It's hard to describe the energy coming from him, but I love it.
10 years later after posting this video, youre still saving major headaches for many people. thanks!
Make sure prior to starting: Have vehicle in the neutral position. I made the mistake of removing the shifter while in gear. I had to use two 'flatheads' to put the transmission in neutral because I could not go into gear once I reinstalled. The push rods should be parallel to each other. I hope this helps someone and thanks to the OP for the awesome video!
yep, helped me thanks!!!
yo.... that comment, they have to be parallel and two screw drivers helped me a lot.... went out there and POP. in neutral... thank you, thank you, thank you.
Glad it helped. Take care.

Roger that dude I probably would of done the same thing man wow that would cost ya! lol thank you!
I just did this job based on your video, and the link to get the parts. It worked perfectly! You saved me a whole bunch of money. Great job, Sir.
Probably the most kickass shift knob idea ever thought of! Love it.
this was extremely helpful. i just purchased a mazda b2300 and the shift was very loose, and your video was so clear i had no trouble. Thank you very much sir.
REGARDING THOSE PINS. You literally have to bang them out. With what and how I'll leave up to your imagination. On my '98 Ford Ranger it was NOT FUN and required much more work than I thought, but they came out eventually. Also, for reasons unknown, sometimes the new pins will simply slide in with no resistance; if this is your case, switch the pins around and/or rotate them before inserting (don't know why it works, but it did for me). My Ranger reaches 200K miles this year, and I'm hoping to get a few more!
Thank you for making a quick, easy to follow the video just showing what needs to be done
Thanks bro, my Ranger had the same problem, my passenger-side pin was worn down to a chisel-type point. This video helped make the fix easy, appreciate it
Oh my God you rock dude, the first you to video where somebody just shows you what you need to do and that's it, you are amazing thumbs up thumbs up.
i had to remove the shifter inorder to drop my transmission in my driveway today to change out a broken slave cylinder. this helped me get there, thank you
Thank you for taking time to upload this. I needed to remove the stick shift on a 99 Ranger and could not figure out how to do it. I had all the information I needed from your video by 0:36! Again, thanks! I am quite sure I was about to break something.
I really thought my clutch was out!!! Thanks for the video it saved me lots of money!!
just did this to my 96 b2300...took 15 min and it's like driving a new truck
Been trying to fix my truck for over 4 months and did not know how to fix it. now i do thanks.
@Mike S I used a center punch ad hammer. Was very easy to push them thru
Very good video. Not sure if you're aware (I wasn't until I saw this), but this shifter, and its rebuild kit & procedure, are remarkably similar to the 1st & 2nd generation (NA & NB, 1990-2004) MX-5 Miata 5-spd shifters.
This was a very helpful video, I have a 94 ranger and it worked almost exactly the same.
Did you buy the same kit? We need to do this for our 94 ranger.
just did my 92 ranger from ur video. I would have screwed it up otherwise. thanks for posting!!!
Props for the one handed repair and love the shift knob 😂😎
Yeah I just caught that ! lol
Dude, thank you! You got right to the point and it was entertaining!
@Steffen Albright glad I could help
@Woodrow Ellenburg sweet glad I helped you out
@FSBARAK Just used a punch and a hammer. They aren't pressed in very tight. The kind of punch I used was about 1/4" round at the tip. Just took a few taps.
Awesome 👍💯
Thank you so much for this video it helped out a bunch.
@realbadexample Yea alittle i had to learn how to angle the shifter just right cause with the right side pin broke it wanted to twist and get caught up in the trans so it wouldnt smoothly shift. After changing the pins and lower plastic cam thing it was smmmoooooth
Thumbs up, but all those broken pieces are in your transmission now
Thanks for your video it helped me but now I’m having a slight problem getting my gears to change ? Did not have it in neutral to begin with what do I do now ?
@David Paugh The kit I bought was for a ford ranger. Ford rangers and Mazda b2300 are very similar. This is only for the round body rangers. Older rangers I have no clue. I only know for the Mazda b2300 I had.
need to change mine too and whit your video, i'm already riding my ford in full motion
Thank's for the video, it really helped!
Seriously? You left out removal of the pins... Removal of the pins... Round peg round hole - got that part... How about show/tell how to get the pins out?
@cmlbeatlefreak Which screws? Everything on mine was very easy
Very helpful. One question, though. How did you get the pins out? I am about to do this on my daughters truck and those pins look like a pain.
great video!!! were you having problems shifting before this swap? Did this fix the problem?
@Roy Cruz Just get a screw driver and pull the deal forward. Then it'll be in neutral
awesome video I just did mine on a 92 ranger 2x4 had so much slop I'd go for 3rd and hit first again pins were hard to get out but I did it
May I ask how you got the pins out?
Chris Shutters The way i did it was i used a center punch and and hammer and tapped them out till they clear
this video helped alot!!! thanks man
Super helpful, thanks dude!
Thanks. I used a ball joint puller to get it out. It was really stuck. I just ordered the same kit you did since I also have the same issues. What year is your B2300?
@jonaskey very welcome
@keepback10feet Very welcome sir
@michael myers Very welcome
well im tackling this lil project today, my shifter is quite loose. My buddy went to start my truck the other day and thought it was in neutral and almost sent it out through my garage ! haha.
how did you manage to adapt the longboard wheel?
great work
Center punch and hammer. All you have to do is tap them from inside out. Beat the hell out of em
@Homie0809 Glad I could help. :-)
I have a question. I have a 1998 ford courier, it was working fine, then it was stuck in second gear, it will only go into fifth and reverse, but wont line up to go in first second third or fourth, when in reverse it wont move, light comes on but it beats down and loses power, clutch engages, it will drive in second gear but wont go forward in fifth nor move in reverse. What do you think is the problem?
@bdiesslin very welcome
Thanks for share. Good vídeo!!!
@cmlbeatlefreak The kit is linked in the description
@r0ckworthy You MUST pull the shifter out put it in neutral then reinstall the shifter. Theres no other way
Alright thanks. I didn't wanna remove the pins if they're hard to get back in. That area is set in deeper so I wasn't sure if I needed a whole bunch of space.
@AmericanThunder Yes it does. Your point?
The kit comes with one wavy washer because I believe you are to use the one that's already at the bottom... I've seen kits with two wavy washers. So leave the factory one in just place the bottom rubber bushing on top of it and follow the rest of the instructions on this video
Thanks for the video 😊
@greener99 Very welcome
@itchie0680 Yes sir. It should fit a lot of different fords and mazdas
Would this possibly cause the truck to be hard to shift into gear? Had the clutch and slave changed not too long ago, hard to believe that's the issue, replaced the master myself. Power bled the whole system yesterday, still having issues. Thks.
@adp0114 I have no idea. But if the transmissions are the same it should
OMG me too!!! Please tell me how you fixed this problem. I put mine into reverse to give myself more room to remove the stupid tapered bolt, then pulled out the shift lever while it was still in reverse. Now I can't shift into any gears either just like you. If you have already corrected this problem, can you tell me how you did it? Thanks a bunch.
Are they much easier to install? Thanks
Does this happen to work on all b series or just the 2300
Nice one. Pretty much what i have to do
I'm replacing the clutch on my B2300 and I'm stuck at this stage. I don't have a nut on mine and it looks like it was really shoved in there. What size was yours? I can't make it out.
Would this be the same process for a 2007 model
AND THAT'S IT!!!
No talking about how your going to do it ????
FOR 5 FRICKIN MIN. FIRST.
THAAANK
YOOOU!!!
that was all I needed was here this is how you do it now go
git-er-done.👍
Any clue how to get the broken pins out without dropping trany? My F150 has a 4"lift kit so the area with the pins sets lower than normal
Gracias buen video...
The website you got the kit from says compatible with rangers 87 and up, do you know if it would work on an 86?
will this cause not going to reverse if not replaced
That's how mine was. So yes it will
OMG me 3!!! I can't believe nobody tells you to have the damn transmission in neutral before you pull the inner shifter out. I finally fixed the problem by sticking a long flat head screw driver in the trans and pulling on one of the shifter forks.
Will this be the same on my 1993 Ford ranger 4x4 5spd?
My man. I pulled my shifter and its missing everything. Ordered the kit and going to have it rebuilt by this weekend.
@wolf198425ify it's in the description. Last link
What site did you use for the part?
@David Paugh that's why the title says MAZDA B2300 Not Ford ranger.
Hi bro thanks alot for this video your'e a life saver having the same problem in my Thunderbird SC keep sharing it helps us all even those that claim they need no help we know they're watching videos like this one again thanks oh btw I used to a transmission R&R back in my younger years so that's what I meant about those who claim to know it all lol peace out dude take it easy!
Where can i get a new bolt
Where did you get those rubber insulation plates at?
@MCRRocksForEternity I used a punch and a hammer. It took a lot to get them moving. Beat the hell out of them lol
my ford ranger want go in gear I think I have to do this or I have slide the gears over
Great how to video, had a question what if I didn't have my shifter in neutral. I think its in 4th gear so when I put the shifter all back together it won't shift at all. Do you know how to align the gears inside trans so it will be in neutral? thanks man
I have the same problem.
Do you have the solution?
Mine's the same year, lol. I'm changing the clutch because the previous owner put in a racing clutch and shifting is a bitch. Then I find this issue today (and thank you for the video, it'll help me in a couple of days.) And the linkage needs to be adjusted, I think. This truck really isn't worth the time and money, I swear.
what is the name of that damn bolt that hold the shifter on. i cant find it anywhere
Thanks. I didn't want to just go beating on them, then find out there was some little trick that made 'em fall out. Been there, done that, got the broken parts to prove it.:) Now I'm a bit older, I've learned to ask first. Sometimes.
@MCRRocksForEternity Oh yes. They just tap right in
I wish my dad saw this video before he glued all the knob togheter and thought he made it indestructible
got an 89 f150 same thing. I took her apart and put everything together. and it wont shift at all. clutch was just done. any ideas??? helpppp
I want to do that wheel on the shifter now so when I'm bored I can spin it
What size is the bolt on the shifter
Where can I get a kit? My 89 f150 needs one
great great video
hey i seen ur video and thought maybe u could help out and educate me on a part i am looking for.... "shift grommet " 96 mazda B2300 " 2 door standard .. having a hard time finding them one bci dont understand the part , its for my moms truck... its not wanting to shift... transmission is good, but they said the plastic gears of the shift grommet is messed up bad...
+lovepeacenotwar1982 It's the shifter repair kit for the mazda built m50d transmission. I'm sure that the trans you have...
I cannot get my pins out. Do you know what i may be doing wrong? I tried to tap them out with a hammer and screwdriver.
Would this kit work on a 97 Mazda B2300??
Would this kit work on a 1992 B2600i?
You are awesome
