Restore Lost Power in Your Ford or Mazda for FREE

- Soft gas pedal? A stretched out throttle cable in a Ford or Mazda can cause that.Take a look at your throttle cable. See if the pedal moves up and down and has "slack". If so, your throttle might not be opening all of the way so you are not getting full power. If you floor the car the throttle might only be open 80%.
Watch the video to see how a few wire ties can restore this lost power!

I don't know who you are and how you acquired the patience to learn everything you do, while mastering your camera angle and editing, but I appreciate you and your existence.
What do you mean you don't know who he is?!! He's Chris Fix dude!! Basically any diyer/car enthusiast know him
facts!
If you love what you do, you will have patience for everything! ^^
Right
Old school Chris Fix.
Eli S old is gold
I like it better too, more relaxing
Eli S, he's not old. He's well developed. Lol.
300th liker lol
No old school is when they used to do this for the kickdown cable on transmissions lol
0:47 "Im guessing it looks something like that?" No , no its way way worse.
Yes😂
Well you need 2 people for this
That's what I said 🤣🤣
The secret to getting 5m subs... No bs straight to the point high quality videos
Haha, someone told me to close my eyes and just listen to some of the things I say hahaha... It did not increase fuel economy by anything noticeable, but it did improve performance (acceleration specifically). The spring is not weakened, the metal throttle cable that opens up the intake is stretched. That spring helps account for some of the stretching, but after enough stretching over time, you need more than the spring.
@Mr305Maxxx Do you know where I could get a new one? I have a 1995 Ford ranger.
@Mr305Maxxx Thank you! I've looked online, but have found that a lot of parts are out of stock. I'll just go to my local parts store and see if they can order a part for me.
I love your Mazda videos. I have a 2004 Ranger XLT with 3.0, 5 speed. I'm in California so don't have the corrosion you do, haha. One of my leaf springs is a little catywampus, should I loosen the bracket and sledge it into alignment?
Yea, Ive heard about this before but never paid much attention until recently when we were helping my dad move and was pulling a trailer with my '03 4.0 Ranger (currently 69k miles) loaded with stuff and furniture. Really had to press the pedal hard to get into any power and to downshift when climbing a hill. Mind had quite a bit of slack once I looked at it and a couple zip ties made a world of difference. Very worthwhile simple mod once you twist yourself into a pretzel to reach up under there......lol
Just did this on my B2500 and thankfully I had the seats out so it was quick and easy, only took 2 zip ties for me
Im going to try this on my 92 ford explorer when i get home. Its prolly same damn thing! Im tickled pink😮😮
This video is 9 years old and still helping people !
I'm an old guy who isn't a wrench but still works on his own stuff as much as possible.
I bought an 02 ranger that needs much tlc .
I was just looking at the throttle cable 2 days ago trying to figure out how to adjust the slack out of it ?
This is how !
Just did this to my 1997 Ford Ranger XLT. It used to take so long for me to get up to 45MPH & now it responds like it should. Thank you!
For sure! Hopefully this is all it is! No problem and if you can, give the video a thumbs up. It helps me out, thanks!!!
Bought a 90 ranger to restore.. and after finding this video, I had no idea.. I went to check and it had over an inch of play!!! It’s running WAY BETTER! Thanks!!
CHRIS FIX. THE MAN THE MYTH. This guy is one of a kind . He helped me become a better mechanic..Thanx Chris.
Great! Thanks for the comment! Feels like the throttle should feel now!
loving these older videos of yours because I have a really crappy '98 Explorer that has a million things wrong with it. I can't fix everything on it but these videos really help me get some easy stuff out of the way.
I just did this to my '99 Explorer; not only did it restore the power, but also made the pedal much less clunky. This marks my very first ChrisFix repair.
Great! It is amazing how great the car feels when you press the gas now, right!?!?
+Rhett Peters, I cannot reply to your comment for some reason, but I have a 2001 as well. You should have no problem going up any road hill at any speed. WHen you are floored you should be able to accelerate pretty good for a truck. I would check what you saw in the video, but I think you may have other problems.
ChrisFix , Okay awesome! Okay, thank you so much, what else do you think might be wrong with the truck that could affect this?
Do you have any check engine lights? I would test the fuel pressure
Fuel Pressure Test
ChrisFix No I don't. But I will check that out and the video too. thank you so much again! I'll try and let you know how or if it helps if that is the problem.
HEY CHRIS..?
I DID THAT WHOLE "ZIP-TIE" THING ..WORKS GREAT, REALLY DOES...! (however.) lol does your acclr, get stuck (wide-open) like mines doing now.? i mean i can drive normally..but when im @ a red-light and wanna burn um off a bit...(he,he,he) i can do so,even more now..it's just that dang acclr get's stuck on full trottle. (any ideas.?)
-thanks
MIckveli2 i would check to see if there is anything on the spring or hinge of your throttle body, maybe it corroded a little when it was loose because it wasn't being use and is sticking now because its dirty
Good luck and let me know how it feels after. I was amazed at how much better it felt!
I bought a 1998 Ford Ranger XLT recently. When I would accelerate I would almost have to floor it and felt like I was getting little acceleration. I come across this video and did exactly what he showed and it worked! Ty
The general concept worked for me, I did this on my Buick century so hopefully now I won't need a mile long gap to get on the highway
My pedal droop was so bad, it dropped like an inch down and it took the car so long to get to 60
David really good, it's worked perfectly fine so far
never thought I would find 9 years old video from ChrisFix. amazing how you still make video and help many people. just wanna say you such a inspiration!
mr.fix , im skeptical on many youtube mechanics , but you my friend are the real deal , i did the fix today on my 98 mercury mountaineer , and wow , i barely touch the pedal , a tiny bit more power helps , ty mr.fix .. keep doing an great job 🤜🤛
I had the same problem. Every time ac comp running, the engine lost its power and it came back once ac comp entered idle state. It's been sometime, i noticed the gas line was slacking, not tight, quite loose actually. But no idea how to fix it. Till 2 days ago this vid popped out on my youtube recommended vids. Now the problem is solved. Thank you ChrisFix. Your videos are totally helpful and not only help me save, but also avoiding me from useless effort of fixing not at the right place. Thanks a bunch. Wish you all the best. 🙏
Did this to my 1998 4.0 Ranger, and I could feel the difference right away. Thanks for making this tip available to the public. Love your vids, they've helped out alot with the add-ons I've recently purchased.
Any updates? You never blew your motor or anything? Probably going to do this to my '04 4.0.
Lucas Reed it won't blow your motor just better throttle response
I did this to my '89 ford bronco 2 and before it felt like I only had the gas pedal half way down.
seth balderson bad
😈😱
Chris, THANK YOU for your very detailed videos! Just tried this on my 99 Ranger (daily driver for 14 years) that felt like a few horses went to pasture. Along with cleaning the throttle body and IAC, saw instant change! Gonna follow a few other videos you have because I’ve got tie rod work to do next with some other odds and ends. Keep up the helpful and awesome content!
I am not sure about the F150s but it is stock on the rangers... It is to mitigate some of the slack they expected over time (obviously they didnt make a strong enough spring lol). Glad it helped! Really makes a difference in how the engine feels!
I have loss of power in my 2005 ford explorer. the mechanic said that we're going to start with the egr valve and intake manifold gasket. my uncle replaced the egr valve. we also cleaned the throttle body (which is electronic. it doesn't have a manual pulley system like the one in this video) I also cleaned the MAF sensor. the car ran better for 2 days. did it run better because of one of the items I cleaned and I should replace either the MAF sensor or throttle body? or should I continue to replacing the intake manifold gasket. it seemed like my mechanic was guessing when they said "we're going to start from there"
I know on newer ford's the throttle bodies are horrible, I am replacing them daily. I would suggest to start with that. However if you are doing this on a budget I would suggest to start with the cheapest thing the mechanic said.
@@xenonmorphcoleman4298 thanks.
Just did this to my truck and it did miracles!!! Throttle response is a lot more quicker and when I need that speed it’s there. Never thought I’d feel that power coming from this 20 year old truck, I thought the motor was just bad, but the throttle cable was the culprit all along
Still quality content from the beginning!! We love you, Chris!!
Great! That is good news! Thanks for the comment.
DUDE @chrisfix your channel is absolutely dope! I just recently got a 2000 ford ranger it felt so slow. Turns out it was only this...ya saved me tons of money on fixing things id never learn otherwise. It feels like a totally different truck now.
Sweet! Glad it inspired you to check lol... It feels so much better when you fix it!
Hey Chris, not sure how often you check the comments on these older vids. Just wanted to say this video helped me a ton. My '94 Ranger struggled accelerating and going up hills. Now it runs like a brand new truck. You're the best
I’m glad the video helped your truck out that much! Thanks a lot!
@@chrisfix Do yyou have a video on a budget full body paint job or plasti dip or vinyl wrap comparing most cost effective technique. Thanks
I did this to my 2003 mustang. I was hoping it would bring up the gas pedal a lot but didn't. However there was a big difference in the acceleration. Thank you.
This just saved me from getting my temperature gage replaced. My Mazda b2500 1999 would only hit 3000-3500rpm with the pedal all the way to the floor. Thanks dude! Good thinking!
Basic things first to look at. Great video Chris you make videos that save tons of time and money for all who watch your thoughtful videos.
Could also be a plugged cat. Are your exhaust manifolds glowing red when the engine is at operating temps?
I know this is an older video, but wow! Tried this fix on my old Ranger, and it has never had this much get up and go since I got it from the original owner! At the 475k mark, never been rebuilt, hoping to get to half a million miles or more. Thank you for all the advise in these videos!
I just watched this video, I have a 02 4.0L and went out right after and did it. Definitely made a difference! Thanks for the little tip!!!
I'm glad the video was helpful!
I am confused. If there is slack so that it goes almost to the floor, how does it speed up really fast by barely pushing the gas?
Chris has a video on literally everything i look up. I appreciate this, man!
Well, I would get someone to press on the gas and let go as you watch the throttle body open and close... It might be dirty/gunky in the throttle body which prevents it from closing all of the way... That would be my first guess
Great Job.I have also removed my maf sensor and cleaned it with alcohol and that restored idle issue and power too.
I did to my Ranger and tried to find a better fix. I was delighted to see that this is the best way.
Saw a video about this elsewhere and immediatly came here to see if u have done something like this . Why? Caz i trust chrisfix more than anything duhhhh!😁😁😁😁🤣🤣😁💯💯💯💯
Fantastic. It never occurred to me to check this. Doubled my performance, must of had 3/4" of dead slack in my cable. thank you.
It's awesome right!!! Glad it helped!
It will feel so much better when you do it!
thanks Chris. my Ranger has so much better response now.
Great idea. My truck had the same issue. Not only are you missing some power due to more restricted airflow but, if it's bad enough, the ECU won't ever go into Wide Open Throttle mode where it optimizes the air fuel ratio for maximum power and also can do things like shut off the A/C compressor. Most any scan tool will show live TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) values and mine was only going to 80% with the gas pedal on the floor. Ford sadly decided to make the entire throttle cable/linkage non-adjustable, the cable stretches over time, and I don't think mine was even opening all the way when it was brand new. It's a bad design.
Thank you. This is exactly what my 94 B2300 Mazda 120K miles needed. Pretty easy to do once you remove the seat.
Awesome! Glad the video helped!!!
Just did this on 2000 f150 can't believe how much more power i have thanks man
So simple
So effective
I call that elegant
Thanks Chris
THANk YOU !!!! Just purchased , gutless on test drive, dealer says he’s driven a thousand all gutless, got it for a steal of a deal, peeling off the lot, dealer bewildered. Score
Your videos help me keep my truck working good....Thank You
Glad to hear the videos are helping you with your truck!
Best explanation of this mod I could find, by far. Chris, you did it again. Much appreciated.
Lots of small things make for a better performance auto
Thanks again for teaching
It worked on my Ranger, it runs way better now! Thanks!
1992 Mazda E2000 SD series truck motor home. I switched to BP and changed the fuel filter. Originally built with a non pressure petrol cap I replaced the pressurised one which was causing fuel to get into the charcoal canister. (three times and mechanics could not work out why this happened} Research by me indicated I needed to get a petrol cap that breathed and not cause pressure build up inside the tank. Goes as good as new now and pulls like a champion.
I’m 15 and After winter when it’s warm enough to work on my truck (grandpa bought me a Mazda b3000) I’ll have to do this! Thanks Chris
im 16 and getting my dads 2000 Ranger good luck to us
@@exotixblizzy7149 what engine is it? The 3.0 or the 4.0? Mines the 3.0
Just did this to mine and I can’t wait to drive it test if it feels better
This is the 3.0
Great tip. I did this throttle mod when I read about it in the rangerforums. I had a lot of slack
Yea man! Mine did too (as you saw). Makes it feel like a whole new truck!
thanks for the informative video.
i didn't even know about this and saw your vid just because it was the only video links to the Mazda, peddle dosn't sit on the floor now, thanks alot
Great video but you sounded soooo sad it made me feel sad, your new videos are much better and its great to see you progress
I did this little mod to my 97 ranger 5 spd. Damn, it chirps in the first 4 gears now! Thanks man.
Great! Glad the video helped bring some pep back into your truck! Remember to give the video a "thumbs up" (it helps me out, thanks).
No prob! The throttle feel is so much different after this. It's like a new truck lol
Bro thanks! My 2300 picks up speed faster! I had so much slack on it
Nice vid. One look at trying to put on a cable tie in the cab I looked at the bracket at the throttle body and just bent it back a bit. 30sec no contortion under dash moves.
Chris you Are Amazing this video helped me A lot than you so much my Ford is running like New now
Thanx Chris! just made my 99 3.0 ranger even more of a beast... still not a 4.0 but roasts 32 inch tires like they r nothing=) going to try the (IAC) cleaning on our 02 focus this weekend... good vids easy instructions.
TwistThrottleATV 350 Awesome! Glad the videos are helpful!
WHY HELLS FIRE BUDDY ,,, THANK YOU VERY MUCH ,, I WAS OUT THERE JUST YESTERDAY TRYING TO FIGURE OUT JUST HOW TO DO THIS VERY THING , MINE DONT OPEN ALL THE WAY UP EITHER, THANKS AGAIN, KEEP UP THE GREAT TIPS AND VIDEOS I'LL BE WATCHING, R , L , CAIN

8 years ago.. this shit is what made Chris.. helpful af
Hey Chris I moved the setting for what I thought was the idle adjustment screw do you know the factory setting is for that screw.
Hello...ur videos are always easy to follow n vry useful...thnx
Did this on my sn95 about a year ago, difference was amazing..
I never would have thought of that. Thanks
I had my back on the floor, feet out the door... Went in head first. Seat all the way back. Hmmm... It was tight but once you are in, it's doable.
Yeah! I am 68 in less than a week and squeaked in on a small 96 2.3l. Wow, at first thought I would have to call a yungun, but kept going under and got it done. Very nice difference(!!), and I pull a trailer sometimes and this will be of immense help when starting uphill. Thanks, ChrisFix!
Always dropping gems🤝🏽
Would you know what I should check if my escort runs great , but if I'm idling it can start to chug and shut off ...Also if I'm backing out slowly ...Thanks AMAZING CHANEL
I had this in my favorites for a few months before I actually did it. I wish I did it when I saved it. This restored a lot of lost power. 95 Taurus
Recently renewed drum brakes with your videos and put a new set of handbrake cables. I think the cables were a tad longer as I am already at max adjustment. Thinking this will be a damn fine fix to apply!
In zip ties and duct tape we trust, sweet fix bud 👍
You save me from changing the gear box!!! Amazing!!
Hey chris, i had a question i was hoping you can help me out with i have a 2007 mustang v6 that seems to lose power/acceleration when warm when it's cold it runs great and smooth until it reaches normal operating temperature. Do you have any idea what could be causing this? Also what do you recommend to remove engine carbon deposit?
Thanks buddy . This worked perfect for me .
Hi Chris, thanks for the videos , I have a Nissan Murano and it just clicks and nothing else, battery good, fuses good, starter good had a check engine light flashing on a trip back home of 80 miles what should I look for ?
Thanks and have a good one
I have a 2011 ranger, 4.0 and I went out to see if I was having this issue and lo and behold I do, im gonna add my zip ties tomorrow, I can tell the truck is kinda not accelerating like how a 4.0 should, especially since my truck doesn't have a spring. So much I have to look into, I thought I had a perfect stock truck, the previous owner left me a mess im barely finding
Good vid man. Saw this and did it to my Mazda B3000 in about 5 minutes. Throttle works way better.
Thanks man!!!!! GREAT video...... Helped out a lot 😺
Wow you've come so far in your video skills!! You give me hope that my videos will get better. I need a catch phrase like "hey guys..." :)
I literally did this to my 3.0 Ford today. Then I saw this video on my feed. This is exactly what I did. Weird how the universe works.
Perfect timing!
I have a 92 ford ranger 4x4 fuel injection 2.9 the in take has a vacuum hose to the left of it.it's on there.but the other in where does it go
Did it to my 1997 Ford Explorer xlt and it worked perfectly. Noticed a major difference
Awesome!
fucking shit im going tchec my cable right away
hey thanks for the video my truck was stuck accelerating after I let the pedal out because of so much slack.
You should put one bigger one on. It has a stopper on it. Make sure it goes all the way until the stopper hits on the throttle body. That's close enough but there's just a weee bit more you can get out of it
not having any high temp issues with the cat or exhaust. i did find my throttle was not opening all the way and adjusted. seems better after adjustment.. thanks for the help 007, cheers!
wonderful tip let me add my thought a lead pinch weight used in fishing might give same result
I had something in mind and that was it ...I knew there was a metal item that pinched closed ...just didnt click
Thank you! Also my gas pedel sticks a little bit when I shift gears and go into netrual. Do you know anything on how to fix that?
I was thinking this video can help with that.
You're a legend mate.
thanks for the tip it worked perfectly please post more for mazda b4000
