THIS is how Bo Nix could have beat the Bills:
If he had a RB worth a darn!
Just look at the remaining playoff teams not named KC. They all have a ground attack lightyears better than the Broncos.
Bo accomplished all of this without a run game, without a TE, without a top tier WR, and come to find out, with fractures in his back midseason on.
    WILD! We found one!

Bo Nix is HIM y'all. Remember that last Raiders game when he came up gimpy holding his back? He had 3 fractures in his spine that he PLAYED THROUGH. That's why we saw him revert back to throwing INTs in the Cleveland and Indy games. If Paton & Payton can find this kid a RB, a TE, and just general help at the skill positions? He's going to be an EPIC Bronco!

They need to upgrade at FS, ILB WR, RB. Nix progressed as the year went on and that’s very encouraging.

My instant reaction to that title (before watching the video) is to say it's pretty damn hard to beat a better team when your defense can't stop the run to save their lives, your running game is non-existent, your receivers drop something like 5 passes out of the 22 you throw, and your play-caller keeps wasting downs running it on 2nd and 8+ (with aforementioned non-existent run game).

Biggest area of need is a true number 1 running back and a tight end. Besides sutton and mims the broncos don't have playmakers on offense. Bo needs help and the biggest help is the run game actually working. Also having a good tight end would be amazing as the tight ends they have are meant to back-ups, not starters.

Denver needs a viable 3 down running back first and foremost! Then a true #1 go to receiver preferably a do everything slot receiver who can threaten the defense between the numbers and provides Bo a consistent outlet option. That could also be a tight end who adds that dimension to this offense.

    • @adamloeffler1349

I agree with the 3 down back. I’m curious if it will be a trade for Kamara. The #1 would have to be a trade, I’m guessing. The slot is going to be Mims. So, #1 is new guy, #2 is Sutton, #3 is Mims, #4 is Vele. Hopefully TE is figured out too.

They need a TE, RB & another WR reciever on offense. But they literally need to be able the run the ball like Buffalo did yesterday & they can run play action off that. Bo led the team in rushing again & it's always a bad sign when that happens.

we have rb's that can get 100 per game.... Peyton will not be around for long if he doesn't rum the ball. Badie 2 runs 29 yards and then not another touch.... that is bad play calling. This loss 100% on offensive play calling.

Also I agree with the play calling, but Payton is just not calling our runs at the right time. He called like 5. Runs yesterday on 2nd and long and even 3rd down. Put us in awful situations. He needs to run it on first down and shorter yardage situations

Area of Improvement: RB personnel and schemes
While we do really need a playmaking TE or WR, I’d argue the issues with our rushing scheme and the lack of production from that room caused more issues throughout the course of the season.
TE is a close second, though. It’s nice to have a great blocking TE like Atkins, but 2 receptions for 4 yds between our TEs in a playoff game is very telling.

I think Bo needs a stud RB. There's talent in the WR room, but it doesn't matter if nobody respects the running game.
I have one question for you, Tim. It seemed like there were a lot of occasions this year where Bo left what would be considered a clean (or cleanish) pocket. Other than just getting more experience, is there a way you can help teach a QB how to deal with that? Even on your breakdown today, there was the one play where they ran the great rub route and had Sutton open, but Bo took his eyes off the route and scrambled when he probably didn't need to.
    Thanks for what you do!

Nix got no help from his teammates. I was also not thrilled with some of the playcalling. They're down 2 scores and Payton's running the ball on 1st and 2nd down.
Pretty simple on their areas of need. ILB, a problem area since Trevathan left, and RB. They could use a good pass catcher at TE, but the guys they have are serviceable. I'm also not sure they can justify bringing DJ Jones back unless it's on a very friendly deal. His strength was supposed to be run stopping and he was subpar this year in that area. That would be interior DL on the list of priorities as well.

I think the Broncos biggest need is four mammoth / athletic linemen... ,two for the offense and two four the defense... Preferably of the samoan descent. I'm really sick and tired of seeing Denver's entrenched linemen being smaller than our opponents. At times in the trenches, it seemed like a college team playing some some local is local high school team. I think the Buffalo game, Denver was out powered and outsized in the trenches. I keep hearing everything about getting better running backs --- but I say, if there's no hole, what good is a new running back going to do?🤔🤨 I'm trying to get some feedback on whether I was seeing things or what?🤔😊

I didn't care that the touchdown catch was snubbed. What i was looking at was the hit Bo took just after the throw. It looked like a cheap shot and i think there should have been a flag for roughing. You can see the guy clearly knew the ball was out and he leveled Bo. I don't like it and that dude is on my payback list. If he is there the next time w play them then he will regret hitting our QB late. The fake punt was great, but you HAVE TO SCORE when you successfully pull of the fake. And then any trick plays , gadget plays or flea flickers that work. Pull off a fake then follow it with a one play burn. The D had a bad day, missing tackles and not in the right play calls from Vance. We need a new Defensive coordinator for one .Don't get me wrong he did a good job but after Vance's name was out there for a H C., his head wasn't in the right place . I wish him well where ever he goes. Then we HAVE to get a POWER BACK. It's imperative to have a thick RUNNING back, along with the quick small back in order to make the play action pass convincible. Then improve on both line's, and last but not least,,, a blocking tight end. Someone who is massive but lean if you know what i mean?

Abismal play calling....missing game plan. On special teams, a can't miss field goal kicker missing. When it's all about money, all the world is a stage. The league got their premier matchup in Bills vs Ravens.

Great rookie year from Bo. I was a big supporter starting with the draft process, but he exceeded my wildest expectations. I think the offseason priorities are 1) RB 2) Inside LB (either through the draft or development of Drew Sanders) 3) TE. I'm not sure any of those are possible via free agency, most likely through the draft.

My only guess on why Bo went away from Sutton on the rub route was because of how big of a collision there was on the rub. I think the jam-up was so bad he actually couldn't see Sutton through it (Sutton dipped really low trying while working around it) and thought he was stuck in it during the quick look he took before taking off.
Also, I may have a relatively unwelcome take among Broncos fans, but I wouldn't be against keeping Javonte as a third down type of back. He's actually proven to be reliable as a blocker and receiver and can still run effectively at times.

Thank you for these amazing and super informative breakdown videos, Tim. Broncos Country seems to think Denver needs Ashton Jeanty at RB and Tyler Warren at TE. That would be amazing! BUT🍑I think Buffalo exposed the Broncos’ greatest needs: NT and LB. If we can’t stop the run and play solid intermediate pass coverage, we will get stuck beating bad teams, then getting bounced in the first, maybe the second round by teams like BAL, BUFF, LA. We’ll see how Singleton looks coming back from an ACL… Bo having a full offseason with Coach Payton is massive and I think we’ll see a lot of these missed reads will get cleaned up. Denver is a good football team, but we’re not elite, not yet.

Great breakdowns all year Tim! First ones I'm looking for every week. I watch Chase Daniels occasionally too mostly because he has a little insight into how Sean runs things but you guys are usually pretty spot on each other. I guess my only critique would be for you to be a little more harsh with players. If it hits your hands as a receiver in the NFL and you don't catch it...that's on you not the QB. Sometimes you call plays as good/no grade but Bo had a good option he just missed it/didn't see it = bad play.
As far as player...I think we could upgrade in a lot of areas but whatever gets us an actual running game. I couldn't believe our stats near the end of the season compared to teams that run it well. Saquon has 2000 yards? Did we even hit 1000 yards rushing lol? I know it's easy to say do this better do that better but it's basically a fundamental of good football teams. Have to be able to control the clock, especially if you aren't going to light up the scoreboard.
It's nice to be excited again. God bless Bo Nix!

Now I think Nix can be a really good to great QB, but he ran into a buzz saw in Buffalo, he got schooled by McDermott who's record against rookie QB's is now 4-12, plus the noise, just saying.

Tired of everyone trashing Williams. On some level, a running back is only as good as his O-line.

Javonte is not the same after that devastating knee injury. I hope he gets back to who he was before. Giants gave up on Barkley, and look what he's doing this year.

Good info but awful video/telestrator work makes your videos infuriating & unwatchable. I'll check you out next season just in case you get better

Stronger run game and receivers need a lot of catching practice. Feel the receivers cost us a lot of possession this year.
