It's extremely irritating that so many bronies can't explain why they like the show, and we end up just looking like weirdos who like a show for little girls. The show is not just rainbows, friendship, and pixie dust. It's genuinely well written. The plots for the episodes are logical and unpredictable. Characters are realistic and relatable. It takes place in a genuinely interesting and unique fantasy universe. And it has a sense of humor that really catches you off guard.

    • @czykndnature

I feel irritated that the culture of the United States tends to ask (if not require, demand, or bully to obtain) explication of our affection and identification with positive things when such fondness and abstract thought occurs so naturally with humans, yet the immature, bootstrapping productivity-obsessed self-righteous greedy me-first national character in much of the Americas denies this arguably finest aspect of our species. Conservatives demand evidence and empirical support for innocuous affinities yet resist inoculation scientifically proven to promote better public health.

Shows for kids often have some appealing content for high schoolers, college kids, and adults. MLP is one of those shows that has moments adults can enjoy. It’s honestly more of a family show than just a kid show. And if the show is actually well written, then why can’t older people enjoy it?
The only issue is some of the creepy content people make, but just keep those in spaces for older audiences.

when i was in school, there was a boy who liked MLP. it was 6th grade or so. i remember hearing other boy criticizing him for it, like "it's not normal, you shouldn't be going around and saying you like this cartoon", and he argued back that it's just a cartoon and it doesn't matter that he likes it, he just doesn't see a point at hiding it. i approached him and asked "you like mlp?" and he looked so fed up with this. he thought i'm going to be another one to say that it's weird, so he made a very proud looking face, like he was getting ready to hear something unpleasant, and just calmly confirmed "yes". and then, to his surprise, i said that i like it too. that's how i met my best friend.

*APPLEJACK* - She criticize but at the same time empathize with her friends.
*RAINBOWDASH* - She brings confidence on her friends and you can count on her for anything
*PINKIEPIE* - Pinkamena Diane Pie brings a "smile" to everyponies face. She is sweet as pie like her name suggest.
*FLUTTERSHY* - She is flexible for her friends. She has a commanding personality if needed to.

@@theAstarrr I agree, Your right shows can have great lessons and people can improve tremendiosly from them. Fight Club for instance changed my life and how I view society. Shows, movies, books there all a form of art. A different perspective of the world. Which can be great for food for thought and as a catalyst for change but it isn't change itself. But there are so many good shows out there, The Americans, Band of Brothers, Boardwalk empire, Better Call saul, Breaking bad, Deadwood, The wire, Sopranos, Firefly, GOT, Hannibal, Peaky blinders. The list really goes on and on. So why would people choose to watch a show that excludes reality to such a great degree rather than one that eplores human nature in an accurate way. And I suppose that leads me to my most important point which is adopting one show as an identity is absurd, It doesn't matter what it is no one show should have this much influence on anyone. It makes me happy and helps me to view the world in a brighter light and with more hope, and I truly tried to take each lesson to heart. I want to spread the same happiness and love the characters in the show do. It may be difficult for outsiders to understand why people like it, but it’s harmless and wholesome for the most part. I’d never try to convince someone to like it since even my parents dislike it and I understand it’s something you kinda have to have a taste for, but in any case, it’s always wrong to generalize any group of people or make fun of or hate someone for any difference

As an Australian author, when MLP came out the wave of popularity caused me to grow tired to hear the title in my teens. Last year however, It appeared on Netflix, and decided to give it a go as I was older and felt inside there was a deep message, a purpose that can expand to the possibility of a musical given personal stage experience. From episode one I was hooked aged 25, and binged all the seasons 5 times. This lead me to the channel Scribbler Productions that appeared here in YT, followed by The Lost Narrator.
Now I write MLP fan fictions, disregarding what is held against us because how it's seen at a first impression. Those people have no clue what message this story convey's, age and gender doesn't matter. We all have hearts as strong as horses, nothing and nobody will tell us otherwise. Brony's forever, hoof to heart.

I’m only 2 minutes in but must admit I’ve adored the newest iteration of my little pony a LOT. I am musically inclined so the songs are excessively catchy and the storylines really do essentially teach good morals in the end, while providing a compelling storyline that uses the same sort of drama and resolution any ‘real life’ drama show uses in a far more tame way to teach some truly real life lessons of friendship. Of course it looks odd and silly but if you’re LOOKING for something you find it in your own mind as an adult who may have/has been in uncomfortable scenarios as young/adolescent kids. It’s an open mind with room to grow that can see these morals as what they’re actually meant to portray I think

I got into this show after watching this documentary and watching a compilation video of the songs. Pinkie’s ‘smile’ song got me through a car accident I had 5 years ago. I crashed and and totaled my car, I only had a scratch over my eyebrow and some soreness in my chest from the impact of the airbag but I was still scared. After the paramedics took me to the hospital and sat me in the emergency room all through my head I was thinking of pinkie’s ‘smile’ song to get me through the whole ordeal. I was so scared I thought I was gonna die or I had internal bleeding but I just played that song in my head and it calmed me down.

I used to watch the show when it first came out. My sister was the one that first introduced me to it and I actually enjoyed it. Back then, I would consider myself as brony curious. However, somewhere in the middle, I stopped watching it altogether because of all the stereotypes I've heard about Bronies. Them being middle age weirdos and potential pedophiles. I didn't want to be like them so that's why stopped watching it and kinda looked down on it for a while. It wasn't until I met my best friend of four years now, who loves the show a lot, that reintroduced me to it. I was a bit skeptical at first but overtime, I realized you can still be a fan of the show without being a brony. I don't really consider myself a brony, just a casual fan of the show. Or, I guess, a casual brony maybe. I also realized that not all bronies are the stereotypical middle aged weirdos people describe them to be. They range from different ages and genders. Loyal fans who are very dedicated to the show and are also super creative because of it. It's just a shame that it's looked down upon, even to this day. All because of a few bad apples that gave the rest of the fandom a bad name. That and the shallow society we live in that's so cold and close minded. Despite that though, this documentary, especially my best friend, help me see the light. Thanks to them, I now have a newfound respect for the show and the fandom

3 Likes the show, even if only little bit
For girls and women, I would prefer the term Pegasister though.

Girls can like boy things so what’s wrong with a boy wanting to watch something meant for girls”. When I first saw it on “discovery family” I immediately started to like it but I was self conscious about watching it with my family home so I would set the new episodes to record and whenever they would leave and it would just be me and my grandma or aunt I would watch it. Towards 2010 and 2011 my dad found out I liked my little pony and surprisingly he was okay with it because he knew it was something I really liked he even started watching the show with me and then he started to like it. Around my birthday in 2011 my dad actually got me a twilight sparkle and pinkie pie plush (but he gave it to me in private) but around 2019 I told my friends I was a brony and they were okay with it well technically some of them didn’t care but they were still friends with me despite me being a brony. we need to focus on what is the now; keep making this community a safer place for everyone (especially the marginalized groups that were pushed out) and keep promoting the fantastic creatives (artists, musicians, animators etc.) that we still have. vylet pony's commercial success with her CUTIEMARKS singles and attendance numbers at MLP cons still remaining strong is proof that we have every means to still be thriving.

Then I remembered it one day in the summer and watched it again. It was a very fun experience. Soon enough, I became obsessed with Equestria Girls and began to watch all the specials until there was no more content to comsume.
After I got done, I started watching MLP: FIM, and I gotta say, it was an absolute blast to watch, and pretty much what made the summer of last year even more fun. I was absolutely obsessed with this show! I watched the fandom pieces (Including old ones that I've seen before.) I read the comics. Got into the lore, and even found some awesome youtubes like Jaxblade and ACracebest! Plus, the show is the absolute embodiment of positivty. I couldn't go through one episode with smiling or giggling! No joke, MLP is the exact reason I regained my passion for writing! It sparked so much creativity in me! That's exactly why I'll always love this show, no matter how old I get.

I feel like hating on someone else’s likes is kinda wrong. I was once a hater, but now I’ve realized the truth. We all have something to hate. And it’s normal to hate things, but nobody should take it overboard. In my opinion, I don’t mind fandoms like this anymore. Because we are all human. We may be weird at times, but that’s what makes us beautiful and stand out from the crowd of normality. If you like MLP, go ahead and like it. It’s what your interested in, And most importantly it makes you happy. 🙂👍

I got bad info, when I first heard about bronies. I was told they were middle aged, creepy, perverts that are into pony porn. And I thought, "Whatever floats their boats. As long as they're not hurting anyone." But the more I learned about furry culture, which a lot of ppl think of furrys as pervs, the more I realized that most bronies are probably just innocent fans of the show. There are those that have adult interests in the ponies, but most probably don't. I'm a grown woman and still watch SpongeBob, but that doesn't mean I want to see SpongeBob on Skinemax, lol. I support these guys. I'm glad that something can brighten their days, and I'm glad that demographic barriers are coming down and our society is becoming less pressuring on men, as time goes on. I'm glad that ppl are getting to a point that they can feel more comfortable in their own skin, and surround themselves with like minded individuals.

You mostly didn't get bad info, if anything I'm afraid this documentary is bad info and they are lying to you. The thing is the show - at least the first two seasons - is fantastic; emotionally compelling and very funny characters mixed with a pleasant classical European whimsy and it would not have been the success it was without these elements. All of this shows accolades are well deserved and Faust should be commended for her artistry and ability to manage team which produced something so great, but a big reason this show is so successful with a teenage to adult male demographic is that they do experience some kind of attraction to the characters and they are compelled to keep watching partly because of this attraction - simply put they fall in love. I've been in this community for 7 years and everywhere I go there is porn being shared in some capacity minus the websites that strictly do not allow that kind of content (MLP forums for example). More than half the threads at any given time on the /mlp/ 4chan board (arguably the most popular social hub of the fandom) are sexual in nature and continue to be to this day, EQD (the biggest pony news website) started introducing saucy art compilations after they noticed interest waning a few years ago where as before they had a strict family friendly policy, there are over 600k of unique explicit images that have been uploaded to Derpibooru - the number one pony artwork hub - and that's only one image hosting website. Twitter is still a hot bed for explicit pony art as was tumblr back in the day, hundreds or possibly thousands of Discord and Skype servers with little side-rooms for NSFW artwork, cons which result in backdoor secretive NSFW vendor halls often in hotel rooms after hours, some actually recognized by the con in specially designated zones. This stuff is and has been so consistently ever present and pervasive that there's no way it can be explained by some small sexually deviant minority.
I think the people who made this documentary had an interest in presenting the male side of the fandom as not being motivated by some degree of sexual desire as a reputational buff - it looks bad - but there is no question that they are downplaying the sexual nature of the fandom hard.

I think it depends where you look. (In the fandom for 9 years btw, just to declare my interest). There _is_ a lot of NSFW art around, but it's by no means everywhere and it's not especially difficult to avoid it. I don't really agree with hyperreality that 4chan is a big social hub anymore. It's not as influential in the fandom now as it used to be, though certainly it's not gone away. But it's like any other big fandom now, really: there are the SFW bits, the NSFW bits, the nice people, the dodgy people, etc etc etc. The average age has gone up from the early days: I'm over 40 and I'm not that unusual. There's also more appreciation of the earlier generations of MLP (right back to the 1980s) than there was. Is it a perfect fandom? No. Am I comfortable here? Yes.

@@Loganberrybunny I'd have to push back a little bit Logan; 4chan is certainly one of the largest social hubs. Where else am I going to go for high volume and frequent pony content centered around topic creation/discussion and community building if not reddit or 4chan? That being said I do agree 4chan is not as influential as it once was - partly due to decreased interest in pony in general - but I think another important cause you must account for is increased political aggressiveness we've seen over the last 10 years. People don't like 4chan because they are more right-wing than essentially all other places in the fandom. Leftists are disincentivized to reciprocate with them because of the way they enforce social consequences within their own circles and so 4chans influence is greatly limited despite their size.
I think everything else you've said is correct.

@@hyperreality753 That's fair; I should really have said "...that 4chan is _quite such_ a big social hub anymore" since you're right that it's still substantial. It's been a while since we saw things like Lauren Faust going on there to answer questions, but sure it's not exactly empty. On the politics, it's not easy for me to comment sensibly, since I'm British and some aspects of US and European (even UK) politics are very different indeed.

Wasn’t into MLP until 2015 when Season 5 was still fairly new. Then I discovered Equestria Girls in the process and was hooked since. I’m aware there are sites that sexualize the characters in provocative ways and distance myself completely from it. To this day after the show ended in 2019 and seeing this documentary, these people all come from different walks of life. They seem misunderstood. Lauren Faust provided us a box, the fandom opened it for us, and the rest is history!
