pull yourself together MAN
Size wing please
280 sq ft
Three years later, no part 2!
