Trimui Smart Pro Tomato OS 1.0.4.1 with PortMaster Quick Setup Guide
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 5 фев 2025
- This is a quick and simple video tutorial of the install and boot up process of Tomato OS with PortMaster for the Trimui Smart Pro.
Tomato 1.0.4.1 release combines 1.0.4 base with update 1, and adds PortMaster. Rainbow LED and always on performance scripting from DjWare has been added as well.
From existing Tomato OS simply drag and drop and allow it to replace everything it wants.
If you don't currently have portmaster installed you must reflash the internal 1.0.4 awimg by holding volume down when powering it on after copying the zip to your fat32 micro SD.
New users copy the bios from Retroarch/system to a safe place, and delete everything but the Roms folder from your fat32 SD, drag and drop Tomato to it. Place SD in device and power on while holding volume down to install 1.0.4 and PortMaster.

Thanks for all your work Steve!
My pleasure!
What's the point with the two files in the Drive folder?
One is a zip which contains what appears to be an SD patch with an update file in the root and another update file inside of a folder named "1.0.4 firmware" and the other zip only contains an update file smaller than the other.
I've tried to install the first one in a blank SD card as it comes, with the default update image placed in the root, but this bricked my console. The screen was blinking between the portmaster 001 installation and the Trimui menu. I could recover it with the recovery and then I replaced the image on the sd patch zip with the update file of the second zip, and first the green screen, after that the portmaster 002 installation and then worked.
Why there is 3 different update files in the two zips and for what is needed each one?
There is also a BEST in the sd patch zip with no roms and there is a lot of images in the IMGS folder without any ROM, this useless folders delays substantially the process of copy and paste the files into the SD card
The imgs aren't useless. They show boxart when adding games. The second zip is just the internal firmware file if anyone needs it
My one bricked too with blinking the old os in background then no longer started unless I managed to make a recovery sd card and then installed tomato. The biggest problem was that the windows internal antivirus randsomeware protection was enabled and no sd card image tool like rufus was able to extract the recovery image to sd card unless I found this issue.
A detail guide to prepare an empty sd card for game roms stripped down to only the needed files and folders w/o already updated firmware files will be great and a list of optional stuff like the many game picture files.
A few GUI Icons background pictures when display in two rows are way to large or to small to match in the fields.
Online update download feature for upcoming versions will be a great addition to it.
Hello Steve, I've followed your tutorial, but none of installed games are launching :(
Thanks for the video, it helped me a lot and everything was a success, I was very happy until I realized that I did the entire experiment in a memory of only 16GB, and now I intend to change to a memory with a larger capacity, I have to do all the process in the new memory including pressing Power+Vol- to install TRIMUI_EX 001/002, or just copying what I had in the 16GB memory to the new 128GB one works for me, thank you very much in advance.
I think you only need to copy the files, because you already installed it in the internal memory of the device
But I think you don't need to put those large firmware files on a new sd card by copying cause they already installed and possible it can be stripped more down which is not gui related. But hey when we use retroarch to update core by PPSSPP by starting a PSP Game with X button is a selection with the latest ppsspp version and the one coming with tomato.
Installed fine, however Retroarch was configured to use the Nintendo button layout. I remapped them, but this could be an issue for other users.
They're swapped, yes. I also reversed this
I'm glad you did this tutorial. When you find a game that doesn't work and remove it, does it clean up the install files or just remove it from the list?
Thank you for the great video, it's so cool! Greetings from Germany
Does tomato os have all the necessary bios needed for the systems it can run or I need to manually provide it? If so what is the path to place the bios files?
Thanks again for your hardwork and the team behind it all😊
So, regarding the 1.0.4 hotfix, do I need to drop that on top of my Fat32 formatted sd card after it has flashed Tomato 1.0.4 to the Smart Pro itself? Is it just drag and drop or is flashing necessary again? Thanks a bunch. Pretty excited to try this out.
I picked one of these up so i have something new to tinker with. Looking forward to installing this 👍🏻
Just got mine today! I have some other handhelds but got it for the same reason, to tinker. $55 shipped. There seems to be a really strong community behind this one. Installing Tomato OS right now but also excited about the development of Knulli. Who can say no to a $50 device with this form factor and potential?
can tomato OS be put on the stock card that comes with the system?
Great stuff! What folder do I copy the bios flies to?
Thanks for the hard work, its much appreciated.
I just did this though, a few issues I have had:
1. No bios file located for the PS, despite copying them to the same directory as they were on my stock card (.retroarch/sytem). It couldnt find my saved games either.
2. The buttons for the menus seem messed up, sometimes its the nintendo system of back and select, and other times it switches to playstation. This seems to happen almost interchangeably in the menu. It means the key at the bottom also isnt correct.
Any help would be appreciated.
Wacked the stock card in and bios is found and saved games too.
On the GDrive link from You webpage there are 2 files, the Trimuis Smart Pro Tomato os Beta (the one You're talking about) and another one trimui_tg5040_v1.0.4.20240403_hotfix1-needs-base-1.0.4-first (what is it for and when/how to use it - I'm on new trimui device with stock firmware and no SDCard yet)
Thanks for the video. 👍
Is it a file to place inside the root of the card to install or is it a complete image of the system without the games?
Well, it says "Installing Trimui_ex 001, but the screen is flashing? shimmering? to the regular overlay. I can move around to different areas. I really can't say yet if it's installing. Of course, I had extraction troubles and had to re extract 3 times which took hoooours....
Do you know if it can run .mp4 files for movies with Tomato OS?
Just got my device and install tomoto thanks for the guide. After install do I need to delete the files as it will install portmaster everytime I start up. Also where does the device save files when game saves happens?
Thanks
once i fished downloading the games from portmaster i cant find the port folder under my games section any clue ?
You are the man Steve! Congrats on this great work you are putting out for us!
I have a quick question.
How do I add covers to my games? I didn't buy tye version with a card loaded games and i had to put my own games.
I would appreciate if you could help me out.
This helps me alot "Guide: Skraper for Retro Handheld Devices" search it on youtube, although you need more technical knowledge but its doable
what makes the Tomato better from the stock Trimui firmware ?
Thanks for all of the update videos Steve. Just wondering if you have been able to get Mario Golf 64 to work on the Trimui? Thanks.
I cant even get portmaster to install... Is it a separate download?
Is there a way to update from version 1.4 to this one without deleting everyting or should I do a clean install on my sd card? Looking forward to play balatro on my trimui!
Hi all. I have a lots of questions. First: where can i find themes for retroarch, bios for psx? Second: Why when i change language from english to poland, option doesn"t save?
Actually I just thought of something. Does Tomato OS support sub folders for roms? Like in the SFC folder, can I have "Hacks", "Translated" etc sub folders?
Where can I find 1.04.1 Tomato os?
if i install this on a new card will i be able to hot-swap it around with the old card with the stock os on?
yessir
Where will I download the files copied at 01:05?
does the offical hotfix 6 work with this?
How do you keep saves when upgrading to tomato
You can back em up to your pc or drag n drop tomato over stock and replace all
I decided not to get the optional SD card with questionable Roms and OS, so I'm starting from scratch and would like to double-check everything before installing an OS on the device. Can I do what you did in the video and drag and drop everything onto a blank SD card that has no OS copied onto it? Does Tomato come with the bios files? Thanks!
yes you can drag and drop over, no bios or roms included.
@@TechToyTinkerCompany Is there a list of what bios I need for each emulator? I really don't want to have to mess around with the SD card a bunch of times because I didn't get the bios right the first time. Thanks!
@@r.hcarroll6581 libretro pages will tell you
@@TechToyTinkerCompany Found it! I used the link on your website for the OS download and need to know when and where to use the included hotfix zip. I haven't installed the OS yet, do I use the hotfix after I install and just drag and drop it into the root of the SD card?
I found that having a folder named "Ports" instead of "ports" on the root on the microSD card would cause PortMaster to fail to launch properly. This means we can't have the new Ports tab on main menu if we want PortMaster to work, any idea how to fix this? Thanks for the great work btw :)
the PortMaster devs are fixing it
The Zelda movie hasn’t come out yet, feels a bit presumptuous to say one will always be a Zelda fan 😅
This coming from a guy who has a kid named after her.
Onion OS, Garlic OS, Tomato OS. I'm seeing a pattern.
When Basil OS is released we can make pasta sauce😂😂😂
Taco OS, Curry OS, Burger OS.
Can we get emulationstation or some crap on it? Jelos has already played punk on us.
pretty sure acmeplus is porting batocera actually, i've seen a beta of it.
Started portmaster, asks to update and goes back to main app menu
Same happens with pico 8. Launches and go back to main screen.
Does Portmaster come with its own games and bios?? This looks FAIRLY simple, just need to get on a Windows computer. This Chromebook is not doing me any favors with updating this thing.
Also-it does not matter if I have no updates installed right? I think it can be confusing because there is also a file that says it's for 'hotfix', which I believe is like a patch? I have been trying to mess with the 2.5 gb file. You don't need to extract it directly into the non bootable fat 32 sd card right? You can extract it first and then drop it in? Im used to doing some stuff with games and bios but not firmware, thanks! Tomato I hope keeps improving! Thanks so much 🙏
Shredder's Revenge won't start... And many other ports won't start... Why?
portmaster is not finished yet, this tina linux has no repository like apt, so portmaster can not simply download what it needs, the developers have to manually fix the games
@@TechToyTinkerCompany ah ok...that can take some time hehe :)
Is there any chance to add a PS2 emulator on the device? I would just like to see if it could play less complex PS2 games.
No it can't
please update the system, you added a lot of files that you don't need, you added 3 update files and made everything very confusing, and update 0.6 hotfix has already been released on trimui smart pro.
It's not confusing. The 1.0.4 is at the root and it gets deleted sometimes after flashing so I left a spare in the folder
❤🎉
Where is link to files ?

Hi guys.
I accidentally dropped my Trimui Smart Pro in water...I turned it off and the next day I opened it to dry the inside of the console.
I wanted to remove the battery but I used a screwdriver. I messed up by going a little too hard and saw a spark.
After which, I managed to peel it off with a plastic card.
Now I would like to find another battery, but I can't find any on google. I wrote to Trimui, I am waiting for a response. But if you know where I can find one, I'm interested.
Thank you so much.
What the what! The buttons are mapped all wrong with this OS!
