This is truly insane! If i saw a remake looking this good, - i would probably faint on the spot. Back in 1998, Unreal made a lot of noise and headlines - yet eventually everything fell short of expectations. This here, could be the light at the end of the tunnel, which would finally do the Unreal campaign (including the bravado slogans and the fancy box) - a long deserved justice.
Oh man, nostalgia hits hard on that one. Still I remember being 16 years old, eating pancakes, and don't having any bigger life problems. Every Unreal level was something new. Still remember how much fun gave fighting Skaarj and their ways of evading projectiles or how Na Pali haven blew up my mind with floating islands. That was something out of this world. Thanks Ludvik for your work!
Saying thank you is not enough. This video is a dream come true for us who loved that sudden change of atmosphere, that new world appearing at once. And the music. That music! Excellent work, excellent idea.
I remember my feelings first time I got out of crumbling Vortex Rikers vessel. I was standing there in awe and astonishment looking around myself. What a contrast between sultry and blood-soaked premises of the ship and this vast and breathtaking vista. And this kind of graphics would make this immersion even more convincing. Hail to potential remake!

Very cool. Really great work. Especially, I like Vortex Rikers. IMO, original Unreal nature was more jungle-like and exotic (unreal). This one looks quite midlatitudes. That a little broke my expectations. I believe for total remake one should make templates for unreal plants. No matter what I said :), really good work. Thanks.
Ever since the announcement of Black Mesa Source, the remake of Half Life 1 (which also released in 1998).. I've been hoping for an UNREAL GOLD remake also. This youtube video is the best example of that so far. Whoever made this map, please make a few others!! Like the Castle map used for the game menu. Also spire + skytown would be cool.
Absolutely amazing. I would make the environment a little more true to the game though (more alien world like, glowing water etc) This game needs a remake. This game was so visually impressive for the time and when combined with the music the atmosphere was top notch.
The Movement of the Trees are way to hard.. need a little bit lesser then this. but all in all, this is a BEAST graphic ;) nice can i ask you how you made this ? you write you use unreal and rendered with corona ?! do you have export anything from UE to 3ds max and render it there or do you build your stuff in 3ds max put it in ue4, build your level/scene and render it for the ActionScene ?
I keep coming back to this video, and this video and the original game really make me want to pick up learning Unreal Engine again to make a playable level.
Making Unreal based game in Unreal Engine is actually quite trivial, but unfortunately it's mostly the assets that take a lot of time. There's only so far one can get with pre-made assets from marketplace or somewhere else, but big portion of it still has to be custom made to meet the vision. I've seen quite a few other NyLeve remakes, which were in realtime, but they all struggled with quality mainly due to lack of assets, or using assets that just did not fit together. I think I could make the first level in about a month, and then, once workflow and tooling is in place I could probably remake the whole game in UE4 in about a year, but unfortunately there's no point in doing so, because it'd pay me nothing, and in the end I would not be able to release it anyway, because it's Epic's intellectual property. :)
@@LudvikKoutnyArt I started on the first 2 levels back when UT2K4 came out but school got in the way. I tried again about 2 years ago but quickly gave up because of what you just mentioned with asset creation etc to actually fit the environment, it's a ton of work for just one person, and way too much for me. So I again canned it. And yea the property thing s a bit of a bummer. I remember a Halo project that was being made and bungie gave it the ok because everything was created from scratch, even though it all looked identical to Halo. Can't see Epic doing anything like that these days. I miss when Epic made great games. Thanks for the reply. I still think Unreal has one of the best and most captivating environments and your work really captures that.

Looks really good, this is most realistic render I ever seen! Everything looks very real, both nature and ship, like I'm watching real video not render, this is actually gives idea how these boxy locations from Unreal would look if they existed in reality. Also about Unreal overall, for Unreal Tournament was recently released single-player mod named Project Xenome : Interloper, I suggest try it out, I can surely say it one of the best single-player mods for UT, with astonishing mapping design.
Oh my god. That's a spectacular visualisation of a Live Action version of the intro map! I was skeptical at first, thought maybe the foliage was a touch too dense just outside the ship (should've been a clearing?), but as the view unfurled I realised it didn't detract from the overall mood. It **feels** like the same level somehow! I don't know how you created that great illusion, but it works. All that's left is to figure out what the Nali Rabbits/Nali/shark/Brutes would look like. And maybe perhaps the player. (Dante?)
Excellent stuff. I saw the comments that say that the plants are not tropical as they were in the original, but then one thing comes to my mind: Maybe the real reason that developers back then used palm trees and not 'ordinary' trees was because they were easier to render for the engine as they required less polygons for their leafs, when comparing to the hundreds of leafs in 'ordinary' trees. Think about it.
My skin crawled. I guessed this moment from the first second... One small but important detail is missing: when you look at the sky, there is no soaring bird.
