  • The Trimui Smart has been out for quite a while now, and there is a great custom firmware out there which fixes bugs, and adds a lot more systems to the list making it a much more capable device.
    Here is the link to the Tomato Firmware, as always mod your system at your own risk, and only if you know what you are doing:

    Never knew about that little device. Looks great. I like my Ambernic RG351P a lot, but this seems so small that it can go in any pocket. Thanks for that video! I leaved a Like & Sub for you! Waiting for new content from you! Greetz from Germany ;-)

    I've had mine for a few months now. Eventually it developed a few glitches, like the "favorites" menu going empty after playing one game, other games not loading up unless I turn the device on and off again, and a weird black menu appearing in MAME games that is a bitch to get rid of.
    So, I bought a new sd card and installed Tomato. At first it was great, in that it got rid of all those glitches, but recently the one where the "favorites" menu goes empty after just one game has come back,... which means (I guess) its not the sd card, but the device itself?
    Anyway, its still a nice device, that plays almost all the games I want it to play. I can't help but think though, that one day its just going to suddenly stop working all together.

      That's a bit concerning. I'll keep an eye on mine to see if I have any of these issues, but hopefully it was just one bad unit. Unfortunately it seems like quality control is sometimes lacking in handhelds like this and manufacturing issues are far more common than with devices from bigger companies like Sony or Nintendo.

      @@TooManyHandhelds I may have just bought too soon. Seems a lot of these handhelds have something that ends up being corrected in the subsequent months. Like the Trimui S that eventually became the Powkiddy A66.

    What SD version you got, how many Atari games does it have? Thank you for review.

    How did you get rid of the really annoying white light under the d-pad?

      I don't remember... it's either gone with the tomato firmware by default, or there was an app to turn it off like with the background music bug.

    What file type are you using for Sega CD? I’ve tried both bin/cue and chd and the games won’t open. Everything else with Tomato has been solid so far

    • @TooManyHandhelds

      I'm using chds. There might be something with the bios or the bios naming, but I haven't setup Tomato in a while, so I don't remember.

      @@TooManyHandhelds Thanks for the reply, at least I'm on the right track by making the switch to chd. I'll look into bios for it. Thanks! Great little system, I'm loving playing my GBA games on it

    Did you have to update the stock firmware before you could install Tomato? I cant find v 0.113 to install on mine so I can try Tomato.

    • @TooManyHandhelds
      @TooManyHandhelds  Год назад +1

      I don't think so. From what I remember I just unzipped tomato on top of what was on the sd card from stock. Either way as long as you make a backup of the stock sd card you should be okay. If there are any issues with tomato, you can always delete everything from the SD card again and re-add the stock files to roll it back.

    Dude could you do a tutorial on how to do it please I'm so lost

    • @TooManyHandhelds
      @TooManyHandhelds  Год назад +1

      Sorry, I don't do many tutorial videos, but when I set mine up I made a folder on my PC, copied everything on the SD card into it as a backup. Then I right clicked on it and selected "format" and used Fat32 and the default allocation size. This erases the card, but sets it up for tomato. Then download the zip file from this site github.com/JDewitz/Trimui-Tomato/releases/tag/TrimuiTomato and double click on it to open it and copy everything to the SD card. Finally copy the games and saves from the backup to the new card and it should be good to go. You could also use a fresh SD card and keep the original one to go back and forth and if you're worried about losing the first one, that's probably a safer way to go. Anyway good luck and I hope you can get it working.

    With the new firmware, have a music and video player?

    • @TooManyHandhelds
      @TooManyHandhelds  Год назад +1

      Nope, unfortunately it doesn't come with any video or music players. Maybe there's a way to sideload one, but as far as I'm aware it just plays games and nothing else.

      Not on this device, but on others that are running JelOS Arduboy games tend to work pretty well for whatever it's worth.
