  • Thank you viewers who accidentally clicked this video one million times. And a big thank you to the Tosh.0 blog, Huffington Post, Cracked.com, and other big websites who accidentally put up the wrong video on their sites and contributed to this.
    Thank you Equestria Daily for putting this up, to fellow viewers, and of course the bronies. And a big thank you to Hasbro for sending me merchandise (i.imgur.com/l8Owo.png) because of this, I cannot thank you enough. And a big big thank you to JPL for letting me tour their facility.
    NOTE: The physics in this might not be 100% correct, but this was more for fun than actual science/calculations. Also we had to give it a rating for how physically correct it was, I only used XP and RP which basically meant physics outside this universe.
    Yes, it has happened. "Physical Impossibilities in My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic." For our project, we had to find three scenes from any movie or TV show and use physics to find out if something was or wasn't possible. I got 100% on it.

      -"YaaaaaaaaS !!!"
      -"BALLZ"
      -"Haters gonna hate" (though I can agree with this one being a brony

    My only gripe about this presentation was that he forgot one of the most important properties of aviation: weight. Any flying creature could not physically fly with the full skeletal structure we Earth creatures enjoy. It's a simple theorem that states if an animal can fly, it has an extremely light bone structure, much like a bird. How this ties into the second scene: Applejack and Rainbow Dash would not have the same mass, given that the earth pony has a significantly higher weight compared to her friend's as a result of light bone structure. And coming from a student in Ag Science who remembered one of these important things, it should have been the first thing to come to mind.

    Why is this guy successful with his presentation about My Little Pony, while others are totally cringe worthy? It boils down to a few things: 1.) He doesn't take himself too seriously. He even pokes fun at himself a little (self-depreciating humor) and he's not TRYING so hard to get your approval. 2.) He has confidence when he speaks. 3.) He actually shows the audience select scenes from the show and pokes fun at them (disarming) -- He's setting the narrative by doing this, rather than letting the audience let their minds wander with preconceived ideas. 4.) He actually GIVES the audience something and doesn't TAKE anything (their time), by making it educational (takes a spin on physics) and relatable, or at the very least gets them to laugh, rather than turning it into a debate about "masculinity" (why do self-proclaimed "bronies" always do this? - Everyone sees right through the crap).
    Side note: I am NOT a brony. I'm just a dude on the internet making observations. Perhaps this will help some people from making themselves look like a dope in front of people.

    Scene1: Rainbow Dash flies quite a lot and at high speeds too, wouldn't she be "trained" to be able to withstand high G's like fighter pilots?
    Scene 2: The first explanation saying that Rainbow Dash has a lower mass might be possible. To aid in flight, Pegasi may have hollow bones like birds.

    • @Grenader1995
      @Grenader1995 10 лет назад +4

      ow, come on, she flied over the whole town and landed in the library, which is very far away from this platforms. Even if Rainbow weighted like ten times lighter than Applejack she still wouldn't be able to fly that far. Do not forget the resistance of the air. Flying ponies are not really aerodynamic.

    • @ShiroNekoDen
      @ShiroNekoDen 10 лет назад +3

      Vlad Ivanov each of the pony races have a passive racial magic earth ponies more stamina, more strength, larger mass and high endurance.
      pegasi have weight reduction magic, cloud walking and weather manipulation.
      unicorns: control all the magic but are weaker physically.
      so rainbow could have reduced her weight pre-launch in order to take off and could effectively control localised air currents. as well pegasi are the smallest ponies and would have hollow bone structures.

    • @Grenader1995
      @Grenader1995 10 лет назад +2

      white hawk The problem is: even if Rainbow had reduced her weight to weight of a small rock (like Boulder) she still wouldn't be able to fly THAT far. After all, she can be aerodynamic all she wants but she still cannot reduce resistance of the air.
      As about air currents... It would seem likely if she actually WAS in control of her flight, which she obviously wasn't.

    • @ShiroNekoDen
      @ShiroNekoDen 10 лет назад +1

      Vlad Ivanov you forget that pegasus flight is part of their passive magic as we see in twilight's kingdom once all the pegasi are drained of magic by tirek they fall to the ground

    If my video really did inspire others to make MLP presentations, I'm glad I can do that, but the thing about making a presentation and doing it right is that it requires some presenting and advocacy skills, even if it's not about MLP (I think MLP presentations are much harder because it requires more confidence and it almost immediately drops credibility depending on who you're presenting to).

    The reason RD was flung so high was because she is a Pegasus, and to be able to fly she needs light and hollow bones. Unlike AJ who is a strong work-pony, who would be very muscular and also have strong dense bone.

      @shanemoody529 9 лет назад +15

      She has a tail.

    • @sabr3cat188
      @sabr3cat188 9 лет назад

      A tail doesn't balance it out so that she has the proper aerodynamic capabilities to fly. It's just loose threads of hair that fly around everywhere. In order to get the right balance, she needs to have the wings and something that functions similar to the back wings of an airplane. As an experiment, try building a paper airplane that only consists of the front wings with nothing in the back whatsoever. (So that wouldn't include a traditional paper airplane)

    • @shanemoody529
      @shanemoody529 9 лет назад +2

      Sabre Cat I understand that her tail would not allow her to fly, I was just correcting your statement that she didn't have a tail at all.
      and we all know that without equestrian magic, pegasi cannot fly, so we can just chalk up her ability to fly to the wonders of children's television.

    The problem with number three is that that is the force required to stop the pony from accelerating. To find the actual acceleration and force, the acceleration would be the velocity change over time, so the instant she hits the butterfly’s to the second she stops, would be the divisor of the velocity at that moment, making a much greater force

    3:05) if RD accelerates from rest to 1635.31m/s in 15 seconds, then she was going at an average of 817.7 m/s for those 15 seconds, which places cloudsdale at over 12 kilometers in the sky. Most commercial airplanes only go to 10.5 km, which is far above how high a city on clouds would be.
    Assuming pony terminal velocity is close to human terminal velocity (250 km/h) or (70 m/s), RD has 3 minutes before a fall from 12 km would hit the ground, yet it only takes a time of 15 seconds for this to happen.
    Ignoring rainbow mach cone ponies that accelerate too fast, a reasonable estimate for the elevation of cloudsdale given a 20 second fall of Rarity at 9.8 m/s^2 until terminal velocity would be (70 m/s * 13s) + (70-0)/2 m/s * 7 s = 910m+245m = 1155 m

    I actually assumed that pegasi would have a lighter mass than Unicorns or Earth ponies if they are to fly. Like birds, pegasi would have to have a lighter mass for their wings to carry them in air. Earth ponies, especially Applejack, would have a greater mass, assuming how buff they are.

      I know this was a year ago, but if u hate brownies, u need help, hating them cuz they like a Fucking tv show. If u hate one specific person or 2 and they're bronies, if it's not because of the show, that's fine otherwise, you're just a richard that hates anyone with a slightly different opinion fr yours.

    "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. If you have something really stupid and bigoted to say, please say it so people will see how terrible you are"
    I have something to say, though I dunno if it's nice or not, but whatever: I think we all should just stop looking for the faults in a show or something of the sort and not be like Grammar Nazis so that we can just enjoy it.

    >This guy is not autistic and is not socially awkward

      Björn Gunnarson being a brony has nothing to do with being a pedo, we just enjoy a good show, actually watch a good amount of episodes before you judge it, but no you wont because you let fox news and other conservative media poison your opinion. i pity you, i really do so caught up in old and outdated modes of thought like a guy can't like girls stuff or girls can't like guy stuff. you are the one who needs to grow up, oh and so you know mlp fim was made with all audiences in mind like disney cartoons and walt disney said "If you only aim cartoons at kids, you are dead inside. adults are only kids grown up anyway.
